Michelle: Thanks for smearing our site, O’Reilly
posted at 4:37 pm on May 28, 2009 by Allahpundit
Sit back and marvel as the boss segues righteously from a rant about whether Obama is targeting Republican-owned Chrysler dealerships for closure into an indictment of big-media denigration of blogs, using last night’s sandbagging on the Factor as an example. The obvious questions at this hour: Will taking a shot at him on air force him to respond tonight? And how long will we have to wait for the inevitable retaliatory Jesse Waters ambush interview outside Michelle’s home?
As for Chrysler, Nate Silver dug around in HuffPo’s campaign contribution database and discovered that car dealers skew overwhelmingly GOP, so we shouldn’t be surprised that most of the shuttered Chrysler dealers are Republican donors too. That’s great — I acknowledged the possibility of it in my earlier post, just as MM does here — but the truly germane comparison is between Chrysler dealers who were torpedoed and Chrysler dealers who weren’t. We’ll see how that shakes out.

The -real- point is that Chrysler says they didn’t want to close dealerships, but were forced to by the whitehouse with tremendous pressure.
Now, they are looking to open up new ones.
The “are republican dealerships being forced closed” line is really distracting from the bigger issue at hand.

Anyone think Fox News is getting increasingly schizophrenic? Some shows are aware of parts of a story that other parts aren’t aware from, or they take different stances on the issues. This was particularly true on the AIG debate, where some shows were supporting the rights of the AIG workers, and other shows were smearing the “greedy executives”.
I hope if she does get ambushed, she invites Jesse in for tea. Or gets him to help do some research.

Oh good, this story is finally getting some legs. people, keep in mind that the real issue that we have to segue is whether Obama task force forced Chrysler’s hand? We’ve to dig for that evidence as well and if they did, we should get make huge fuss about that.

Ever since O’Reilly got the idea that oil and gas prices should move in tandom I have lost a ton of respect for him.
Lately he has been equating left and right websites and smearing “right wing” talk radio. I guess since his radio show has failed he now doesn’t feel like a part of the fraternity. Maybe he is trying to play to the middle. Who knows? I just know that he is a not very bright man who has an incredibly inflated ego.
Goodnight Ted.

AP, remember that in MO there was a Clinton gang’s dealership that got to keep all of its 6 franchises but the rest of the competition got wiped out. That’s very very suspicious.

therightscoop on May 28, 2009 at 4:47 PM
Exactly….want to make a guess at the demographic make up of the new ‘owners’ of those dealerships? Not only is this part of the remaking of America and dispensing of social and economic justice, it is a further extension of the corruption apparatus of the Democrat Party. You have the car czar married to the former finance chairperson of the DNC and you have Republican or GOP leaning dealership owners being robbed of their businesses only to have those businesses repackaged under minority ownership loyal to the Leftists.
It’s not only Facist, it’s Marxist in that it is a defacto seizing of private property for the ‘good’ of society and the government. Look at plank 4 of the Communist Manifesto.
Actually look at the whole damn document. It’s what’s going on right before our eyes.

AUINSC on May 28, 2009 at 4:49 PM
Bill, Schmill…What’s really important is this Socialist Coup our Dear Leader is totally getting away with. I saw a show on the History channel last night about the French Revolution and began to draw parallels with what is happening today. Doesn’t work out too well for President Robespierre this time either if my study of history is correct in the assessment of what will happen when Barack Robespierre goes too far(he’s already gone too far). The people are generally pretty stupid and will do nothing. As in the past, they will get plenty active when they get hungry, and seeing jobs lost every month, this may happen sooner than later….
adamsmith on May 28, 2009 at 4:49 PM
For years I have commented to my husband that I did not think O’Reily, or his staff, were doing a good job on their research. Too many times when someone on his show would make a comment about something they knew, or had read, Bill’s comeback has been, “Well we do not know that for sure”, and most of the time we DID know the facts for sure and it would have only taken a few minutes on the web to find it out. This really was evident to me during the election when he would not believe ACORN was tied to Obama and his cronies surrounding him. NOW, however, Bill seems to favor the idea and not be so squeamish about there possibly being a connection, whereas previously he pooh-poohed the idea. Bill is a day late and a dollar short on the whole ACORN deal.
If it was not for the guest on his show, I would never watch the man.

BO’R most likely has never visited HotAir…ever. He just parrots what his producers tell him any more. Rarely watch The Factor as it is looking a lot like MSNBC’s Olby without the rage…but about equal on the misinformation front.
He is trying so hard to be “fair and balanced” that he is overly PC, and lets too many things slide right past him. Some things are just plain wrong, and “consensus” doesn’t make wrong right.

