Beck doubles down: You owe me an apology, Barbara Walters!

posted at 3:09 pm on May 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

I don’t blame him for being angry if he thinks he was wronged on national television (although if he was, why didn’t he pound the table about it yesterday?), but I can’t help laughing at this anyway as an example of one of the dumbest celebrity feuds ever to hit American media. Remember, the whole crux of this increasingly angry dispute is with whether Whoopi’s and Barbara’s Amtrak seats were reserved or not. Given Beck’s, er, eccentricities, I can only hope we’re in store for a Queeg-like demonstration on his show this afternoon, replete with animated simulation, that the seats were reserved and that they could only have been reserved. Will Whoopi and Barbara respond tomorrow? Stay tuned for the developing Amtrakgate scandal! Click the image to listen.

Ditto. That was like the fight to end all fights. This is like Little Mac vs. Glass Joe.

When you work with cattle, you get a little bullshit on you. Beck, you went to the barn. Quit whining about what you should’ve expected, in the first place.

OhEssYouCowboys on May 21, 2009 at 3:13 PM

No…the LIE was that he said Barbra called him over and she didn’t, he approached them, univited.
The seat stuff is just chaff, cover for the LIE.

strangelet on May 21, 2009 at 3:14 PM

Maybe he shouldn’t have gone on The View in the first place since he claimed he knew what he would be walking into. OR maybe he should have thought to demand an apology when they started accusing him instead of being on the defensive the entire time.

Livefreeordie on May 21, 2009 at 3:14 PM

Before he went to The View, he spent hours talking about going on The View. I changed the station.

Today he spent all 3 hours talking about this today. I listend to hear him out.

If he talks about it for more than a few minutes tomorrow, I am going to poke out my ear drums.

myrenovations on May 21, 2009 at 3:16 PM

You reap what you Sow. You go on the View, you deserve what you get.

TheBigOldDog on May 21, 2009 at 3:16 PM

Moral of the story is do not go on the view if you are conservative, ever for whatever reason.
Especially if your not well endowed in the guts/brains department.
The whole segment of the population who like and are influenced by those dizzy women on the view are next to useless. They don’t vote, they nag all the time and have huge huge asses(see M Mcain for example).

kangjie on May 21, 2009 at 3:17 PM

Why would anyone go on The View…..?

Seven Percent Solution on May 21, 2009 at 3:17 PM

I haven’t been this excited since the Stuttering John/Bababooey wars of the early 90′s.

benrand on May 21, 2009 at 3:17 PM

If it’s DC to NY, I believe such seats are not reservable in the sense “You get car #1, row 3, seats A $ B”, or like in an airplane. However, one would have a reservation for a particular train, i.e., a specified departure time.

So they could both be right, just using “reservation” in a differing manner. Figures that BwaBwa & Whoopdi-do would be upset at having to sit with hoi polloi, rather than having a first class that gets sectioned off from us teeming riff-raff.

Beck is not an asset

it doesn’t help yesterday he had Paul on to claim Gitmo should be closed and the Rule of Law has been violated by the Republicans, etc. Complete ignoramous.

I’m not sure what any of this is about, since I haven’t watched, or listened to eithers shows. At this point, I’m not sure I care what it’s about? LOL Sounds like a bunch of silly, inane bickering, to me.

capejasmine on May 21, 2009 at 3:20 PM

I still don’t get how it helped Beck to go on The View in the first place. Whole thing is very stupid.

BadgerHawk on May 21, 2009 at 3:20 PM

I lost respect for him going on that show.

And even more for allowing himself to be berated.

Great job.

artist on May 21, 2009 at 3:21 PM

I went back and listed to the clip they played of him on the View. I can’t believe nobody caught this, but even in the clip, he NEVER said she came over.

It wasn’t in the clip they played on the air before they indicted him.

How sly and devious those ladies are!

therightscoop on May 21, 2009 at 3:22 PM

Beck sat there and took their crap like a girly-man.

