Quote of the day

posted at 9:30 pm on June 7, 2009 by Allahpundit

“The disinvitation from speaking, said a campaign committee official, was done ‘out of respect’ for Gingrich.

‘You dance with the one who brung ya,’ said the official, who stressed that event organizers were still happy to have Palin appear and be introduced…

Palin’s staff had even been sent an agenda with the governor’s speaking slot included.

But then a finance official with the NRSC called Palin aide Meg Stapleton Saturday night to say that Sessions didn’t want Palin to speak.

Recounting the conversation Sunday, Stapleton said she told the NRSC staffer: ‘Why, at a time when we’re trying to build the party, would you pull a move like that on somebody who earlier in the day just attracted 20,000 people?”

‘Why, at a time when we’re trying to build the party, would you pull a move like that on somebody who earlier in the day just attracted 20,000 people?’

It’s hard not to do things like that when you can’t see past your nose.

Chaz706 on June 7, 2009 at 9:33 PM

But many in the party establishment, mindful of her polarizing persona and the devastating caricatures that emerged last fall, would prefer she remain in Alaska and leave the party rebuilding to others who may appeal to the broad middle of the country.

is this true?

Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between the RNC and the NRSC … I recall the latter seems to have made a bad choice in Florida. Steele is the head of the former. Right?

So many dumb republicans in congress. Unbelievable. They disinvite a woman who is dynamic and conservative, and brings in the crowds; for a dinosaur that can’t make up his mind on an issue and said “the era of Reagan is over.”

Way to rebuild the party!!

jencab on June 7, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Tired of being derided as the gang that couldn’t shoot straight, Palin officials want it known that they were not responsible for this latest mix-up. They say the governor was happy to appear and fire up party loyalists, but that, yet again, GOP operatives and officials in Washington would just as soon try to marginalize her.

I tend to think this is the key paragraph in all this…

Palin is going riding out the GOP mess in Washington and is keeping her distance from the DC crapfest going on.
She’s running and she’s smart enough to play outside the beltway if there’s a chance to win the hearts and minds of a very pissed off electorate!

katy on June 7, 2009 at 9:40 PM

I’ll have to repeat myself. But the headline to the linked article is: Sarah Palin backs out of fundraising dinner — again

Why? She didn’t back out. She was asked to speak and then after she accepted was told she couldn’t. And there was no “again.” She denied previously accepting the invitation to speak.

So, why must the reporter story-maker-upper, write this junk?

If it isn’t plain to anyone else yet, these people at the top of the Republican structure don’t want things to change because if they play ball they will be rewarded by the new, unstoppable juggernaut.

These clueless clowns gave us Mccain and thus Obama and are getting their asses handed to them across this land because they demand DemLite candidates.

I will officially change my registration to Independent and hope Sarah runs as one!

If I could only get that wasted donation back from McNumbnuts I’d gladly give it to Sarah. It was intended for her in the first place.

califdreamnred on June 7, 2009 at 9:43 PM

These things happen for a reason. As Sarah would say, it’s Providential. The more she is shunned, the more it will pique curiosity. There is a strong movement against the Beltway and they only hurt themselves by not acknowledging Sarah. The GOP is clueless that the animosity is with them as much as it is the Dems…. but I think they will get the message sooner or later.

Meanwhile I love the way Sarah keeps popping up discreetly here and there. She is able to get her message across in these various venues. Smart lady.

Such as? Who is rebuilding the party right now? Jeb Bush? Mitt Romney? Michael Steele? All they seem to care about is getting in front of a camera and trying to appear “moderate”. Palin speaks from her heart and doesn’t act the way a poll or media pundit tells her she should.

Doughboy on June 7, 2009 at 9:45 PM

I think Sessions did Palin a huge favor–but of course he’s too dimwitted to know it. This latest slight from the Republican establishment in DC is only going to fire up her grassroots supporters even more. Most of us are already disenchanted with the feckless GOP and this latest boneheaded move on their part only reinforces our belief that THEY are the problem–not Palin.

