Video: Obama acknowledges Defense Secretary “William” Gates

posted at 11:49 am on May 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

I’m pretty sure this is Bush’s fault; everything else in his speech was. I’ll have a separate post soon on The One’s declaration that we shouldn’t relitigate the past eight years even though that’s what he spent the morning doing, but enjoy this tidbit for now. When you’re distracted by the business of governing 57 states, gaffes are bound to happen.

That’s just Barry dreaming about the next company he’s going to swallow.

Getting the name wrong on the Defense Secretary during a national security speech is awkward.

But I am more concerned with the pause and stilted way in which he said National Security Advisor, Jim Jones.

Makes me think they aren’t familiar with one another.

myrenovations on May 21, 2009 at 11:52 AM

I can’t see the video. Does he correct himself immediately or just kind of say it and move on? It’s funny either way, I just want to make sure I’m directing my laughter properly.

Clearly, Darth Cheney has a minion still on staff at Casa de Obama.

He didn’t correct it at all. Didn’t seem to notice he’d gotten it wrong either.

BadgerHawk on May 21, 2009 at 11:53 AM

Not at all.

Just says william, after a slight pause like he didnt know it

But as said above, the pause before the NSA advisor is long, like “omg whats his name again?”

Fight the power, TOTUS.

Cheney just HANDLED barry in those two speeches. Cheney sounded like a president while barry sounded like a clown

ousoonerfan15 on May 21, 2009 at 12:00 PM

The contrast between Cheney’s address and the President’s speech cannot be understated.

Obama sounded like he was addressing the editorial board of the Des Moines Register or the NY Times while Cheney was talking to adults about the serious matters this country faces.

One was a purely political speech while the other was the speech addressing the nation.

cobrakai99 on May 21, 2009 at 12:05 PM

Oh, give him a break… TOTUS wasn’t there. He had to use notes which means anything can happen.

Seriously though, this is one of those “if Bush had done it” moments. Late night shows, you watching? Of course not, because this is actually pretty minor in comparison to the Young Gaffer’s other moments.

By the way, did anyone catch Cheney wasting The One? But I want to vomit listening to Beckel claim he’s never seen something so shameful from a former VP, etc. etc. Really? I seem to recall Gore screaming that Bush “betrayed this country!”, among other things.

Two choice Cheney soundbites (though there were many, many others, in addition to his well-laid-out reasoning and sober assessments):

Those two size up the left, and the left knows it, which is why Beckel almost keeled over right after.
