Video: MSNBC very angry at having its Limbaugh obsession pointed out

posted at 6:55 pm on June 4, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via Greg Hengler. If, like E.J. Dionne, you’re dumb enough to believe that the media hypes Rush’s controversies because it’s secretly right-wing rather than overtly left-wing and intent on framing Obama as centrist and “reasonable” by comparison, then you’re probably also dumb enough to believe he’s in constant rotation on MSNBC because the brain trust there finds him genuinely relevant and interesting. This is, of course, part of the Rahm/Carville/Begala strategy of tarring the GOP with every distortable soundbite to exit Limbaugh’s lips; no surprise that a network known for bowing to Obama — literally — would be willing to lend a hand. Today’s soundbite du jour comes from last night’s Hannity:

No, I don’t back away from anything I’ve said about President Obama and his policies and his plans. I don’t know him personally. I don’t wish him ill as a human being. But he’s my president. He’s all of our president. His ideas and his policies matter.

I can’t remember who said this, but you know this is something that I’ve thought long and hard about repeating in this interview with you: If Al Qaeda wants to demolish the America we know and love, they’d better hurry because Obama’s beating them to it.

Why he insists on gratuitously provocative comparisons like that knowing how the left will use them to make Republicans squirm is beyond me, but it sure does keep his name in the news. Exit question: Are Rush and MSNBC co-dependent?

Update: John Ziegler keeps it short and to the point.

If the GOP would mount something that resembles a consistent opposition, then the focus wouldn’t be only on Limbaugh.

ddrintn on June 4, 2009 at 7:32 PM

Exactly. If the GOP had their game on then MSNBC would be talking about them instead of Rush.

Hey leftist @$$holes: truth hurts. Obama is doing more to destroy this country then Atta ever thought possible in his wildest dreams.

Obama has already destroyed parts of this country……..

………. the “ripple effect” is just starting to spread.

But, by all means, let’s talk about Rush……

…….. and bow before Obama.

Seven Percent Solution on June 4, 2009 at 7:58 PM

I don’t think Rush was comparing Obama to Al Qaeda, because there is no comparison.

Al Qaeda killed 3,000 people in 4 hours.

Obama will be slowing torturing several million people for the next 4 years. This is a slow and painful death of a country.

No comparison. Al Qaeda kills people, Obama kills countries.

PappaMac on June 4, 2009 at 7:59 PM

I like how she says MSNBC has the right to defend themselves against Rush. Ummmm… he is criticizing the President and the left. Aren’t you a nonpartisan news organization????

sammypants on June 4, 2009 at 7:49 PM

Obama, the Media…Same thing

bluelightbrigade on June 4, 2009 at 7:59 PM

MSNBC is an Obama shill network and an integral part of the media’s left wing propaganda machine. Furthermore, that woman is an absolute idiot that surely does protest too much and is either a shameless liar or extraordinary stupid. Those three were frothing at the mouths like rabid dogs which is typical behavior for that douche bag network. Limbaugh was comparing degrees of national destruction between Obama and Al Qaeda and his assessment was right on the money. MSNBC and their gaggle of fools have no legitimate retort and must resort to slobbering, whining, yelling and muttering incoherent left wing tripe.

rplat on June 4, 2009 at 7:59 PM

If we had no Rush, Sean, Mark et al …

Tell me …

What would the Republican narrative “be” right now?

I’ll tell you – it would be brutally obvious that the GOP is a hulking, impotent shell of a party. We’d have David Frum, and Megan McCain, and Kathleen Parker all lecturing us like a bunch of Kindergarten teachers. There would be NO “hard nosed” attacks.

In short – it would SUCK – and badly so.

Hopefully Rush will let loose another bomb on tonight’s Hannity.

I see no one seems to have picked up on the fact that he said it was okay to talk about “fascism” now. He said that last night too!

GO RUSH!

RUSH IS LIKE … well he’s like the guys in the Alamo who faced down Santa Anna and kept him busy while Sam Houston and the Texans organized for the counter assault.

That is EXACTLY what Rush is doing – and doing it well. But when do the “Texans” get their act together??? Rush can’t hold out forever.

They are all little perverts who had sexual fantasies about their mother who consequently become more and more emotionally detached from them. Barack Obama is like their substitute mother and nanny whom they think will never leave them. That is not the full diagnosis, of course, but that is their main root of all their mental maladies.