“The reason given for the snub, said a Palin aide, was that NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions was concerned about not wanting to upstage former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, the fundraising gala’s keynote speaker.”

(emphasis mine)

Now what do you think we, or Republicans, can learn from that……….?

Why would she ‘upstage’ Newt…….?

…….. What could she possibly have to say that could cause this?

Why is she so popular with the CONSERVATIVE base……?

……… If you have a wining message, why would you not want it spoken?

How could more exposure of a Conservative message, attracting more Conservatives, and Conservative dollars to the party be a ‘bad’ thing……….?

……. And finally, why am I sending money to Gov. Palin and not to the NRCCNRCCNRFNNEECXCCCNENENRRRNCC, or what ever the hell they call themselves?!?!?

I don’t think she’s committed yet but she’s certainly keeping her foot in. She’s (blatantly) a team player but she’s ready to lead, should it be necessary.

I listened to her entire speech today. Her public speaking has improved a great deal since last November, which leads me to believe she’s been working on it. It’s very important for her to not assist the media next time around.

She mentioned being able to see “foreign countries” from Alaska. It was obviously a reference to SNL and the crowd obviously got it.

I hope she gets to the point where she can just quote Tina Fey directly: ” … but I really can’t see Russia from my house.” It would get an even bigger laugh and it would be in-your-face to the press.

Its funny, because one of the lines was:

Rush has often said we would be shocked if we knew the names of those who want to sell out the Conservative part of the GOP. It looks as if some of those names might have their fingerprints on this.

I for one will until otherwise convinced, believe Cornyn has something to do with this. Sessions is suspect for various reasons.

To some, it might look as if they think Gingrich is the one “who may appeal to the broad middle of the country”. He has won out over Palin in this mess. After his Sotomayor flip-flop, you would think he might be the one disinvited. Why can they both not speak? This move only makes those in charge look like two year olds not playing nice in the sandbox.

She said okay in March. Whatever in the world did they expect her to do? Write it in blood? This caricature of her handlers is also something we saw during the election. Some, the Establishment, wanted to paint her Alaskan people as idiots. It was the same after the election, and they within the GOP it would seem want to continue this meme. At this juncture, I am with Palin’s people and would love nothing more than to flush the GOP pompous asses down the toilet!

Here of late the GOP has been doing a pretty good job of saying NO to Obama. That is worth something right there.

Terrye on June 7, 2009 at 10:18 PM

All that matters in the end is her getting the votes from the conservative public. Ignore the RNC and any other alphabet groups sitting in their high-class offices inside the beltway.

PALIN 2012!

ThePrez on June 7, 2009 at 10:18 PM

Among rank and file Republicans Palin is at about 21%, about the same as Huckabee and Romney. I don’t think there is an overwhelming desire on the part of the average Republican voter to throw his or her undying support behind anyone right now.

There is plenty of time before the next election.

Terrye on June 7, 2009 at 10:18 PM

This is about steering the direction of the party. That is the thing that will win in 2012 not the fact that some of the republicans fought Obama.

Its all about principle and message. The RINO’s have neither.

livermush on June 7, 2009 at 10:14 PM

Mistake was mine, I admit it and am glad I was corrected. I did not mean to demean an honorable conservative by mistaking him for a pandering RINO.
Now lets see how he votes on Soda_Mayor that will tell us a lot about the man.

Terrye on June 7, 2009 at 10:14 PM

I see you got your lips unlocked from Mccains ass long enough to post here. How’d that workout for ya? About the way I told you it would? DemLite RINO’s won’t win elections.

dhunter on June 7, 2009 at 10:22 PM

This is the reason I’m no longer donating to the RNC and the CA GOP. The RNC is just unbeliveable when it comes to interacting with the most popular Republican in America. The CA GOP wants us to help the backstabbing Republicans who passed the tax increase. I’m only donating to SarahPac… She at least will help out conservative Republicans unlike the NSRC…

CCRWM on June 7, 2009 at 10:22 PM

What is the NRSC? I have a vague idea what the RNC is.

gh on June 7, 2009 at 10:14 PM

The NRSC is the National Republican Senatorial Committee. The President of this Committee is Sen John Cornyn from Texas.

