Whoopi to Glenn Beck: “You’re a lying sack of dog mess”

posted at 1:50 pm on May 20, 2009 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

It’s no idle insult, as you’ll see: She’s got videotape to support her case. Consider this a palate cleanser if you like, but not since Jon Stewart chewed out Jim Cramer have I seen a guest look more uncomfortable — or give more ground — than Beck does here. The passage about whether “commentators” have the same responsibility to check their facts as “journalists” is especially cringeworthy. It’s a trainwreck, but like any trainwreck, it’s impossible to look away. Enjoy.

Let me try to understand. A former Comedianne who refered to a sitting President while talking in vulgar terms about her private parts in a public banquet and an elderly woman who admitted to an affair last year are berating a radio and television host about something involved seats on a train? Why didn’t they just do a regular interview with him? Was it beyond their pay grade? He was nice to Whoopi when she was on his Headline News show.

kingsjester on May 20, 2009 at 2:20 PM

I’m still scratching my head wondering just what Beck (or any conservative for that matter) thought he would accomplish by going on that show…

you really don’t get it, do you? What do you think is most important to Beck? His media career or being a conservative? Same with Rush.

Grow Fins on May 20, 2009 at 2:21 PM

How many times did I just watch him turn to Barbara, look her in the eye and apologize?

Stupid of him to fudge the story (a stupid story to even tell..by anyone that was there..lol)

I don’t care. I love Glenn Beck. I wish he would have asked Whoopie which views she disagreed with him on.

bridgetown on May 20, 2009 at 2:21 PM

No joke. Anyone remember awhile ago when she was telling a story and started to say “my maid” but cut herself off mid sentence, stuttering to then say, “the woman who cleans my house.”

She knows she’s elitist, but she’s embarrassed by it.

Esthier on May 20, 2009 at 2:19 PM

Hahaha… Never saw that. Look, she’s free to be elitist, but that doesn’t mean I have to respect her. In some ways I was more upset with her because at least Whoopi was being very forward whereas “I don’t know the difference between a reporter and a commenter” Walters was being somewhat passive in her attacks. Grow some, Barbara.

Upstater85 on May 20, 2009 at 2:21 PM

I can’t watch but couldn’t they both be correct? Mr. Beck was indeed told this by Amtrak folks but the ladies had no idea. Is that the only case of of his “lying”?

Cindy Munford on May 20, 2009 at 2:22 PM

Beck also claimed Whoopi was drinking a Snapple Peach Tea, but it was actually a Diet Snapple Peach Tea. LIAR!!!

Jim Treacher on May 20, 2009 at 2:22 PM

Aren’t Beck and KO on your TV? Or do you only like people on your radio but NOT the TV?

I never really watch KO or Beck or Hannity or any of the commentators on TV. I only catch Rush on my way to meet my walking buddies, and frankly that’s because I have poor radio reception where I live, so it’s either Rush or Reilly. I can’t pick up FM here.

So I realize it isn’t “logical.” But radio seems …. easier just to flip, I guess. TV programs seem more of a commitment.

I agree. It’s probably dumb. But that’s me.

I don’t even like the U-tube reports by KO. I quit watching those last year. Why would I do that to myself willingly? It’s like watching Survivor!

From the clip I watch in the quotes thread from last night, Glenn Beck is only a conservative on fiscal matters, and maybe political corruption. But he is a libertarian on all other matters, even for small government when it comes to national defense. I don’t think he would pass Ronald Reagan’s litmus test.

Why did he go on the show?…because it exposes to people who see Fox like a cross to a vampire.

Why, in the name of all that’s holy, do conservatives bother with those witches??? I mean, seriously… they’ve got their panties all in a bunch about who spoke to whom first on the Amtrack train for pete’s sake. Like it matters.

They’re like a snarky bunch of high school girls, with no more intellect or emotional depth than that. It’s just good sense to treat them that way. (Although, I have to admit.. {blush}… if I was Beck, I’d spend the rest of the week going “neener, neener, neener” at them just for the mad joy of ruffling their feathers and watching them act like the fools they are.)

