More Liz Cheney: What’s with the moral relativism, Obama?

Consider this a sequel both to the earlier clip of her, where she got sidetracked talking about The One pitching softballs to Iran, and to the Krauthammer post, where I wondered if Obama’s penchant for equivalence was more of an oratorical defect than a moral one. Does he really think the suffering of Jews and Palestinians is comparable or is that just Barry mindlessly tossing rhetorical red meat to both sides to demonstrate his, ahem, “empathy”? If the former, he’s guilty of alarming revisionism; if the latter, he’s guilty of alarming cynicism. I wonder which it is.
The best part comes around halfway through when Mitchell whitewashes the very worst part of the speech — the passage on women’s rights — by stupidly insisting, “In many ways, he did not pull his punches.” That’s LC’s cue to make an incisive point about the politics of the hijab, a subject I’ve written about many times but not recently. Cheney would have preferred that Obama stayed out of it altogether; I, on the other hand, would have preferred that he qualified his support for women’s right to choose to cover themselves by insisting that they, in fact, be free to choose. Shiite neighborhoods in Iraq saw a sharp spike in hijabs over the past few years, but it ain’t because the women there suddenly became more devout. It’s because they didn’t want to catch a beating from fundies in the Mahdi Army who insisted upon the covering. As Ayaan Hirsi Ali once said, “The veil is to show that women are responsible for the sexual self-control of men.” And yet The One endorsed it straightaway today. There’s your feminist president for you.
Stick around for all 12 minutes and you’ll see Mitchell trying to corner her with questions about Saddam and 9/11. And failing, of course.

The gap of intellect between Liz Cheney and Andrea Mitchell is vast. Like the distant between us and say….the Andromeda galaxy.
rollthedice on June 5, 2009 at 9:00 AM
Nice job, Liz…as usual.
bluelightbrigade on June 5, 2009 at 9:29 AM
what about a Sarah Palin/Liz Cheney ticket?
that would really drive the feminist nuts
jp on June 5, 2009 at 9:38 AM
Hmmmm. So far Liz is undefeated. Of course spanking a shallow journalist amounts to a light workout for her.
perroviejo on June 5, 2009 at 9:39 AM
how in the world has she had time to have 5 kids at 42, with her career? she must not sleep?
jp on June 5, 2009 at 9:51 AM
After watching this, it’s absolutely solidified in my mind:
Abby Adams on June 5, 2009 at 9:55 AM
I like how, after failing to trap Cheney, Mitchell basically abandons her journalist cap and goes into full blown partisan mode. It’s like her default position when things don’t go the way she’s hoping.
Almost as good as her saying ‘I’m going to have do go do some homework and respond to those fantastic points you just made.’
BadgerHawk on June 5, 2009 at 9:56 AM
I have to agree. I really like Palin and hope she’s on the national stage for many years. But Cheney is just a machine. So calm, so logical, so factual and so unwilling to let the ridiculous assumptions of a ridiculous question go unchallenged.
She’s like a liberal terminator.
BadgerHawk on June 5, 2009 at 9:59 AM
MSM should listen more and speak less until they have fully digested and understand what is happening in the world.
Example: Headlines found in same paper: Ms. ‘X’ found dead-Husband blamed. Mr. ‘X’ accepts Humanity Award in Europe.
One reporter does not like Mr.’X’ and second reporter likes Mr. ‘X’, but neither find out that Ms. ‘X’ was despondent about her break-up with Mr. ‘Z’, and Mr. ‘Z’ called police to say Mr. ‘X’ killed Ms. ‘X’.
Do your homework before putting pen to paper. Do just like Ms. Mitchell said “I’ll have to do my homework now”. Why don’t they do their homework before the test.

“Does he really think the suffering of Jews and Palestinians is comparable ”
Well, every influencer in his life has been a virulent anti-semite. That might provide a clue.
notagool on June 5, 2009 at 10:19 AM
Andrea Mitchell wonders why Bush won’t attack Obama but Cheney will? How about Gore or Jimmy Carter attacking Bush?
It was wonderful watching Liz Cheney school Andrea Mitchell. The comment by Mitchell towards the end is pure gold: “I’ll have to do my homework and we can talk again…”.
gwelf on June 5, 2009 at 10:45 AM
She is friggin brilliant: namely the end game gotcha question concerning 9/11 and Saddam that AP points out- Cheney debunks the tired lie that has been used for over 8 years now – yet Mitchell – admits she “needs to do her homework” – then goes on to perpetuate the lie, based on her own words – without knowing or doing her homework.
