Class!

faol on June 2, 2009 at 9:59 PM

This is the way American should be…unfortunately, this is the exception, not the rule. Thanks Obama.

AUINSC on June 2, 2009 at 9:59 PM

I hear he spends his vacations RV’ing. That fact suddenly made RV’ing cool to me!

Read his memoir if you haven’t already. What class.

fivefeetoffury on June 2, 2009 at 10:00 PM

When they get out of college my guess is they’ll have a different view of Justice Thomas.

Progressive education, don’tcha know.

Sorry, it’s a nice story anyway.

SteveMG on June 2, 2009 at 10:00 PM

Love it.

nickj116 on June 2, 2009 at 10:00 PM

too cool..

DaveC on June 2, 2009 at 10:00 PM

Thomas is a great man and great justice. Screw the vicious left.

RobCon on June 2, 2009 at 10:01 PM

Nice…thanks for that.

Asher on June 2, 2009 at 10:01 PM

A great black man who will never get his due respect.

conservnut on June 2, 2009 at 10:01 PM

So he didn’t get shouted down? The ‘Huskers are all right in my book.

jgapinoy on June 2, 2009 at 10:02 PM

Everything about that guy is awesome.

Clark1 on June 2, 2009 at 10:02 PM

Changing minds one man at a time.

faol on June 2, 2009 at 10:02 PM

Justice Thomas is one of my heroes. He has more character than most 100 men.

wildcat84 on June 2, 2009 at 10:03 PM

I’ve always thought that Justice Thomas was a class act.
Did you know that Justice and Mrs. Thomas are raising his great nephew.
What good people they are.

annoyinglittletwerp on June 2, 2009 at 10:03 PM

That’s how people treat people when they’re not tainted by the BS that gets spewed. They met a cool guy, they didnt know him, they liked him. Good story.

Dash on June 2, 2009 at 10:04 PM

OMG, he’s not a monster?

Justice Thomas deserves a LOT more respect than he’ll ever get.

artist on June 2, 2009 at 10:04 PM

Sell outs!

/

SouthernGent on June 2, 2009 at 10:04 PM

When they get out of college my guess is they’ll have a different view of Justice Thomas.

SteveMG on June 2, 2009 at 10:00 PM

Perhaps if that day had not happened. God moves in mysterious ways.

baldilocks on June 2, 2009 at 10:04 PM

Did you know that Justice and Mrs. Thomas are raising his great nephew.

annoyinglittletwerp on June 2, 2009 at 10:03 PM

What is the story behind that?

artist on June 2, 2009 at 10:05 PM

Classy Man, Good Kids, Great Story

BuckNutty on June 2, 2009 at 10:05 PM

Justice Thomas: “Thanks your crappy public education system, these two fools didn’t know who the hell I was!” / joking

Caper29 on June 2, 2009 at 10:06 PM

BTW, Justice Thomas’s voice is way better than that of the Crooked One–mostly because the former sounds like he’s not trying to hide something.

baldilocks on June 2, 2009 at 10:07 PM

8 years ago my family accidently pulled into his driveway. His wife was outside with the dog when we piled out of the car waving and offering our pie. She was very gracious in her suprise since we were at the wrong house. Both are a class act.

faol on June 2, 2009 at 10:07 PM

That man has more heart and more class than all of us on this forum. That’s sayin’ something(good about us and him)

thebrokenrattle on June 2, 2009 at 10:08 PM

Sarah Palin was too big an idiot to be Vice President.
Joe Biden is the man we need to be Vice President.

Clarence Thomas is an idiot who doesn’t belong on the Supreme Court.
Sotomayor is an ideal candidate to be on the Supreme Court.

Don’t mind me — I’m just trying to keep the world straight in my head.

Kensington on June 2, 2009 at 10:08 PM

Bet they know who Sharpton and Jackson are.

faol on June 2, 2009 at 10:08 PM

Awesome! This pretty much made my day.

Grafted on June 2, 2009 at 10:08 PM

That story made my day.

sinsing on June 2, 2009 at 10:08 PM

At least these two young men DID get an education before they graduated!

singlemalt_18 on June 2, 2009 at 10:09 PM

Justice Thomas is a wonderful role model for young men of any color. His autobiography was incredible. His life story is a true American Dream.

