Hmmm: Chrysler dealers shut down in Obama bankruptcy are mostly Republican?

I’m skeptical that this is as bad as it looks — it’d be politically suicidal, for no benefit greater than petty revenge — but consider it your must-read of the day. Don’t stop before the updates either or you’ll miss profitable dealers scratching their heads trying to figure out what mysterious sin they could have committed to warrant termination.
To quickly review the situation, I took all dealer owners whose names appeared more than once in the list. And, of those who contributed to political campaigns, every single one had donated almost exclusively to GOP candidates. While this isn’t an exhaustive review, it does have some ominous implications if it can be verified.
However, I also found additional research online at Scribd (author unknown), which also appears to point to a highly partisan decision-making process.
Could be that dealers, being entrepreneurs, trend heavily Republican anyway. Without some kind of control sample, there’s no way to judge if this is corrupt or just representative. Like Ross says, further research is required. Anyone think the media’s game?
But wait, you say, didn’t Chrysler decide to shut down the dealerships, not the feds? Well, funny thing about that. Via Reliapundit, Reuters gets an earful from the dealers’ lawyer:
Lawyer Leonard Bellavia, of Bellavia Gentile & Associates, who represents some of the terminated dealers, said he deposed Chrysler President Jim Press on Tuesday and came away with the impression that Press did not support the plan.
“It became clear to us that Chrysler does not see the wisdom of terminating 25 percent of its dealers,” Bellavia said. “It really wasn’t Chrysler’s decision. They are under enormous pressure from the President’s automotive task force.”
He added the government task force, which he criticized for having no members with retail experience was, in effect, attacking U.S. entrepreneurs…
“I think it’s unconstitutional,” said Jim Anderer, owner of Island Jeep in Lindenhurst, New York.
“The Fifth Amendment clearly states you cannot take another person’s property without due process or compensation. Even in eminent domain, there is an appraised price on the property being taken by the state.”
I don’t know. To believe this is true, you’d have to believe Obama applied some awfully heavy-handed pressure to get his way. And really, what are the odds of that?

Well, it took a while, but the country did eventually prosper again after the first Civil War. It was a violent and extremely ugly reconstruction period, but eventually the unbridled capitalism of our industrial age brought us back.
This time is different. Once the currency collapses under the weight of Obamanomics, and our largest energy-producing states like Texas and Alaska are forced to secede and form new independent capitalist republics with a few other like-minded states, the newly Balkanized NA continent will suffer anarchy for a very long time. Bloody, prolonged conflicts against and within the impoverished communist Obama blue states will eventually purge the land of their sickness, but sadly, none of us will live long enough to see liberty’s resurrection.
The collapse and dissolution of the greatest nation this earth has ever known – This will be the Obama legacy.

The Texas economy is stronger that most other states. i suspect the texas market sells a lot of vans to moms that didn’t abort and trucks to real men that work. Construction alone after the hurricanes was strong. This is not what Obama likes to hear. He may think he can control fuel economy by killing dealers that sell vehicles with larger engines.

Heh. Leave it to the liberals at Hotair to actually see nothing wrong with the idea that Obama is actually targeting businesses (successful ones) solely on political grounds. They think it’s swell, don’t you, Dave?
Instead, he calls it “treason” to be thinking of opposing The One. Well, now that dissent is no longer patriotic, as I recall Dave Rywall arguing before….
Come to think of it, George Washington, Ben Franklin, Jefferson–they were all traitors to the King too. Since Obama fancies himself higher than a King (he is The One, after all)–I’ll be happy to be counted with Washington, Jefferson and Franklin.
Is it treason to dissent from an absolute monarchy, Dave? Rather, is it wrong? I support America–the idea of America. Not Victor Hugo, Mussolini, or Adolf Hitler’s idea of a perfect state, which is what Obama is hell bent on building here. That’s not my country, and I refuse to support such an idea. You can, but liberals always were dumb. Especially ones who, like yourself, are in Canada yet care soooo much about American politics.

No. The Precedent hates America for the same reason that most others who are raised in Indonesia hate America. Then, he has the added hate that most marxists have for America, as he was taught by his commie mother and marxist, militant black “mentor”. If that wasn’t enough, he honed his hate while “seeking out Marxist professors” and hanging with domestic terrorists and hate-monger, moron preachers, not to mention the rest of the scum he spent his life with.

capejasmine on May 27, 2009 at 11:58 AM
What’s funny is that the “racial bias” cases that are brought because of the differences in stopping/arrests of blacks, etc. never take into account the percentage of crimes committed by those same groups.
The car dealer case will be proven without any doubt, in that the percentage of Republican owners let go is much higher than the percentage of Republican total dealers (and they were probably more profitable, too) but I just find it interesting how the left changes standards with every single case.
You people are just despicable, lying scum. You lend no value to the societies that you leech off of. You are nothing but costs to all around you and entropy raising machines.

