Whoopi to Glenn Beck: “You’re a lying sack of dog mess”

It’s no idle insult, as you’ll see: She’s got videotape to support her case. Consider this a palate cleanser if you like, but not since Jon Stewart chewed out Jim Cramer have I seen a guest look more uncomfortable — or give more ground — than Beck does here. The passage about whether “commentators” have the same responsibility to check their facts as “journalists” is especially cringeworthy. It’s a trainwreck, but like any trainwreck, it’s impossible to look away. Enjoy.

Said they had a hard time finding seats–and they most certainly did if they got on in NY. What I question is that fact that these seats were open even at the back of the car? It just might be possible that someone was sent on ahead to find them seats and when they did, stood guard. I have had that happen to me on AMTRAK when large families want to be together–they send out a ’scout’ who grabs and holds on to the seats they choose. AS for what was a lie about who approached whom, he did get caught red handed on that one–no question. It’s no big deal though for any of the parties and will not interfere with Beck’s popularity at all(don’t look sad AP, it just won’t)or the View’s.

Leftists are now personally attacking people in unexpected places.
- comedy shows (Cramer)
- beauty pageants
- talk shows
They are perfecting this attack method.
Where next?

My experience is this the pendulum swing, back too far, and that means we’ll end up in center.
Our culture is center. There may be energy to first the moral majority and now to the far left crowd, but the majority of us are ill-at-ease with both fringe groups.
It’ll balance out, eventually.

Most dull ‘gotcha’ moment ever.

Meh. They won the same way that a commenter wins by pointing out a spelling, or grammatical, error. Beck’s only stupid move was to reference Pelosi.

He was recorded saying (on a broadcast no less) something that he later admitted he knew not to be true at the time he said it. Not a big lie, but a lie nonetheless. They called him on it and he was forced to admit it to their faces on TV. That’s a loss, not a win.

Itchee Dryback on May 20, 2009 at 3:51 PM
I agree that it was a loss. No question about that. It was an embellishment for the telling of the story. I just think it didn’t matter much. This is pretty clear, because Whoopi was complaining about Beck’s impersonation of Baba’s voice, which was pretty good, actually. And then Whoopi had to do it, herself, to illustrate!
But Allah made this sound like it was something serious, which it wasn’t.

Since AnninCA just makes up crap, here are the ratings:
The View
909,000 viewers (source: http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/05/22/daytime-tv-ratings-may-12-16-2008/3878)
Glenn Beck:
2.19 viewers (source: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/the_scoreboard_monday_may_18_116919.asp)
Glenn’s are as current as yesterday and The Views are from 5-12 through 5-16.
Hmmmm… seems like Glenn wins this round.

ladyingray on May 20, 2009 at 4:00 PM
Besides being a weak answer it’s also unsupported.
For instance; I do not listen to his radio program but watch his TV program a couple of times a week. He has the 9-12 project. A newsletter, etc.
Different days but just some insights.
So it’s easy to assert, and back up claims, is the only point here [this is verifiable with the web ~ unlike who was told or not told and making up about whether seats were or were not reserved and what each person relied on to get the definition of reserved was, etc.]
Without either poster using supporting data to the points it just kind of breaks the irony threshold, for me only, on a thread about she said-he said. Nothing more; nothing less.
Branch Rickey on May 20, 2009 at 4:00 PM
Oh my gosh. This was his big lie? By that standard Whoopi and Barbara are lying when they claim Beck said she called him over. He didn’t say that in the clip I went back and re-watched it. He starts right in using the silly voice. Not come here… the first thing he claims she said was his name.
Honestly all the crap they pull they are pretty thin skinned to get all upset over that little voice thing! Beck does that to everyone! Whoopi claimed she watched. If she did she would know that voice is what he does… not specific to them.
I was ready to get all negative on Beck… I thought he was really misleading in that interview with the magician yesterday and thought he was really having a bad couple of days….
But Whoopi and Barbara were completely wrong. If he mischaracterized them, they did the same to him a few minutes later. It’s what people do to each other.
If he really wants to pursue this we could do a comparison with what Beck actually said and what Whoopi said Beck said it wasn’t’ the same. I rewatched it.
I’d be interested to know who “reserved” the seats… I believe Beck because I saw Whoopi lie while acting all outraged at the same exact behavior. Whoopi told as big a lie as Beck’s at least.

