More bowing from the media

Newbusters has this, although Power Line and pretty much everyone else has it linked. Newsweek’s Evan Thomas talks about Barack Obama with Chris Matthews, and in the kind of skeptical, detached tone we have come to expect from the national media:
EVAN THOMAS: Well, we were the good guys in 1984, it felt that way. It hasn’t felt that way in recent years. So Obama’s had, really, a different task We’re seen too often as the bad guys. And he – he has a very different job from – Reagan was all about America, and you talked about it. Obama is ‘we are above that now.’ We’re not just parochial, we’re not just chauvinistic, we’re not just provincial. We stand for something – I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God. He’s-
MATTHEWS: Yeah.
THOMAS: He’s going to bring all different sides together.
Shorter Thomas: He’s kinda like God, only cuter! OMG!!
I’d echo John Hinderaker’s “Good Lord,” but Evan Thomas might think I’m talking about Obama. We laughed when Brian Williams bowed to Obama to wish him good night, although thankfully Williams didn’t offer to tuck him into bed, but this goes beyond a bow. Thomas is almost literally worshiping at Obama’s image in this clip. And Newsweek doesn’t just employ Thomas as a reporter; he’s one of their editors.
Maybe Newsweek should just get a room at the White House and cycle its staff through it in order to allow for non-stop fawning. When will they announce that they’re changing their name to The Gospel Of Barack? I’d guess … 2012.
The front-page pic comes from our friends at The Corner, who are having fun with this today.
Update: Allahpundit already had this. I read his post last night, which dealt mainly with the explanation on flip-flops, but didn’t click through to the video. Fortunately, though, we are not the new Jon & Kate, as a commenter suggested (although I laughed out loud at it); we do read each other’s posts, but sometimes we overlap.

Evan Thomas should have chosen his words more carefully…
Obama will return Washinton soon, and he may NOT be pleased!
I’m picturing Evan Thomas prostrate before The Chosen One…and as the lash descends upon him Obama shouts:
“Sort of a god? SORT OF???”
Poor Evan! Although (of course) our Dear Leader can be merciful, he does demand FULL respect!!

Some of the most provincial people I’ve ever met have been New Yorkers who like to use words like “provincial” when describing how they imagine rural people to be. Seriously, some of the folks I know from NYC don’t know one damn thing about anything West of the NJ Turnpike, and they go around calling other people “parochial” or “provincial”.

Newsweek knows they are a dying concern so why have any pretense of objectivity? They are acting as if they will cease to exist in 7 and a half years.
Pretty much all “mainstream” media is now dead as a reliable source of news. Pravda without the charm.
The final proof will be when Dear Leader’s taxes destroy the economy and nary a peep will emerge.

The media hated Bush because he unleashed the evil US military and the evil CIA on people of color from non-Western nations with “legitimate greivances” against the White devils. The thing is, the only Americans who were affected by this were the troops (who volunteered to serve) and their loved ones. By contrast, Obama’s awful economic policies will affect every American.
At a certain point, many people will start saying “You know, five years ago I was making a decent living and every time I turned on the TV I was being told how awful Bush was. Now I can’t pay my bills, my investment portfolio can’t buy me a Happy Meal and every time I turn on the TV I’m being told how wonderful Obama is”.
The MSM is in full Kamikaze mode. They will happily destroy themselves to accomplish their assigned mission.

I said this a while back. I advocated burning MSM reporters and commentators in effigy, but that wasn’t received too well.
Still…deep down inside, you know you want to.
And even if we don’t, because burning effigies is somehow “not family-friendly” (that’s debatable…), we may want to leave the kids at home and start showing up to media events with eggs.
It’s not about being family-friendly anymore. If we don’t go toe-to-toe with the MSM, who will? If we don’t start getting rude about how mad we are at them, WTF are we complaining about? If the MSM is a bully (and they are), why aren’t we standing up to them?