Hog Wild on June 4, 2009 at 8:11 PM

Why should we play by the left’s rules? They paint Rush out to be a bogey man, so we should bite our nails every time he opens his mouth? Go watch some of the footage from Entertainment Tonight when they were interviewing A list celebrities at the premiere for Fahrenheit 9/11 and imagine what would happen to any theater that would dare to show a similar movie about Obama during his re-election campaign.

We need to fight fire with fire. Bin Laden is right about his “strong horse” theory. Liberals are the strong horse because they are fearless and defiant. I’m proud to be a confrontational conservative.

You know all those environmentalists who bring burlap bags to the grocery store to pack their stuff in? Well, I bring my own plastic bags to Whole Foods because they only have those big, bulky, cumbersome paper bags. You should see the looks I get. When I see someone staring at me I start muttering “plastic is good, plastic is good” under my breath. One time someone asked me if I re-use the bags. I said “no, they go right in my garbage can along with bottles and metal cans, recycling is for sissies”.

RobCon on June 4, 2009 at 8:22 PM

MSNBC anchor that has Obama posters on the wall at home, and probably also in her office, is extremely offended by those that refuse to pledge allegiance.

It’s good comedy, as usual.

Of course, Limbaugh is loving the attention. It’s hilarious, how he controls the drive-by state-run media now.

Moesart on June 4, 2009 at 8:26 PM

Why he insists on gratuitously provocative comparisons like that knowing how the left will use them to make Republicans squirm is beyond me…

Because you are mired in appeasing the national media that will take you out of context because they want to foist a narrative.

As Jeff Goldstein says, grow a pair. Republicans “squirm” because they acquiesce to the MSM/Leftist narrative.

bains on June 4, 2009 at 8:26 PM

Limbaugh has officially renamed the drive-by media “the State run Media” and it is too much of the truth for those beastly critters to handle. Notice they aren’t even trying to deny or defend themselves…

State Run Media has now replaced Main Stream Media.

Keemo on June 4, 2009 at 8:33 PM

The GOP, from Steele on down, needs to stop hiding behind Obama’s skirts hoping and praying that people will stop hating them or the media will start giving them a fair shake.

The GOP needs to change its phone number and not let Frum have the new one.

Kensington on June 4, 2009 at 8:44 PM

Since Bill Bennett knows so many senators I wrote him an email about how hapless the GOP is in answering the SRM in general and specifically when they are asked to answer for Rush. I even wrote a script. Talk radio is our information division of a nonexistent media department of the GOP. Have anyone ever seen an elected Democrat asked to answer for James Carville or Keith Obermann. Not that anyone should have to answer for Keith, I bet the Dems even think he’s a goof.

Cindy Munford on June 4, 2009 at 8:44 PM

Does any sentient being actually watch MSNBC? Come on..

JIMV on June 4, 2009 at 8:45 PM

There are two very different views of us the electorate. the MSM and thereby most sheeple believe the the Democrats are to the left, the Republicans to the right and there is this vast sea of independents in the middle.

I think that which we call the Republican party is dead center. I think the independents are to the right of the Party. Not in the middle. Especially this Party. There is no one in the middle.

That’s why when the RP thinks it is moving to the center it is loosing voters. We stay at home. It is why conservative don’t lose. Moderate Republicans do.

The first model suits the purpose of the left, please look back at the first Clinton election and what percentage voted for Perot? Wasn’t it 18%? If people had believed he could win, their would have been a lot more than that. I think the conservative base is larger than people think.

odannyboy on June 4, 2009 at 8:48 PM

It’s amazing that Rush can simulaneously take on the White House and its entire propaganda wing, single-handedly.

He’s not comparing Al Queda to Obama at all. He said Obama is going to destroy the country before Al Queda can. Only a moron would assume that the “destruction” implied would be similar in both instances; we all know the Obama destruction is economic while the Al Queda destruction would be acts of violence.

Why participate in the wilful mis-interpretation of his comment?

TexasDan on June 4, 2009 at 8:49 PM

angryed on June 4, 2009 at 9:22 PM

Hmmm…Allah, you obviously are not a fan of Rush Limbaugh. Don’t be such a fool. Your exit question is ridiculous. MSNBC and Limbaugh codependent?! are you crazy? Limbaugh existed long before MSNBC and he will be around long after they are off the air. Limbaugh had 20+ million listeners before MSNBC and he will have them in the future.