Live with it Beck – you had your chance on the show and you decided to sit there like an idiot and be berated.

You blew it.

Now – create a war – it will be fun to watch.

Cindy Munford on May 21, 2009 at 3:24 PM

If you are stupid enough to walk into a horseshoe ambush that you know is there, live with the consequences. The average of the IQs on The View, excluding Elizabeth, is in double digits. They kicked Beck’s butt like there was no tomorrow. Disapponting to say the least.

Celebrities, especially liberal ones, love to pretend they are are normal people who make no special arrangements.

Speedwagon82 on May 21, 2009 at 3:25 PM

Good move by Beck. Although he was handed his ass to him on “The View”, most of his viewers didn’t see it. So he can lie again by saying he was mistreated.

radiofreevillage on May 21, 2009 at 3:30 PM

Beck’s larger point is that with five co-hostesses of The View, three of which are strongly opposed to him before he even sets foot on the set, they could and did badger him with two or more simultaneous assaults, such that he could barely even understand, much less respond, to any of them. They can always pile the crap twice as fast as you can shake it off.

It’s difficult to deal with such a situation, especially with the added “he’s being mean to a girl” trap. Ask Rick Lazio about that one. Beck did a great job of being “nice”; I’d like for him to have done a better job of it. I’d go for something like “are we going to have a conversation, or am I just supposed to sit here while you fling baseless accusations at me en masse?”

The faux outrage over whether Beck or Walters initiated the conversation is the real distraction. From that, they spun some kind of “falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus” theory to say he’s a lying liar who lies.

The Monster on May 21, 2009 at 3:31 PM

I didn’t watch any of the clips or follow this story, but I listened to part of his show today.

He was talking about Amtrak seats and questions about crying, and I thought, “what the hell is he talking about”. The whole thing seems pretty silly. I don’t know why he went on that show to begin with. One one audio clip, somebody asked him a question and before he got one sentence out, all three of them started screeching at him. Miserable people on that show.

Glenn Glenn Glenn – Hannity is on live now discussing Dick Cheney referring in his speech to newspaper writers who refer to captured terrorists as “military abductions”. The “s” is hitting the fan in our country and it’s time to drop this “View” crapolla.

Beck doubles down: You owe me an apology, Barbara Walters!

Beck owes his mother and father and all his ancestors going back to that what-you-ma-call-it from 49 million years ago an apology for devolving into someone stupid enough to go on that moronic “View”.

MB4 on May 21, 2009 at 3:31 PM

Looked like Beck apologized yesterday (which is weird on why you would…fib and embellish, a story about Whoopie and Babs the day before you go on their show (which they obviously control), apologize on that show, and then go back to your own show to rail against how unfair Babs and Whoopie are today.

That seems rather chicken**** and I have nothing against Glenn Beck.

Actually, I think it was Walters/Goldberg who got “Alinsky’d” on Beck’s radio show. And obviously they didn’t like it. Their response to him was not “Alinsky”–they “Jerry Springer’d” him. The only thing that kept Goldberg from hurling her chair at him is that her fat butt was planted in it.

5 women at the table, did anyone cry?

lorien1973 on May 21, 2009 at 3:48 PM

When I think Barbara Walters, besides the Baba Wawa Gilda Radner impersonation, I think of Brian Lamb, Cspan founder, who said when he worked at the White House and greeted Barbara Walters there, she treated him with disdain, and he never forgot that. And I think of Bill Gates, who BW interviewed. BW asked him to sing a song he learned recently in a self-improvement class, he sang “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, and by her look you’d have thought he had just pulled down his pants and crapped on the floor. And she says, dismissively, “Let’s go onto something else”. She is a snotty, superior, cold, b-word. Don’t like her. And don’t ever sing for her. You’d regret it.

Whoopie and Barbara…..a legend in their own minds. Don’t tend to believe anything they say, but that is true of so many ‘public’ figures these days. Don’t necessarily believe Glenn either but if it is down to one or the other, leaning towards Glenn. That feeling of superiority and entitlement just oozes out of the ladies….Hello, don’t you know who I AM??? Get out of that seat, it is mine by default of my wonderfullness!