I posted this curious coincidence on another forum last night. For fun I looked up Maine dealers closed and took the first and then hunted down the owners political contributions, not always easy, and found he had a long history of contributing to the Auto Dealers Pac, which gave over 66% to republicans in 2008. I then found the first Maine dealer on the list who kept his dealership and found he had contributed big to the local democrat US senate campaign and it looked like his extended family were big contributors to democrat causes…
Proof…nope, but interesting none the less.

I don’t understand this either.
Warranty work will still have to be done… just at less shops, so more customers waiting. The Warranty work to Chrysler will remain the same cost wise.
LESS cars will be sold, as you have LESS dealers competing with OTHER manufacturers dealers.
Dealers PAY Chrysler for the cars, and parts, needed to do business… and the DEALERS would be going bankrupt if the economics did not work out from their viewpoint…
Thus, its right back to how does closing DEALERs save Chrysler money? And especialy how does picking LESS succesful dealers for closing make any sense at all?
Romeo13 on May 27, 2009 at 12:36 PM
Here is the only thing that will make sense. Exisiting Chrysler & GM dealers that are not socialists should immediately dump all imventory and become
Toyota, Nissan or Honda dealers. Many already are and some are doing just this. Obama & the UAW cannot be trusted. Dry up he sales avenues and the UAW will start drying up. Of course Obama will try like hell to squash the foreign competition. This is an economic civil war.

1. A list of dealerships to be closed shows an alarmingly high % of Republicans on it.
2. You jerk your knee and decide this means they were targeted, without bothering to look at the entire population of dealerships to see if in fact, most dealerships are Republicans.
3. You don’t even bother to scrutinize the reasons why each dealership was closed.
3. #2 makes you a gun-jumping clown.

That never works. You bring the laggards up but they are still lazy & stupid.
All that does is destroy the will of the producers and they will be driven out to find greener pastures. The ones that were left behind were left behind because they did not have the will, desire or smarts to move forward. Pushing them to the front will not change that. Most of them will be terrified that now they will be expected to work. It will all crash around them and all you will have left is graft, corruption & greed among individuals of less than stellar quality.

As for Alaska…have you ever researched the costs of living in Alaska? It’s expensive….and that is Alaska asserting it’s states rights. The federal government is to have limited control, and most rights go to each individual state. So what Alaska does, or doesn’t do, doesn’t concern us here in Texas, nor should it concern any other state, or the Federal Government, and least of all it should NOT concern you.
As for complaining…so what? Why shouldn’t people complain, if they dont’ like what’s happening? This is an extreme radical, hell bent on the destruction of this country in power, and some of us don’t like it. If you don’t like it, I’m sure the daily kos, or Huffpo would just love you.
I can now, only imagine, that your support of this, is because you love socialism, and communism, or you love seeing the destruction of the United States of America.

If it isn’t investigated futher then the story won’t go anywhere and we will have just speculated on teh interwebs about whether it’s true or not and how likely it is. What’s the big deal? We still have freedom of speech in America.

Number of Chrysler dealerships in America: About 3200
Number of dealerships to be closed: 780+
Number of Republican donors on the crybaby list from the directorblue.blogspot.com link: 40
Chances one of you geniuses will make the effort to track the rest of the dealerships down and check their political contributions: ZERO.
Chances that one of you geniuses will make the effort to scrutinize Chrysler’s criteria for selecting dealerships for closure: ZERO.
The facts are out there but nobody will bother to find them because it requires effort.
Bye bye now.

According to a DEALER who I saw interviewed on Cavuto… they will not tell them WHY they are being closed.
The selection criteria for which dealers to keep is NOT based on who is succesful, as this dealer was the by far the best in his area…
Thus, there IS somthing strange going on…
If they will not release the selection criteria, then all you can do is INFER those criteria from which Dealers they keep, and which they shut down.
Smoke? Fire? not sure yet… but it sure looks strange… and its interesting how some wish to silence those who are asking these questions… as your dismissive attitude so clearly shows…

Of course, however, being that this is the new Huffington Post of the Republican Party – that is in fact all your post does.

Someone remind me again why the dealerships were closed in the first place? What business sense does it make?
gwelf on May 27, 2009 at 12:26 PM

You don’t have a fu*king clue why they have to close dealerships? Are you serious? Do you know anything about how business works?
Maybe you should put a sock in it for ten minutes and go read the news or something.