I am sick and tired of “Conservatives” like you who attack those that speak their mind in the Conservative and Republican party. The problem with the Conservative movement is that while the left says TRULY outrageous things that are a lie, the media picks these up and run with them as facts. Individuals like Allahpundit run to a corner, suck their thumb and cry, when a Conservative dare says the truth about Liberals and the Liberal leaders.

If Conservatives had bigger balls, they wouldn’t squirm about anything Rush says. The problem is that while Rush has run to the defense of countless Republicans and Conservatives, so called Conservatives like Allahpundit do not mind playing the media’s game that Rush Limbaugh is some how extreme Right.

Get a clue Allahpundit, no wonder Rush didn’t mention your name when he gave kudos to HotAir for coming to his defense a few weeks back.

the FACT is that Obama IS destroying America, no doubt abouti. Al Qaeda wants to do it through bombs and killing Americans. Obama is doing it through laws and policies. AT the end, however, both will achieve the same. An America that no longer holds Judeo/Christian values. An America that is NOT what the Founding Father’s created.

Don’t be such a coward, Allahpundit, don’t be such a wimp, don’t be such a tool for the left wing media. It is so called Conservatives like you that do so much harm to the Conservative cause. I don’t post on HotAir often, but I read it every single day, I have never understood why Michelle Malkin allows you to blog on HotAir.

I think there are more than a few Republicans that want to remain in the minority. In the minority, they have no responsibility. they can’t be blamed for anything,, but can always make the case to the naive back home that they are needed.
What does a congress person actually do with their day when they are in the minority??? When they are shut out of all meetings?? When they really have no responsibility for much of anything, while they keep on collecting a paycheck.
Seriously,,, I have been wondering what some of these people actually do with their time. How many hours a week do they actually work. And if it is very little,, some may not want that to change.

MSNBC is a pathetic joke, the lady that became “outrage” over Alex’s point that MSNBC can’t survive without talking about Rush Limbaugh used to be a news anchor here Chicago’s local Fox channel. The woman is a perfect idiot.

You also have to love the reason they gave of why they cover Rush Limbaugh, “…because they have an obligation to do so since he has such a huge audience!” HAHAHA!!!

They can’t even lie with a straight face. The ONLY reason they cover Rush Limbaugh is because they think it brings them viewers, it is ALL about ratings. Both of the MSNBC idiots know this.

What about this he said about Bush? “”There is a dictionary definition, one word that describes that toxic blend. You’re a fascist — get them to print you a t-shirt with “fascist” on it! What else is this but fascism?””

And don’t forget this Olby quip gripe about Bush:
“You would not merely be guilty of siding with the terrorists. You would not merely be guilty of prioritizing the telecoms over the people… You would not merely be guilty of treason, sir… You would be personally, and eternally, responsible. We will not fear the recognition of the manipulation of our yearning for safety — we will call it what it is: terrorism.”

One thing that bugged me about Savage is that he insisted that Rush was a tool for the GOP and Rush just carried their water. But now Rush is bucking the GOP big time and was never in lock step with anything other than true conservatism. I wonder what Savage thinks now?

Another thing that bugged me about Savage was that he was not entirely on board with the Tea Parties. He made zero contribution to the movement and even down played it since it was not his idea. Then he partially changed his mind a tiny bit. Savage is a major pain in the ass sometimes. But he did make the libtards in England look real bad.

Rush is rock solid and we are lucky to have him. The Repukes we have now on the other hand are flaccid wishy washy RINOS like Ahhhnold et al.

More of the same old, tired tactics. The MSM is nothing if not predictable. They will continue to try and divide the Republican Party using Rush. Some in the party play into it by following the “well Rush should stop feeding them ammo,” but that plays into the hands of the left. Rush shouldn’t be forced to censor himself until he sounds like NPR.

The leftists in the MSM need to be called out for focusing on the comments of Rush when we’re dealing with home grown Islamic terrorism, record unemployment, skyrocketing debt, and a president who selected a person that espouses ethnocentric ideology as his nominee for the US Supreme Court. Their focus on Rush, over real controversy that impacts real people, reveals their bias. Alex handled the MSNBC stooges well.

