Matthews to Axelrod: Awesome, awesome job picking fights with “crazies” like Rush

“Leg thrills galore,” as Hengler says. This one’s worth watching if only to see how long it takes Axelrod to get a word in edgewise, but on the merits, I don’t really get Matthews’s point about limiting attacks to Republicans who aren’t in government. The idea, I suppose, is to further weaken the GOP leadership in Congress by acting like Democrats are the only game in town — except that Democrats are the only game in town right now. The reason the White House goes after Rush, Newt, and Cheney isn’t because they’re out of power, it’s because they’re unpopular, something Matthews knows (or should know) better than anyone given his network’s obsession with trumpeting Limbaugh’s pronouncements as a foil to Obama.
Actually, the most interesting line from this interview came not from Matthews but from Ax himself during a rare moment when he was allowed to speak. Hengler’s got must-see video of that, too.

Rush has said many times that his main objective is to increase the size of his audience, not the general well-being of the USA. That’s why he doesn’t mind 30% approval ratings, as long as listener ratings are up.

I don’t hink they know what the word means. Everyone that the Dems have attacked have at their pol numbers go up! Rush had his listening audience explode. Cheeny climbed 8pts in the polls. Palin climbed as well. Newt i have not seen any poll numbers but they really have not attacked he compared to the others

But his ads are sold out for the year. I know you don’t care for Rush, that’s fine. The point is that this is an obvious diversion tactic that shouldn’t be necessary considering the popularity of the president. I think you will find that the general public will start doing the same thing his political opponents do, compliment him in some generalized way before disagreeing with him. I can almost guarantee that when there is a distinctive swing toward “Country is on wrong track” that Mr. Obama’s personal popularity will still be high. And I think you know why.

I googled “cheney sotomayor criticizes” and found squat, nada, nothing, zip. Somehow Matthews just can’t keep the ex-veep off his mind or out of his incessant chatter.
I listened twice to make sure I heard correctly and to save the rest of you from Matthews’ idiocy. Cheney didn’t utter a peep about Sonia. What a sorry excuse for even an MSNBC commentator!

This was the only quote I could find, and your point is being made by Michael Steele and he isn’t even making it on Limbaugh’s show — he’s doing it on CNN. The point is most definitely not being made by Rush Limbaugh — it’s being made in a clip of Steele aired by Limbaugh. So your statement that Limbaugh himself has stated what you claim falls short. You can prove I’m wrong by posting some quotes from Limbaugh himself which proves that, by his own lights, his entertainment value trumps the well being of the USA.
