Harris poll: Obama Cabinet a collection of mediocrities
posted at 8:46 am on June 3, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Consider this a follow-up to Harry Reid’s reassurance that Barack Obama would pick judges just as well as he picks his Cabinet. So far, the public has no great confidence in the team Obama picked, according to the most recent Harris poll. While his personal popularity remains high, voters consider his team a collection of mediocrities:
It is evident that the popularity of this administration is strongly dependent on the president’s positive ratings. None of his colleagues do much to help him politically. Some commentators have written about the supposed strength of his team and his cabinet members. The public does not share this enthusiasm. And Nancy Pelosi is a political liability. …
One striking finding is how few people are familiar with key players in Washington. Less than half of adults are familiar enough with Defense Secretary Robert Gates (43%), Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner (41%), and Federal Chairman Ben Bernanke (43%) to have any opinions of them. Only Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (83%), Vice President Joe Biden (69%), and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (66%) of those listed are known to most people. In so far as any of the leaders measured are popular, Hillary Clinton and Bob Gates have more positive than negative ratings.
In fact, the poll suggests that Joe Biden has gone backwards since his election on familiarity. In March, 70% of the American public knew him well enough to have an opinion. A month later, that number dropped to 67% despite (or perhaps due to) being Obama’s VP. That rebounded back to 69% in May, but that may have been the result of Biden’s hysterics on the swine flu and public transportation — which also may have contributed to his -4 favorability.
The only member of the Cabinet to get clearly favorable marks from the public was the man Obama didn’t originally appoint himself, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. The rest? Hillary does pretty well with a +14 favorability, but after that it gets ugly. Geithner gets a -10, Fed chair Ben Bernanke a -7, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi a -24, the worst individual rating in the poll. She does much worse than her caucus does as a whole, with Congressional Democrats at -14 favorability.
Of course, the Republicans on Capitol Hill shouldn’t crow too much about that. They have the worst score in the poll, with a -31 favorability rating.
Andrew Malcolm notes, tongue firmly in cheek:
Other than that, it’s seen as a very strong Obama administration team.
Does Reid still want to use this Cabinet to reassure us of Obama’s executive abilities in picking staff?

This has been so obvious that the compelling reason had to be enhancing The One’s position by surrounding him with the most incompetent people he could find. Our country’s best interest is usurped by the personal ambition for total control that is refected in his every action. The first king of the United States is beginning his reign.

Someday in the future, when it will be possible to produce an objective history of the US, the Obama presidency will be rightly seen as the pivotal moment when our decline could readily be seen and felt. While its been some time in the making, and Obama isn’t solely responsible, the 1/2 black pharaoh will be known as Obama the Destroyer.
The cabinet doesn’t have to be competent in performing its traditional functions, as the gov’t is intent on performing new and different functions.

The Precedent’s cabinet would have to improve 1000% to rise to the level of mediocrity. They are one of the biggest collections of lunatics, morons, misfits, and criminals this country has ever seen operating the levers of power. In that way, they reflect THe Precedent, himself.
What a total embarrassment. But they will all look smashing in their orange jumpsuits, when this country finally gets itself straightened out.

That gives me a business idea. What if we got together a bunch of people who would go to Washington and investigate what’s going on, ask a lot of questions, poke their noses into things, and then write down what they found out? That way, the people could stay home and work, yet still be informed, and the pols would know that somebody is looking over their shoulders. Actually, seems like this might be a necessary idea to prevent gov’t tyranny.

NR doesn’t get out much… I am in the middle of Obama worship where I am… NR is off their collective chum if they believe Obamabots follow things that closely and/or care. These are people that BELIEVE that America is the cause of the world’s “unfortunate” reaction to American “arrogance.”
Time have changed, NR, the Obama voters are a combination of Union thugs, those wanting “free” government services, America-haters, Socialists, Utopianists and those with liberal social agendas… they couldn’t care less what Obama tells audiences in Turkey or Egypt (and those that might, agree with his anti-American assessment).
In a different day, this communist would never have been elected… and if that did happen, his numbers would be hovering around 28% at this point… but, alas, the worship continues essentially unabated.

