Hmmm: Chrysler dealers shut down in Obama bankruptcy are mostly Republican?
posted at 9:46 pm on May 26, 2009 by Allahpundit
I’m skeptical that this is as bad as it looks — it’d be politically suicidal, for no benefit greater than petty revenge — but consider it your must-read of the day. Don’t stop before the updates either or you’ll miss profitable dealers scratching their heads trying to figure out what mysterious sin they could have committed to warrant termination.
To quickly review the situation, I took all dealer owners whose names appeared more than once in the list. And, of those who contributed to political campaigns, every single one had donated almost exclusively to GOP candidates. While this isn’t an exhaustive review, it does have some ominous implications if it can be verified.
However, I also found additional research online at Scribd (author unknown), which also appears to point to a highly partisan decision-making process.
Could be that dealers, being entrepreneurs, trend heavily Republican anyway. Without some kind of control sample, there’s no way to judge if this is corrupt or just representative. Like Ross says, further research is required. Anyone think the media’s game?
But wait, you say, didn’t Chrysler decide to shut down the dealerships, not the feds? Well, funny thing about that. Via Reliapundit, Reuters gets an earful from the dealers’ lawyer:
Lawyer Leonard Bellavia, of Bellavia Gentile & Associates, who represents some of the terminated dealers, said he deposed Chrysler President Jim Press on Tuesday and came away with the impression that Press did not support the plan.
“It became clear to us that Chrysler does not see the wisdom of terminating 25 percent of its dealers,” Bellavia said. “It really wasn’t Chrysler’s decision. They are under enormous pressure from the President’s automotive task force.”
He added the government task force, which he criticized for having no members with retail experience was, in effect, attacking U.S. entrepreneurs…
“I think it’s unconstitutional,” said Jim Anderer, owner of Island Jeep in Lindenhurst, New York.
“The Fifth Amendment clearly states you cannot take another person’s property without due process or compensation. Even in eminent domain, there is an appraised price on the property being taken by the state.”
I don’t know. To believe this is true, you’d have to believe Obama applied some awfully heavy-handed pressure to get his way. And really, what are the odds of that?

If they can produce good evidence of political bias in court, that may help their case, under equal protection, regardless of how TARP is written.
But even if they can demonstrate political bias, will the public find out? So far, the MSM continues to be a fairly solid wall protecting Obama from all errors.
Part of me thinks this can’t be happening because it is too narcissistic, immature, and Chicago thug-like. Then, I remember who the president is.
Loxodonta on May 26, 2009 at 10:31 PM
Suppose he is challenged about this? You KNOW what he’ll do. He’ll call a press conference and say that he is calling for an investigation into the matter. Then a few years later people will have forgotten about it because of the 500 other outrageous things he’s done between now and then will have pushed it out of their minds.
It’s standard “Rules for Radicals” strategy.

My guess is when unemployment hasn’t improved for too many months. I think the economy is simply in a holding pattern, and Obama doesn’t have enough resources for endless handouts. For a while, he may be able to buy off certain constituencies. But sooner or later, that little boy is going to step up to the plate–maybe a year’s worth or two of unemployed college grads–to say that the emperor has no clothes.

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that my state (Indiana) has decided to no longer buy bonds from companies that have received help from the Feds, because of what happened.

What’s the downside of thuggery like this if the media ignores it and/or the masses are too blissfully ignorant to care?
When the dollar and dollar-denominated gov’t handouts are worthless, the people will care. And it may be too late.

I can’t remember if it was Rush or Glenn Beck that had a dealer on about a week ago that said from his own personal assessment of other dealers he knew of that had been shut down, almost all were Republican- including himself.
If this is true, Obama needs to be dipped in hot oil for it.

WTF is happening in America? This is America people, the country I read about in Ayn Rand’s novels, the country of Jefferson, Lincoln and Reagan and countless other brilliant minds. Why are you allowing this to happen? Its not Zimbabwe or Venezuela. It’s not a third world country no matter how much the lefties spin it. It’s America. Fight for it , you fools. Don’t let it go. If America goes down, freedom goes down. Read the Declaration of Independence, the part about any government becoming destructive of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness and what the people are allowed to do about it.

