Heart-ache: White House cancels kids’ tour to host Steelers
posted at 12:27 pm on May 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via Breitbart. This isn’t Obama’s fault — the schoolbus got stuck in traffic and arrived just before The One’s long-scheduled meet and greet with the Steelers was set to start — but what kind of partisan would I be if I refused to serve him a crap sandwich this tasty? It’s got everything: Angry parents, class overtones, and of course the irresistible pathos of disappointed moppets fighting back tears. Eat up, Barry.

Obama-nation. There is no problem he can not make worse.
darktood on May 22, 2009 at 6:34 PM
And to top it all off, the only reason Obama says he was rooting for the Steelers in the first place was that the owner was a campaign contributor in the primaries. Obama is most assuredly the personification of American culture.
Send_Me on May 22, 2009 at 6:41 PM
Hey, wasn’t there one spot on the Steelers tour open?
James on May 22, 2009 at 7:06 PM
Hey, you kids,
Get over it, and take my word for it,
You didn’t miss a G’Damned thing.
franksalterego on May 22, 2009 at 7:13 PM
I wonder which White House aid will ride under the bus back to Stafford?
F15Mech on May 22, 2009 at 7:27 PM
Why not still bring them in and let them meet the Steelers too?
That would have bumped him up, but instead . . . . how the heck did this clown get so popular?

MirCat on May 22, 2009 at 7:38 PM
Yup. Agreed.
We’ll see the rescheduled event as it will be featured as the feel good story of the day on ONN (Obama News Networks).
moxie_neanderthal on May 22, 2009 at 7:58 PM
Exactly. This administration is SO incompetent!!!
Believe it or not but some of the people discussing this at the nbc website are blaming the kids for being late. (I think someone here touched on that earlier). Just goes to show no one, not even kindergartners, are safe from the lefts criticism.
FontanaConservative on May 22, 2009 at 8:10 PM
Grrrrr, you’re right.
Preemptive, will they get cheap toys from the Whitehouse Gift Shop?

MirCat on May 22, 2009 at 8:13 PM
Hopefully these kids will grow up to be conservative Republicans. lol
Sad I have to add the word conservative to Republicans, but we all know it’s not a given any more where a “Republican” stands on issues.
Elisa on May 22, 2009 at 8:19 PM
The scary thing about your comment is that it’s not totally joke and totally out of the question. The way things are going, you never know what future holds.
If they can get away with it, along with their accomplices in the media, they will.
Elisa on May 22, 2009 at 8:27 PM
I like how it’s always somebody else’s fault with this administration…
EasyEight on May 22, 2009 at 8:27 PM
So low class it is beneath comment.
Stay Classy, Obama Administration.

mycowardice on May 22, 2009 at 8:46 PM
As everyone else pointed out it was a no-brainer on what to do.
Invite the kids in to meet the President and the Steelers at the same time.
Or have an aide entertain the kids on a playground, bowling alley, or movie theater. I hear the “Obama’s house” has one of each. Instead of going to the his house, divert the kids to his airplane and take them for a ride to Memphis
The WH could have done more to accommodate the kids IMO.
For those that don’t live in the DC area the rush hour runs from around 5:30am till 11:00 or so. Then you get the lunch traffic, and then rush hour starts again around 3:00pm.
That is a normal day. One stupid driver can easily add 1 hour or so to a daily commute. So it is really hard to plan for traffic issues unless you know the back roads. Which a School Bus from Stafford would not know.

So much for “let the children come to me,” as we’re accustomed to hearing from messiahs

the outrageous outragey outrage is so awesome
Dave Rywall on May 22, 2009 at 9:52 PM
What a lack of creativity, invite the kids to meet the Steelers and the President all at the same time.
Everyone would have cheered.
Sackett on May 22, 2009 at 10:01 PM
It’s just another Obummer. Steeling time from kids. For shame, for shame.
EconomicNeocon on May 22, 2009 at 10:08 PM
Kids, come back in a few years when we have a real president.

More of the same from obama, this may convince him to give more tax money to increase abortion so it wont happen again.

Obama lied, children cried!
Oh come on, this one was so obvious.

