No, but he does know it is one of the 57 states.

csdeven on May 26, 2009 at 10:09 AM

I get so tired of hearing this misquote. He said he had visited 57 states, his staff wouldn't let him go to Alaska or Hawaii (?) and he had one more to go. He was basically saying we had sixty states, not 57.

See, he's not as stupid as people think he is.

But your point is well taken.

I just hope Uhhhhbama doesn't do something like "double dog dare" NK or Iran to launch a nuclear missile.

... what is North Korea trying to accomplish? Other than attention. What do they have to gain by using nuclear weapons?

therightwinger on May 26, 2009 at 9:00 AM

I wish I knew but these things come to mind:

(1) For many people in positions of power, attention does seem to be what they crave and are driven to seek.

(2) People who lock themselves in isolation can become paranoid, lose their sense of perspective and their ability assess matters clearly, and see bogeymen hiding in the shadows. If people living in the mostly fresh clear air of the USA and Europe can postulate wild conspiracy theories then those who have been steaming in the pressure cooker of NK for several decades can presumably do so too.

(3) They do have two nuclear-armed neighbours, neither of which is guaranteed to be North Korea's long-term friend. Plus their southern neighbour and ideological adversary is being greatly assisted by a third nuclear-armed country.

So, what looks like madness from the outside, perhaps seems a whole lot more justifiable from the inside.

Animal House: Starring Kim Jong Ill and his happy grinning North Korea Delta buddies; who are (un)accepted into the Nuclear Fraternity and join in on the wild toga parties, road trips, random rocket launches, occasional drunkenness, ribald debauchery, underground nuclear detonations, practical jokes and quite often starve their own frat boys. But Dean Obama is not so determined to have North Korea kicked off campus and its members expelled, so he sort of kind of enlists the help of Omega house and its former IAEA inspector Mohamed ElBaradei and so and so Hans Blix and insists on yet another drafted resolution strongly condemning Animal House by the U.N. Security Council. Yet, North Korea and its zany Delta throng won't go away quietly. Costars an unforgettable Bluto, played by John Belushi and Donald Sutherland also stars as the pot smoking Professor Jennings. Spoiler Alert; be sure to catch that edge of your seat scene where Kim Jong’s seemingly innocent cake float turns into a horrifying Black Death on wheels and destroys Dean Obama’s homecoming parade. Coming soon to a theatre near you.

Israel must reveal and dismantle its nuclear weaponry. It’s the only way we will be fair and just. No judgments ever. That is how to make the world safe.

JiangxiDad on May 26, 2009 at 8:56 AM

Normally, the assumption is an implied /sarc. In this case however, maybe an explicit /sarc?

I was thinking that since Obambi has already jumped with both feet onto the 'fair and just' brigade to bring international misery...err, equality...that perhaps we could just give Isreal all of our nuclear weapons? I wonder, would Obambi be in favor of outsourcing our glass parking-lot construction to Tel Aviv? I bet they could do a bang-up job.

It is just an extortnion game.
-
Getting consessions from the East and West while playing up their potential as a supplier of weapons to the middle east.
-
If he dropped one on Japan, they would wipe him off the map.
-
Even though they appear not to have the bomb, that deosn't mean they could not react.

Yes, but the next strongly worded memo will include Bold Font, Italics, and even Underlining.

Yes, but the next strongly worded memo will us Bold Font, Italics, and even Underlining. There's no way Kim can ever withstand that.

Heh.

15 resolutions later...the US will unilaterally say, "This is the last stern pre-warning we're going to give you!"

This seems all oddly familiar.

You know, if my mother had said, 'Wait until your father comes home young man!' and when Dad got home he said, 'Finish your dinner, son.' I really wouldn't be too worried about my Mom's warnings. However, in reality, my Dad would get home and beat the sass out of me, which meant Mom could get me to pick up my sister's room and mop the floors with my tongue if she wanted. Without anything to back up their 55 years of complete uselessness, NK knows that the UN is the princess that leads the paper tiger around by the neck.

Hans Brix indeed.