Why he insists on gratuitously provocative comparisons like that knowing how the left will use them to make Republicans squirm is beyond me, but it sure does keep his name in the news.

He does it because it makes a real point in a humorous way. This country is being harmed significantly by Obama’s policies. The damage Obama is inflicting on this nations economy is more severe than the fiscal impact of the WTC attacks(though that was nothing compared to the incalculable human cost that resulted from that horrible attack).

State Run Media-SRM, I love it!! (besides the fact it’s true)

MSNBC is a joke. They’re so far in the tank for this current administration it’s pitiful. It hasn’t occurred to them that Rush tweaks their nose on purpose, and they run after it hook, line and sinker. Just Wed, referring to Gingrich retracting his use of the word racist and the fact that he (Rush) won’t back down from his statements, he made an off the cuff comment regarding Sotomayor and her policies. In a very short time, MSNBC makes a news bulletin about it!! Rush’s site article about it, is entitled “Never Has Something Worked So Well, So Fast (and So Hilariously)” He knows exactly what he’s doing – and it’s not to be the center of attention. He’s laughing his @$$ off knowing that SRM is going to make a huge deal out of things he says. And the SRM is apparently too stupid to see that.

I love watching the liberal’s spit and sputter and froth at the mouth whenever they’re unable to answer intelligently. Maybe our spineless RINO’s in office should take a page from the “Rush Book” and take back our Country while the left sits in the corner melting into a puddle of blithering goo.

ladyhawke53 on June 5, 2009 at 8:58 AM

Rush making ‘outrageous’ statements is his job. MSNBC hanging on his every word is pathetic. MSNBC trying to use Rush’s words to hang the Republican part is their job.

gwelf on June 5, 2009 at 9:46 AM

Rush is right!

mz.josephine on June 5, 2009 at 10:25 AM

This is the only way Main Stream Naturally Bogus Commentary gets us to draw our focus away from their messiah. Deflecting the issue that our country is going to hell in a handbasket and instead, talking about Rush. If they really wanted to be true journalists, they would need to hire Sherlok Holmes, cause they just don’t have a clue as to what the hell is going on.

theRealMcCoy on June 5, 2009 at 10:30 AM

I do think Rush says things a certain way and repeatedly makes statements that are easy to be taken out of context like “I hope he Fails”. The reason, in my opinion, is two fold. One it is good publicity for him and keeps people talking about what Obama does. This gets out the conservative message.

The second reason is that it makes it easiet to point out how the left purposly will misquote a conservative to make them look bad.

jeffn21 on June 5, 2009 at 10:56 AM

If she really wants to know if Rush’s statement about Dear Leader ruining our country faster than alqueda, she should check with Hugo and Fidel… you know the dictators claiming our Pres is fuarther left than they are!

Rush is paid to comment his thoughts, and opinions on political matters.

If the msm’s want to drag it out, and let what few viewers they have left, listen to it…fine. If a few more of those viewers see a glimmer of truth in his comments, and go in search of a higher truth, than the likes of MSNBC, and NBC, or even CBS, CNN, or ABC offer….good for them.

If they choose to wallow, and speculate in it…that’s fine too. But the proof is in the pudding here. Rush’s numbers are up…theirs are down. So they’re using Rush, to boost their ratings. Nothing more, nothing left.

If we’re truly to believe this is about news organizations, that are blatantly left leaning, doing hard news, and wanting to report the truths, or fallacies, on both sides, to all stories….then that, in my opinion, is the truly dumb thing in all of this. Chris Matthews as much as said, their job now, was to make sure Obama succeeds.

I tend to agree with Rush. Obama is doing far more damage to this country, then AQ ever did. The economy never went down this far, after 9/11.

capejasmine on June 5, 2009 at 11:41 AM

Meanwhile, Rush is rotflhao in his G-5 all the way to the bank.

TheSitRep on June 5, 2009 at 11:58 AM

The real issue is that the Dems can’t lead their way out of a wet paper bag, despite owning Congress and the White House.

All else is distraction.

Christien on June 5, 2009 at 12:08 PM

Let’s see three mouth drooling leftists shouting down the one Republican/Conservative.
Sounds about right.