Just another in an incrasingly long line of screw ups by this president
ToddonCapeCod on May 23, 2009 at 6:07 AM
The no-class White House. These are the same genuises that planned the flyover. These morons can’t figure a way to combine the two? or at least have them go play on the swings until the Pittsburgh Cheaters are finished?
Oh, my bad, that would cut into his “spending money” time. flippin poser.
ajmontana on May 23, 2009 at 7:10 AM
I’d love to see this headline for the kindergarten debacle:
“One for the Dumb”
Steelers fans and football fans from the 1970′s will understand the reference.
Of course, this all the Bush administration’s fault. Had they improved this nation’s infrastructure those kids wouldn’t been stuck in traffic on I-95.
Ampleforth on May 23, 2009 at 7:38 AM
Hello, has anyone noticed that all the kids, parents and teachers are WHITE?? Yep, if it were an all-minority inner city school they would have been invited in to MEET the Steelers.
Remember Obama’s church. That’s all I’m saying.
;)

Even when Barack made the sandwich himself?
unclesmrgol on May 23, 2009 at 10:21 AM
The plan to surround Obama with those as completely incompetent as possible in order to enhance his “messiah” qualities is not working. When the wheel is incompetent, it just reinforces the spokes are incompetent too.
volsense on May 23, 2009 at 10:27 AM
Obama made the wrong choice. I don’t care if you’d collected my favorite writers, musicians, actors, and scientists for a meet and greet…as President I’d have snubbed them all to meet with the kids.
The Pittsburgh Steelers would have no doubt soon got over the disappointment as they went on to press the flesh with still more celebrities in their already exciting, star-studded lives.
The kids will not so easily get over the disappointment.

Of all the colorful names that have been created for you know who, I think the most appropriate one in this case is:
“Fumbler”

