Matthews on Palin: It’s “paranoid” to think big government leads to controlling the people

posted at 7:45 pm on June 5, 2009 by Allahpundit

Yeah, seriously. When has that ever happened? Eight years of leftist caterwauling about the coming Bush dictatorship was not, of course, “fear, fear, fear,” but simply prudent, responsible small-R republicanism in response to an expansion of executive power. Now we’ve got a liberal nationalizing major banks and the American auto industry, with health care on the way, and the thought that this might mean a heavier federal hand over the population is an idea worthy of the X-Files. The tax burden alone to pay off our astronomical debt will mean significantly less freedom over how we spend our income; pile on green regulations and the inevitable rationing of medical care to handle demand and you’re well into European “third way” territory. Is that “control” enough for you, Chris?

I honestly wonder how to explain his incredulity here at such a basic economic point. Is it dishonest propaganda for The One? Honest spinning because he believes Obama’s intentions are good, notwithstanding the various reports we’ve had of him strong-arming executives and creditors of failing companies? Or is it sheer contempt for Palin blinding him to the merits of her point? I have a crazy hunch that if an anti-war kook like Ron Paul made the same libertarian argument, Matty would find it perfectly agreeable.

Of course the left wing socialist establishment (like Matthews) doesn’t fear this kind of government, his ilk are PART OF IT.

If it’s not about controlling the people ultimately, why has CONTROL been the main thing Obama has been grabbing whenever possible?

wildcat84 on June 5, 2009 at 7:48 PM

Well Chrissie, name just one dictatorship that did not involve big government? Just one. You’ve had all that wonderful education at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and grad work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, surely you can come up with just one.

When it becomes common knowledge that Bill Ayers wrote Dreams From My Father for Obama, will Matthews apologize for poking fun at Palin for co-authoring a book?

I don’t think so.

Sarah Palin’s inarticulate way of expressing the truth is preferable by far to Barack Obama’s beautiful lies..

And it’s not paranoia if you’re right.

OneEyedJack on June 5, 2009 at 7:56 PM

I’ll just point out that the MSM, and in particular Matthews employer MSNBC (aka NBC, aka GE), has a major conflict of interest in that they are seeking a federal bailout. OF COURSE they’re going to try to shoot down any talk of government restraint.

Matthews is a tool of Obama. He will say whatever his master wishes. It isn’t about hating Palin, worshiping Obama, or being naive. Matthews is part and parcel of a media-wide propaganda machine. Hitler had his; Obama has Matthews. Mr. Tingle-Leg is simply a cog in a machine concentrated on one sole objective: destroying America.

BPD on June 5, 2009 at 8:04 PM

It’s all Palin. She makes the lefties’ heads explode. Notice the Seneca Falls post on Politico. The comments are unbelievable. All you have to do is spell P-A-L … and the lefties come unhinged and start belting out the talking points they’ve been spoon fed since the campaign.

Never mind that Palin has actually been pretty darn “intellectual” (for lack of a better term) over the past couple of months. The left never allows facts to get in the way of a good meltdown.

As a certain wise young man once put it, “It’s hard to be religious when certain people are never incinerated by bolts of lightning.”

The greatest problem facing our nation, IMHO, is that there is no penalty for being a willful fool any longer. In fact, there are now great rewards for being one! People like this @$$clown would have been relegated to the role of village idiot in our nation’s earlier history…now they get a stage from which to influence millions of minds – all too many of which are gullible enough to believe anything they see/hear on TV.

Goes well beyond that. When Obama’s “green” bullshit programs get implemented, guess who stands to make billions selling “green” technology to the government?

Give up? It’s GE of course. That’s the setup. I don’t think GE gives a rat’s ass about Obama or his policies. But if they don’t give him the coverage he wants, they can say buh-bye to all those juicy “green” contracts.

As always, follow the money and you get the answer.