When Republicans decide to show some guts and do one of two things:

1) Boycott these shows entirely, period.

2) Send in a spokesman who will come in with fangs showing. You don’t have to yell as loud as these fools, but you better have more than, “Well, if you had a Republican spokesman, I could respond,” or “Why does MSNBC have such a fixation on Rush Limbaugh?” The guy was a sheep in the midst of wolves, and what we needed was a lion.

If you can’t find a lion who can eat these types for breakfast, then stay away.

Joe Pyne on June 5, 2009 at 12:14 PM

A.) Why he insists on gratuitously provocative comparisons like that knowing how the left will use them to make Republicans squirm is beyond me, but B.) it sure does keep his name in the news.

Thanks for solving your own canundrum, saving me the effort.

“At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume I, “Address Before the Young Men’s Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois (January 27, 1838), p. 109.

Akzed on June 5, 2009 at 12:38 PM

So Rush is basically only pointing out what Lincoln prophesied.

Akzed on June 5, 2009 at 12:39 PM

I don’t think Rush was comparing Obama to Al Qaeda, because there is no comparison.

Al Qaeda killed 3,000 people in 4 hours.

Obama will be slowing torturing several million people for the next 4 years. This is a slow and painful death of a country.

No comparison. Al Qaeda kills people, Obama kills countries.

PappaMac on June 4, 2009 at 7:59 PM

One of the major goals of Al Qaeda in the 9/11 attacks was crippling the U.S. economy by making people afraid to fly on commercial airliners. Osama bin Laden has always said that he wants to destroy our way of life, not just kill lots of us. So Rush’s statement was entirely accurate.

rockmom on June 5, 2009 at 12:46 PM

The Republican should have answered her question. Really he should. Because, once again, Rush is right. And shame on AllahP for questioning Rush’s sincerity with terms like “gratuitous.” It leads me to believe that AP doesn’t listen, because these comments aren’t in any way fleeting or rare, Rush has been consistent, consistent and passionate, this is what he believes.

And really the only Republican that squirms at these comments are the only one capable of squirming: the beta Republicans, the spineless, the RINO.

Which leads me to the leadership question. Rush, once again in his brilliance, has proven his point. There are plenty of people in the GOP who share Rush’s sentiment who are indeed leading the party. People like Mike Pence, John Kyl, Sarah Palin, and many more, WHO DON’T GET THE AIR TIME- and why?? Because RUSH DRIVES THE RATINGS.

It’s a vicious circle that MSNBC and the MSM media is driving.

…Rush making gratuitous comments. WTH Allah? Try listening.

Fish on June 5, 2009 at 1:06 PM

…and just like the majority of left wing media hacks they have to talk over and through their “adversary” even when he has answered them with one of their own non-answers. I love how pissy she gets “I want you to say Rush is irrelevant”, as if it will keep these whining Obama apologists from ever reporting on Rush again. I have long since boycotted good old Bill Gates and Microsoft just for their funding of this organization and their shills.

PatriotPete on June 5, 2009 at 1:22 PM

I am ashamed.

I really am completely and totally clueless as to who or what I’m supporting most of the time. I just buy stuff.

I had no idea that MS supported MSNBC.

Fish on June 5, 2009 at 1:35 PM

Irony is completely lost on the MSM. Of course those whose brains are not fully developed cannot detect irony.

pgrossjr on June 5, 2009 at 1:36 PM

How about the black anchorette who gets hostile when someone dares to call out Obama’s destructive policies. Unfortunately, there are SO many ways he could have crushed her, but wasn’t eqpuiped. sigh.

marklmail on June 5, 2009 at 2:04 PM

Why he insists on gratuitously provocative comparisons like that knowing how the left will use them to make Republicans squirm is beyond me, but it sure does keep his name in the news.

Please don’t be disingenuous enough to say that if he talked like a pure policy wonk and had a bland non-partisan show that the media would suddenly speak about him and the GOP as if they were just regular folks and not the racist, sexist, homophobic, radical Christians they portray them as AllahPundit. No one tells Bill Maher to STFU and not be so provocative.

Sultry Beauty on June 5, 2009 at 2:32 PM

Oh yea, and the media doesn’t take what Bill Maher says and got to Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid or President Obama if they agree with him or not. Why not? Because he’s an ENTERTAINER!