And I can’t help but notice – Cheney’s mannerisms are very similiar to her fathers – deliberate, calm, intelligent – which for a male can come off as… well we know what the left thinks of Dick Cheney – but for Liz – it comes off much calmer and of serious, deep thought. Just a little gender difference can go along way.
Odie1941 on June 5, 2009 at 10:58 AM
Liz Cheney is a masterful interviewee. We NEED more articles about HER and less about Meaghan McCain.
originalpechanga on June 5, 2009 at 11:06 AM
Liz Cheney 2012 please!!!
jlemieu1 on June 5, 2009 at 11:17 AM
I’m really becoming a fan of Liz Cheney. She’s not abrasive, but she doesn’t let stupid things slide either.
Esthier on June 5, 2009 at 11:26 AM
Losing the avocado-y lime green dress would be nice. I mean, it’s soooo 1970s, and not in a good way.
starfleet_dude on June 5, 2009 at 11:32 AM
Andrea Mitchell. She really thinks she is an impartial journalist as she defends tooth and nail Obama’s positions in his speech.
JellyToast on June 5, 2009 at 11:32 AM
Get this woman on the GOP Ticket!!!!
NOW!!!!!
All that knowledge…without a Teleprompter.
PappaMac on June 5, 2009 at 11:36 AM
Your SUCH a deep thinker. I’m in Ah of your intellect.
PappaMac on June 5, 2009 at 11:38 AM
Oh, and for the record:
Which makes this no longer operative:
Thanks for lying to we, the American people, Dick.
starfleet_dude on June 5, 2009 at 11:38 AM
It’s spelled “awe”, not “Ah”. Which if you’re trying to make a point about intellect would be appropriate.
starfleet_dude on June 5, 2009 at 11:41 AM
Ah, see what I mean. Your soooo deep.
PappaMac on June 5, 2009 at 11:44 AM
I thought you were a dude?
Esthier on June 5, 2009 at 11:49 AM
I would think that a conservative women with life experience would make a better decision that a liberal one.
tomas on June 5, 2009 at 12:10 PM
Even dudes are allowed to have a fashion sense.
Deciding to wear a green dress at all doesn’t speak well of Liz Cheney’s decision-making ability. She’d probably choose wear a red dress to see the Pope.
starfleet_dude on June 5, 2009 at 12:28 PM
It’s also “you’re” instead of “your” but why bother with correcting grammar online? He wasn’t calling you stupid, just arrogant.
That’s not a lie. There was a relationship with them. That was Liz’s point. That doesn’t mean they planned 9/11 together. That’s a separate argument used to undermine Cheney.
Esthier on June 5, 2009 at 12:29 PM
Not one that specific.
I can only hope you’re joking, as I don’t know you well enough either way.
Esthier on June 5, 2009 at 12:30 PM
As long as she doesn’t wear a pant suit she will be fine.
tomas on June 5, 2009 at 12:35 PM
I have to admire Liz Cheney. She’s definitely emerging as a badly needed Pub pit-bull.
Liz’s carrying water for our thumb sucking PC elected politicians that are being paid for being silent (sarcasm). I hope she runs for congress.
byteshredder on June 5, 2009 at 1:22 PM
Did you watch the entire clip? Her whole point is that her father argued, correctly, that AQ had ties to Iraq, not that Iraq had a hand in 9/11. Mitchell asked a question basically saying that Cheney had claimed Iraq helped plan 9/11, and Cheney called her on it.
There was no lie.
BadgerHawk on June 5, 2009 at 1:26 PM
Typical liberal stupidity.MSNBC has to be run by idiots to keeep putting Liz on.Their combined intelligence doesn’t add up to Liz”s shoe size.Liz must really be enjoying playing Wac-A-Mole—-she is so good at it.Hit’em again,Liz.
