Arkansas shooter had more targets in mind

Thus far, the murder of a soldier in Arkansas has not generated much interest outside of the conservative blogosphere, certainly nothing like the coverage of the murder of George Tiller by an anti-abortion extremist in Kansas.  Initial reports on the suspect, Abdulhakim Muhammad, made his motivation seem murky.  ABC News and other later reports make it clear that Muhammad, born Carlos Bledsoe, had intended to go on a hate-inspired murder spree that only quick action by local law enforcement stopped:

The Arkansas man accused of killing an Army recruiter and wounding another had used the popular Google Maps application to investigate recruiting centers in at least five states, as well as Jewish institutions, a day-care center, a post office and a Baptist Church, according to a report issued Tuesday evening by the Department of Homeland Security, ABC News has learned.

Recruiting centers in New York, Atlanta, Louisville and Philadelphia were on a list of possible targets, based on evidence found in the home of the suspect, Muslim-convert Abdulhakim Muhammed, according to the report.

The report was prepared based on the evidence seized in a search of Muhammed’s home that included information indicating that he had used Google maps to investigate various locations.

Secure Community Network, a not-for-profit group that addresses security concerns among some of the national Jewish leadership, and is widely considered to be a reliable source on potential threats to that community, expanded on the government report to conclude that, “Muhammad may have considered and conducted research on other targets in addition to the military recruiting center in Little Rock, including military sites, government facilities, as well as Jewish institutions in several cities throughout the United States.

“Law enforcement officials have reported that Muhammad may have researched Jewish entities in Little Rock, Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York, Louisville and Memphis. It is unknown at this time if other locations were considered,” according to SCN, which is a Jewish Federations of North America initiative.

Apparently, the recent convert to Islam came back from his instruction in Yemen with a mission.  Muhammad returned to the US after traveling on forged papers, which should have triggered prosecution on his return — or at least a lot more interest.  The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force has its plate full, to be sure, with thousands of leads and potential suspects.  The faked Somali passport and the stop in a terrorist hotbed like Yemen looks like a big red flag, admittedly in retrospect, although I wonder how many other Americans have traveled to Yemen under those same circumstances.

Clearly, though, the impetus was not just an anti-military sentiment alone.  Muhammad’s choice of targets shows an animus towards America and the values we hold dear.  He wanted to go after places of worship, primarily but not exclusively Jewish.  The day-care center seems particularly despicable.  Not only did he not care whether children would get killed, he at least considered deliberately targeting them.

If anything points out the implacable and evil nature of the terrorists aligned against us, Muhammad and his mission from Yemen should make that clear.

MarkTheGreat, I think we’re living in a time when everybody who hates life and freedom gangs up together against those of us who love life and freedom. A lot of strange bedfellows, but what they have in common is a hatred for the Judeo-Christian view that life is sacred, families are the basic unit of society, and freedom is God-given and to be protected by governments executing justice.

He wasn’t on the homeland security terrorist watch list? So he isn’t a American Military Vet…Sarc.

And sales of AR15s, ammo reloading systems and supplies. (Primers, powder, brass and ball ammo)

hawkdriver on June 4, 2009 at 12:53 PM

I know of some people who have been on the waiting list for uppers and lowers for over four months.

Signs have finally shown up in even this remote area limiting the amount of ammo one can purchase per day because of limited supplies.

I ordered some .40 S&W two months ago. Still waiting. The few boxes on the shelves around here must be gold plated, judging by the price.

My tried and true, garden-variety, ubiquitious in this deer country, 30-30 has doubled in price.

I’m sure none of this has anything to do with citizen’s concerns regarding an uncertain future.

It’s the Apache guys getting it. They’re the WolfPack. Their SP, Rooster, guarantees me his guys will make some contact for him.

TF Saber is as we speak taking care of Rachmed the Rocket Guy and his buddies not ten miles from here. Saber didn’t get the word about Long but the western night sky is still bright with illum rounds and you can hear the 2.75 rockets from their Kiowa’s exploding in the distance.

You should be here to see it. It’s a beautiful thing.

No one said it was, baldilocks. Since you didn’t get it…

Yes some definitely did say it was a racial thing in the first thread about this terror attack before I looked up the injured soldier’s last name and discovered that it was Nigerian in origin. Looking at the face of this Islamist shouldn’t affect you memories of your friends one way or the other. I don’t look at David Duke and see an opposite mirror of my military friends who happen to be white (most of them actually).

My attitudes about this got tested many years ago when a big fat a-hole who happen to be white called me a n****r b*tch–while I was wearing Uncle Sam’s uniform. I came to the fork where I could hate all whites or view each person as an individual. I chose the latter. Good luck getting there. I mean that.

Yea, along with Malcolm X, Louis Farrakhan and several other Muslim inhabitants of the U.S. penal system. They have all made a contribution (not necessarily a positive one, but a contribution all the less).

As a terrorist – he can get the death penalty correct? Technically he attacked a Federal installation and killed and wounded federal employees.

I believe we have him on the same charge that we got Timothy McViegh … correct?

If so – will Eric Holder prosecute it as such or will he allow this black man to escape justice as he did the Black Panthers who were intimidating voters?

Equal protection – awesome to live in a country where it only applies to the race that occupies the White House.

This country has…overcome that before because of the foundation on which it was built.

Yeah. Nonsense like this will really help your cause.

- Because Buddhists like me dont appreciate life as sacred
- Because Buddhists dont have families
- Because Buddhists seem to believe dictatorships are kewl

Think before you post.

Be sure not to say this guy looks like a thug though. That’s racist.

( Personally, I’ve run into a lot of thugs, and not every one of them were black).

Try not to be so sensitive.

loudmouth883 on June 4, 2009 at 2:57 PM

So wouldn’t this be considered the first terrorist attack of Barak Obama’s presidentcy?

liquidflorian on June 4, 2009 at 3:31 PM

Shambhala, I never said any of those things about Buddhists. Buddhists don’t hate the Judeo-Christian worldview so I was never even talking about them. Just like I wasn’t talking about atheists like AP who still hold to the Judeo-Christian principles this nation was founded on.

What I’m saying is that the atheists who DO hate the Judeo-Christian worldview are joining with Islamists who hate the Judeo-Christian worldview, even though they have nothing else in common. It’s like those particular beliefs are a lightning rod drawing the smoke and fury of everybody else.

If you’re objecting to me calling those beliefs Judeo-Christian rather than something more universal, I don’t know what else to call them. What would you call them?

justincase on June 4, 2009 at 3:41 PM

If anything points out the implacable and evil nature of the terrorists *ISLAM* aligned against us, Muhammad and his mission from Yemen *MECCA* should make that clear.

Candidate for an Obama pardon.

I don’t think the people of Yemen are getting their money’s worth and their goals are self-defeating. Even if every black man shoots two Infidels, that is only (assuming 5% of the population is black males able to lift a rifle) 16,500,000 Infidels.

It don’t work.
