Quote of the day

posted at 10:32 pm on June 2, 2009 by Allahpundit

Steven Aftergood, a security expert at the Federation of American Scientists in Washington, revealed the existence of the document Monday in Secrecy News, an electronic newsletter that he publishes on the web.

He expressed bafflement at its disclosure, calling it “a one-stop shop for information on U.S. nuclear programs.”…

The report details the locations of hundreds of nuclear sites and activities. Each page is marked across the top “HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL SAFEGUARDS SENSITIVE,” with the exception of pages that detail additional information such as site maps. In his transmittal letter, Mr. Obama said the cautionary language was a classification category of the I.A.E.A.’s inspectors.

Some of the comments in this thread are really OTT. I mean come on, are you forgetting the don’t fall for ODS pep talks on various blogs including this one?

Screw up is always more likely than conspiracy espcially considering the President does not instigate and is not responsible for every action carried out my government employees. Responsible for consequences maybe but not for the actions themselves.

I mean seriously, what are you saying? Obama is leaking nuke secrets?! How are you even keeping a straight face?

Anyway you think they would put it on a public website if that were the case!

VeniVidiVidic on June 2, 2009 at 11:39 PM

From here (scroll way down):

http://classicalvalues.com/archives/2005_12.html

FBI agents and Homeland Security officials spent the weekend investigating the report of a possible missile fired at an American Airlines plane taking off from Los Angeles International Airport.

Sources tell ABC News the pilot of American Airlines Flight 621, en route to Chicago, radioed air traffic controllers after takeoff from LAX. He told them a missile had been fired at the aircraft and missed.

The plane was over water when the pilot said he saw a smoke trail pass by the cockpit.

FBI agents believe it was a flare or a bottle rocket, but say they may never know if that’s what it actually was.

The story has been linked by Drudge and by Charles Johnson. The “flare or bottle rocket” nonsense has been thoroughly debunked by Bill Quick, the Jawa Report, and WitNit, as these things simply can’t make it up to 6600 feet.

So the fumbling or dissembling FBI (don’t know which) now has an alternative case-closed explanation: the pilot saw a “contrail” streaking past.

Really? Contrails are only made by planes. Must have been a hallucination of some sort.

Used to have a bumpersticker that said “I BRAKE FOR HALLUCINATIONS.”

This is all very interesting, but IMHO the story can’t go anywhere unless witnesses come forth, as it’s been reduced to case-officially-closed, blogospheric speculation. There’s nothing else to do but speculate, and since it’s Saturday, I’ll join in with some (hopefully logical) speculation of my own.

cs89 on June 2, 2009 at 11:42 PM

Well, It looks like Armandinnerjacket won’t need to produce his own weapons — Obama just gave him a shopping list.

Let’s see:
1) Obama stops selling arms to Israel
2) and says Iran has rights to nukes
3) and _won’t_ comment on William Long death
4) and suddenly he has ‘muslim’ roots (according to WH)
5) and there’s his trip planned for Egypt
6) and now he’s released the locations of all our nuclear materials.

I’m beginning to think the conspiracy whackjobs are right – he _is_ the muslim manchurian candidate.

I think Obama is going with the ‘hang out with fat girls’ theory: if you hang out with girls fatter than you, you look thinner. I think he’s surrounding himself with staffers that are so competent that his own incompetence and lack of experience doesn’t look that bad. Just look at the mailroom clerk he selected to run GM.

Eventually, Obama is going to get overconfident and let the mask slip enough that even our kow-towing press won’t be able to ignore or spin it. Hopefully that is sooner than later – and before it’s too late.

……. the result, we have Trillions, TRILLIONS of spending and dept that our children will have to pay, with Hyper-Inflation only four to six months away.

Obama and the Democrats cover up the cause of the Economic Crisis, take over Fanny Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG, and others, while busing in thugs to intimidate the workers who were only following Federal Mandates that caused the problem…..

Obama and the Democrats then muscle in on the banks, again, who were only following the Federal Mandates that caused the problem……..

Obama and the Democrats take large private companies who employ, along with the supply line, hundreds of thousands of Americans, while breaking Contract Laws, and selectively put them out of work while China buys up said assets and will build them in China with no EPA standards, which if we will want to buy them in the future, we will have to import……….

Obama and the Democrats single out Republican contributors to seize their businesses, and put them out of work…….

Obama and the Democrats slash the Military budget, while increasing funds to La Raza and ACORN……..

Obama and the Democrats, for political fodder, let the world know our interrogation techniques so they can train against them…………

Obama and the Democrats reach out to our enemies, while humiliating our allies……….

Obama and the Democrats go on a world tour to ‘apologize’ for decades or our protection, foreign aid, and humanitarian relief……….

Obama and the Democrats humiliate Israel, support Iran in it’s Nuclear ambitions, are silent against North Korea, and then leak United States Military secrets…………

I think either Iran or Al Qaeda are sending Barry a message.

