Quote of the day
posted at 10:00 pm on May 23, 2009 by Allahpundit
“I thought it was reprehensible, irresponsible and unpersuasive. If we’re going to regain the credibility of the American people, we’re going to have to stop with silly antics like that. It may get a snide chuckle inside the Beltway, but it offends most people. We have to get away from the politics of personal destruction.”

Maybe I need to go look at it again because this seems like much ado about nothing. I obviously missed something.

Fine someone tell that to Keith Olnbermann, Michael Moore, and every other leftie hater
William Amos on May 23, 2009 at 10:03 PM
Oh cry me a river. What a bunch of candy-asses we’ve got on our team.
Kensington on May 23, 2009 at 10:05 PM
If you missed anything, it’s probably just the incessant need for gulys like this to seize any opportunity to earn some MSM cred. John McCain: The Next Generation. Who needs it?
Kensington on May 23, 2009 at 10:07 PM
Okay, I went back and watched it again. Exactly what part is it that is causing the uproar? I think it’s kind of dumb. Is it the part where they have her face fixed at the end of the gun barrel? My only complaint is that seems like a waste of money but since I haven’t donated lately, it’s not my call.
Cindy Munford on May 23, 2009 at 10:08 PM
It’s not a particularly clever ad, and the James Bond stuff ads nothing, but the hand-wringing over it is just ridiculous.

Amen! How dare they do that – what an insult to Honor Blackman, and to lesbian pilot-villainesses everywhere!
There is no reason to be offended for Pelosi by this ad. It isn’t even mean. In fact, that’s my main problem with it: it tries too hard and ends up doing nothing.
emailnuevo on May 23, 2009 at 10:11 PM
Seriously. The only things he should be calling reprehensible, irresponsible and unpersuasive are Pelosi’s lies about the CIA.
What a fool.

Nancy Pelosi, Shaken, not Stirred.
If the gun site fits the target, then it’s appropriate.
I find nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious.
Liberals have done far worse, and if it wasn’t made an issue, I would have never made the connection.
So, I laugh, I laugh out loud. And I snicker.

Here’s a reach. Maybe he is acting disgusted because he really thinks it is an awesome ad and the outrage will get it more publicity. No, never mind, it’s that weak and Republican in Congress are that dumb. I am with you on the unpersuasive part of his hissy fit.

Man, I’m so sick to f@#$ing death of the hypocrisy; none of those a$$hats had a f@#%ing word to say when the MSM and Dems were castigating Palin *and* her daughter in the most vile and sexist of ways. Oh, *now* they’re champions of gender with this impossibly thin connection to a James Bond character of questionable name? Not incensed by, you know, actual name-calling and denigration on gender basis for Palin, but *this* pisses them off?
And this idiot congressperson – who the f@#$ is he? Heaven save us from such fools.

So, MoveOn.org only implied that Petraeus was disloyal when they outright said, “General Betray Us,” according to Politico.
But, the RNC is “reprehensible, irresponsible and unpersuasive” for using James Bond imagery in an ad about Pelosi, to a Republican Representative.
Wow.
Loxodonta on May 23, 2009 at 10:24 PM
That’s my GOP. Pelosi blatantly lies about the CIA, and our “up-and-comers” speed dial Politico to trash talk our criticism of her.

Kensington on May 23, 2009 at 10:35 PM
Hey, even if it’s symbolic, I think we need to give him some credit (given that everyone else in congress isn’t taking his advice…)
“I’m trying to live the example that it doesn’t take big dollars in order to get where we want to go. I can save my family $1,500 a month by sleeping on a cot in my office as opposed to getting a fancy place that’s maybe a little bit more comfortable.”
“We are now $10 trillion in debt. $10 trillion. Those are expenses that have to be paid at some point,” he said. If he can tighten his belt in these tough economic times, Chaffetz said, Congress should be able to as well.
Upstater85 on May 23, 2009 at 10:37 PM

Chaffetz is entitled to his opinion. He can be wrong if he wants to (heh).
I’m glad he knocked Cannon out against overwhelming odds, and like a lot of what I hear from him. This, I disagree with him on.
I think it would be jumping the gun to call him a “RINO” over this. Have to keep watching, and see how he develops his young career before forming a solid opinion of him.
On the topic of the ad- didn’t see anything outrageous, still think it’s much ado about nothing. The media and Dems are trying to build a meme to help protect Pelosi.
Why are so many here helping them?
cs89 on May 23, 2009 at 10:40 PM
I can’t give credit for a stupid idea, and deliberately not providing yourself with a decent place to sleep and a good bed, especially when you can afford it, is not smart.
A person can’t function at their best if they don’t sleep properly, and this guy clearly has no wiggle room on thinking clearly.

Seriously, I could understand the outrage if it was an Ann Coulter riff that was so heated that even the rightest of right wingers are embarassed that they laughed. I can’t even be impressed with ingenuity of this stupid clip. And yet here it is the subject of the “Quote of the Day”. Really?

franksalterego on May 23, 2009 at 10:51 PM
I think the idea here with the tie-in to Bond was the tie-in of the story to our own country’s spy agency, the CIA. With that in mind, the ad sort of works. Would probably been better to leave off the “Democrats Galore” at the end and go with some other Bond villain tie-in. Octo—, no scratch that, but definitely a different tie-in of the Dems to the bond villains.
AZfederalist on May 23, 2009 at 10:52 PM
Oh my goodness. Sarah, I am SO sorry. Yes, I definitely meant Palin.
/good heavens, that’s gonna cost some political karma.

