Palin on Obamanomics: We tried to warn you

She really did, back in the days when expressing even mild skepticism about The One’s pledge not to raise taxes on the middle class was cause for having your dirty laundry aired on the national news. From her RNC acceptance speech:

But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed … when the roar of the crowd fades away … when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot — what exactly is our opponent’s plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish, after he’s done turning back the waters and healing the planet? The answer is to make government bigger … take more of your money … give you more orders from Washington … and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world…

Taxes are too high … he wants to raise them. His tax increases are the fine print in his economic plan, and let me be specific.

The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes … raise payroll taxes … raise investment income taxes … raise the death tax … raise business taxes … and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars…

How are you going to be better off if our opponent adds a massive tax burden to the American economy?

Don’t forget taxes on health-care benefits. Says Palin to Hannity of our new federal colossus, “It’s expanding at such a large degree that if Americans aren’t paying attention, unfortunately our country could evolve into something that we do not even recognize.” Are Americans paying attention? The astounding thing about that Gallup poll Ed posted earlier isn’t that a majority now disapprove of how The One’s controlling federal spending, it’s that it’s a bare majority — 51/45 — despite the projections of trillion-dollar deficits for the next decade. In fact, on the issue of the deficit itself, Obama doesn’t even attract majority disapproval: 48 percent are unfavorable versus 46 percent who are favorable, a spread within the poll’s margin of error. I’m tempted to blame the media, which is still letting him get away with his nonsensical “jobs created or saved” crap, for not pushing the meme of how ruinous this course is, but The One himself has copped to its unsustainability both in public forums and in interviews. The information’s out there. A lot of people simply don’t care, evidently.

Here he is this morning finding the silver lining in the fact that “only” 345,000 more jobs were lost in May, which, by his own admission, is almost twice as many as have been “created or saved” by the stimulus in the three months since it passed in February. Cost per job so far based on the most recent figure of how much money’s been spent or obligated: Just south of $75,000.

It’s okay. We have a “cool” president now. Also, he is like God so all he has to do is wave his little finger and he’ll fix it.

I found the Gallup numbers very encouraging. It takes a lot for people to dismiss the policies of someone who is so popular. And Obama is extremely popular as a man.

So I think you could be minimizing the negative numbers a bit. That was extremely encouraging to me.

Separate the man you like, personally, from the policies.

Heck, I couldn’t care less if Elmer Fudd were president, given the right policies.

There just is not enough common sense in the beltway, especially among journalist. The thermometer is going lower, more than it went higher before.
Time there was warmth and plenty, but that cup soon runneth no more.
Though we could not caution all, we still might warn a few:
Dont lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools.

Ship of fools on a cold cruel sea
Ship of fools sail away from we.
It was later than we thought, when we still might have had some belief in you,
Now we can no more tolerate your fumbling antics, ship of fools.

I had a debate opponent in another forum who declared that unless something was printed in the pages of the NYT, as far as he was concerned it didnt’ happen.

It didn’t matter what other sources I linked to, to support my version of events, he always fell back to that standard refrain.

It doesn’t matter if Obama cops to the unsustainability of the deficit. If it doesn’t make the next days Good Morning America, or to the pages of the NYT, it didn’t happen, as far as the majority of people in this country are concerned.

Sarah the Idiot can successfully reduce the Alaska budget, but Obama the Messiah just can’t stop wrecking the U.S. economy one industry at a time?

Wow. Now that President Nyarlathotep has had an opportunity to dazzle us all with his mad recession-curing skillz [/sarcasm], suddenly the moose hunter with the Fargo accent doesn’t look like such a clodhopping doofus, does she?

That stimulus bill remains a complete fiasco, along with the budget.

The GOP has become in “inside the Beltway” party that only differs from the Democrats in some minor areas and uses socially conservative issues to stir up their base to get votes. If you look at what they did while in power then you begin to realize that the only difference between Democrats and Republicans is who they siphon government money (our money) to while enjoying the trappings of their office and the power they get.
That’s why they dislike Palin – she is not one of them.