Redneck Woman on June 2, 2009 at 10:09 PM

He has always been a fine man. With all the attacks, he has prevailed. I’m going out to get his book. I’m motivated to learn more about him.

pjean on June 2, 2009 at 10:11 PM

I have met Justice Thomas twice at Nebraska recruiting dinners. The man has the most robust clapping I have ever seen. I’ll admit to being star struck each time.

gmbdds on June 2, 2009 at 10:12 PM

Justice Thomas has always set a good example for others, and always treated people the same, regardless of their social or political status.

And, given these times, and the extravagance of Obama and members of Congress on taxpayer money, please note that Justice Thomas is setting another good example. He flies coach.

Loxodonta on June 2, 2009 at 10:13 PM

Awesome! Great to see kids who survived high school without being brainwashed by the NEA. Very encouraging, too, to hear them talk with such respect & politeness.

KS Rex on June 2, 2009 at 10:14 PM

Class act. Can you imagine a Supreme Court justice as a high school commencement speaker?

Brilliant legal mind and regular guy.

Again, class act.

cs89 on June 2, 2009 at 10:15 PM

Now that is a man to Idol!!!!!

alexraye on June 2, 2009 at 10:16 PM

I love me some CT. Nice story, better man.

Spirit of 1776 on June 2, 2009 at 10:17 PM

Keeper!

Nice story.

Dubn8tr on June 2, 2009 at 10:18 PM

Talk about real, and a warm and kind human being, and
a role model.

Just goes to show you,how poisoned Liberals are
towards,SCJ Clarence Thomas!!

canopfor on June 2, 2009 at 10:18 PM

God Bless Justice Thomas.

daesleeper on June 2, 2009 at 10:22 PM

Bet they know who Sharpton and Jackson are.

faol on June 2, 2009 at 10:08 PM

You do too.

baldilocks on June 2, 2009 at 10:22 PM

Cheers for a great American!

And congrats to two guys who recognized a good guy when they met him.

INC on June 2, 2009 at 10:22 PM

I saw on CSPAN a few years ago a DC party that was thrown in Clarence Thomas’s honor. He was so cool & humane. Humble. And yes, quite articulate. It was amazing to see the man.

Coronagold on June 2, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Didn’t think it was possible, but, Thomas was just elevated higher in my level of respect and admiration.

sybilll on June 2, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Clarence Thomas is a man that all American children should aspire to be like. The left knows it and thats why they fear him.

peacenprosperity on June 2, 2009 at 10:23 PM

I do feel good, thanks, AP!

Bob's Kid on June 2, 2009 at 10:26 PM

That is pretty gosh darn cool. That would be beyond awesome. The man-hug at the end made me smile.

mjk on June 2, 2009 at 10:27 PM

I was the Supreme Court gallery to listen to a case once. Thomas was the first person I locked on to. I spent the whole hour mesmerized by him and Scalia. Love this guy.

mountaineer for liberty on June 2, 2009 at 10:29 PM

Did that reporter say man-hug?

Gunhaver on June 2, 2009 at 10:31 PM

Whatever, ultimately, may be Thomas’s politics, could someone please lock him in a room with Colin Powell for an hour?

Then, and only then, I’d be content to endure anything more Powell gets on TV to say.

BuckeyeSam on June 2, 2009 at 10:33 PM

Justice Thomas’s ‘compelling story’ just doesn’t seem to carry the weight a proper liberal’s does. He’s maintained the grounding of his background and I really think he personally enjoys the anonymity.

michaelo on June 2, 2009 at 10:33 PM

That was great. And he flies in the cheap seats to boot.

What a class act.

Knucklehead on June 2, 2009 at 10:34 PM

Those guys are in high school? Whoa, some big boys there for high school.

Bishop on June 2, 2009 at 10:36 PM

This made the news? Wow. Maybe there is hope yet…

Not really, it was just fun to say it.

Hog Wild on June 2, 2009 at 10:41 PM

Wow! That was terrific.
Thanks AP.

gatewaypundit on June 2, 2009 at 10:45 PM

Damn I wanted to hear more of it.

jaboba on June 2, 2009 at 10:45 PM

A great black man who will never get his due respect.

conservnut on June 2, 2009 at 10:01 PM

Fixed it.

Terrie on June 2, 2009 at 10:48 PM

Those guys are in high school? Whoa, some big boys there for high school.

