Olbermann: Cheney’s as “insane as any terrorist”

I’m not going to bother posting the clip. The bombast, the hyperbole, the invective, and above all the sanctimony are simply too much for a Friday night before a holiday weekend. If, like Mancow, you want to test yourself and see how long you can last, have at it. I advise saving a bunch of time and reading the transcript at Newsbusters instead.
I’ll ignore his penchant for analogizing his opponents to terrorists just because I’ve written about it so many times before. Instead, let me highlight this bit:
You saved no one, sir. If the classified documents you seek released really did detail plots other than those manufactured by drowning men in order to get it to stop, or if they truly did know plans beyond the laughable ones you and President Bush have already revealed, hijackers without passports, targeting a building whose name Mr. Bush could not remember, clowns who thought they could destroy airports by dropping matches in fuel pipelines 30 miles away, men who planned to attack a military base dressed as pizza delivery boys, forgetting that every man there was armed, and today, the four would-be synagogue bombers, one of whom turns out to keep bottles of urine in his apartment, and is on schizophrenia medicine.
If those documents contain anything of value, you would have leaked those already, as you leaked those revenge fantasies of the Library Tower and the JFK Bomber and the Ft. Dix Six.
The supposedly addled synagogue bombers managed to purchase what they thought were actual explosives and to plant them in cars outside the building. The Fort Dix Six were convicted of conspiring to kill military personnel and faced life in prison because of it, a reality Olby’s never quite been able to accept because he simply can’t fathom how a surprise attack on an army base might result in men killed notwithstanding the fact that troops carry weapons. For all the criticism Olbermann takes, he’s never gotten the kind of heat he deserves for being a near total denialist about the threat of terrorism, especially when it comes to homegrown/freelance cells. The only attack he’s perfectly credulous about is 9/11, and that’s only because he enjoys accusing Bush and Cheney of having maligned or exploited the victims in various ways. You’ll see he returns to that theme yet again in this latest harangue.
In lieu of Olby, I’m giving you John Gibson’s amusing deconstruction of his rant. Well worth your time, even though his conclusion’s perfectly self-evident: The reason Kayo felt compelled to go off on Cheney was because he didn’t have the integrity to deal with Obama’s embrace of indefinite detention without trial for Gitmo prisoners the way he would have had Bush ordered it. He’s a fraud — straight up, as his pal Janeane likes to say. Click the image to watch.

This guy’s a sick bastard. The fact that he’s even allowed on TV says something for the sad state of our affairs.
My deep desire is that either Liz or Dick Cheney feel the need to put this insolent, insignificant piece of human excrement in his place publicly.

You know what they say, takes one to know one, Keith.
Mr. Joe on May 22, 2009 at 7:12 PM
Honestly, do lefties think Olbermann is a help to their cause? Maybe it’s just the belief that if you repeat b.s. enough it becomes gospel. It’s worked pretty well up til now, I have to admit.
ddrintn on May 22, 2009 at 7:12 PM
This idiot has obviously never been on a military base. Yes, they have issued weapons; locked in a vault, inside an armory, and far from where the ammo is stored…
BuckNutty on May 22, 2009 at 7:12 PM
No one on a base carries a weapon unless they are an MP or are heading to the range (and those weapons don’t have ammunition until they meet it at the range.) A surprise attack might result in many deaths.
BadgerHawk on May 22, 2009 at 7:13 PM
Olbermann can be thankful that Cheney’s dedication to America saved even the dumbest Americans.
caygeon on May 22, 2009 at 7:13 PM
My brother is a masochist who occasionally watches Olbermann, despite the rest of us begging him not to. And since everytime I hear Olbermann’s voice, I feel gross and have to shower, I’m using more hot water.
Your egomaniacal rants are helping to kill the planet, Olby!!
Emily M. on May 22, 2009 at 7:14 PM
Why is this man still on television? He is so passionately biased that he has become a charicature of himself. We know he doesn’t have the balls to invigte someone he disagrees with onto his show, and he certainly doesn’t have the mental acuity to debate anyone on anything.
He is a serious waste of carbon. I hope his kidneys fail.