I know you do. Borrow the DVD’s from your library.
It would be most helpful if we could focus on the incredible lies and hypocrisy of Pelosi and the Democrats. But now, we have to deal with their incredibly hyped up outrage, and Republican pandering as well.
Loxodonta on May 23, 2009 at 10:54 PM
Funny how the same people who got SO worked up about “lipstick on a pig” can’t possibly fathom how this might be offensive or a bad idea.
SnarkVader on May 23, 2009 at 10:56 PM
It’s a bit of an overreach, to get to “Pu$$y Galore” from that, isn’t it?

Maybe AP has a hot date? It’s a Saturday night on a holiday weekend and here we sit……….
I say, let’s hijack this thread again.
Who’s got the beer? Where is Lox or Blatentblue to liven up the place? Where is our newest, busted troll AnneinCA?
Knucklehead on May 23, 2009 at 10:58 PM
I think I understood the intent.
CIA = spies (hmmmm… Who’s a famous spy? Bond!)
I can see it working for some viewers, but not for most. And the most powerful point we have to make about Pelosi IS HER OWN WORDS, especially compared to Panetta’s.
Loxodonta on May 23, 2009 at 10:59 PM
The thing is, no matter what approach the Republicans use, it’s going to generate hyped up outrage and Republican pandering. We have reached the point where simply disagreeing on policy is a “deeply hurtful, personal attack” and probably either racist or sexist to boot.
So I don’t get that worked up over stuff like this. The only thing we should be measuring is effectiveness and we’ve got a little time between now and next year to see what works and what doesn’t. No matter what is tried, it will tweak the statists and the dems and our side will always have those sensitive wimps who will immediately renounce their own and call for complete capitulation — for you Obama voters, that’s a big word for rolling over and wetting oneself.
AZfederalist on May 23, 2009 at 10:59 PM
Do the republicans even remember the lies and garbage spewed by Pelosi against GWB, the military, and other fellow republicans? Get over yourself Chaffetz.
jencab on May 23, 2009 at 11:00 PM
It was a good way to draw people in. This is a manufactured outrage by people who’d rather us argue about the finer parts of an ad than Pelosi lying.

mountaineer for liberty on May 23, 2009 at 11:02 PM
I can’t speak for everyone who was unhappy with that comment, but for me it was all about the hypocrisy of the left — “It’s okay for me, but not for thee.” But then, it was never about being honest for liberals — it was always about winning.

Run an ad of just Pelosi’s various claims, Panetta’s statement, then ask, “Who’s telling the truth?”
Let them hang themselves, instead of getting us hung up by their gender politics.
I am very sensitive to all forms of bigotry. I’m about as outraged by the sexism in this ad as I am by a cat taking a nap.
Loxodonta on May 23, 2009 at 11:08 PM
So isn’t the reverse true here? If the DNC released an ad with Palin as a Bond girl, the Palinatti would go completely insane.
SnarkVader on May 23, 2009 at 11:10 PM
Well if Allah has a date then it would be worth it. Did you go to the thread that actually has the clip? Apparently Allah took two hours of crap over it. Please. While it’s not the DNC, there is that “Nailin” stuff floating around out there, Andi Sullivan’s nonsense did get some mainstream mileage, etc.
I suspect Palin has a thick enough skin, and a sense of humor, to throw it right back in their face.
As to the outrage, I’m reminded of a Fredism from the debates- If you’re drawing flak, you must be over the target. GOP, improve your aim and refine your message as needed, but for God’s sake keep hitting Pelosi. She’s vulnerable, and the media/DNC know it.
cs89 on May 23, 2009 at 11:18 PM

I looked at it early this morning, thought the clip was stupid, posted that it was stupid, shut the computer off, spent the afternoon finishing a really good book on the patio, in the sunshine, only to come back in, turn on the computer, log in here to see the same crap I saw earlier.
But this is a little tidbit I just found.
Beer tax on tap for health care?
WASHINGTON (AP) — Consumers in the United States may have to hand over nearly $2 more for a case of beer to help provide health insurance for all.
Details of the proposed beer tax are described in a Senate Finance Committee document that will be used to brief lawmakers Wednesday at a closed-door meeting.
Taxes on wine and hard liquor would also go up. And there might be a new tax on soda and other sugary drinks blamed for contributing to obesity. No taxes on diet drinks, however.
Beer taxes would go up by 48 cents a six-pack, wine taxes would rise by 49 cents per bottle, and the tax on hard liquor would increase by 40 cents per fifth. Proceeds from the new taxes would help cover an estimated 50 million uninsured Americans.
The comments over there are pretty funny too. Looks like a lot of buyers remorse when it comes to messing with the folks and their booze.

Tell you what: get yourself a cot and sleep on it for a few weeks. Then come back and tell us how great you’re doing.
There’s a reason most people don’t sleep on cots. Prisoners don’t even sleep on cots.
On the other hand, most people don’t need arugula.
These things are not on the same plain.
