Helen Thomas on Katie Couric’s Palin interviews: “She saved the country”

posted at 6:52 pm on May 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

This was one of her lines at last night’s roast of Couric, but I don’t think she’s joking. Leave it to Aunt Bethany to miss the point of the evening, just like she’s been missing the point of asking useful, probative questions at the daily White House presser for decades. There’s an interesting admission buried here: Is she implying that McCain/Palin would have won but for the Couric trainwreck? I’ve never heard anyone on either side seriously suggest that. I guess it takes years of taking up space in the briefing room, muttering questions about Israel, to develop that sort of political acuity.

Axelrod joined in on the fun with Palin too, of course:

Most punch lines included ratings, Sarah Palin and colonoscopies– or an odd combination of the three…

“People were surprised by the intensity of that interview with Sarah Palin, but I wasn’t. To me, it made perfect sense. After all, Katie has made it her civic responsibility to conduct public colonoscopies. But I’m sure that will be the butt of a lot of jokes tonight.” -Axelrod

I wonder how Katie feels knowing that her long career in TV news will likely be most remembered for (a) having her colon examined on camera and (b) asking the question, “So, what do you like to read?” Oh — you’ll be pleased to know that Huckabee was there too, laughing along. Which, given his perspective on the Couric/Palin interview, isn’t a surprise.

Katie Couric and Helen Thomas…

One’s a washed-up old hag,

And the other’s a former correspondent for UPI.

I am so weary of these AP posts about Sarah Palin that I’m not going to read them anymore. It’s always the same old crap, specifically designed to get a rise out of HotAir readers for the maximum number of comments.

God bless you AP, I hope it continues to work for you. But I know when I’m being manipulated so bye bye on the subject of Sarah Palin here for the duration of my time on this earth.

I will speak with my vote, which is all that matters anyway.

I too am so frickin’ tired of STUPID liberal opinions.
A box of rocks has more intelligence than our current VP.

Would universal health care rid the world of Helen Thomas?

Why the McCain campaign thought an interview with this liberal dope was a good idea is beyond me. Palin should have overridden it.

Speedwagon82 on May 22, 2009 at 2:12 AM

Thanks AP for not posting a picture of Helen Thomas.

Thanks AP for posting a caption under palin’s photo that nobody else noticed. :)

As long as it’s not Bill Ayers.

Why not? He could call it “Dreams of her father”.

Obviously about Helen Thomas.

Isn’t it, AP?

I’m sure the point’s been made repeatedly, but what is it about the concept of a ‘roast’ that’s so confusing to the left.

Helen Thomas on Katie Couric’s Palin interviews: “She saved the country”

Actually, if you examine this from Thomas’ view, it is sort of accurate. But you need to understand that the country she perceives was saved was not the USA. Helen hates the USA and doubtless feels that anything that stopped another conservative term in DC would help save the country she cares about. That one is the one she feels is currently occupied by Israel.

With these people you cannot assume that the words they use mean the same thing those words mean to you. Witness Obama standing in the National Archives this week saying that he intends to protect the bill of rights, while his administration is systematically shredding the 10th and other amendments. They think we are all stupid, and that we will accept the words as valid, because they sound like our words. Unfortunately, it appears over half of our friends and neighbors are that stupid; since Obama won despite what everyone knew him to be.

That might be a plan most of us could support – at least short term.

The part of a roast that liberals don’t understand is the part that’s not a narcissist’s wet dream. In other words — all of it.

And that’s also the part of everything else in the world that they don’t understand.

Couric, Gibson and the rest revealed their lefty allegiances in stark relief in 2008. The inevitable excesses of the Democrats may eventually result in a backlash against the liberal establishment and their media handmaidens. In this sense, Couric may have, eventually saved the country, but the jury is still out on that. Meanwhile, since Palin didn’t sink McCain’s ship, Couric is just a reason for false bravado at this point.

That carpet munching hellen thomas and that brain dead walking life support system for a vag-interview Katie KooKooCouric both need to get a room and a video camera.

The release of that tape will turn all the gay men straight and all the sexually liberated lefties into prudish conservatives overnight.

I love that quote!

Red State State of Mind on May 22, 2009 at 12:10 PM

Democrats have nothing better to do, nor anything fruitful to offer this country, or anyone in it, so they stoop to lame, tired, inane jokes. And those that glorify in this “intelligent” debate, lap it up faster than a dog on a steak.

Just keep em coming. It’ll be their undoing.

Such a smart lady. Questions if Iran is really a threat. She must take awful long naps to have missed this bit of news. Totally worthless and insulting to everyone’s intelligence to give her air time or print her stupid statements and questions. I thought we were supposed to get wiser with age. She must not have acquired that gene.
