Obama: Hey, we’re out of money

Via Breitbart, an important newsflash from The One in case you hadn’t heard that we’re running trillion-dollar deficits these days. See if you can balance the nuance of his point about Medicaid and Medicare being completely unsustainable long-term with his burning desire to nationalize most of the country’s heath-care industry.
Update: Drudge has a transcript.

I give her a 36. The letter grades don’t come close to detailing her cluelessness.
progressoverpeace on May 23, 2009 at 1:46 PM
Well, duh.
They both did. They wanted the same thing, nationalization of hospitals. Free health care. Hillary was just trying to sound more moderate on it.
It is the socialization of medical treatment that shut those hospitals down. Expect more closings under Obama.

Fine with me. I really don’t even really even get snark attackers.
It’s just so crude, I guess, to me.
But you should post and have fun. And do so without a cinch of guilt, since I would never let someone like you have a smidge of power over my own reactions.
So enjoy and feel potent.
I suspect this is where you get to experience this. :)

I don’t think you grasp how much Democrats HATE the small businessman.
Rae on May 23, 2009 at 1:47 PM
That’s right. No discussion with a person who screams “the only way to fix the economy is socialized medicine” and then says that the Constitution requires us to pay for everyone’s healthcare. You have exposed yourself fully today as just another Axelrod mouthpiece. Your claims that you voted for McCain are nothing more than a ruse.
And then further digs a hole by claiming Hillary care is the only answer from someone who obviously has no idea how bad her plan was. If it was so great, why did it fail so miserably?

Bambi can’t be out of money. There’s always next month’s welfare check taken from The Man supposed to magically appear in the mail box.
viking01 on May 23, 2009 at 1:50 PM
Maybe I’ve missed something here. When I read the Costitution I got the idea the government had certain responsibilities:
1) Establish justice (enforce the law)
2) Ensure domestic tranquility
3) Provide for the common defense
4) Promote the general welfare (didn’t read that as welfare to those who don’t work or healthcare from cradle to grave)
5) Secure the blessings of liberty (keep the government out of our lives)
I don’t see universal healthcare or trying to save the planet in there anywhere. I’m sure someone can enlighten me. Ann???
Les in NC on May 23, 2009 at 1:51 PM
OK, but we’ve had 7 major medical centers close in LA. It’s so not due to anything but private insurance issues.
But if you need to see more, I’m personally game.
I’ve decided that’s what it will take. You’re going to have to step over dying people on the sidewalk to change.
In the meantime, you really think your insurance police protects you like crazy.
I am guessing that you’re in denial big-time.

Its a matter of reestablishing the fetters on government. It seems to be entropic in nature, with those limitations only established at the outset, and eroding over time.

How long have you been commenting at HA? Seems only the last couple of weeks.

But the last open registration was a few months ago. Where you not interested in politics after registering? Is that why you waited to get involved here?
You mention Kos and HuffPo often. You sound familiar with those sites.
What screenname do you use there? You must have encountered lots of people there that were pro-Obama. I’m sure you couldn’t control yourself since you are supposedly so anti-Obama.
As a friend of yours, I’d like to read your postings at other sites, because I don’t want to misunderstand you.

“With respect to the words general welfare, I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.”

progressoverpeace on May 23, 2009 at 1:53 PM
Yes. In the long run, emergency treatments are far more expensive than preventative care. The issue is how to provide for preventative care. First, we’re out of money, so that cannot be ignored. Every dollar spent today for preventive care must be saved elsewhere, today. Second, if we remove all negative consequences for poor decision making, how does that improve decision making skills?
Compassion doesn’t work without pragmatism and personal responsibility. We need all three in play for any effective solutions to our health care problems.
Loxodonta on May 23, 2009 at 1:53 PM
P.S. Those of you thinking you’ve got “great” policies?”
You better rethink.

‘Ann, have you ever lived under a nationalized healthcare system?’
A simple answer to that might raise her grade to an F+.

Nearly everything you’ve said here, the denial business, the India crap and stepping over dead bodies (why not children, the effect would have been better) you’ve said before.

Every issue of Obama’s to fundamentally change the character of one of our American institutions is fought for by them here on the blogs. There’s no Ann. He/she/it is paid to infiltrate these conversations and press talking points, and steer the conversation towards pre-approved ends.
Today, private health insurance is the culprit that will kill us all if we don’t do what St. Barry says immediately.
Repudiate this Stasi agent of Obamas. It’s frightening how his secret police act as agents provocateurs to stir up dissent.

Is there any truth to the claim that medical procedures were significantly cheaper prior to substantial government regulation and policy intervention? I am looking around now, but I seem to remember hearing that surgery was something you used to be able to pay for out of pocket about 70-80 years ago. I’ll post back if I find something reliable…mostly because it completely derails this “government is the solution to healthcare” BS.

TALKING POINTS
JiangxiDad on May 23, 2009 at 2:02 PM
Honestly, here’s my political position.
I knew we elected a weak healthcare president.
I do not think Obama will get much passed in this arena.
I think it’s a terrible mistake on domestic policy.
But done is done.
He never was about this.
My personal opinion? Oh boy, you guys have missed the boat. It is the key factor holding back private business.
AnninCA on May 23, 2009 at 2:03 PM
So you would help a dying person in India but you are okay with abortion? I guess i am okay with stepping over the dying person to save a baby.
akerralls on May 23, 2009 at 2:03 PM
My experience with freebies is that nobody values anything that they get free. We’re seeing this with 50% of taxpayers falling off income tax rolls.
If enough people aren’t paying for health in a system in which they are told by Obama that they have an entitlement to it, we will have a train wreck.
I hope the GOP’s largely free-market solutions are communiciated to voters.
AnninCA: the only thing I agree with you about is that I’d like to see health-care divorced from employment. It would help with portability. I disagree with your criticism with individual plans–there are few products because there’s no market. The GOP idea of providing a substantial credit to acquire insurance is a good idea. That would put employees and self-employeds on par. I don’t know if the GOP is requiring it, but I think I’d favor a national requirement to show proof of some level of catastrophic insurance. Why not? States have these for auto insurance. Sure, that involves liabiity to third parties, but what’s the difference if people go without insurance and expect taxpayers to pick up the tab when they show up in emergency rooms?
Problem paying? Cancel the cable service and sell off the plasma screen TV.