The NRSC believes, like the Imams of Iran, that it’s their job to tell the people who they should vote for. It was Cornyn and the NRSC that reached it’s hand into the Florida Senatorial Primaries to endorse Semi-Obama Supporter Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio (a Cuban American dyed-in-the-wool Reagan Conservative). Now, if Marco Rubio wins (he is the better candidate) then the Democrats will be able to say that Rubio is merely the GOP’s “second choice” – all because John Cornyn and the NRSC are jackasses.

Now – in another brilliant move – they’ve dis’d Palin – who attracts crowds in the tens of thousands wherever she goes. You’d think they would be smart enough to find a role for someone with that kind of talent – but no – they’re idiots.

Sad to say folks – but the GOP is dead. Gone forever. We need to make another party – this one is broken beyond economical repair. It was infested with elitists who chewed the lumbers to the foundation. This building is condemned now – get the hell out before it falls in on you!

gh on June 7, 2009 at 10:14 PM

The NRSC is the National Republican Senatorial Committee and they are an official party group that works to get Republicans elected to the Senate. The problem is that over the past few years they have been doing a really crappy job.

Seven Percent:

Newt is a RINO?? Please.

Terrye on June 7, 2009 at 10:13 PM

Newt is pretty much an egotistical freelancer. I think he’s still trying to atone for the late 90′s.

ddrintn on June 7, 2009 at 10:24 PM

The way I see it, Sarah Palin is more popular in conservative circles than the Republicans in DC. The more they push her away, the more people move away from those same Republicans in DC.

No, don’t try to understand the appeal of someone like Palin. Instead, act foolish and insult those to whom she appeals.

Dreadnought223 on June 7, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Thanks. I thought the “S” was for “state”.

gh on June 7, 2009 at 10:24 PM

I like Newt, but if i have to pick between him and Palin… he loses! What the old boys don’t seem to get is that the base is tired of business as usual. The Tea Parties were not just about BHO and the Dems. The Republicans lost their way over W’s tenure and don’t seem to know how to find their way back. Sarah appeals to more than just conservatives. it is the entrenched politicos within the beltway who are afraid of her.

pgrossjr on June 7, 2009 at 10:25 PM

The first thing we need to worry about is taking back part of the gubment in 2010, worry about 2012 in 2011.

Spiritk9 on June 7, 2009 at 10:27 PM

There are a lot of conservatives who are not big Palin fans. I like the woman and respect her very much, but all of these people have personalities and whatever the problem is or was, it might not have anything to do with conservatism. It was probably just some mix up or personality clash or something silly like that.

Terrye on June 7, 2009 at 10:17 PM

It also seems there are a lot of conservatives who really just want to bring down Palin for the sake of bringing down Palin. Piling on. I just…don’t…get it.

HondaV65 on June 7, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Thanks ( missed your reply ).

I saw something on PBS in the mid-eighties about the US electoral system being rigged in favour of the two major parties so don’t you have to take over the existing party rather than start a new one? The tea party movement (or some of them, anyway) seems to have the right strategy: contest primaries for both parties.

gh on June 7, 2009 at 10:29 PM

Newt is a big cry baby. Anyone who requires that others be insulted in order to accept public recognition is not worthy of conservative support, let alone Palin’s company.

One of the main SOCIAL issues that conservatives are rallying around is the abuse of Conservative Women.

Newt supported Palin as McCain’s VP; but was that merely his facade to regain the good graces of the Party? Evidently so.

I’d support Palin. With sincerity and dedication, Palin is taking care of Alaska against the onslaught from the Leftist Washingtonians making survival illegal. Though I admire Newt’s ability to debate, I not only don’t trust him, I distrust Newt. Anyone as intelligent as Newt who signs onto Global Warming because he figures that’s what is popular deserves to be circumscribed and kept on a tight chain because left on his own, he’s destructive with obsessive greed. His latest affect of loyalty to Regan’s legacy, after promoting the death of the legacy is just too much to ignore.

Newt is a pompous ass.