Maybe the reception isn’t so good up there in Canada, but during the campaign Obama kept stressing how he wasn’t going to expand govt. and raise taxes. Palin accurately predicted that he would do both. Now that the front page stories reflect her campaign statements more accurately than his, a simple question remains: Is Obama a liar or too dumb to see what he was going to do?

There is a little bit of human nature built into the results of these polls. Chuck Schick on June 8, 2009 at 2:32 PM

Not only does Obama make Palin look better and his voters worse… he has completely exposed the ignoramuses who are labeled “conservative writers and pundits” for the cowards and moderates that they be.

The Dems wring their hands over the “extremist” GOP when they know good and well and pure conservatism is the greatest threat to their power… of course they know it… what kind of political party (in power) urges the other party to adopt strategies they truly believe will aid them at the ballot box?

And joining the Left in their hand-wringing? Those same writers and pundits who bought the Obama lie.

That was brilliant and showed an understanding of the Left that “GOP Insiders” couldn’t grasp even if Obama adopted “The Internationale” as his anthem.

Until we can break that tie and get people to vote for actual issues and their effects things won’t get much better. Sadly the average voter is not willing to invest that much time in looking at the positions so we end up with a popularity contest rather than an election.

As people are becoming more aware of the failure of Obamanomics the GOP better have workable ideas available to the public. Time is short.

Nothing else matters, no stats, no facts, no history, nothing but that one court case makes a difference to her. That is why she votes dem, and the only reason she votes dem.

I have a group of middle-age women friends who were very, very interested in McCain and agreed with him on a lot of issue.

They would have voted for Hillary, for sure. But when she didn’t win the primary, they were leaning to McCain.

But that issue you cite was the deciding “final straw.”

They voted for Obama.

AnninCA on June 8, 2009 at 2:40 PM

The information’s out there. A lot of people simply don’t care, evidently.

They do care.

Obviously you (and other atheist bloggers) also bashed Palin as much as you could get away with in the primaries and you now wonder why voters didn’t get the message?

You obviously were no help in getting the true message out, what with your constant bashing of her, so now I don’t want to hear any squealing from you that they don’t care.

And don’t give me this line that your little blog posts don’t matter or don’t really influence people, because if they don’t, you wouldn’t have tried to bash her at every chance you got away with!!

Bill Buckley was one. I guess I should phrase it this way. The “Conservative” commentators brought to us by the MSM. But it’s an echo chamber. They select who is considered conservative and who is not and then have arguments among themselves while issues that affect the average American are never covered. Make sense?

dpierson on June 8, 2009 at 2:40 PM

Okay take the Stimulus cost, what would have happened if you gave every man, woman and child 1,000,000.00 a piece, that is 300 million dollars. Okay the argument say it is a waste of money. How much of Porkulus is a waste of taxpayer money anyway? If the Government is going to waste our money, why not at least waste it on Americans? There is no argument for the politicians to make “Waste is Waste” except they can’t funnel money and pay off political favors, although it was Billions so theoretically they could do both :)

Dr Evil on June 8, 2009 at 2:41 PM

Like my mother in law. Most women in the US seem to have a pavlovian response to Pro Life/Pro Choice. Until we can break that tie and get people to vote for actual issues and their effects things won’t get much better. Sadly the average voter is not willing to invest that much time in looking at the positions so we end up with a popularity contest rather than an election.

As my young liberal son reminds me, “That’s why they call it a wedge issue.”

It’s true on both sides. Speak about it? You automatically anger 40% of people, either way.

AnninCA on June 8, 2009 at 2:41 PM

Allah Pundit, you know you just plagiarized this post from Treacher. It was Treacher, who I know is the first one in blogosphere, to make this point and you did not credit him at all.

But you had the amazing gall of accusing Sarah of plagiarism when she named Newt explicitly twice and referred to him by impersonal pronouns a couple of more times.

What do they say about petard and hoist?

promachus on June 8, 2009 at 2:41 PM

The media was venimous in its desperate attacks intended to marginalize Palin. They knew full well that their grand plans for an Obama presidency were at risk with the emergence of a successful, well liked governor as a vice-presidential candidate for McCain.