Beck has this newfound fame with Fox News and he had no idea what to say to these hags.
Beck seems to like confrontation, but was scared in The View of all places.
Grow a set Beck and get on that show and fight like a man. These liberal hags are the worst and most stupid. He should have had control and not apologize. I know Whoopi is scary looking, but please.

All Elisabeth does is stare off the stage into the audience blankly. She must be going nuts sitting in that show daily. For your own sake Elisabeth, get off this sinking ship quick.

jencab on May 21, 2009 at 4:06 PM

You don’t have to love Beck to recognize that he was set up. They didn’t like his comedy riff at their expense. Fair enuf. But when someone is a guest on your show, you take them aside and have a private word. Apologies made, accepted, and the show goes on.

Beck has some interesting things to say. How stupid of them to drag their petty complaints into the public sphere, instead of having what could have a pretty good discussion with him. Question: Do you think they’d have treated him better if he was still at CNN?

Dee2008 on May 21, 2009 at 4:08 PM

One reason his performance was probably lax on The View was because he was sick. He skipped his radio & TV shows yesterday except for a late-in-the-show call-in on TV. He sounded terrible.

Beck might have jumped the shark with his appearance on The View. Even one of his own callers today were giving him hell. One of them said he set back conservatism 200 years. Some people need to be watched/heard to feel any worth about themselves. There’s no there there on the inside. The idea of privacy like you and I might desire is alien and repugnant to them. Coming from a near-hermit, their neediness scares me, but I assume they would think I’m nuts as well.

SuperManGreenLantern on May 21, 2009 at 4:56 PM

I met Glenn while he was here at the radio station in Philadelphia a few years ago. He was quick, witty and confident. Now that he’s hit the really big time, I’m not sure he is able to handle it all. He strikes me as getting worse as time goes on–like he’s losing his self-control when it comes to his emotions. I’ve seen quite a change in him, not always for the better. Of course, he might say that the ante has been upped by the radical infusion of Obamaism.

There is one sense in which I think he is right about his version of events on the train, with a slight embellishment, perhaps. But that’s comedy. The Barbara Walters voice was comedy, and those sad libtards on “The Shrew” can’t stand to be criticised or poked fun at. Certainly not poked. At least not in a long time, I suspect.

Beck?…..What the hell did you think was gonna happen with that pack of fat ass liberal bitches?

…..there’s not enough Huckabee one liners to get yourself out of that mess.

Egad. Seatgate. I do agree that he should defend himself if he was telling the truth. And yet, since he started off by letting them lie right in front of him on their show, it seems a bit hollow to be indignant now.

He should’ve walked off the set of The View. Though to his credit, he did make some good points about actual issues, in a later segment.

I wonder if there was a camera on that train?

Helen Thomas…Barbara Walters…Nancy Pelosi…stayed too long at the prom.

Dee2008 on May 21, 2009 at 5:13 PM

The average of the IQs on The View, excluding INCLUDING Elizabeth, is in double digits.

There. Fixed it.

Elisabeth handles those harpies on a daily basis, and Beck can’t even survive one guest shot?

jay12 on May 21, 2009 at 4:28 PM

Handles them? She sits in the corner and talks when she’s allowed to. The fact that she’s outnumbered, shouted down, cut off and intimidated on a regular basis is what liberals like to call “The Fairness Doctrine”.

hawksruleva on May 21, 2009 at 5:15 PM

The View……of imbeciles.

These women scream for a swift and sure sheephook to jerk their dumb asses off the stage.

Beck should be smarter than to get in a pissy feud with that gaggle of harpies.

I don’t know what he, or any right-leaning personality, is thinking when they subject themselves to that group. He can’t win an argument with a flock of post menopausal nut cases. Nobody can. Any sane person (and Beck’s on the bubble anyway, although I like him) just ends up looking as psychotic as them.