Bishop on June 2, 2009 at 10:36 PM

Been to a HS football game lately? In the late 1970s, I played against a tackle (6′3″, 240 lbs) who later started for three years at Ohio State. In 2005, that guy had a son playing tackle at his old high school. At 6′6, 305 lb, the son got a full ride to Ohio State. These HS kids are huge.

BuckeyeSam on June 2, 2009 at 10:48 PM

Justice Thomas is such class! Sitting in coach, giving his time to speak at the graduation of two young men he had met briefly.

Great American Hero!

TN Mom on June 2, 2009 at 10:48 PM

Y’know I had just written up a rant about how the way you’re supposed to show class is to stop off at 5 guys and answer a question from a (purely random) onlooker about a topic you just happen to be pushing today and then I realized something more important about the speech.

Thomas’ graduation speech was about THE STUDENTS… not THOMAS…

Even with the fake class of going to 5 guys, Obama can’t even muster up real class and had to make the graduation speeches about himself…

Skywise on June 2, 2009 at 10:52 PM

Hey, that’s really cool!

AbaddonsReign on June 2, 2009 at 10:53 PM

Guess they don’t mention Thomas during Black History Month. Not that they should, as he’s only some judge.

rockhead on June 2, 2009 at 10:57 PM

What would Biden say.

the_nile on June 2, 2009 at 10:59 PM

A SC justice flying coach. The man is a real American hero.

edshepp on June 2, 2009 at 11:02 PM

It’s really weird to see a conservative treated with such dignity. I never thought we would get to this point, but here we are. Bitter sweet.

TampaBayBull on June 2, 2009 at 11:03 PM

ChimpyO takes credit in 5…4…3…

csdeven on June 2, 2009 at 11:07 PM

“He’s a huge Cornhusker fan.”

No wonder I think he’s the best we’ve ever had on the Court.

notropis on June 2, 2009 at 11:08 PM

Wonderful story!

Hard to believe a Supreme Court justice flies coach, especially nowadays. That is class.

Sekhmet on June 2, 2009 at 11:10 PM

Class Act. Makes me proud….

DL13 on June 2, 2009 at 11:13 PM

Husker games are always more fun when Rush shows up to watch them with the judge.

God bless you, Mr. Thomas!

NebCon on June 2, 2009 at 11:14 PM

Never do this, but will for the PRIDE of Pin Point, Georgia, “GO HUSKERS!”

Branch Rickey on June 2, 2009 at 11:22 PM

What else can you say about someone so magnificent?

D2Boston on June 2, 2009 at 11:23 PM

I had the opportunity to hear him speak a while back…he stuck around afterwards shaking hands, posing for pictures, & chatting with everyone that didn’t mind waiting. He’s EXTREMELY down-to-earth. He said he and his wife enjoy getting out in their RV and being around like-minded people. We could use more like him…

DCJeff on June 2, 2009 at 11:38 PM

I was privileged to hear him speak at a Heritage Foundation luncheon in Dallas. He spoke about his life and had the most infectious laugh. He was a very sweet and honest individual, I’m glad that these boys got to meet him.

Aggie85 on June 2, 2009 at 11:44 PM

Bet his clerks enjoyed writing a commencement speech for a change of pace.

benny shakar on June 2, 2009 at 11:46 PM

The silent, forgotten one reminds us who he is…who he really is. Great stuff.

Hopefully these young men will remember what they learned there, when their friends perform the 10 Minutes Hate routine for Justice Thomas. They will know better.

Jaibones on June 2, 2009 at 11:48 PM

Video: Clarence Thomas, cool guy race traitor

/”Fixed” the way leftist bastards would.

Hawkins1701 on June 2, 2009 at 11:49 PM

[W]hen their friends perform the 10 Minutes Hate routine for Justice Thomas. They will know better.

Jaibones on June 2, 2009 at 11:48 PM

Exactly. And you never know what these seemingly small victories will turn into.

baldilocks on June 2, 2009 at 11:59 PM

That was just a totally nice story. Very class acts all around.

Dr. Manhattan on June 3, 2009 at 12:21 AM

God bless Clarence Thomas and all those who do what is right not what is popular.

petunia on June 3, 2009 at 12:42 AM

Yeah he’s cool guys, just don’t read any of his rulings!