Can’t wait to see if Walters or Goldberg have the cojones to reverse the table and visit Beck’s show. If either of them shows up, I hope he treats them to the same shoutdown tactics they used on him. After watching the clip, I have no idea if he made something up or not. All I know is that they accused him of it and didn’t let him defend himself. I actually know less about Beck then I do about the two divas in the story…but my money’s on Beck.

Deanna on May 20, 2009 at 4:23 PM
The controversy over who introduced themselves to whom is an incredibly minor point that The View exploited because they have little else to talk about. They’re rather translucently-skinned people at that show. They just can’t take any kind of ridicule. Anyway, it speaks more to Beck that he introduced himself. It also seems like a rather trivial point to make about reserved seats. He wasn’t doing a news report that required investigative journalism, he was telling a personal anecdote.

The word “petty” comes to mind.
petunia on May 20, 2009 at 4:37 PM
It just illustrates bad judgment on the part of Glenn Beck. “The View” has an insignificant audience. As such, he can’t increase his audience by making false accusations that besmirch two of the show’s hosts. So why do it? And why do it a week before his scheduled appearance on that show?
All he managed to do was (i) make himself look bad and (ii) make “The View” look good. Pretty self-destructive move if you ask me — and one that was totally unnecessary.
Outlander on May 20, 2009 at 4:40 PM
I’m not gonna watch it again, but Glenn is obviously backpedalling. Do you do that when you tell it like it is? No. Do you hide behind the “I’m a commentator” line when retelling a story? You don’t have to be an investigative journalist to retell a story correctly.
He hurt himself. I like Glenn a lot, but his “I was ambushed” headline on his web site does him no favors.

He was ambushed, any normal person hearing Glenn on the radio would know he is telling the story with tongue in cheek, in good fun. The coven doesn’t have a sense of humor. Glenn is the first to admit he is a radio clown.
He uses a worse voice over for his wife. He is absolutely ruthless with his friend Stew. Thats his mojo. Can’t say the same for Whoopi, who gives glares because she doesn’t like the person’s politics.
Conservative Voice on May 20, 2009 at 4:48 PM
From his newsletter
Glenn ambushed on ‘The View’
Glenn knew this wasn’t going to be pretty — but his interview with the ladies on The View was even worse than anticipated, mostly because they wasted an entire segment on accusations that Glenn ‘lied’ about who said hello to who first on his Amtrak train ride with Barbara and Whoopi to the Correspondents dinner in Washington DC. The saddest part is that not only did they waste an entire segment on a completely insignificant, petty, humorless and incidental point – Glenn had already clarified the point the day before! Tune in to Fox News tonight at 5pm for Glenn’s first response to the ‘liar liar pants on fire’ ambush interview by the ladies on The View
Conservative Voice on May 20, 2009 at 4:51 PM
Sorry, but what’s to “fact check”?!? She acts like he has not fact-checked that they sat on the train, or reserved seats, or who called whom over… and then applied that to his entire career?!?
Glenn should have stood up for himself instead of “Cramering” himself as he did.
CLaFarge on May 20, 2009 at 4:52 PM
Oh c’mon Allah, that wasn’t my impression of it at all. I guess you can see what you want to see, but that’s not what I saw. First of all, Cramer was presumably on friendly territory, whereas Beck wasn’t. Secondly, Beck says (in today’s newsletter) that he clarified himself yesterday to set the record straight. I assume we’ll get his version on his show in a few minutes.
Basically they shot him down before he got a chance to talk, and then mostly kept talking over him. What a waste of DVR space.
Why the hell was he there anyway? He didn’t plug anything that I recall.

