Quote of the day
posted at 10:00 pm on May 23, 2009 by Allahpundit
“I thought it was reprehensible, irresponsible and unpersuasive. If we’re going to regain the credibility of the American people, we’re going to have to stop with silly antics like that. It may get a snide chuckle inside the Beltway, but it offends most people. We have to get away from the politics of personal destruction.”

Oh, come on. You think there wouldn’t be this massive outcry of “SEXISM!!” from Palin supporters, regardless of the content of the ad? Please.
This is a self-inflicted wound by the DNC. There were a thousand different ways to go after Pelosi. Doing it this way completely detracts from the message.
SnarkVader on May 23, 2009 at 11:24 PM
Sorry, self-inflicted by the RNC.
SnarkVader on May 23, 2009 at 11:24 PM
Normally, she takes what I would call a traditional liberal line, sort of JFKish. This would mean there are at least a few areas of overlap with current conservatism-libertarianism. She is no Obama supporter.
Today’s thread was the first time I observed troll-like behavior on her part. So, maybe my take on her is wrong, or maybe she just got peeved.

Do you really not see the difference between a shitty entertainer and the RNC?

Upstater85 on May 23, 2009 at 11:22 PM
Heard about the soda tax proposal? Supposedly to help fund healtcare, and discourage obesity.
cs89 on May 23, 2009 at 11:26 PM
She’s got her priorities and she’s sticking with them!
Loxodonta on May 23, 2009 at 11:26 PM
After six months of some pretty vile anti-Palin garbage, I wouldn’t even notice it. That’s what overkill does.
ddrintn on May 23, 2009 at 11:27 PM
More significantly, I don’t see what this has to do with this RNC ad, which does not depict Nancy Pelosi as a Bond girl. It takes more than showing a woman as the James Bond theme plays to make someone a Bond girl.
You can make a better argument that the ad depicts her as James Bond than as a Bond girl. It would still be a dumb argument, but there’s some actual circumstantial evidence for that, at least.
Kensington on May 23, 2009 at 11:27 PM
Time to stock up.
Cindy Munford on May 23, 2009 at 11:28 PM
How asinine. I’m fat, and I drink diet soda. Thin people drink the sugared stuff, not fat people.
Kensington on May 23, 2009 at 11:29 PM
LOL…the possibilities in that sentence are terrific.
The thing is, though, the DNC knows it can count on shitty entertainers to do its dirty work. The RNC can’t.

Don’t the military sleep in less than ideal conditions at times? Doesn’t seem to affect their mental discipline…
In other words, I think this is a silly tack to take. Dude can save a few bucks by sleeping in his office if he wants to, probably a bit of a publicity stunt as well. Critique him for his votes and statements, but this topic of discussion is, again, silly.
cs89 on May 23, 2009 at 11:30 PM
I’m fine sleeping in a comfortable bed, thank you. I’m not going to sneer on him for doing this – even if it’s only symbolic.
Tell, that to my office mates… but then again, they are prisoners to their work…
Well, they do need what’s in arugula, but yes, no one NEEDS arugula. That said, when we are all at the Camps, I don’t think we are going to NEED our King Sized Beds. It’s a luxury. A common luxury, but a luxury none-the-less.
Upstater85 on May 23, 2009 at 11:30 PM
the gov’t is ridiculous with all its regulation
im working at a new wine and spirits store (just opened today)
the rules are MORONIC!
so many RULES!!!!
you can have wine tasting in the store, but only if someone who reps a winery is there doing it
you cant sell beer with the wine and spirits
you cant do this, you cant do that, but you can do this, but only on that day and in the morning and when barack obama likes the way his coffee was made on a thursday afternoon.
ridiculous
blatantblue on May 23, 2009 at 11:30 PM
Uh…
Well, the RNC isn’t very entertaining, but I suppose there is a difference.
Upstater85 on May 23, 2009 at 11:31 PM
Yeah, I’m not sure the DNC could come up with something if they even tried. I mean, what are they going to do to top pornos and bad music videos?
Suck it up people and get to the real root of the problem here, which is 99% Pelosi and 1% possible innuendo.
eforhan on May 23, 2009 at 11:33 PM
Here’s the REALLY illogical part of it. If it is a major source of funds for Obamacare, then they are banking on you being UNHEALTHY by buying these items so that they can fund your healthcare. That is INSANE!
Upstater85 on May 23, 2009 at 11:34 PM
Because they have to sometimes. The military doesn’t encourage it when it’s not necessary. Regardless, our soldiers rarely get things as good as they deserve. That doesn’t mean it’s okay.
The veterans frequently get lousy care in the VA hospitals. That doesn’t make it a good idea.
If it’s silly it’s only because he’s putting it forth as something positive. It’s not positive. It’s dopey, and based on his statement — it shows.