But this motley crue of cabinet members is prepared….to destroy the country from within. Napolitano is no rookie. She is a seasoned politician and that DHS “right wing terrorists under every rock” report was no mistake. Geithner is no fool either. He knows what he is doing by taking over the financial system. I saw a Ras poll that 58% of Americans think the stimulus either failed or made the economy worse. They wanted tax cuts over spending but got the reverse. They hate deficits and are about to get the several fold worse than Bush.
They are against closing Guantanamo, for tough interrogation and resoundingly against bringing detainees to the US.
And now the best pick Obama made was the Republican in charge of a war Obamas against, but has given up ending.
But they still give him 60% approval rating. This must be the same dynamic that keeps Ryan Seacrest employed.

If you all have not seen the NBC “Inside in the White House” special, I suggest you watch it. It was very interesting. Well, at least the part that shows his staff.
They all looked like incompetent morons. Rahm could not answer the most simple softballs thrown at him by Williams. They were there the day after Sotomayer was picked, and they were all in a panic over critism of her on cable tv (which they all say they dont watch, but they all actually have these special tvs that show four stations at a time, all tuned to cable news on their desks, font and center…they were watching it constantly). They were all having politcal strategy meetings worrying about politics and that was all they were concerned about all day. Geitner got snubbed several times throughout the day because nobody had time to meet with him because they were all panicing about what was on cable news about Sotomayor. It was pathetic. Geitner gave a priceless scornful look to Obama when he came in to a room to take burger orders (distraction trip). I think he was pissed he was being ignored.
That part of the special was not flattering at all to the Obama admin. They looked like a bunch of amatuer politcal hacks. Completely unconcerned about actual issues and only worrying about politics. It made me furious.

But you won’t see this reported in the MSM because they are bought and paid for (GE) No friend of the United States of America.
Obama announced the appointment of GE CEO Jeffery Immelt to head his economic advisory team. So lets look at Mr. Immelt:
* Took over as CEO of GE 9/7/2001.
* Outgoing GE CEO Jack Welch, widely respected throughout the business and political world, states that Immelt has serious credibility issues.
* GE stock lost 63% of its value since Immelt took over at GE.
* On 8/29/2004 CBS’s 60 Minute revealed that GE is, and has been, doing business with Iran; the same Iran that is sending bombs, soldiers, money, and trainers into Iraq to kill American soldiers. Immelt when asked about it made no apologies and stated they would continue to business with Iran.
* GE is the parent company of NBC, CNBC, and MSNBC.
* GE Capital recently received $139 billion of government money.
Couple questions come to mind:
* Do we want a business man who is running his company into the ground to be advising our government?
* Can the media be impartial and objective if they are working for the government?
* Will Immelt and all other GE related company personnel be held to the $500k salary cap that Obama recently imposed?
* What is the real agenda here?

By the way, the “Negative” rating includes “Only Fair” describing their performance (“Excellent” and “Pretty Good” are considered positive, and “Poor” is also considered negative, obviously). Kind of strange. If you exclude “Only Fair” or add it to the “Positive” rating everything suddenly becomes very different. I wonder why they did it that way. Maybe it’s the way they asked the question, but nothing in the question seems hidden or ambiguous.

The masses are asses.
It is why people buy a pill to “get skinny”, while never changing their life habits, then sue pill makers for “flase promises” Its why people run up a credit card to $25,000 for useless items to be “cool”, yet have no idea how to pay it back, then sue for “unreasonable late fees” It’s why Paris HIlton makes $5M a year. It’s why Colbert is loved.
Apathy in America can be traced to many progressive sources, running rough shot over the country – while not only dumbing down the masses, but filling them with useless accolades of “hope, change, promise, etc.” Which has led to the worst malady of a society: lack of integrity.
People no longer look at themselves in the mirror each day. They don’t have to. Instead, they stare into a fixed self portrait that is beautifully crafted, never needs upkeep and never looks back…