This will stay big only because almost everyone you all know, knows a dealer or dealership, neighbor, family or friend who is involved.
If this pans out, I can now say he is NOT my president.
Obama is out to destroy half this country.
when in the history of this country have we had a leader who set out to destroy half the country he is suppose to protect?
This will be his undoing!

No offense to Ed and Allah, but I think Beck covering something spreads word a lot better than HotAir. Especially in the example you cite. O’Reilly doesn’t usually get down in to this sort of thing too much, but Beck turned him on to ACORN and he’s going full bore. Biggest show in cable news.
Beck has millions of viewers and listeners, and he’s now part of the mainstream media. More importantly, he’s the only one in the mainstream media who would push the story. You’ve got to start somewhere.
Look, I’ve pretty much given up the country because I see no way of recovering from this debt, especially when the people in charge are deliberately bankrupting us so that they can transform the country in to something it never was. These are just “stupid” policies folks, these are people who love power and believe we should seek them out to fulfill our every need, and for that, we’ll need to all be poor, yet taxed to the max. Again, this isn’t stupidity on their part, they know full well what they’re doing.
Anyway, got a little side tracked… my point was, I’ve pretty much given back on this country ever recovering, but things like this still get my blood boiling enough to want word to spread.

Sue. Sue! SUE!
This has got to get into the court system. Are there enough dealers to constitute a “class?” Nothing like a nice class-action law suit to make great fund-raising copy, and get/keep the subject in the news. We’ve got to hit this quick before the Supreme Court gets Obamafied. We’ve got a window of opportunity with this clown, and if we don’t take advantage, long about 2012, he’ll be declaring himself president for life, as they abolish term limits.

I fail to see how, after he’s overtly rewarded his political allies by short circuiting contract law and bankruptcy law, he would blink at doing something equally political in nature. And he enjoys more plausible deniability in pulling this off than he did when he favored the UAW over the creditors.

Well, the price of oil is creeping up again, and while that will be good news for Obama’s propaganda campaign, that we need to revamp our energy policy, it will be tough on the wallets of Americans. If we start getting a taste of the inflation that is on the way due to the feverish money printing going on, plus the onset of a cold (yes that’s right) winter and higher heating bills–by spring next year I think the bloom will be officially off the rose.
Once public opinion starts to swing towards skepticism, some in the media will realize that there are ratings to be had by tearing the cover off Obama. The first ones to do this will be greeted with the same kind of ratings and buzz Fox enjoyed–nothing like serving a long-ignored constituency to generate success.
The money, the economy, is going to catch up with him in the end. Our parents and grandparents who sucked it up and feared nothing but fear itself during the depression have long since been replaced by “what have you done for me lately–I wanted it yesterday” brats. For all the secession fans; do you really think that the US would leave bases, federal facilities, etc. in a state that seceded? In a place like Texas that would drain the economy fatally. There are only so many “I support the secession” belt buckles that fellow New republic citizens will buy.
Government wouldn’t have to send in one troop — simply pull out all the ones already there.

Our government has checks and balances. However, we have a Dem for executive, Dems in control of the legislative, and we are about to have 2-3 new supreme court picks, not to mention a host of lower level judicial appointments that will suddenly sail through. The media can be a check, but well, you know. Self restraint and a respect for tradition probably stopped government in the past, but I would not count on that this time. The people will get a chance in 2 years, if and only if all that nice power is not wielded against us (ACORN, gerrymandering, media, another convenient crisis, gift card monetary donations, etc).
To all you who say the dealers will take this to court, I present exhibit A: the Chrysler senior debt holders who caved after threats from the whitehouse. Exhibit B: financial executives working for nothing but bonuses having the public driven into a frenzy and congress rewriting laws to steal their bonuses after the fact. Shall we count the subtle weapons the government has? Eminent Domain, IRS audits, ACORN activist, compliant media tarnishing, traffic tickets, tanning beds/ lack of plumbing licenses, any minor technical illegality (downloaded any music), etc. The hassle factor alone will make all but the strongest cave.

Strongest argument that Obama is NOT Muslim: That would require that he believe that there is a higher power than himself. The facts overwhelmingly indicate otherwise.

Remember some of the other similar demagogues of the past century were also neither muslim nor Christian. Several of them tended more toward the occult — not surprising since the basic tenet of the occult is its use to acquire more power for the user.
