Video: Obama forced to drastically scale back Hopenchange after visiting Denny’s

posted at 7:31 pm on June 8, 2009 by Allahpundit

Sort of an “America through the eyes of Megan Fox” vibe going on in this one. I’ve never been to a Denny’s but I have been to IHOP, which I liked notwithstanding the number of drunks and the uncanny sense I had that the place hadn’t been cleaned in months. Where do those two rank relative to each other in the pantheon of great American low-rent chain diners, I wonder. My guess: Somewhere below Friendly’s and above Howard Johnson’s. And way, way above the Waffle House. Abandon all hope, ye who enter there. Content warning.

Update: If the embedded video won’t play for you here, try this.

Ihop is five star compared to Denny’s. (Atleast along the Interstates).

Anyplace you can get pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon,& hashbrowns for $2.99…….Question everything.

That was hysterical. Two comments:

1) The Onion WH press secretary put Gibbels to shame.

2) I love IHOP! … and Denny’s.

The worst place around here is definately the Baker’s Square, aka “The Restaurant That Time Forgot”. Every booth and table is filled with people in the 90-110 year old range abusing the dejected waitstaff over pie. The creepy abandoned strip mall location only adds to the charm.

I live in Manasssas and have for 20 years. This portrayal of Manassas certainly is understood but a little overdone. My Fairfax County neighbors will probably disagree with me. I still laughed though. In any case, this is the real Manassas. I drive by this place everyday. It’s less than a half mile from my house. Good times, good times.

MarkABinVA on June 8, 2009 at 8:01 PM

And way, way above the Waffle House.

The one just outside of RDU is awesome.

Best breakfast I’ve ever eaten at 1:00am after an extremely long day of delayed flights and a closed rental car counter.

The two young black guys working the counter & grill were really fast and friendly and at that late hour I wasn’t expecting expecting much but they went out of their way to make me laugh and forget about my rotten day…so sweet.

Like SG said….it’s a southern thang : )

Basically, Manassas is 30 miles west of DC. Back in the 60s-80s it was the “boonies”. Just think Deliverance in the suburbs to get an accurate stigma reading. Explosive growth over the last twenty years has changed the demographics in many ways. Some good, some bad (see my previous post). Whoever wrote that bit has/had to be be from around here. I think how the tie-in actually works with the location (all at the Manassas Denny’s) but will be lost to a lot of their audience.

By 1979, Sambo’s had 1,200 outlets in 47 US states. However in the late seventies controversy over the chain’s name drew protests and lawsuits in communities that viewed the term Sambo as a pejorative towards African-Americans, particularly in Northeast states.

Many of the closed Sambo’s buildings are still standing, and they are being used as restaurants. Denny’s acquired some of them, as their operation is nearly identical to Sambo’s. An original Sambo’s is distinguished from a Denny’s in that a Sambo’s is a square-shaped building with a mansard roof-line, and a Denny’s has a peaked-roof.

seven on June 8, 2009 at 8:14 PM

Maybe you yankees eat in filthy restaurants, they tend to go out of business down here. Both IHOP and Denny’s are usually very clean and well run corporate restaurants. They are breakfast factories.

Straightforward example of liberals struggling to find a way to create political humor in the age of The Messiah. They can’t bring themselves to make fun of him, so they make fun of what’s around him.