Terry Silver on June 3, 2009 at 1:04 AM

Justice Thomas — who otherwise never misses court — skipped a SCOTUS session to speak at the graduation of his travel companions.

Too awesome for words. Except one: America.

Feedie on June 3, 2009 at 1:06 AM

A real man! How refreshing! Loved the story and thanks for getting it for us AP!

After a long week of bad stories, this was greatly needed!

freeus on June 3, 2009 at 1:57 AM

Nice story until benny the stinky has to pop off. Can you libs ever ever just go w/the flow and say something nice? it must suck to be you.

arnold ziffel on June 3, 2009 at 2:01 AM

Justice Thomas is truly a great American.

jonezee on June 3, 2009 at 2:21 AM

DDT on June 3, 2009 at 3:08 AM

I have to give him props for this story.

Tim Burton on June 3, 2009 at 3:46 AM

Those two kids got more words out of Thomas than hundreds of litigants before the Supreme Court.

PresidenToor on June 3, 2009 at 3:47 AM

Class, nothing else. All the libtards out there ,take a lesson. This is what America is all about. Two shining..oops three shining examples of THE AMERICAN DREAM.Even though i’m an atheist let me say God Bless Them.

DDT on June 3, 2009 at 3:08 AM

Well said.

Wanderlust on June 3, 2009 at 4:08 AM

Class is as class does. Maybe our greatest Supreme Court Justice ever. Bravo Hotair.

O’Reilly? You there Bill?

You won’t find this on HuffPo or KOS. (Yeah I checked already). Points was disappointed…

alohapundit on June 3, 2009 at 5:18 AM

Wait. Is there a possible NCAA violation? Did the school stage it so that Clarence Thomas would be on that plane at just the right time to convince these boys to go to Nebraska and play football?

Crud.

Spent too long at HuffPo and KOS looking up if they had this story and now methinks my head is full of conspiracy theories…

/sarc

alohapundit on June 3, 2009 at 5:29 AM

Didn’t think it was possible, but, Thomas was just elevated higher in my level of respect and admiration.

sybilll on June 2, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Clarence Thomas is a man that all American children should aspire to be like. The left knows it and thats why they fear him.

peacenprosperity on June 2, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Dittoes to both. Words cannot express how much I admire this man. And I believe history, when this historical hiccup of relativism and mememe postmodernism is over, that he WILL get his due respect.

In the meantime (since Justice Thomas prolly won’t live to see that) I’ma write him a letter telling him what a cool guy I think he is. And I think anyone who feels strongly about how he’s been treated by the scumbags on the left should do the same. JMO.

inviolet on June 3, 2009 at 5:44 AM

I absolutely love Clarence Thomas. A man full of class, authenticity, humility, and true grace. A genuine guy and a brilliant Supreme Court intellect. God bless such an honorable man.

Jockolantern on June 3, 2009 at 5:50 AM

Thomas is way cool! So much class and authenticity.

Frances on June 3, 2009 at 5:54 AM

What? No picketing? No protests? No chairs turned backwards during the speech? My gosh…what has happened to the world?

Isn’t it sad that this is what I expect to see when they have conservatives on any college campus these days?

Clarence Thomas’ book is very, very good. Yeah, it’s true about the RVing which did make me want to get one one day. If I remember correctly, they stay in various Walmarts through out the country. No joke. On top of that, he is a patriot and exceptional scholar who has withstood IMMENSE persecution from within his community and without. I think the book also said that he was a black activist in his youth, too.

This is a GOOD MAN. I really cannot praise him enough and he has also been a hero of mine for some time. I’d love to meet him one day.

It will be a sad day when we lose him on the court. What a trustworthy person…and in this day, wow, isn’t it invaluable to have someone in government you can trust?

Mommypundit on June 3, 2009 at 6:17 AM

Justice Thomas is my favorite US Supreme Court judge. He delivers well reasoned and fair decisions based in law as well as sharp and powerful descents also based on law. I love how he doesn’t have to ask a lot of questions to know what the US Constitution says and he also feels fine flying coach. Rock on!

Dollayo on June 3, 2009 at 6:19 AM

Exactly. And you never know what these seemingly small victories will turn into.

baldilocks on June 2, 2009 at 11:59 PM

Let’s hope the Justice had a big enough effect on them to counter what they will hear from professors.