Why can’t bureaucrats think?
It’s so easy a caveman can do it, But then comparing cavemen to bureaucrats is degrading to cavemen.
Gwillie on May 23, 2009 at 11:34 AM
I just read the Fox News headlines…
But that doesn’t count when it comes to ordinary school children vs overpaid athletes does it?
behiker on May 23, 2009 at 12:32 PM
I bet “We the People” get to pick up the tab for this Obama screw up as well!
Bicyea on May 23, 2009 at 1:07 PM
Love that stupid woman expecting the president to change his schedule because her side screwed up/got stuck in traffic.
Time to grow the f*ck up and be an example to the kids. Teach them to take disappointment like a champ instead of blaming it on and imaginary “class” preference.
foucaultsvac on May 23, 2009 at 1:09 PM
Man, where is the common sense? They had a window of 9:30am to 10:30am. If I were in charge of the kid’s field trip, I would have left in time to be an hour early to the 9:30 appointment. You can entertain the kids, walk around until it’s your time, but when you are late, your are late. Come on, people. When I was raising my kids, I took part is many field trips, none to the pres, but a couple to the governor. We had a window, and we had tons of traffic (California) and we were early every time. Plan ahead. I hate people who are constantly late, and I am willing to bet that the parents who were in charge of this field trip have problems in their personal life with being on time.
I retired from an industry that was time sensitive and people had to be on time. They got 3 warnings, then they were done if 6 months did not go by since the first warning.
All that being said, if I were the Prez, and I knew about it, given the circumstances of his next guests, I would have arranged something, even had the kids meet the players. It wasn’t as if the Prez knew about the problem until after it happened.
But parents, it’s your responsibility to teach your kids to be on time. And you do that by setting an example yourselves. This is YOUR fault, not Obama’s . Oh what the hell, the kids are only 5, they will probably be told that Bush was president when this happened.
gstrickler on May 23, 2009 at 2:26 PM
I don’t now if anyone has mentioned this, but there’s another side to this story.
He wasn’t just hosting the Steelers. He was also hosting the USO and 50 wounded warriors from WRAMC and Bethesda. They put together USO packages.
http://www.soldiersperspective.us/2009/05/22/pittsburgh-steelers-and-uso-service-white-house-event/
Why the media didn’t care enough to mention the wounded soldiers and Marines is beyond me, but I think we know why. A football player is more important than a soldier to the msm.
juliesa on May 23, 2009 at 4:17 PM
Obama ardently admires how things get done in China.
After a 5 hour traffic delay caused by a man contemplating suicide on a bridge, a driver gets out, shakes the man’s hand, and shoves him over the edge. Link to Gateway Pundit to view the video.
Meanwhile, back at the White House, 10 minutes is 10 minutes too much to ask of the perpetually tardy POTUS.
maverick muse on May 24, 2009 at 8:46 AM
And that is perhaps one of the most depressing revelations of this entire episode.
oldleprechaun on May 24, 2009 at 9:11 AM
Makes you wonder how Bush would’ve handled it?
volsense on May 24, 2009 at 10:23 AM
Yah right, considering those DC kids have NO FATHER.
Sapwolf on May 24, 2009 at 4:48 PM
Absolutely! While I agree with those pointing out Obama’s responsibility for putting in place the completely classless staff, I also agree with the point that he probably had no idea any of this was happening. Believe me, I wish there was proof that he did and just blew it. Still, if this had been the Bush administration’s bungle, the MSM would have been all over President Bush, even though I think President Bush would have been genuinely sorry for the children’s disappointment, while Obama will just be genuinely angry that one of his staff made him look bad.
This story is not exactly the same sort of thing, but it gives a glimpse of Bush’s character and that of his staff. My brother-in-law won a prestigious military award a couple of years ago and part of the honor was a trip to D.C with various tours and ceremonies for him and some 26 other award winners. One of the tours was of the White House. When they were finished, they were milling about out front on Pennsylvania Ave waiting for the bus to come. It was late because the street was cordoned off because President Bush was going to make a speech somewhere. Anyway, as President Bush passed by in his motorcade he noticed them. Now, he was apparently completely unaware of the tour, (so again, I give Obama a pass on the kids) but he told his staff to find out who they were. When he found out, he told his staff he wanted to meet them and to arrange a meeting with them the next morning when he would be back, if they were still available. My brother-in-law (and probably most of the others) had to rearrange his travel plans, but was thrilled to do it. He said President Bush greeted each one of the 27 individually and took a picture shaking hands in front of his desk, then talked to the group for about 45 minutes, asked them questions, explained how he liked to know how people felt about issues, but that, at the end of the day, he was President and had to make the decision he believed to be correct. He seemed genuinely interested in them and their opinions.
It was a great honor for them, though President Bush probably felt the honor was his. At any rate, he had to rearrange his busy schedule to fit them in, not to mention having the security clearances run on all of them, including an Iraqi soldier who was on some sort of exchange. No small feat on such short notice. His administration was not incompetent though.
There was also a fun story about Karl Rove and short chat with Dick Cheney for my brother in law as well. Apparently there is only a single bath/toilet near the conference hall near the Oval Office where they waited until the president finished a previously scheduled meeting. B-i-l had to go and while he was waiting in line, the VP came out, looked at him; asked him what he was doing there and talked for a couple minutes. Nothing spectacular, but I think Dick Cheney is one of the coolest people ever, so I’d list that as an awesome brush with fame. Plus, I’d wonder if any of Obama’s staff would have given the time of day. Maybe, since Biden is such a blabber mouth, but it still wouldn’t have been nearly as cool as saying you chatted with Darth Cheney while waiting to go to the head. ;)
Rove came into the conference hall while they were waiting; asked them what they were doing. They told him and he stayed and talked for about 5 minutes. Then as he was leaving, he told them “Okay, keep it down; I’m trying to get some work done.” They all laughed and he turned and said, “No, seriously, I’m trying to get some work done.” And walked out. My b-i-l thought it was hilarious. Contrast with what they could have expected from Rahm: “Shut the fu** up!”
*sigh* It sure was nice to have people with some class in the White House. Now, it’s just embarrassing.

Rescheduled is reshuffled, rebuffed, rebuked, redacted, retread. Let’s just try again and see if we can keep them happy because their parents vote.
This is the caliber of people President Obama hires to represent U.S.

Send_Me is “most assured,” but he doesn’t appear to have considered whether the Americans have exactly one culture. If they do, we marvel that Send_Me claims to have such a vantage point outside it; however, we doubt the Americans are of such a singular and uniform culture. I’ll offer that it’s possible that being “most assured” is more evidence of proud anger than of understanding.

Skin color my friend. Skin color.
As I said during the election, I’d have voted for any black candidate other than him. Color makes no differance to me but HE is bad news and its a pitty folks wanted a black President so bad, they took the first one who made it that far.
