More Liz Cheney: What’s with the moral relativism, Obama?
posted at 9:15 pm on June 4, 2009 by Allahpundit
Consider this a sequel both to the earlier clip of her, where she got sidetracked talking about The One pitching softballs to Iran, and to the Krauthammer post, where I wondered if Obama’s penchant for equivalence was more of an oratorical defect than a moral one. Does he really think the suffering of Jews and Palestinians is comparable or is that just Barry mindlessly tossing rhetorical red meat to both sides to demonstrate his, ahem, “empathy”? If the former, he’s guilty of alarming revisionism; if the latter, he’s guilty of alarming cynicism. I wonder which it is.
The best part comes around halfway through when Mitchell whitewashes the very worst part of the speech — the passage on women’s rights — by stupidly insisting, “In many ways, he did not pull his punches.” That’s LC’s cue to make an incisive point about the politics of the hijab, a subject I’ve written about many times but not recently. Cheney would have preferred that Obama stayed out of it altogether; I, on the other hand, would have preferred that he qualified his support for women’s right to choose to cover themselves by insisting that they, in fact, be free to choose. Shiite neighborhoods in Iraq saw a sharp spike in hijabs over the past few years, but it ain’t because the women there suddenly became more devout. It’s because they didn’t want to catch a beating from fundies in the Mahdi Army who insisted upon the covering. As Ayaan Hirsi Ali once said, “The veil is to show that women are responsible for the sexual self-control of men.” And yet The One endorsed it straightaway today. There’s your feminist president for you.
Stick around for all 12 minutes and you’ll see Mitchell trying to corner her with questions about Saddam and 9/11. And failing, of course.

On the one hand, the enslavement of Africans in America was unjust and destructive. On the other hand, the physical labor needs on the new continent were enormous, and the muslim slave traders performed their task with alacrity and great competence.
This moral equivalence thing is fun once you get the hang of it. Try it and see for yourself!

On the one hand, the hijab can be seen as sexist. On the other hand, a woman never has a “bad hair day.”

It’s both, but it’s not demonstrable so much of either revisionism or cynicism. On the former, it’s just that he’s too dumb to tell the difference and his researchers are lazy. On the latter, it’s… well, that he’s too dumb to tell the difference and his researchers are lazy.

Is that normal for a president to give a speech in front of another country’s flag (Egypt’s) like that?
When in Rome?
eforhan on June 4, 2009 at 9:28 PM
Poor Kenyans struggle to survive economically following the British departure, some illegally moving to Boston housing projects–it’s a fact. On the other hand, it is also undeniable that American taxpayers are getting fleeced by a relative of the President, and millions like her, and are suffering in their own homeland.

Mitchell is following helen thomas and barbara walters into their dotage. She looked skeletal and I don’t suspect she has long for this world. I’m sure it can’t be easy now that her husband has been tagged as one of the prime creators of our financial crisis, and she herself sees the liberal home she helped create be vandalized by conservative barbarians like Cheney. It was awesome, Ms. Mitchell didn’t get to have the last word which was basically be that V.P. Cheney is a liar. Liz is terrific. I like her style, right to the point, no messing around.
Libs love ‘nuance.’ I find ‘nuance’ to be annoying, and I’ve had to deal with it for many years with my lib relatives. Nuance is obfuscation in parlance. Leave that to the diplomats who like to play games.
No one ever knows what a lib means because they have no idea either.
As a Yank, I want plain speaking people who get their point across. To me, that is communication. It makes libs whine and cry, but that’s all they do anyway. They can’t deal with reality. That’s all that can be said of them. Utterly useless.

fanofamerica on June 4, 2009 at 10:36 PM
I understand exactly what your problem is, Allah (and I say this in the spirit of constructive criticism), you are still wed to the idea that the idiot messiah is, actually, an intelligent person. You somehow got it stuck in your mind that, “He went to Columbia. He went to Harvard Law. He was The Precedent of the law review. He must really be an intelligent person.” This seems to be a reasonable line of thought and can easily become lodged in someone’s mind.
So, after every moronic thing he says (and they spill out of his mouth as never before seen in a politican at this level – NEVER!) you are convinced that it must not really be evidence of a deficient mind, but some complex tactical move that forwards an equally well thought out strategy being pursued. And as he stumbles over the finish line (as he did in the primary and in the election, if you remember how he freaked out right after Palin was picked, only to be saved by the MSM viciously attacking Palin and the credit crisis, and with the Porkulus, …), you are convinced that it was all well-planned from the start and evidence of intelligence when a clear view would allow you to start to realize that he is, actually, a near-moron. He really is as stupid as the sum total of what he says would indicate. He is a buffoon.
That brings us to this point, where you try to ascribe more intellectually motivated reasons for The Precedent to even try and make such an idiotic comparison as the slaughter of six million of the most advanced people of the time with the inconvenience of a bunch of violent primitives who have been on the losing side of more than a few wars against Israel and have been forcibly kept from citizenship in arab countries (as per the arab league declaration back in 1948) to remain an eyesore for the world. How could any intelligent person try and make this case? None could. The idiot messiah is not intelligent. He’s not a guy you would ever feel comfortable having do any work for you – certainly not taking any test in your name, if you had to pick a proxy. He doesn’t think at anything near the level you are assuming for him.
The answer is; it’s neither. The Precedent hates Israel and doesn’t think that the Jews have suffered enough. He’s heard about the Holocaust, but he thinks it’s a lot of whining. I mean, his thinking (and I use the word, loosely) goes … “Look at Jews, now. What could they be complaining about?” You have to remember that all of these lunatic leftists are staticists. They can only imagine the world as they see it, today. That is the deep flaw in all of their thinking.
The Precedent thinks that Jews in Israel need to suffer, now. But, he does have the minimum number of brain cells required to understand that he can’t say that – not yet, at least.
Allah, once you realize how impenetrably stupid The Precedent is, you will find that his words and actions start to make a lot of sense. They are neither intricate, nor insightful, but arise out of straight-forward stupidity, a static view of the world, and a thirst for revenge against the successful.