Ann should come see the awesomeness of our socialized healthcare system here in China. Almost as awesome as the socialized healthcare system I lived under in Japan, which is strange considering the wealth gap between the two countries. I guess socialization is the great equalizer.

According to a recent report, the United States has $480 billion in excess spending each year in comparison to Western European nations that have universal health insurance coverage. The costs are mainly associated with excess administrative costs and poorer quality of care.14
In this new report MGI finds that the United States spends approximately $480 billion ($1,600 per capita) more on health care than other OECD countries and that additional spending is not explained by a higher disease burden; the research shows that the U.S. population is not significantly sicker than the other countries studied.
Instead, MGI found that the overriding cause of high U.S. health care costs is the failure of the intermediation system — payors, employers, and government — to provide sufficient incentives to patients and consumers to be value–conscious in their demand decisions, and to regulate the necessary incentives to promote rational use by providers and suppliers.
Using some of the same research that is being touted to push healthcare reform-Ive come to the conclusion that the greatest causes of our healthcare crisis in this country is bureaucracy and quality of care(this happens when we do not have enough healthcare providers). Do we really think the fix will be more bureaucracy and even greater lack of providers due to the system being overburdened?
These reports both state that the reason we have high healthcare costs is bureaucracy,low-quality of care and lack of rationing. How do you suggest we fix this without a government ran healthcare program. How do we not ration care, cut bureaucracy, and offer quality care without costing the American worker/taxpayer trillions of dollars. The bigger question is how do we justify trillions of dollars per year in new spending to get rid of $480 billion dollars per year in old spending?

I’m a small business owner (landscaping) and the healthcare issue hasn’t hurt my business one bit. But the outrageous taxes I’m forced to pay, along with new regulations is about to kill me. If cap and trade is passed, I’ll close my business down putting 8 people out of work.

The more small business has to pay in protection against the Litigation Lottery the less can be allocated towards employee benefits.

What’s truly frightening it that the President of the United States, his administration, and allies, attempt to infiltrate these blog conversations between private citizens and surreptitiously, secretly, and deceitfully attempt to manipulate your conversations and beliefs. “Ann” is nothing individually, just a slug. AnninCa,
I have had Blue Cross my whole adult life, and they have paid for treatment for cancer, severe allergies, chronic sinus problems, etc. A couple of times I have had to make a phone call or write a letter to get something covered, but that’s it.
What the government needs to do is remove roadblocks to independent insurers so that the self-employed can get coverage, not take over the whole system. That’s worked out so well for energy and education, hasn’t it?
/sarcasm
PattyJ on May 23, 2009 at 2:20 PM
Girl, you are so full of BS.
Every state has a Dept of Financial Services and/or a Dept of Insurance that acts as an advocate for consumers on all matters of insurance. A carrier cannot simply deny care or cancel a policy of insurance just because a claim is made. You think we’re a bunch of fools? Think again.
All carriers have rules and regs that they must follow in order to continue doing business in any given State. If they violate the State rules and regs they get spanked with heavy and sometimes debilitating fines and penalties.
Now, from what you’ve said, it seems that all of the woe’s are coming out of caleeforneea. Well, sister, why not get rid of your effing sanctuary cities and stop giving all the freebees to the millions of illegals that have infested your lands?
The key to health care “reform” lies in Tort Reform.

Or as Rahm told Bambi during his morning feeding: “All gone. Bye-bye”.

Wow.
Should I also send Ben my 1946 100 quintillion Pengo note from Hungary, just in case he still runs a little short or if his printing press overheats?

Nationalized health care will not help small business. Most small business earnings, are in the realm of what Obama leaves, as a cut off, for higher taxes. Which now stands at around $238,000 a year. Either way, the owners of these businesses, will be paying higher taxes. This will break them. Paying more out of pocket, to support nationalized health care, won’t sustain these business owners, it will destroy them.
I know people want this, because they see themselves calling the doctor that day, saying I’m not feeling well, and expect to just waltz in, and get care. It won’t happen. They’ve already said, they will ration care. Which means, russian roulette with your health. THEY will decide, if you need to see a doctor. THEY will decide if you get treatment, or what treatment you should have.
God help all the parents, with a sick child, when the government says, it’s to expensive to treat the childs ailments. God help the elderly, who will eventually see their demise, because Government said they could no longer afford to fund their heart meds, or high blood pressure meds. God help the individual, who caught their cancer early, only to be told, the chemo, and radiation don’t fit within the budget this year, and wait til next year. By that time, the cancer as mastisized into all vital organs.
Yeah…this is going to rock!

Sounds like a Palpatine-type maneuver to me. Remember when they were trying to make a correlation to GWB and the Star Wars power-grab story?
Guess we’d better watch out for a mysterious “separatist movement” in case
PalpatineObama wants to “organize” America to be more “efficient” in fighting them off!/s

You haven’t explained why this is so. Would you? Use numbers rather than general concepts and provide the linkage, please.
Do you also claim that our present health care system is preventing the economy from recovery?