I’ve never watched a complete installment of his show, just read transcripts and watched clips. But let me guess: he never has conservatives as guests.

If it’s been observed once, it’s been observed a million times: some people will never realize the Muslim threat until a turbaned terror holds a sword to their throat or sticks an assault rifle in their face.

homesickamerican on May 22, 2009 at 7:20 PM
I can only presume that Mr. Olbermann thinks that he has been receiving transmissions through the fillings in his teeth from sources within the CIA that are friendly to him. The poor man is obviously quite mad. I am sure that it is of some comfort to him to know that he is among sympathetic friends at his place of employment. All of which leads me to believe that someone had best check the ventilation at MSNBC.
Sigmund on May 22, 2009 at 7:21 PM
There’s an interesting little subplot brewing at MSNBC about that. Rachel Maddow went after Obama with a vengeance last night re: indefinite detention and got a lot of liberal heat for doing so.

All I can say is that if there is another terrorist attack in the US during Obama’s term as President, Kieth Olbermann should be publicly lynched, Tared and feathered and forced to make an on air face to face personal apology to George W Bush and Dick Cheney and declare himself the all time worst person in the world.

ladyingray on May 22, 2009 at 7:35 PM
Interesting. The Gibson segment at the link had a bit of Maddow going after President Obama. I was curious as to what was up with that.
A lot of people are so emotionally invested in President Obama that they need him to be a success. People like Kmiec fall into that group. People like Olby, though, have such long ideological blinders on that they are immune to basic facts that run counter to that ideology, and will defend the guy from their party no matter what he does or what he says.
BadgerHawk on May 22, 2009 at 7:35 PM
Loud, stupid, angry and arrogant is no way to go through life, Olby.
He’s actually suggesting that the documents Cheney tried to get declassified would show the exact opposite of what Cheney said they would? And his proof is that Cheney- no longer in office and thus can no longer access such documents- would have leaked them otherwise? Huh?
That guy seriously needs a handler to point out how idiotic he sounds to anyone with half a brain.

Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t get to either of my weapons. They’re in a locked crate, inside a locked vault, inside a locked hallway, inside a building that’s locked when no one is there, inside a fended in compound with a guard at the gate.
It’s a pain in the a$$ trying to get all that stuff together and go to the range.

I wonder if anyone or group will start a BOYCOTT GE website that lists ALL the products and subsidiaries that consumers can boycott. I really want to boycott GE, forever. But I don’t know all the info I need to do that. The only thing I could find is a Wikipedia page of GE subsidiaries.

I believe the strategy he employs is he speaks very passionately, very fast, so that people will just assume he knows what he is talking about (only an moron would be that passionate and wrong — but not everybody is aware that he is a moron) and then he moves on and distracts them before people think too much about it.

Some years ago some soldier lost it and started sniping at PT. One of the other soldiers had to charge him, unarmed to take him out. The average military base probably has less armed security than the NBC building that Olbermann works at.

Most soldiers on a base do carry weapons around with them and certainly not with live ammo. Yes, but he’s a part time denialist.
If Bush or Cheney say there’s a threat, Olbermann’s response is that that is fear mongering and terrorism itself.
But if Obama or the Democrats claim (as the President did yesterday) that the Bush policies fueled greater terrorism by angering the Islamic world, Olbermann is silent.
Fear mongering by one side; acceptable when done by the other.

I remember Keef even earlier than ESPN, as he was a sportscaster in Boston. He wasn’t that bad, but Boston is a killer town for that angle of the biz, so only the best survive. At the time he was there, there was no way he would ever ascend to the top sports anchor post purely because of lack of seniority, so he went down the road to Bristol.
What happened to Keef was George Dubyah Bush and the 2000
election. And after Bush then stole Ohio in 2004, his meltdown was complete.