Loxodonta on May 23, 2009 at 11:37 PM
It’s so moronic.
The laws are INSANE.
And the NYC libs wonder why they are so when they come into the store.
WTF, idiot.
blatantblue on May 23, 2009 at 11:38 PM
It doesn’t have to be an “either-or” situation between a cot one the one hand and a bed of kittens on the other. It can just be a decent, comfortable place to sleep. We spend 1/3 of our lives in bed; it should be a decent bed.
If the guy wants to brag about brown-bagging it, I’m with him. If he grinds his own coffee, terrific. If he’s sharing a place with roommates to keep the rent down, mazel tov!
But sleeping on a cot in the office? That’s moronic.
Kensington on May 23, 2009 at 11:38 PM
OK, I’m assuming that all illegal hookers will also be getting Obamacare. Will Obama be taxing their revenue because hooking clearly is a health risk?
Upstater85 on May 23, 2009 at 11:39 PM

Upstater85 on May 23, 2009 at 11:41 PM
Eh, clearly it’s the Repub’s fault… /s
Upstater85 on May 23, 2009 at 11:43 PM
Guilty. I wonder what most soldiers would prefer: a cot or a comfy bed?
I know which one they deserve, at least, and which one’s better for a person.
Kensington on May 23, 2009 at 11:43 PM
It’ is foolish to plan on financing a new program on “sin taxes” since people can manipulate them so the revenue can’t be counted as consistent. As I mentioned in another thread people are still conserving on gas usage even after the price went down. They will do the same with these non-essentials or find an Indian reservation to make bulk purchases.
Cindy Munford on May 23, 2009 at 11:43 PM
*shudder*
Kensington on May 23, 2009 at 11:45 PM
OK, so which one’s better for a person… Arugula or Iceberg Lettuce? I honestly don’t know, but I’m leaning towards Arugula. We couldn’t even feed Iceberg to our rabbits, if you know what I’m inferring.

Kensington on May 23, 2009 at 11:48 PM
There were complaints that statements about Palin were untrue, or that they were hateful (I’m not crazy about the video linked here, either, btw). There were complaints that her children were attacked in unconscionable ways. There were complaints that she was held to a higher standard than any of the other four (witness the teams of reporters scouring Wasilla & Anchorage, but not Chicago, for dirt on Palin vs. Obama).
But the closest I saw to a claim of “sexism” was that supposed feminists would fail to acknowledge that she had achieved what they all said they supported: a career standing on her own two feet, while raising a family, with a husband who was supportive of her in every way. But here the complaint was definitely not sexism, but hypocrisy.
Politicians are supposed to be tough enough to take all kinds of criticism, much of which will invariably be unfair. Pelosi has been called a hag? McCain & Cheney have been called geezers. Pelosi was called a b!tch? Every male politician since the dawn of the republic has been called a bast@rd. “P#ssy Galore” is grotesquely sexual (especially for Pelosi — brrrggh)? How about all the George “Bush” and “Dick” Cheney jokes (not told by the DNC, to be sure, but howled at by plenty of elected officials and Presidential candidates).
This is a case of either feigned outrage or some sure-enough hypocritical namby-pamby wimps. But while Dems do tend to be cowardly, dishonesty is their main skill, so I’m going with ‘feigned outrage’.
RegularJoe on May 23, 2009 at 11:48 PM

This guy is anything but a rino! He will not ask for pork, doesn’t believe in it. Lives in his office because his family is still in school in Utah. He is an up and comer. He would be the last one to support mccain.
I will not watch anything on madame deforche(?) but he is right in one sense – all anyone would have to do is show all of her lies and statements run together. I would not compare her to anyone on Goldfinger. She has finally shown she has the IQ and the ethics of a slug.

I hate people who just say “Hi.” I hate it — makes me uncomfortable. I don’t feel safe about people like that. What if some murderer walked into rob the place and shoot anyone? Think they’ll stand up and do something?
I’ll place my bets with the guy who walks in and says: “hey how all you guys doin??1?1?”
