In addition to criticizing some of Sotomayor’s rulings directly, Senate Republicans are focusing on process, suggesting that if Democrats try to ram through her nomination quickly, it will be a cause for most Republicans to vote against her. The hope is that a slower confirmation process will give Republicans a chance to make their case on judicial philosophy, even if they seem almost certain to fall far short of preventing Sotomayor from filling the seat being vacated by Justice David Souter.

From what I understand, Miranda and McConnell both want a filibuster, just different approaches, styles and effects.

But I’ve got to read Miranda’s letter, and research just what this Demo-memo-no-no happened under Frist. Given the DeLay shaft, or something different?

this is less about accomplishing something useful in the Senate than staking a claim to being the true “true conservatives,” the sine qua non of which is confronting liberals even when it’ll achieve nothing and quite possibly backfire.