Sarah Palin would not just make a better VP than Home Depot Joe, she would make a better President than Barack Obama.

If she softened on abortion?

I could get behind her in a big way. I just really like her.

AnninCA on June 8, 2009 at 2:28 PM

You mean, like, limited the total number of abortions on an annual basis, or allow half the baby to be aborted, or what the fuck do you mean….soften. Sweetheart, this is a binary problem. Abortions are legal, or they are not. There is no where to soften into. Think of a light in the kitchen. It is on or off. No in-between.

If the threat of outlawing abortion scares you, you need to head over to HuffPo and DKos.

See ya. We don’t need ya.

Quick! Close your eyes to the truth. Europeans are rejecting socialism. Obama’s plan is not to recover the economy. It is to destroy it. Much the way Chavez did, in Venezuela. Long, and hard? Darlin, if Obama continues on this path, it’s going to get even longer, and uglier. You ain’t seen nothin yet.

Translation: “If she just became a hypocritical phoney like eevery other politican and betrayed her principles to become better accepted.”

She’s Sarah Palin, not Mitt Romney. It ain’t gonna happen.

That’s easy. He’s a Canadian. He smells the possibility of getting the worlds best healthcare, for free.

BobMbx on June 8, 2009 at 2:47 PM

If you gave Obama and his war room truth serum it is not Sarah’s social conservative personal philosophy that they are most worried about, but it her ability to clarify the benefits of capitalism and free enterprise and expose Obama’s radical socialist agenda and reduce it to its most intricate elements and to destroy Obama’s foreign policy by her cogent remarks on missile defense and ridiculing his ‘apology’ tour.

The social conservative claptrap is a smoke screen to diminish Sarah’s intelligence and competence, but of course the Obama war room feels it presents a successful smoke screen to blind Americans from the truth or reality or it or the MSM propagandists wouldn’t be resorting to this strategy so often.

technopeasant on June 8, 2009 at 2:48 PM

It was Palin’s and McCain’s fekking job to simply say nay to every idea Obama put forth during the campaing, as it was his to sh1t upon their ideas.

To suggest that Palin is some kind of genius because she opposed him back in 08 is ridiculous.

The road to recovery is ugly and long. Suck it up.

Dave Rywall on June 8, 2009 at 2:22 PM

And yet, Obama now wants to tax peoples health insurance plans, as if they’re income. hmmm

Obama has not only adopted a lot of Bush’s hated policies, he’s enhanced them, and given himself much more control, and power. Doing the same things, you all said Bush was doing, and hated Bush for.

So it just goes to show, it doesn’t matter what Obama does. You support it, because it’s Obama. Not because it’s good for the country.

capejasmine on June 8, 2009 at 2:49 PM

Translation: “If she just became a hypocritical phoney like eevery other politican and betrayed her principles to become better accepted.”

Not at all. I still like her, in spite of her position. That’s all I meant.

I disagree with her on this issue.

But that’s OK. I am still very supportive of her becoming a national voice or at least trying.

I just like a lot of her spunk and her actual opinions.

Not on this issue, however.

And there are pro-choice GOP folks.

So nobody try to convince me otherwise. And there are pro-gay-marriage GOP, too.

Social agenda issues divide the GOP, but you’re full of beans if you insist that everyone must agree with you on those issues.

BobMbx on June 8, 2009 at 2:42 PM

The thing is, outlawing abortion just. won’t. happen. Even with a pro-life president. It would require stacking the SCOTUS with pro-lifers and that won’t happen, either. It’s a stupid effin issue for people to base their entire choice on because of those reasons. It makes me so mad that people vote based solely on that.

Palin is a strong woman who chose to keep her “imperfect” (in the eyes of the eugenics people) baby. That threatens a lot of women who chose to abort perfectly perfect babies because it would have interfered with their career, sex life, whatever.

Someday voters will realize gay marriage, abortion, health care, education only matters if you HAVE A COUNTRY that can debate those things. At the rate we’re going we’ll be steamrolled by commies before people realize defense and economic viability are the most important issues to vote on.