There was an arrest of an “al Qaeda” suspect in Brazil last Tuesday. There is one report that he was let go. Tri border region in Brazil is a Jihadi nexus. (Hezbollah, Hamas, AlQaeda, Iran all operate there) Now we have a plane that originated in Brazil go down. There’s a report of a Continental Express flight over Texas reporting a “missle” passing underneath it at 13,000 ft. last friday. And yesterday we happen to have a jihadi from Yemen shoot up a military recruitment office in Arkansas….pattern? coincidence?

Whew, glad this wasn’t anything serious, like any nuclear secrets or anything. Because a terrorist might like to bomb nuclear sites and cause all kinds of damage… but luckily the adults are in charge of Washington these days and no important information was published. Because there are bad actors out there who might use important information about how and where the sensitive nuclear sites are and find holes in our security and cause a huge spread of radiation…

IDIOTS!

petunia on June 3, 2009 at 12:52 AM

It was a screw up no doubt but on the other hand security through obscurity is no security at all. Either a site has appropriate security and measures in place and the mere knowledge of it’s existence isn’t a major risk or it shouldn’t be handling these kind of materials at all.

“It’s going further than I would have gone but doesn’t look like a serious breach.”

This is from john m. deutch, the guy the times goes to as an expert. they are impressed with him because he is

a former director of central intelligence and deputy secretary of defense who is now a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In an earlier article from February, 2001 they reported

George J Tenet, director of central intelligence, was not consulted by Pres Clinton on his decision to pardon former director John M Deutch on Clinton’s final day in office; pardon of Deutch on charges that he mishandled classified material while director has been questioned by some members of Congress

So these are the people that ed likes to say are “just good Americans who have a different idea of how things should be done.”

This country is being systematically, intentionally destroyed from within by enemies that now control all branches of government. Anyone who thinks that we just have to muddle through the barry years and then conservatives can win some elections and start getting things back on track are deluding themselves.

Cindy Munford on June 3, 2009 at 6:39 AM

Listen…

for anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear, you know this is not a coincidence.

None of it is.

He is content to let people think he is “inexperienced” or learning on the job so that he can further his (and his friends’) agenda.

One does NOT need to be a conspiracy theorist to look at what the far left wants and what they loathe.

American is an imperialist nation. The military is corrupt and are child killing machines. Republicans are racist and/or crazy. USA is at best arrogant, at worst a world danger and needs to be destroyed. They want NO nukes, no security, one world utopia which, in reality, is really rule by the powerful. Ask what nations REALLY stand in the way of this hegemony/consolidation of their influence? USA and possibly Israel. Certainly USA.

Remember, Bill Ayers and his ilk did not RENOUNCE the sentiment behind the Weather Underground violence. They never renounced the death camps for capitalists and the reeducation camps for the weak-willed. Never did.

When we talk about enemies from without, we do not doubt that terrorists want our utter annihilation. We see their tenacity. Yet, these domestic terrorists from within, the communists, the socialists, etc., they HATE American society and our freedom and want an end to it by hook or crook. How will they do this? What would the steps be to initiate this process? How far back do you want to go? They have been plating these seeds for a long, long time.

So, we cannot trust our own government. In truth, we haven’t really been able to for awhile, but, it’s never been so apparent now. What matters when you can’t trust the people in power?

I guess we take care of ourselves and lose any illusion of safety. We talk with our neighbors and move to safer places with more options. We watch and take privacy seriously (particularly online). We have contingency plans. We also hope that the military, or at least the majority of it, will see this and form coalitions against it. We also pray that the press might see the worth of protecting the nation and stand firm. IS it possible that he could get kicked out? One can only PRAY.

Bottom line, no one can NOT see this trend now. It’s getting to much…the overreach happened a LONG time ago.

U.S. Releases Secret List of Nuclear Sites Accidentally

Accidentally???
Accidentally???
Really???
Here’s the short list,,,,
This guy is traveling the world bowing and apologizing to our enemies!
He snubs our friends and allies!
Now we admits to his Muslim roots!
He says were are no longer a Christian country!
He says Iran, who wants to blow up the world has a right to Nuclear power!
He has stated on film that he wants to make drastic cuts to our own nuclear defenses!
He is openly pursuing policies that will obliterate the US economy!
He is seizing American business!
He wants to release terrorists from Gitmo into our streets!
He releases memos that reveal to the world and to our enemies our interrogation techniques but cannot or will not release the memos that reveal how those interrogations saved American lives!
He flirts with the idea of investigating and putting former President Bush on trial,,, the very same thing many other terrorists around the world would love to do!!!! Wow,, what a coincidence!!

Now,, somehow just by accident,,, nuclear secrets are released to the world!!! Really???
yeah,,, this President is certainly historical!!! My question is to the freaking RINO’s!!!! How far into history are they willing to follow this guy????!!!!All the way to hell???

“These screw-ups happen,” said John M. Deutch, a former director of central intelligence

He ought to know.

DrSteve on June 3, 2009 at 8:25 AM

No mistake.

Obama is fast tracking his disarmament policy, making the USA the UN’s sacrificial guinea pig set for slaughter via experiment gone bad.

Note well the apologists are both Democrat sooth sayers in the environmentalist false science political agenda camp.