And I’d keep an eye on who takes over shuttered dealerships.
BTW I finally found an explanation as to why they want to have fewer dealers – something which didn’t make sense to me:
It’s in the hopes that with fewer dealers there will be less price haggling and a bigger opportunity for a monopoly.
Although since Ford, Toyota, Nissan and the like won’t have the same constraints, you have to really, really want to own a Chrysler or GM car for this scheme to work.

Before conservatives plastered the airwaves with the accusation, this should have been checked out. The analysis using only closed dealers in itself proves nothing; it only tells us that such a proposition might be true, not that it is. Simple stats.

Excellent job by Michelle. Very pithy and pointed.
I have to wonder, does O’Reilly have some underlying animosity towards Michelle? As far as I can tell, she has never wronged him, but he seems to have a bug up his nether regions towards her.
I remember years ago she when she was guest-hosting the Factor, she was viciously attacked by some black racist. IIRC, O’Reilly did not come to her defense, so she refused to ever do his show again. Maybe he holds a gridge over the small amount of bad publicity that he received over that.
UltimateBob on May 28, 2009 at 5:06 PM
O’Reilly and the rest of the lapdog, main-stream media have the right take on this issue. I just wish everybody would stop asking intrusive questions about how our tax dollars are being spent. That sort of nosy inquiry might in some way cast this Administration in an unfavorable light.

I’m not sure if I would call it site-smearing. I watched O’Reilly last night. He did refer to a commenter, but that’s the nature of the beast. It was during his internet cop segment with M.K. Hamm. If the guy wants to be fair and balanced, I guess that he has to mention anything that looks off base. In any event, liberals don’t visit this site much and conservatives probably agreed with the commenter. I don’t think that it’s a big deal. If anything, HotAir got national publicity for free!

If it should come out that indeed many of these dealership closures are NOT done for political revenge, then we are left with only one conclusion: That they were done capriciously, without regard to profitability, efficiency and market sustainability.
Which is is much more harmful to the general economy and the business of making and selling automobiles than political revenge would be.

bmac727 on May 28, 2009 at 5:18 PM
On another Hotair thread a day or so ago on this topic I posed the question: why are dealerships being closed?
No one really knew – though there were some good guesses. You’re right – it’s scary that government is dictating these sorts of things. If Obama twisted this into attacking GOP donors it’s just mustard on our crap sandwich.
It’s funny how involved Obama’s administration is getting in running the auto industry when Obama claims he doesn’t want to be in the auto industry. He’ll probably spin all this interference as ‘looking after the tax-payer money given to these companies to ensure it’s being used properly…’.

O’Reilly should invite Michelle Malkin on for a rebuttal, and let her explain that Bloggers don’t necessarily agree with all commenters on their blogs. If he’s not man enough to do that, he should at least publish an E-mail from Michelle Malkin, who sometimes hosts the Factor when he’s on vacation.
I should know about bloggers not always agreeing with their commenters–how many times have I argued with AllahPundit over Evolution and Meghan McCain? But if O’Reilly likes Meghan McCain, he shouldn’t blame HotAir!

Michelle was good when she was guest hosting, but not great. Reading from scripts just ain’t her thing. Put her on air when she’s fired up about a particular topic, however, and _that’s_ gold.
On topic – this Chrysler fiasco isn’t going to amount to anything to knock Bubblehead out. It will take finding a dead crack wh*re in the Oval Office before the media finally shakes off the blinders they have on now.
Then again — maybe not…

Michelle and Bill had a falling out over Geraldo a few years ago. Gerry had his panties in a wad over Michelle’s immigration reporting, calling her a Nazi and saying he would spit in her face if she was to walk in the studio. Michelle called out Bill over this, and he got Gerry to say he was sorry about two weeks later, but neither one of them meant it. That is when Michelle quit being a Factor contributor and guest host. So Bill got Laura Ingraham to fill Michelle’s shoes there. She’s good, better than Bill IMHO. I miss Michelle on the air as host though. She was awesome. I tried to yell and scream at FOX to give Michelle her own program, maybe a weekend slot about the web. It seems Michelle is content to be a contributor on F&F and Cavuto. If she wanted her own show on FOX, I bet she could get it. She rocks the house as host!
Brian1972 on May 28, 2009 at 5:38 PM
All she’d have to do is explain that blog comments are from anyone and everyone, an instant version of feedback, just like when people email him every day that he reads at the end of the show. Does every one of those emails echo the tone and views of The Factor, any more than what I say necessarily reflect the veiws of Allah, Ed, or The Boss? Would he like it some publication generalized his entire show based on some of the dumber emails he gets?