fanofamerica on June 4, 2009 at 11:21 PM
That’s an intersting point. The more aggressive Rush and the Cheney’s are with truth, the more they stand their ground and don’t capitulate, the more air time they get on the liberal news.
Hey DC Republicans…. ARE YOU LISTENING?????
katy on June 4, 2009 at 11:27 PM
Liz Cheney is absolutely fantastic. Stupendous. It’s hard to overstate how awesome she was in this interview. She actually made this a great interview, no matter how much Andrea Mitchell tried to turn it into a food fight. I was watching it, wondering why more people don’t watch this show … until Mitchell would open her mouth again.
And I really loved the switching back and forth between The Precedent and Liz Cheney, in the beginning. Liz would make a well-reasoned argument, hitting all of the important points in a direct manner and then The Precedent would be on the dais, babbling on about something stupid or sneering at America (everytime that moron says, “our”, or “us”, it makes me puke). The stark difference in the quality of the two, from the truly intelligent adult in the studio to the impetuous, self-absorbed child making a fool of himself on the world stage, was beautiful. I could not find a single word of Liz Cheney’s that I disagree with (save the ‘recount’). It was a beautiful performance.
And when she topped it off by beating Mitchell senseless when the ol’ bitty tried to throw the lefty strawman that anyone said that Saddam was involved in 9/11, Liz wasn’t having any of it. First she beats Mitchell bad enough that she has to admit to having to do some homework before the next interview and then, as Mitchell is trying to take a swipe in passing to try and save some of her sense of self, Cheney just knocks her into next week.
Liz doesn’t suffer fools gladly.
That was just awesome.

We need a photoshop of Lynne Cheney…in the all black Darth Vader outfit.
Seriously, I like Palin, but Lynne Cheney, with an assist from her dad, is gradually becoming Obama’s worst nightmare. I’ve seen the Morning Joe crew interview her a couple times, and they can’t lay a glove on her. Mika can’t deny that she’s capable and sharp, while Scarborough just sits back and snickers as other liberal guests try to top Cheney–but fail.
She’s great because she’s doesn’t allow anything to go unsaid. If she doesn’t like a point that’s been made, she insists on circling back and straightening it out.

Andrea Mitchell is just disgusting. I remember watching her after Palin’s first national speech; she actually cringed when she asked a Palin supporter why they liked her.
Liz Cheney is powerfully good because she absolutely knows: 1) her stuff; 2) that she is right: and 3) that everyone on the who debates her is just making up crap as they go along.
I don’t think its that hard. I wish every republican politician would follow her lead.

room9reg on June 5, 2009 at 2:11 AM
It was nice to see Liz Cheney be able to answer the questions without much quibbling. I wish this was always the case. However, Mitchell mentioned “next time” meaning, when “I can find that “gotcha” and prove you wrong and the panel of “experts” that will back me up and shout you down when you try to make sense.”
Pomme143 on June 5, 2009 at 2:17 AM
If that’s what she wants, I’d certainly vote for her, if possible.
But I think she’d be better as Secretary of State, or Defense, or Homeland Security, etc. in the next Republican administration. She just comes across as a very effective executive, and would be an excellent defender of presidential policy.
Any Republican who becomes President will have to pick very good people to overcome the media bias.
I especially loved the part where Andrea Mitchell is just sure that Liz Cheney is wrong, and “Bush Lied!”, but can’t defend it in any way. She has to say, “Let me research that for next time.” What are the odds she’ll face Liz Cheney again without lots of help?
ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on June 5, 2009 at 2:46 AM
It is rare to find a person today with such strength, dignity and grace. She has such a command of the facts, articulates them well, with a smile and gentle passion.
All as she ever so graciously disembowels her opponents with their own knives. Once finished, she then smiles and hands the blade back to her discombobulated adversary after first wiping the blade clean with their own shirt.
JellyToast on June 5, 2009 at 7:15 AM
In regards to Ms. Cheney, I am thoroughly impressed with her on every level.
