Heart-ache: Palin snubs Washington insiders after GOP dinner
posted at 5:35 pm on June 9, 2009 by Allahpundit
Golly, I wonder why. Might it be because they dump on her at every opportunity, from lowballing her in insider polls of presidential prospects to sneering at her anonymously about her lack of gravitas? To wit:
Gingrich held forth for nearly an hour, delivering a policy-heavy address that few Republicans, and surely fewer Democrats, think Palin could match…
It was a bad scene for Palin, according to GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak.
“She has to sit there and agree with him, knowing it’s a speech she cannot give, that she is not equipped to give,” Mackowiak said.
I.e. she’s a moron. How come they all want their picture taken with her, then?
Several Washington Republicans contacted by Whispers said that Palin was quick to leave the Senate-House Dinner, apparently ignoring a line of those who wanted to meet her. (Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, in contrast, stayed late to shake hands.) “She came, she stayed the entire event, then at the end, a buddy and I headed to her table—my buddy actually set eyes on her—and then, poof, she was gone,” said a GOP source with ties to House and Senate conservatives. “There were 40 people standing around her, just wanting to say hello and wish her well, and she just ran out the back door.”
A big deal? Yes, for the Washington crowd that likes to control the party. “For a ‘woman of the people,’ she has got some learning to do,” sneered the insider. “Heck, she has a whole lot to learn. And get some decent staff around her. Most of the mistakes since November are not people out to get her. They are 99 percent self-inflicted by her own staff who are simply not up to the job of effectively serving a national political figure, which is what she has become.”
As much as grassroots conservatives will thrill to the thought of her cold-shouldering D.C. double-dealers, she really will need some of these people for money and policy help down the line if she’s thinking about higher office. There are two ways she can get them: Either make nice, which is probably pointless since they seem to think of her as a hick who’s not worth taking seriously, or put on a show of fundraising prowess so spectacular that they’ll beat a path to her door. SarahPAC is the obvious vehicle but I’m disappointed with how low-key she’s been about it so far; compare the quality of her site, for example, to Mitt’s. Granted, Romney and Huckabee don’t have day jobs as governors now and can devote more time to their PACs than she can, but she’s far more the darling of the base than either of them. She should find some cause she wants to raise money for and then start pushing the site to talk radio in hopes of drawing the sort of repeated small donations that made Obama’s fundraising so mind-blowing. If she can do that, the Beltway will take her seriously whether they want to or not. Can she do it? Does she want to?
FYI, here’s the extended web clip of her interview with Hannity. The most eventful bit is the one Drudge quoted, but the last two minutes are worth watching just to see how chummy Hannity is with her. Say this for him: Unlike the modern-day Murrow at MSNBC, at least he makes no pretense whatsoever of objectivity.

They love her for her photogenic nature. That is, she looks good in photographs with them…
I was at an interesting Americans for Prosperity event where John Fund from the WSJ spoke. He says that a true conservative leader will emerge when the grassroots catches their attention… not the other way around. Palin doesn’t want to walk with the main crowd, and that might help her notice that the people aren’t all that happy. The rest of them are too pre-occupied with the hair gel to notice.

People usually define important states by population, industry etc.

Turn your back on the RINOs, Sarah. Team up with Bobby and go out there and kick some ass.
Once bitten, twice shy.

I know you Palin fans are very strong in your support of Gov Palin..and I like her too.
But you need to stop with the re-write of history.
Yes, she did fire up the base, which you guys seem to represent…and that is worth something.
But the type of people that are REALLY into politics are a relatively small minority. In other words, people who post and cheerlead on websites like this (conservative OR libtard) make up a relatively small part of the electorate.
So, although Palin was great in firing up the base, she hurt McCain more than she helped because conservative democrats and independents were seriously turned off by her.
That is what the factual polling shows.
Hopefully, you guys arent blind enough to cry “polling conspiracy” now.
I like Palin but I dont think she has a chance to become POTUS. You have to be pretty damn smart and have a great understanding of the issues to become POTUS.
She isnt…and she really cant speak well…she doesnt speak in complete sentences.
Just warning you…

Pretty obvious that Palin scares the livin’ bejezus out of them and they feel a need to make sure she doesn’t run. Part of it might be her role in the whole Stevens thing. The “old boy network” isn’t going to trust her when it comes to winks and nods. So she has the “insiders” against her and the left against her. Looks like its up to us.

We note your concern and if what you say is true then she won’t make it past the primaries. She will have to give speeches and participate in debates. She has every right to run in 2012 if she wants and we have every right to support her if we wish though.
As far as being “pretty damn smart”, I know many people who would say we have a number of Presidents who weren’t the best or the brightest. For example, I wouldn’t say Jimmy Carter, George Bush II or even Obama impressed me with their smarts. We still don’t know what Obama’s school grades were. I think the voters liked them the most when they ran and that is why they won.
sarahpalinfan99 on June 10, 2009 at 2:26 AM
I think you missed a few cliches there.
She has several levels of executive experience, and experience taking on entrenched interests. Obama goes along with machine politics and votes present. What type of qualifications are you looking for?
Do tell. Please give details, not blank assertions. For example, does she think there are 57, or maybe 58, states?
Really? I don’t know too any people who vote for a ticket based on the VP slot unless they are totally disgusted by both names at the top of the tickets. Also, which polls would you be referring to? What were the questions asked?
onthego on June 10, 2009 at 2:36 AM
The “base” should have been fired up by Senator Government and Senator Hair Plugs alone. Palin obviously didn’t motivate them as much as George Bush did and she is actually a lot more like them than he was.
Speedwagon82 on June 10, 2009 at 2:39 AM
The insiders dont get it. The way I see it, the less time she spends in the Beltway, the better.
Mom4t on June 10, 2009 at 2:54 AM
After watching last year’s debates, I was quite annoyed at how Obama would often toss up softballs that should have been slammed right back at him, but McCain was all, “Well, he’s got a point there, but…” And when Obama made direct accusations, he did the exact same thing. We’ll have to go with Palin, or someone like her who can tell people, “No, he’s wrong, and here’s why.” for those debates because simply letting these things be said and then go by completely unchallenged (e.g., Hughley/Steele), no good can come from that.