But really, this is the best you got? Desperate.

Conservative_SAHM on May 20, 2009 at 5:48 PM
Glenn’s audience could care less about anything on The View. And I also heard him correct himself, so this is a totally non-story. Well except that some people here love The View and think alot of Whoopi Goldberg. Now that is a real story.
I used to think Whoopi was entertaining and funny, but in the last 10 years or so she has gone off the deep end of Far Left looniness. Joy Whatever-Her-Name-Is is totally useless I guess…I never heard of her before. And Barbara Walters has been a joke for a long time, she’s the Jimmy Carter of TV jounalism. She lost what little class she had when she wrote about her affair with a married man after 30 years of silence.
So in other words, this is all about nothing.

Cramer on Stewart was worse by a hair. He should not have let the interview go that way and stated what was more important. 7 minutes about who said hi to who. He should be above letting the junior high topic take over, but missed the chance and will now have to endure the inevitable mocking that is sure to come.
koolbrease on May 20, 2009 at 6:27 PM
Allah, I trust you’ll be posting Beck’s reply which came at the end of tonight’s show. It is essentially my entire take on this thing – Whoopi is going nuts and calling names because Beck misstated who spoke to who first, which makes absolutely no difference at all? And by the way, perhaps I missed something, but in Beck’s radio clip, I don’t even hear him stating that Barbara came up to him first.
At any rate, will we soon see the reply from Beck?
RightWinged on May 20, 2009 at 6:30 PM
Apparently you’re not familiar with the definitions of any of the words in that attempt at a sentence, including “the.”

I’ve never been a fan of Beck (some of it has to do with the “sick twisted freak” thing). I think under duress we show who we really are and this is a good example. Beck’s views are not particularly insightful (IMHO) and he has never struck as someone who is especially thoughtful or intelligent. (Of course I am not a multi-millionaire so who am I to judge.)
I believe Beck’s success has always been a byproduct of Rush Limbaugh’s trail blazing efforts. To be fair I think he is head and shoulders above Hannity.
Anyone else feel this way or am I an island?
Mormon Doc on May 20, 2009 at 6:43 PM
Mormon Doc on May 20, 2009 at 6:43 PM
You are an island. It is true that under duress we show who we really are, so lets look at it. He is surrounded by people who hate him because…he is a self proclaimed conservative. Of all the things they could bone pick, they pick this issue, and stuck with it for a rather long time.
Did Beck become unhinged? Was he combative? Did he raise his voice? No, he remained calm and didn’t sink to their level.
Did Beck cower? No, he was willing to apologize where he was wrong, but he didn’t sink into his chair like Cramer did.
Beck’s success has been a byproduct of Rush, but that could be said by any AM radio talker…as AM was dead until Rush came. But he isn’t Rush, he is who he is. His success is based on hours of hard work and by being true to his audience.
Conservative Voice on May 20, 2009 at 6:51 PM

Except that progressoverpeace’s use of the commas isn’t excessive. The commas used are sufficient to distinguish clearly between the two adjectives used to describe the noun (”error”).
Sans commas, although the sentence would still be grammatically correct, the word “spelling” could be misinterpreted as a noun. Using commas in this way — to avoid confusion — is perfectly acceptable grammar.

That is only assuming he lied about the seats. Coming over or being called is a small issue in the story. One person can miss remember that little detail and not harm the point of the story.
If he lied about the seats (which he wasn’t allowed to defend, because they kept going to back to issue of coming or being called over issue), then I would agree. If he “lied” about if he was called over or came over, I would not have an issue. The reason is that is a small issue that maybe to to mismemory.

The bottom line is:
Was Whoopi and Brabara just upset because Glenn spoke out of class to the everyman, they claim to be?
Were those seats reserved as Glenn stated?
So far, all that miserable waif and that peposterously disgusting Goldberg got was an admission that Beck approached Walters as opposed to him being “summoned” by her (in his theatrical tone) on his radio show.
