Mark Levin audio: Tearful military wife rips Obama’s Cairo speech

The boss digs it but I’m ambivalent, just like I was about that “Dear Mr. Obama” video last year that everyone else flipped for. It’s a hawk’s version of the left’s Absolute Moral Authority fallacy, where validity is ascribed to some sympathetic victim’s stance on policy simply because they’re a victim. (The ultimate example: Cindy Sheehan.) How many lefty military wives were relieved yesterday to have The One try to dial down tensions with Muslims, thinking it might spare their husbands an attack by jihadis that otherwise would have taken place? Also, in fairness, The One didn’t “apologize” for the war. He said it was a war of choice, that opinions differed, that it reminds us of the value of diplomacy, but that he’s glad Saddam’s gone and that we owe it to Iraq to help them rebuild. In a speech with multiple lame passages, that was hardly the lamest.

Even so, note this question: “So if [my husband] goes out there, does he die in vain?” Answer, according to Obama’s logic: Yes. I devoted an entire post to that idea during the campaign, and then a follow-up a few weeks later. He explicitly said, in the very last line of his famous 2002 anti-war speech, “Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain.” Fast forward six years, after he became the Democratic nominee, and suddenly he’d decided that no soldier who follows the orders of his commander-in-chief — like, say, George W. Bush — ever dies in vain. The two concepts are irreconcilable; the only way to explain the change is the fact that The One was himself vying to be C-in-C and knew that voters wouldn’t trust him if he went around telling grieving families that their sons had died for nothing. That should have been an early warning to the anti-war crowd that he was willing to sell them out for political advantage. Mission accomplished, no pun intended.

I am always amused by the idea of a lefty military since the military is all volunteer. America hating atheistic lefties are not about about to volunteer to serve God and Country. There are a few lefties but 99% of the military are conservative traditional leaning folks.

In other news, we had an attack on the embassy today. A rocket hit just on the other side of the east wall. Had it traveled another few feet it would have cleared the wall and probably killed many Filipino workers who were working about 50 yards down range. The concussion wave blew my hair back and I was inside a truck about a hundred yards away. No damage or injuries — this time. It was by far the biggest explosion I’ve experienced here so far.

They intend to pull our troops out to the outskirts of Baghdad starting June 30. I imagine things will get really bad here then. Until our housing is completed in November we will be living in the Red Zone — with our military literally miles away.

1, 2, 3, what are we fighting for?
Our troops have just been slammed
Barack thinks it’s Vietnam.
5, 6, 7, set him straight, “Bill” Gates,
Well I don’t know whether to laugh or cry,
Whoopie! Our morale just died.

I hope those too young to know the original song can appreciate the irony here.

The American soldier is the American treasure we hold so closely to our heart! You and your comrades are the heart and soul of this country soldier. Politicians think they are the heart and soul, that’s how far outside of the mainstream these creatures live. How often are any of us proud of our politicians? No, no, no; bravery, commitment, love of country, putting it all on the line. You know about this HornetSting, a politician only knows what is best for him/her self. I don’t know you personally, but I do feel like I know what’s in your heart, what’s in your spirit. You have my admiration and respect, for what that’s worth.

I must say, this post bothers me a great deal. I’ll leave it at that for now. You, the HA community; you folks are the best. I also admire the work done by Ed Morrissey, as well as the man. I got to know Ed quite well during the Captains Quarters era. But it is this community that keeps me in this game. I thank all of you for that.

HornetSting, you bring some of those black birds here to my little area of Montana so we can hunt some Elk dammit. I’m getting tired of coming home empty handed!

Didn’t see the attack reported on the news today, but I have been busy. Keep your head down and thanks for your service!

I find it troubling that an attack on the embassy is not news worthy. It’s BIG news here today. Trust me.

You know, I can’t help but notice another particularly interesting passage in Barry’s ‘02 speech AP linked to above.

You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure our so-called allies in the Middle East, the Saudis and the Egyptians, stop oppressing their own people, and suppressing dissent, and tolerating corruption and inequality, and mismanaging their economies so that their youth grow up without education, without prospects, without hope, the ready recruits of terrorist cells.

Man, he really threw down the gauntlet for those oppressive, dissent-suppressing, corruption-tolerating Egyptians and Saudis this past week, didn’t he?

You didn’t serve with the jerks, but the lefties are the ones you read about that join up, and then when something happens like a gulf war, whine about how they didn’t join up for that, but the taxpayer dollars at the end to get through college.

I knew one of those, at the same time my son was signing up for real just after 9/11. He would act bizarre ( that was nothing new) about how his son was in the Army during all the stupid, but stuff. But never fear folks.. the kid managed to come up with a medical reason to leave. I told my son, if he was going to join up, he was going to keep his word. Period.

It just breaks my heart that anyone in our military or their families should feel like this. Breaks my heart & makes me furious. What an irresponsible little puke, messing with the people who protect us so he can strut around the world stage building up his own ego. Sickening. I can’t comprehend going through this for 4 years, I really can’t.

If anything his speech will embolden those who seek to destroy us.

dogsoldier on June 6, 2009 at 1:13 PM

Allah,

We aren’t “victims”, we chose to live the life we live and we’re damned proud of it.

It’s just a little tiring to be kicked in the teeth by our CinC.

This clown was handed his position for doing nothing more than reading speeches off of a teleprompter. He knows nothing about sacrifice or duty, beyond others sacrificing for HIM and their duty to HIM.

I may get deployed to Afghanistan, under the direction of this idiot and his circus clown “admininstration”?

Well, if I get offed, at least I’ll be comforted by the thought that the Bed Crapper in Chief will apologize for me getting in the way of Muslim bullet or bomb.

NoDonkey on June 7, 2009 at 8:29 AM

Give ‘em Hell Mark and God bless Heather along with everyone else who sits on pins and needles waiting for this to end in a proper and just manner (we win).

Oh, and by the way, please deliver us from the ineptitude of those “in charge.”
