Obamateurism of the Day
posted at 8:05 am on May 28, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
The media has assured us repeatedly that in Barack Obama, we have an executive with unparalleled intelligence — a Harvard Law Review editor, a Constitutional law scholar, and a best-selling author. Unfortunately, he’s not very good at remembering the people on his senior staff. Last week, President Obama talked about the high-powered talent in his Cabinet:
The actual Secretary of Defense is Robert Gates, not William Gates. Obama can’t even claim that Gates is too new to remember; the Defense Secretary has been at that table longer than Obama, having been appointed in 2006. William “Bill” Gates founded Microsoft and gave us the Windows empire.
Maybe TOTUS runs on Windows Vista?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

All those white guys look the same, anyway. He needs some latina women to make better decisions. We want the best.

I’m happy you write this post, Ed. It’s very entertaining and I read it almost every day – first thing.

Dear Leader is too busy wrecking the American economy to worry about national defense.

A king can’t be expected to remember the names of his subjects.
Ogabe should make it easy on himself and refer to people in the manner that he really thinks of them; “peons.”

Oh, but he has great pecs, he walks his dog BO like a regular guy, and he is so cool.
jbh45 on May 28, 2009 at 8:21 AM
Obama probably remembers William Gates’ name better because he’s seen it on so many campaign contribution checks. Robert Gates — probably not so much.
AZCoyote on May 28, 2009 at 8:22 AM
Considering the manner in which Bill Gates defended Microsoft from the US government he would undoubtedly be a far better Secretary of Defense than Robert Gates.

Just goes to prove that if you are going to Harvard the only premium over other colleges is that you are going to overpay.
Barry’s certainly no genius. He displays ignorance and ineptitude constantly. And that’s WHEN the TOTUS is working. Remove TOTUS and he blathers random gibberish.

That explains all of the mis-fires, gaffes, re-boots and Beta testing of the clueless Puppet, his megalomania and his monumentally incompetent Administration.
He’s just ‘good enough’ for the for the whole country when we need a Linux/UNIX grade operator.

Way to stay current, Ed.

With rogue states testing nukes and shooting off ballistic missiles, it’s now too obviously a dangerous world to have this fluffer-nutter running the show. Unfortunately it would take an extraordinary amount of vision and courage by the US Congress to do something about it. Yuh. That’ll happen. Permission granted to laugh to keep from crying.
What can we as individual civic-minded, concerned Americans do? There’s just one thing left to us.
Avoid population centers.

Obama probably meets more often with Bill than with Robert. That’s why the name was jumbled.

Seriously, I was more upset that he seemed to just flow right past without even recognizing the error after he said it.

It’s too bad comedians can’t find ways to poke fun at Obama.

People who mock muslims sometimes end up dead you know.

Going over a few Joe Biden moments:
1. He [Obama] thinks Easter is about him.
2. He will be tested.
3. Pokes fun at Obama’s inability to get the oath right.
4. Obama can’t do anything without a teleprompter.
I get the impression that Joe Biden can’t restrain himself because he’s still incredulous that this phony actually got elected.
Daggett on May 28, 2009 at 9:18 AM
Forgetting the names of your cabinet is just a sign of intelligence.

Ugh. He’s a bloody idjit.

Leave Obama alone! it was all the fault of that dirty backstabbing TOTUS paying tribute to its OS’s creator! It simply can’t be that the messiah made an error (that will not be reported).

ChimpyO is the most despicable black person I have ever had the misfortune of being exposed to. It’s too bad he ran as a person of color and now has to be judged by that standard. He diminishes minorities, Americans, and this country specifically.

Oh not just a Constitutional law scholar, but technically a professor of Constitutional law. You forgot that talking point. (That reminds me, I should see if any of the local schools need anybody to teach physics 101, chem 101, or computer science 101. That way I could claim to be a professor of physics, chemistry, and CS.)

William Ayres (aka Bill Ayres)?

You’re right of course. The fact that he’s a complete idiot is old news.

Maybe Bill Gates is the actual secretary, and Robert doesn’t know that yet? LOL
Isn’t that the need for all the czars? They oversee the secretaries as it is.

He was at another fundraiser today in Hollywood. WTF! With all the crap going on in the world he is partying again? Just proves that he is not in charge. He is the face and voice, told what to say and when. Frickin pathetic!

ED, if I’m not mistaken, Obama was elected president of HLR. He was never its editor. As you know, it’s the difference between a ceremonial post and the blood and guts of a publication. This is a misrepresentation often cited by Obama supporters to demonstrate his superior intelligence and management ability. I gather from quotes I’ve read by Obama’s HLR contemporaries that he was for the most part a no-show. Had he actually been an editor, he might by now have demonstrated some measure of executive acumen.