It’s about time the media humbled itself and, at this point, I don’t care to whom that subservience is aimed. The pic of that ‘reporter’ (I forget his name because it’s not worth remembering) will last forever, hopefully to remind future Americans the Presidency is NOT an Imperial station.
Can you imagine the stink two years ago had a reporter bowed to Bush? Liberals in general, and the ‘royal’ Kennedys most of all, would have had cows, kittens, and maybe nested a few dinosaur eggs (I won’t use the term ‘laid’ when mentioning a Kennedy).
Let the media fawn, I say. Excess is it’s own undoing and Lefties are known for consuming their own.
All good things come to those who wait.

It’s ok, the more they build him up the harder he shall fall. No one could possibly live up to their glorified version of who he is. As with Narcissus…”As divine punishment he falls in love with a reflection in a pool, not realizing it was his own, and perishes there, not being able to leave the beauty of his own reflection.”
scalleywag on June 6, 2009 at 4:13 PM
Eh. The sycophants would love to be sniffing this guy all over. They’d eat his sh!t if they thought he’d smile at them for it.
The only thing is that the actions FDR and JFK took would have landed them in front of a BHO “truth commission” for their war crimes. FDR understood the need to decimate cities and JFK threatened to nuke the USSR if Cuba launched a nuke at French Guyana – both extreme violations of the fantasy rules that liberals play by (and we won’t even go into what the CIA was doing to people during the COld War, which BHO also blamed for the ills of the third world and the muslim primitives during the Cairo stop of his Traitor Tour).
But my pointing out of the lack of “BHO”, given “FDR” and “JFK” is more for the bloggers at HotAir :)
progressoverpeace on June 6, 2009 at 4:16 PM
Correction: They’d love to eat his sh*t. Period. Although I’m sure Chris Matthews would be sorely disappointed when he realized Obama did not eat Collard Greens — How’s that Arugula, Chris?
Well, the left has whitewashed the sins of JFK. All they remember was that he somehow stopped Vietnam and loved MLK.
As for FDR… Well, times were different. This is what the left is always saying, right? Further, even though FDR was much more hawkish, they can always admire him for his stance with the Soviets and initially Mussolini. Basically Obama would be the love child of Carter and FDR with Eleanor rearing him…

Very true, which is why I always keep handy:
Third: It shall be the policy of this Nation to regard any nuclear missile launched from Cuba against any nation in the Western Hemisphere as an attack by the Soviet Union on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response upon the Soviet Union.
– Nationally televised JFK address, Monday, October 22, 1962
That usually has lefties dancing in circles for a little while, until they think everyone’s forgotten about it, again. Though I really love the standard liberal line that “threats to exterminate tens of millions of civilians are not against the Geneva Conventions”, which elicits huge laughter as the mere publication of photos of captive enemy soldiers constitutea a grave violation.
I’m still waiting for someone to ask The Precedent why he carries the nuclear footbal around with him. Yeah … I won’t hold my breath. I know that they all like to pretend that it doesn’t really exist …

ddrintn on June 6, 2009 at 4:31 PM
Hmmm… You really think he carries that football around?
I don’t believe he is a pacifist. If he were, he wouldn’t be involved in say Pakistan and he’d start bringing soldiers home (and not just from Iraq mind you). But I do wonder if he’s going to sell of South Korea, Taiwan, and perhaps Japan off. This would be his chance to do a Kennedy and tell the Chinese he will arm Taiwan, India, South Korean and Japan to the top if they don’t intervene with little brother (nuclear weapons included). This doesn’t mean that he has to start a new Cold War. I think the Chinese aren’t very happy with the Norks anyway. But they might think that the US has no backbone.

Thomas’ statement he’s god needs only slight modification. Assuming that Obama is not an enemy agent, his speech in Cairo may be summed up as follows: He thinks he can get Muslims to discern the true meaning of their religion based upon what he says about the religion, not based upon the words and deeds of its founder, the so-called prophet Mohammed.
And since, according to Muslims, the words of Mohammed came directly to him from Allah, through the angel Gabriel, Obama may not be god but he thinks he’s god.
Obama: a man who thinks he can change 1400 years of Muslim history with an opinion of Islam that contradicts the words of Allah.
This gives new meaning to the words arrogance and narcissism.
