TEMS: Andrew Malcolm, Marco Rubio

posted at 12:38 pm on June 2, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Today, on the Ed Morrissey Show (3 pm ET), we have a great show lined up for you! In the first half, Andrew Malcolm joins us for our weekly conversation, in which we’ll talk about Obama’s big sell of Sotomayor on Capitol Hill, Government Motors and Obama’s promise to stay out of its operations, the two politically-driven murders and varying reactions to them, and more.

In the second half, we’ll talk to Florida’s Speaker of the House and candidate for US Senate Marco Rubio. We’ll ask him about running against an endorsement from a national Republican group in a primary, why he thinks he best represents Florida, and what his policy priorities would be if elected. Don’t miss this conversation with the man at the center of the GOP firestorm! And give big thanks to Val Prieto at Babalublog, who arranged it for me!

Now you can join the conversation in the chat room! Be sure to register at Ustream to participate in our raucous live-chat sessions. (And if the log-in prompt doesn’t come up in the chat box below, use this link instead.) Jazz Shaw of The Moderate Voice moderates the chat, and he has his Troll Gun Trivia Contest running before the show, for those who get there early — and are registered!

agreed. he’s a rising star. i hope we wins in 2010, but if not, he’ll be in national politics for a long time in the future

Go Marco!

TimTebowSavesAmerica on June 2, 2009 at 1:42 PM

Florida Republicans do not like Crist. Go Rubio

Nice hair!

Er, no Silky/Blago comparisons meant.

Not often HA puts up a little eye candy for the ladies . . . Thanks, Ed!!

He’s quite attractive but Ed, don’t forget to ask him what’s is strategy to close the gap with Crist. His twitter doesn’t give anything away and his website isn’t hip at all.

how about this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yc-qRFpAM4

that got me hooked. it’s his farewell speech in the florida legislature. no notes, no TOTUS (or “FLotus”?), just 7 1/2 minutes of what america really means.

the guy has ‘charisma’. i watched that, and signed up immediately on his website (and i hate spam mail even). never been to florida other than vacation to the ‘redneck riviera’ panhandle as a kid, but i’d give him a few bucks if he has a shot of winning in 2010.

battleoflepanto1571 on June 2, 2009 at 2:14 PM

whoops, didnt mean to post so early. also meant to add ‘i saw online that the FL primary isn’t until AUGUST, so he has more time and will get more media attention as the only big political race around come august’

Please ask Rubio about his thoughts on the 2008 election, particularly McCain and Palin. I thought it was interesting since most of the Cuban American community voted either for McCain or Giuliani, he chose Mike Huckabee. Why did he and not the others?

jencab on June 2, 2009 at 2:29 PM

Do I have to be registered to stream the show? Not chat, just listen. I am work so I can’t do anything tricky. If I knew how to do anything tricky.

Marco Rubio is EXACTLY the type of conservative the GOP needs to support and promote. Why can’t the party leaders see and believe this truth?

He is a hit with the younger generation. The fact that he actually uses Facebook and Twitter and updates them himself has gone a long way. He’s “cool” and doesn’t need to be “hip.” He spoke at my University and everybody loved him. The next day everyone’s Facebook profile picture was them with Marco. He is charismatic, enthusiastic, and a great speaker. At the event he didn’t use notes and he received thunderous applause from a crowded room. He has that great combination of being appealing/amiable and intelligent.

We can expect great things from Rubio.

bella710 on June 2, 2009 at 3:33 PM

“Quite attractive”? The guy’s a total stud!

Nothing in particular against Crist, who wouldn’t be a bad choice if Rubio weren’t in the running.

But the GOP is steeped in incurable stupidity if it really is wasting its resources throwing them behind Crist when 2009 isn’t even half over yet, as if it’s desperate to cut Rubio off at the pass.

Watch the Rubio video at the link in Ed’s piece. Just watch it.

Then tell me they haven’t lost their minds at the NRSC.

Watch the recorded show if you missed it folks. The Rubio interview was great.

forest on June 2, 2009 at 4:06 PM

Ed-
Thanks for a great show. Rubio seems to be my kind of candidate.

I will see Rubio on Friday in Orlando at the Family Cafe conference on disabilities.

How can I post your interview on my blog and do I have permission to do so?

Hope you see this-Thanks

Marco Rubio was a breath of fresh air and this was a must see program today. If you missed it, I hope you will listen to the interview as soon as possible. I am so impressed with his conservative principles and his passion for leading as a conservative. If you live in Florida, you are one blessed individual to have a candidate of this caliber running for your senator. Ed, I sincerely hope you will have Marco Rubio on again as the primary season progresses. Thank you Marco Rubio and Ed Morrissey! (-;

We Republicans might be in the wilderness right now, but Rubio is like a campfire, burning brightly. Marco Rubio is a leader and I intend to measure his words to his actions. We already know what happens when people only listen to words and refuse to consider ones actions.

I’m from MN and I envy you Floridians who have a choice in Marco Rubio. Lucky ducks.