DDT on June 5, 2009 at 1:55 PM
Why not? This isn’t high school, at least, I hope it isn’t.
starfleet_dude on June 5, 2009 at 2:33 PM
The claim about al-Qaeda having a “relationship” with Iraq was deliberately overblown and based on nothing but tenuous and flimsy evidence, if you can even dignify it that much. Cheney, Rice and others hyped it so much to better manipulate Americans by conflating 9/11 with Saddam Hussein. The truth was that Saddam Hussein and Iraq weren’t anything even remotely close to a threat to the U.S. physically. What Cheney was most concerned about was the geo-politics of the oil involved, as usual.
starfleet_dude on June 5, 2009 at 2:36 PM
Yeah, look how cheap oil has gotten since we invaded.
BadgerHawk on June 5, 2009 at 3:12 PM
That has more to do with China and India’s economic rise than anything else. We’ve pretty much found the oil that’s cheapest to get already, and if we want more as a planet it’s going to cost more to get out of the ground. Thoughts about somehow keeping the oil in the Middle East for ourselves forget that the Chinese can simply buy it elsewhere and thus drive the global price up anyway.
starfleet_dude on June 5, 2009 at 3:22 PM
Aren’t the chinese drilling a few miles off of our coast – getting the oil bhusseinobama stopped us from drilling for?
And starfleet – I hope you comment on michelle’s sleeveless, ugly clothes that she wears.
Liz is lovely and he clothes fit her and look great.
Bambi on June 5, 2009 at 3:48 PM
Michelle Obama may be no Grace Jones in the sleeveless department, but she’s still got plenty of style.
starfleet_dude on June 5, 2009 at 4:11 PM
So you have debuked your own “evil Cheney oil link” with your own comments… brilliant.
The fashion stuff – that’s rich.
In the event you ever meet a woman – keep that shit to yourself… but we know thats not how you roll. I am fascinated by gay mens love for female clothing. You can’t wear it, nor can you get “excited” by it. What’s the point? And when is the last time a women got dressed up to impress the gay man audience?
Odie1941 on June 5, 2009 at 4:48 PM
It WAS overblown….by your side. Not having much of a legitimate argument(as usual), liberals had to resort to making one up(as usual).
Another lib talking out of his ass….as usual.
xblade on June 5, 2009 at 6:32 PM
Exactly. Starfleet_dude needs some Retin-A.
ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on June 5, 2009 at 6:56 PM
And here I thought it had something to do with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi being sheltered in Iraq prior to the Iraq War.
Even that ignores Saddam’s broader support for terrorism, in the form of thousands of dollars given to the families of suicide bombers.
The problem with people like you is that you can’t admit when someone has a good point, and you try to give yourself the moral high ground by falsely accusing your opponents of lying.
It won’t fly outside of the echo chamber, AKA the media. It’s certainly possible to argue that Iraq was a wrong decision on multiple grounds, but you won’t settle for that. You have to lie and smear the name of good men who tried to keep the people of this country safe.
You’re the children of Joseph Wilson, who falsely claimed:
a) that Wilson was sent by Dick Cheney to investigate the claim
b) that Wilson found the claim was false
c) that Cheney of course saw Wilson’s report priving it was false
d) that Bush therefore lied about Iraq seeking uranium from Nigeria in a State of the Union address
e) that Cheney outed his wife as a covert CIA operative as revenge
Every bit of the above was false, but the dishonest media claims it as true to this day.
The real truth is that Bush and Cheney alike were truthful the entire time, and they have a bunch of lowlife dishonest reprobates out to dishonor their reputations with these false accusations. And here you are, joining that infamous crowd.
While we’re talking about truth that can’t seem to get through the media filter, Saddam had WMD’s. We haven’t been able to find the stockpiles, but we’ve found lots of traces left behind, and he actually used chemical weapons against Iran and against the Kurds. The only real question left is, did he hide them very well, or move them out of the country. The notion that he never had them is the one explanation we can definitely rule out. The notion that he destroyed them without telling anybody, when it almost certainly would have kept him from being invaded, is nearly as preposterous.
ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on June 5, 2009 at 7:16 PM
Yeah, Andrea, you go do your homework.
If you haven’t done it by now, then you should be FIRED.
I’m convinced you know damn well what the facts are. You are deliberately using the perceptions of the ill-informed to perpetuate the fog of misconceptions that the Left has used to attack the prior administration. WHICH MEANS YOU SHOULD BE FIRED.
If you owe the American people anything for your income as a reporter, it is integrity.
You’re a complete moral failure.
