Video: Han Solo takes on the Emperor?

Earlier today, I was flipping through some of my e-mailed links and noticed a curious ad in the New York Times. It featured Harrison Ford with the tagline, “Let’s not jeopardize another 1.2 million jobs.” I decided to check it out and see exactly what cause Ford was fronting. Apparently, the White House and Congress are considering hefty new fees on general aviation — private and small-commercial aircraft — and Ford as a private pilot wants to put a stop to it:

The website itself does a terrible job explaining what exactly they oppose. It lists no bill, no particular sponsor, and no contact for protesting the hike in fees. For an organization spending a lot of money on ads in the New York Times, they seem very disorganized.

Of course, so does Ford, if you look at his political contributions for last year. While Ford rightly laments the imposition of burdensome taxes on an industry close to his heart and the massive job loss that may follow, he could have prevented it by paying closer attention to the presidential race. As Newsmeat reports from public records, Ford has overwhelmingly supported Democrats over the last 20 years — and gave over $30,000 to Barack Obama’s Victory Fund last September.

Harrison Ford was maybe the best thing about Star Wars (all six films) and terrific in the Indiana Jones films. Today, though, I’ll cast him as Captain Louis Renault in Casablanca for his shock, shock! that a redistributionist Democratic Party might tax his industry into default:

Actually, he wouldn’t make a bad Rick in a remake …

Funny how all these celebrities come out from behind Obama’s curtain, when the thought of paying out more, or higher taxes, directly affects them. Then suddenly, it’s important what the government is up to.

I’m betting they sat on their couches, and cheered the vitriol that was slung at AIG execs, and rallied around, over the thought of bank execs getting their salaries regulated.

Welcome to the Obamanation oh intelligent ones.

I am sorry, but I have read many of the posts and sense that the left has infiltrated Hot Air to slam a Hollywood star that is supposed to be aligned with them but is not so on this subject.

As an aviation professional, and having personally spoken with Mr. Ford about his love of aviation. I agree that the Administration is slowly bleeding/attacking the general aviation community. Aviation at the local level is a revenue source that the Administration and other politicians can not directly control. Because in the beginning days of aviation, the government and industry mandated that airports and aviation be self sustaining operations. So, to get at the money, the Administration impose unfunded mandates requiring air carriers and other providers of aviation services (cargo, movement, mail, defense, etc.) to pass on to the customer you, the public.

So when you go through that hassle at the airport ticketing and security screening, baggage office (because your bags are lost), and the Rental Car line remember you are paying for these services and the provider wants to give you more for your money. But, every time the price increases it is because the government is sucking away the profit through unfunded mandates. Mandates that you be subjected to increasing scrutiny, environmental laws that conflict with reality, and demands that we provide you things that are not directly related to improving the experience.

MSGTAS,

Sorry but my sympathy level is very low.

Harrison Ford and the rest of the Gulfstream Liberal hypocrites have actively supported and worshiped the 0bamamessiah. Now he is whinging about his pet industry taking it in the shorts. Well boo-freaking-hoo! ALL of us are taking it in the shorts because of the 0bamamessiah and the Corruptocrats policies.

As to your comment…

Thanks to fools like Harrison Ford soon none of us will be worrying about those things because no one will be flying anywhere. We won’t be able to afford it.

My thoughts exactly.

However, a stopped watch is right twice a day. If Harry Ford is now whining about something we normally think ourselves, it’s best to support him.

Yes, he’s a moron libby Hollyweird git, but on this he’s right to be concerned, and we should be too.

Isn’t interesting that the ones who support the pro-statist policies always balk when those same policies negatively effect them? Harrison Ford, Steve Ballmer, Alec Baldwin and a host of others should be in a montage that congratulates them on waking up and encourages them to help elect candidates that fit their newly discovered viewpoints. However, they should also be concerned with other American industries facing the same plight and not just those with which they have a financial interest.

Did Mr. Ford support B. Hussein? He needs to get together with Whoopie, who is also screaming about taxes. They can start a support group.

When the rest of the dim bulbs in Hollywood wake up with their bank accounts empty, I’m gonna have a long deep laugh.

PHUCK HIM and the rest of the imbeciles that supported the DER OBAMA.

Some people have earned complete immunity from my criticism for things they have done that I deem awesome. Harrison Ford is one of them. Yeah he’s a hypocrite, but he played Indiana Jones and Han Solo so I just can’t stay mad at the guy. :)

The ultimate in….

“you get what you pay for”

Sorry Harrison, you bought this misery. There are very few ways to fix it now and crying that your personal favorite is getting hit is not one of them.

ummm … GA regulations and taxes were being proposed under Bush and the congress of the better part of the last decade …

PresidenToor on June 7, 2009 at 1:15 AM

So Ford gave Obama over $30,000. A lot of folks don’t even make that much per year and are going to be hurt directly or indirectly by the Democrats economic screw ups. If Ford ain’t willing to wise up and throw a few million at undoing his past mistakes by helping to get Democrats out of power then why should anyone give him one thin dime.

Grease up Harrison and welcome to reality.

Imagine that, the Federal Government was regulating and taxing GA, WOW!!!!

I wonder how fiercely Dems fought those policies; got any links? The Dems are in power now, are they proposing rollbacks?

Oh, the humanity! I never thought I would be affected PERSONALLY! It’s all part of The One’s modus. By the time the dunderheads wake up, it will be too late.
