Poll: Obamateurism of the Week?

posted at 10:43 am on June 7, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Once again, it’s time for me to “hoist” the weekly Obamateurism poll onto Hot Air readers, and let me tell you, this week has some tough choices. In fact, if you counted up the number of Obamateurisms, this would be one of the longest weeks in the world, I think. Some would say that we shouldn’t have flashy polls during an economic crisis, but I’d ask those people to demonstrate the same tolerance the Muslims showed when they ran Cordoba during the Inquisition. And if for some reason hackers decide to black out this poll, at least they won’t continue that long string of major metropolitan blackouts that has pushed Obama to demand a cybersecurity czar.

Previous “winners”:

  • “We can no longer afford to spend as if deficits do not matter and waste is not our problem.”
  • Siccing Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel on tax cheats
  • Phony Churchill quote on torture throws Grandpa under the bus
  • Torture probe flip-flop
  • Obama covers up IHS while quoting Jesus
  • Austrian is a language?
  • Obama bows to the Saudi king
  • 1908 Model T got better gas mileage than today’s SUVs

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Defending and Protecting Islam is that part of Sharia Law?

So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed. That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn’t. And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.

Obama to press Stop taking my america hating seriously

Most of the speculation of my schedule in Germany doesn’t take into account simple logistics,” Obama said, before jokingly chiding reporters to stop promoting controversies without clear basis. “Stop it, all of you,” he told the press, in a light tone. “We have enough problems out there without having to manufacture problems.”

William Amos on June 7, 2009 at 11:19 AM

Oh PERFECT

The King/God has his own personal taste tester.

A US “taster” tested the food being dished up to President Barack Obama at a dinner in a French restaurant, a waiter said on Sunday.

“They have someone who tastes the dishes,” said waiter Gabriel de Carvalho from the “La Fontaine de Mars” restaurant where Obama and his family turned up for dinner on Saturday night.

“It wasn’t very pleasant for the cooks at first, but the person was very nice and was relaxed, so it all went well,” he said on the Itele news channel.

Asked by AFP to comment, the restaurant confirmed the report.

Number three won fairly because Obama was trying to hoist one over on us

I have an affection for Number two. Hoisting is done to flags. Obama does not like hoisting cheap symbols of patriotism except at news conferences. Could Obama be confusing democracy with a cheap symbol of patriotism?

Dare we assume Obama wanted to use the word ‘foist’.

foist, transitive verb – “To pass off as genuine, valuable, or worthy”

On a brighter note, Chrysler bond holders are taking Obama to the Supremes! Finally, a lawsuit we can love!

freeus on June 7, 2009 at 11:38 AM

How come you didn’t add these gems?
1. Obama’s food in France tested by taster.
2. Obama denies snub to German & French leaders by using the current economic crisis as an excuse.

“I have a very tough schedule and I would love nothing more than to have a leisurely week in Paris, stroll down the Seine, take my wife out to a nice meal, have a picnic in Luxembourg Gardens,” Obama said, pointing out that he was caught up in dealing with the pressing financial crisis at home.

“Those days are over for the moment,” Obama said, but promised to spend more time in France when he is an ex-president.

3. After his statement in point #2, he has a date night with Michelle. that ties up French police in riot gear.
4. Again, after showing concern about the economy as in point #2, Obama flies home while Michelle and the girls stay in Paris to shop.

Maybe these can be added to next week’s poll.

Isnt ” The US is one of the largest Muslim countries” and “You cant hoist Freedom on other countries” really the same mind set ?

Islam only exists in the US because of our freedoms. Its hostility to freedom is why it doesnt peacefully coexist with freedom in many spots in the world.

Islam is forced on people that is the problem with it.

We may have one of the largest muslim populations in the world (which is still under 1% of our total population), but we are NOT a muslim nation.

Definitely wishful thinking (freudian slip? subliminal suggestion?) on Bubblehead’s part.

I’m a Buddhist and Buddhists still outnumber muslims in this country (by 0.1%), but I wouldn’t dare suggest that we call America a ‘Buddhist Nation’. The audacity of hopenchange, I guess.

Oh – and ePirate – you are an apologist for Bubblehead. Stop misunderestimating (:P) the damage he is doing to this country.

Exactly why did Obama say it? To be offensive with all the “best intentions.” To put citizens on the defense, to make non-Muslims deny it, to make Christians in particular sound strident so that he can say, “Look how bitter they are with their antipathy for those who are different” AS IF that’s what is being said /not.

When it comes to the verbal faux pas, the misunderestimations, the historical misrepresentations, and the outright lies which, through politeness are represented as time limited and/or date stamped campaign pledges which have expired, Obama has outdistanced GWB by lightyears.

Yet GWB still suffers the worst character assassinations for a relatively few instances of any of those gaffes and/or faux pas’s which tripped him up. GWB was a good ole boy who spoke everyday language whereas Obama speak hoity toity flummery, and gets away with such nonsense because he has charisma, and is (ahem) “cool”. Bleah!

Thanks to Ed Morrissey’s “Obamateurism of the Week” it’s rather obvious which one is the most inept public speaker. Unfortunately, that says perhaps a bit too much about the general public, and especially the MSM, as to whether or not they are astute listeners or just Kool Aid drinkers.