The federal government mistakenly made public [online and in full] a 266-page report, its pages marked “highly confidential,” that gives detailed information about hundreds of the nation’s civilian nuclear sites and programs, including maps showing the precise locations of stockpiles of fuel for nuclear weapons. On Tuesday evening, after inquiries from The New York Times, the document was withdrawn from a Government Printing Office Web site.

“These screw-ups happen,” said John M. Deutch, a former director of central intelligence and deputy secretary of defense who is now a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. “It’s going further than I would have gone but doesn’t look like a serious breach.”

Place Clinton’s criminal Deutch and his comment into full disclosure context:

US intelligence officials say George J Tenet, director of central intelligence, was not consulted by Pres Clinton on his decision to pardon former director John M Deutch on Clinton’s final day in office; pardon of Deutch on charges that he mishandled classified material while director has been questioned by some members of Congress.
February 17, 2001
U.S. Clears Ex-C.I.A. Chief Over Secrets

Pentagon study concludes that Defense Dept secrets that John M Deutch, former director of central intelligence, kept on his unsecured home computer apparently did not fall into wrong hands; Pentagon has been assessing whether secret data might have been compromised; separate CIA investigation of his computer use reached same conclusion
February 2, 2001

The article concludes with the final stroke to “forget about it” from Thomas Cochran:

Thomas B. Cochran, a senior scientist in the nuclear program of the Natural Resources Defense Council, a private group in Washington that tracks atomic arsenals, called the document harmless. “It’s a better listing than anything I’ve seen” of the nation’s civilian nuclear complex, Mr. Cochran said. “But it’s no national-security breach. It confirms what’s already out there and adds a bit more information.”

From their own website: NRDC is the nation’s most effective environmental action group, combining the grassroots power of 1.2 million members and online activists with the courtroom clout and expertise of more than 350 lawyers, scientists and other professionals. Thomas B. Cochran is the director of NRDC’s Nuclear Program and holds the Wade Greene Chair for Nuclear Policy. He initiated NRDC’s nuclear weapons databook project and the U.S.-Soviet nuclear weapons verification project, a four-year collaboration between NRDC and the Soviet Academy of Sciences, to demonstrate that a low-threshold nuclear test ban treaty could be verified. Dr. Cochran has been a member of numerous government advisory committees on nuclear energy, nonproliferation and nuclear clean-up issues; he joined NRDC in 1973. Two children: Jaquelin is in graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley, in the ERG Program; Carrie works on a Chesapeake Bay Foundation farm growing organic vegetables for low income families.

So just forget that it was President Obama, in accordance with official UN additional protocol, who gift wrapped online the complete, comprehensive details for terrorists to abuse and endanger American national security via theft and sabotage of ALL nuclear components. And the timing is priceless, all accomplished prior to Obama’s address to Islam in Egypt.

In his letter of transmittal to Congress, Mr. Obama characterized the information as “sensitive but unclassified” The report details the locations of hundreds of nuclear sites and activities. Each page is marked across the top “Highly Confidential Safeguards Sensitive” in capital letters, In his transmittal letter, Mr. Obama said the cautionary language was a classification category of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s inspectors.

The agency, in Vienna, is a unit of the United Nations whose mandate is to enforce a global treaty that tries to keep civilian nuclear programs from engaging in secret military work.
n recent years, it has sought to gain wide adherence to a set of strict inspection rules, known formally as the additional protocol. The rules give the agency powerful new rights to poke its nose beyond known nuclear sites into factories, storage areas, laboratories and anywhere else that a nation might be preparing to flex its nuclear muscle. The United States signed the agreement in 1998 but only recently moved forward with carrying it out.

The report lists many particulars about nuclear programs and facilities at the nation’s three nuclear weapons laboratories — Los Alamos, Livermore and Sandia — as well as dozens of other federal and private nuclear sites.

One of the most serious disclosures appears to center on the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, which houses the Y-12 National Security Complex, a sprawling site ringed by barbed wire and armed guards. It calls itself the nation’s Fort Knox for highly enriched uranium, a main fuel of nuclear arms.

The report lists “Tube Vault 16, East Storage Array,” as a prospective site for nuclear inspection. It said the site, in Building 9720-5, contains highly enriched uranium for “long-term storage.”

An attached map shows the exact location of Tube Vault 16 along a hallway and its orientation in relation to geographic north, although not its location in the Y-12 complex.a typical tube vault can hold up to 44 tons of highly enriched uranium in 200 tubes. Motion detectors and television cameras typically monitor each vault.

“Unbelievable” does not apply to our tainted President Obama whose priorities are biased against the USA to abuse our Constitutional Government for his Marxist agenda.

At this point, there needs to be actual outrageous outrage over this suspicious omission. There is a real rush to judgement over the Tiller murder. Rightfully so. But, there is NOTHING about the jihadist killing of a SOLDIER?? SERIOUSLY????????????? A private sector murder gets top billing because it fits liberal talking points. But, let a uniformed officer of our country get murdered and he gets nothing from his commander in chief. At this point, it’s too late for Obama to redeem himself from. THIS, friends, is the mask falling.
