It’s an interesting time when an American political leader goes to China — and winds up sounding more authoritarian than the government in Beijing. Nancy Pelosi managed it while discussing the way green policies will be enforced in the Democratic regime in Washington DC. When pressed on specifics, Pelosi promised an “inventory” of every American’s carbon footprint (via Say Anything):
In answering a question from a student about how Pelosi was going to get Americans to cut back on their carbon emissions, the leading Democratic lawmaker said it was important to educate children on how to conserve energy and for citizens to build more environmentally friendly homes.
“We have so much room for improvement,” she said. “Every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory … of how we are taking responsibility.”
Hmmm …. and who would conduct these “inventories”? A YouTube video speculates on that question:
Make no mistake about it. The climate-change activists want state control of energy production and use, which will allow the government control over every aspect of our lives. It’s the lifelong dream of utopian elitists. This only counts as a gaffe under the definition of the term as “the accidental telling of an embarrassing truth by a politician”.

Man made global warming hysteria is a by product of White guilt. Who invented the automobile? A White guy. Who invented the airplane? Two White guys. Who invented the assembly line that churns out mass produced disposable goods? White guys. In the same way that leftists blame the White man for all the oppression and injustice in the world, they also blame the White man for inventing all this technology that’s supposedly destroying the planet.
The folly of it all is that China, India and lots of other non-White nations have co-opted this technology, and they could give a rat’s rear end about global warming.

Stay the frak away from my children, Pelosi. Sorry, but it’s not your responsibility to ‘educate’ my children about conserving anything – that’s my job. Besides, I’m pretty sure Nancy has no idea what the word “conserve” means in the first place.

Why do you think everything, even cars, now has a barcode? To track not only inventory and purchases, but products with respect to how much of an impact they will have on the environment. Every wrapper, every tire, every piece of furniture – tracked.

I’ll join the refrain asking why Obama sent Pelosi instead of his Secretary of State to China. (Yes, the idea that she went on her own is a possibility. But that he’d send her is more likely, getting her out of his hair.)
But was he dismayed by Hillary’s “reset” faux pas?
Does Pelosi’s trip abroad during Bush’s presidency (to destabilize his work) give her better “experience” as Obama’s envoy than Hillary has credit?

It’s been a while, but when I was stationed in the UK, you had to buy a license for your TV–and radio, too, at one time, I believe. Wasn’t cheap, either. There were vans that would drive around monitoring signals–and if you didn’t have a license, you got a fine. Years later on another tour, I also learned from a Brit neighbor that you had to have a license for a sprinkler for your yard–and there were helicopters that monitored lawns for inappropriate greenness compared to those around them. No license–you get a fine. It’s coming soon–to a city near you!!

I’m wondering how much, and how soon, the U.S. Census will reflect this level of control over our lives. When the government does us the favor of paying for our health care (sarc), it will claim the right to know about every aspect of what we eat and drink, our exercise habits, and just about anything else — to save the taxpayers money in the long run, of course. I’m very worried about the intrusiveness of the 2010 census, although I haven’t seen its questions, and I can only guess that the 2020 census will probe our lives even more intrusively.