The government controls every aspect of my business. They determine my school’s refund policy, how much insurance I have to have, the student/teacher ratio, curriculum, etc. They even have to approve each individual course I teach and each instructor who teaches. They change rules without public comment or input of the people affected. I compete against state-funded colleges and universities that take my tax dollars to fund state-of the art facilities while I do a better job with 10% of their budget. I am fortunate that I have a good relationship with the government; they need my services, too. But all it would take would be a couple of cronies determined to ruin my business and it would be over. This in a ‘free market, pro-business’ state like Idaho. Glad I left California thirty years ago.

petefrt on June 5, 2009 at 8:21 PM

Along these lines, I note the grim irony that modern parents now have to deal with peer pressure as a bad thing. Playing fair, staying away from drugs, valuing school studies and keeping your pants zipped until marriage were once known to be good things by the majority of young people and enforced by peer pressure. ‘Users’, perverts, the lazy and the promiscuous were insulted and held in contempt, and rightly so.

Now everything has done a complete 180. Being a semiliterate book-hater is a badge of honor in many places (seen it myself). You’re ‘repressed’ or ‘a square’ if you don’t screw everything that walks upright. Our values have been yanked out from under us and replaced with garbage as what is normal and good. Black is white, stupid is smart, evil is good.

To the hardcore leftist, freedom is liberalism. So, if liberalism restricts choices and in fact submits your wants and needs to the whim of bureaucrats, well, as long as they are leftist bureaucrats you are free.

In evil rightwing America being able to choose to give you money to charity, save it for your children, or even splurge on yourself is oppression.

In happy leftwing America, having Obama determine which of his friends or political allies your money will go to is “positive freedom”.

It isn’t that hard to understand…if you have the right dictionary…

Even better, there are no longer 5 Palin bashing posts a day.

Blake on June 5, 2009 at 8:57 PM

You’ve nailed Matthews on his classic case of projection, AllahP.

Matthews can only wish to be as articulate about and supportive in validating an idea as Rush or Palin. Sorry, Chris, but “Fear, fear, fear” is not a credible rebuttal, and that Lefty mantra is so yesterday as far as campaign talk.

Apparently, Matthews’s historical knowledge is wanting if he is unaware of how the fascistic corporatists Hitler and Mussolini seized power. He can look at the object lesson down in Venezuela if he needs the more modern example. Chavez dominates the airwaves in his now state-owned media just a little more than Obama, but the Teleprompter King is closing in on the prize.

1) the danger of political correctness

2)there is no need to abandon Reagan conservatism

3)criticizing Obama for his ‘apology’ tour

4)Washington taking away the freedom of Americans

5)Why she would be a great CIC

“We win; they lose.” (Ronald Reagan quote)

6)mocking Obama’s devastating economic policies

7) alluding to the Narcissism of Obama and his followers

8) linking the destruction of the economic prosperity of America and Americans as immoral and the product of misguided socialist policies

9) upholding the 10th Amendment and the danger of the stimulus package to states rights

10)the feds will soon be bailing out state governments in debt

11)affirmation of God and not the power of government

12)the emergence of state-owned, uniform media

13)willingness to sacrifice her career to speak out

14)slamming politicians who only care about getting re-elected

Quite a bit of red meat for only a 17 minute speech

The only rational explanation for the media’s obsession with the Church of Obama must be closely related to the “Battered Wife Syndrome”, where no matter how bad it gets, even when the wife beater is in the back of the police car, the wife screams at the police “He didn’t mean to hurt me….don’t take him away!…I love him!!!! I’d like to know what would have happened if the Jews in the Warsaw Uprising had 6 F-15s?

Oy vey! Get it wholesale!

Jews: Nazi ba$tards ratio too disparate.

Rather unrealistic…if they’d had typical light-infantry equipment (LMG’s, bazookas, battle rifles, etc.) the streets would have run red with Nazi blood. Look how much the Iraqi insurgents are costing us with jury-rigged bombs and whatever guns they can smuggle in – most of which are cheap clone crap?

You know Chris Matthews should change his name to Joseph Goebbels because he is already acting like the Minister of Propaganda (or maybe that should be the Propaganda Tzar?) for the Obama administration.

Chris Matthews: “Move along here people. Nothing to see. The Obama Government is here to help. Pay no attention to that silly Palin broad or that carnival barker Rush.”