Let’s face it: The media love to churn controversy in order to create a story. Their reporters will seek out the naysayers (usually anonymous) for an inflammatory sound bite or two.
For a supposed political nonentity, Sarah Palin surely garners the attention of the media. The politios who feed the beast are being played.
Do we want the media to choose our candidate again?
I say that Sarah should be Sarah. She didn’t attempt to upstage anyone at the event, and she doesn’t belittle members of her own party. She has demonstrated executive ability, charisma, and a common-sense message that resonates with the electorate. Obviously, her leaving the dinner has created more buzz than the remarks of the speakers.
Palin is in play on the national stage. Her opponents in both parties fear her (and secretly respect her at the same time).
BTW lizza is one of the more obvious Axelrod astroturfers in the comment threads. This newbie is not even subtle in promoting the talking points. S/He is running neck and neck with afrolib with irrelevance.

Governor Palin is a rarity these days – a politician that actually says what she believes. Most seem to say whatever will get the highest poll numbers for the moment. Agree or disagree with her but you can bet she is NOT parsing words with an eye to the winds of pollsters.

“I like Palin but I dont think she has a chance to become POTUS. You have to be pretty damn smart and have a great understanding of the issues to become POTUS.”
That must be why Obama was elected.

“I like Palin, but…”
The mark of a troll (or RINO) trying to pretend otherwise.
SKYFOX on June 10, 2009 at 8:39 AM
What an ego hannity has. The camera was on him the whole time and on the back of Palins head.
peacenprosperity on June 10, 2009 at 8:44 AM
Exactly. If he can win, anyone can.
People were into Obama like a crowd is into paying money to see a magician. They are sure they are being fooled but they like it anyway.
People just WANTED him to be the real deal, and voted for him and hoped for the best.
I know a few people who did that. They were moderates/independents.
Obama had no executive experience etc. He got elected in the perfect storm for democrats.
I seriously cannot believe anyone is “unelectable” who is a Gov. and speaks the issues well like Palin does.
Yeah the media hates her guts, the media hated Bush’s guts in 2004, big deal.
B Man on June 10, 2009 at 8:46 AM
He was an idiot long before Bush came around. Have you ever heard or read an interview with him? He once said he gets “great comfort” from maureen dowd and paul krugman. A multi, multi millionaire and his life sucks so bad that he gets great comfort from two of the most angry, bitter, dysfunctional writers out there. I seriously believe the guy is some kind of savant like in rainmain. Except for writing some catchy tunes in his youth, the guy comes off like he is severely limited intellectually.
peacenprosperity on June 10, 2009 at 8:53 AM
Yet another reason why I love Sarah Palin.
Daggett on June 10, 2009 at 9:06 AM
The cameraman, or whoever set up that location for the interview, should be given a course in TV 101.
Hell, all they had to do was switch places and we would have seen a decent shot of her face instead of the back of her head for 11 minutes.
Jaynie59 on June 10, 2009 at 9:34 AM
It was an “extended” clip, not the produced segment. This was the shot from one camera, the camera that followed Sean. Another camera followed Gov. Palin, and the edited segment cut between both cameras.
I’ll take Hannity’s ego over Olbermann’s or Matthews’ any day. Or Couric’s or Jennings’ or O’Reilley’s, etc, etc.
Jason Coleman on June 10, 2009 at 10:22 AM
Not her exact quote but close enough:
‘The fewer dollars Alaska has, the less it spends….that’s good’
These few words summarize everything about her fiscal conservative roots that are worth repeating. How refreshing to hear a politician say having less money is a good thing.

And the “Newt” stands alone…?
Geezer on June 10, 2009 at 11:32 AM
Of coarse he “makes no pretense of objectivity.” He doesn’t claim to be an objective reporter. He represents himself as a political commentator with a conservative viewpoint. Unlike Brokaw, Rather, Cronkite et al.

FYI: Newt will be on Hannity tonight. Should be very interesting so everyone tune in, okay?
Also, for the record, I send money to SarahPAC, not the GOP. I encourage all of you on here who support her to please put your money where your mouth is……and soon. If she doesn’t run, the money will go to candidates who share her conservative views. Send it to the GOP and no telling who will get it.
Also, it’s not just Sarah Palin the elites are going after. I am ROYALLY ticked off at Mitch McConnell for what he’s been doing to Jim Bunning…….which is another story, but still related. Jim Bunning is someone the Tea Party folks can support. McConnell is not. It’s McConnell, et al, who are going after the likes of Bunning and Palin.
I don’t care what party people like Bunning and Palin are in. I support them both. If Newt and Mitch are the faces if the GOP, I am OUT.

She should start calling in to Rush. Reach her base, raise money for her PAC, stay on the national scene, etc, etc.