A government as strong arm who was elected is no better than a dictator. Hitler was elected as well. I’m not saying Obama is Hitler, but they shouldn’t look at American citizens as ‘enemies’.
Actually, Hitler only got around 36% of the vote and lost. Papin had Hindenburg APPOINT Hitler as chancellor.

Hmm. Very interesting. Now it makes some sense.
There are three Chrysler dealers in the area I live.
Dealer #1:
Large dealership centrally located in a high traffic area in the middle of the metropolitan area where I live. Used to have very high CSI scores. Probably still do. Father of the current owner was former National President of NADA back in the early 1980’s.
Dealer #2:
Large dealership centrally located in a high traffic area in the middle of the metropolitan area where I live. Megadealership, well known throughout area, well-capitalized.
Dealer #3
Smaller dealership located on fringe of metropolitan area, about 20 miles from the center of population in a low traffic area. Owner now under indictment for murdering his wife in a well-publicized case. (Yes, really). Had built up a lot of ill-will in his immediate community even before that. However his family is prominent in the local Democratic Party-his Aunt is a former Democratic politican, and now serves in a Democratic City administration. Uncle is a prominent Democratic lawyer in the area.
Guess which two dealerships are slated to close, and which one is staying open. Yeah, you got it, it’s Number 3 that is staying open. Numbers 1 and 2 are closing.
Now it makes sense.

So you’re fine with Alaska sharing the wealth with its citizens. Which is by your definition, socialist.
No wait, you don’t have an opinion on it because it’s something that’s happening in another state.
AMAZING

Please, with your great business acumen, show how closing dealerships, which are FRANCHISES and not owned by Chrysler, saves CHRYSLER any money?
They are cutting their salesforce… a salesforce THEY DON”T EVEN PAY FOR!

Maybe you should heed some of your own advice dear.
If these businesses were already successful, bringing in billions in revenue, which means they were paying more, in taxes….and closed. What sense does that make? I am researching this, as I type. It looks suspicious as it stands right now. Taking successful businesses such as these, and hurting minorities in the process…then to turn and let dealers, who just happen to support the democratic party, reeks of corruption.
As I said…you have a right to your opinion, but it carries now weight, or validity here.

I never tried to silence anybody.
I say investigate the sh1t out of this.
I’m just saying that none of you are willing to do the legwork to get the facts.
It’s pretty obvious why they’re closing dealerships. It’s not rocket science.
Dave Rywall on May 27, 2009 at 1:19 PM
If Crysler owns some dealerships, then the other dealers who sell their cars are competitors. As they expect to sell less cars now, they would naturally want to cut competing dealers off to increase the value of their own dealerships.
Though, the correct response would probably be to sell off all the dealerships they own, instead, as a way to raise capitol.

Since you’re clearly a statist, and don’t understand states rights….your opinion means squat.

The ignorance you wallow in, is most entertaining.
capejasmine on May 27, 2009 at 1:29 PM
Then please explain… becaue it makes no sense to me.
The dealerships are FRANCHISES. They buy cars, and parts, and do maintenance. They only make money when they sell cars, or fix cars.
IF THEY were not making money, they would go out of business… basic capitalism.
However, X number of cars are sold by Chrylser… and are fixed under warranty… if those numbers are stagnant, then the cost to Chrysler remains constant… it just is split amongst more franchise dealerships.
Its also basic Capitalism that cutting a sales force, which costs you NOTHING (its funded by the franchises themselves) will CUT your sales.
Now, if as I infer, Chrysler is going to cut production to the point where they cannot support a large number of Dealerships… then to me it would make more sense to cut down the amount of cars sitting AT each dealership… more outlets, with less inventory… and the ability to quickly ship in a Car (which they do now anyhow).
Its like Chrysler is making Spagheti sauce… and they are not making enough money… so they are going to cut the amount of Supermarkets they put their sauce into… does not make sense to me…
You keep making the assertion that this will save Chrysler money… and that we are dumb for not understanding how… and yet won’t explain…
Romeo13 on May 27, 2009 at 1:32 PM
You do realize how dealerships work? That the VAST majority are not owned by Chrysler? They are seperate companies? That Chrysler does NOT pay the wages of the employees at those dealerships?

Here’s a FACT for all you HA bloggers. Mr. Rywall has no objection to his canadian (note lower case) tax dollars being spent on a cameraman to video a man getting a ball wax. His blog entry follows:
As usual, Dave, you think the point is whether this is child pornography, as do your fellow canadians, when the REAL issue should be about how to spend your tax dollars. Go home TROLL. If you can’t run with the Big Dogs, stay on the porch!