Grow Fins on May 20, 2009 at 2:21 PM

I’m so sorry, but I’ve heard few things more ridiculous than this. Do I believe pundits are out to get money more than they are to win converts or present their political message? Sure, often.

But only someone with no concept of conservative, liberal, American entertainment, media, politics or anything else remotely connected to Rush or Glen could possibly believe that someone would choose Right political opinions in order to make money.

Unless of course they want to be the Right person who suddenly sees the light and bashes Republicans.

To put it in perspective, Ann Coulter who’s had five or more best sellers was rejected by publishers repeatedly in trying to get her first book publish. But Miss McCain, a 24-year-old recently out of college with little but her father’s name and her disdain of almost everything Republican, already has an offer on a book deal.

I can’t watch the video either. I too am puzzled why Glenn choose to be on The View. Yesterday one of his callers said that O’Reilly does well on that show and Glenn replied (paraphrasing), “O’Reilly loves that kind of verbal combat.” My guess is that Walters and Goldberg were more upset at being portrayed as elitists than any “lie” Glenn told about them. To waste an entire segment on this trivia is ridiculous.

THAT CLIP never gets to Beck’s chance to say what he had to say about ‘RESERVATIONS’–SOMETHING HAPPENED on that train dealing with saving seats, and rather than allow Beck to say whatever, The View two women are already riled into a tissy fit. Whoopi seems to misrepresent who got there first, since Barbara is talking about Glenn there when she arrived looking for seats.

Why go onto The View unless you want to deal with the tramp vamps? Mormons don’t have penance, but Beck must feel the need to be exploited, just as he exploits, tit for tat.

maverick muse on May 20, 2009 at 2:32 PM

First, in the context of a blog post, what the hell is a “palate cleanser”?

Secondly, a pox on all their houses. The creatures (other than lovely Elizabeth) who squat on those studio chairs on the View are vile, moronic wenches. But Glenn Beck is the most pompous, insincere a@#h&^e on talk radio or TV going. He is simply unwatchable. In the course of trying to demonstrate what elitists Walters and Goldberg are, the idiot reveals himself as an elitist. Who, other than an elitist, would whine about how he didn’t get a reserved seat on Amtrak but “they did.”

Esthier on May 20, 2009 at 2:33 PM

Well, where’s the rest of the story…

The minutes before and after the snip they presented from Glenn Becks radio show.

Could it be that someone asked him, hey, where were you the other day.

VIP’s are having trouble finding seats. Could it be that they asked someone who works on the train, hey, can you find us a seat. The worker radios, hey, any open seats? Other worker says, yeah, I got a couple here, I’ll ‘reserve’ them.

So, Beck misspoke about part of it, which hmmm, happens to everyone. And then gave the story from his point of view.

A lot of the posters on the board are making excuses for Beck just as many democrats are making for Peloser about her lies. Beck must have been out of his mind to walk into this ambush. They were going to nail him to the wall one way or the other. By exaggerating the initial encounter with them in such a negative way, he made it too easy. I like Beck and really don’t have any respect for the View’s “dynamic duo” at all. Face it, Beck got his butt handed to him by a halfwit and a has-been. Not smart.

Abby Adams on May 20, 2009 at 2:38 PM

So … the big lie was just that he went over to Walters instead of her calling him over? That’s it?

And for Whoopi to assume that because an Amtrak person said that the seats were reserved somehow implies that the bitties, themselves, asked that they be reserved is kind of stupid – as is par for the course for Whoopi. There was no question in my mind, hearing Beck tell the story, that the Amtrak people were going out of their way to accomodate the ol’ bitties, without any prompting from them.

Making anything out of this is pathetic and silly.

progressoverpeace on May 20, 2009 at 2:38 PM

Asking a lib to look back? They can’t do it. That’s why the keep hanging on to all the same failed socialist policies for ever and ever. They will imagine that Republican policies of the past failed, but those are usually the policies of socialist-lite Republicans…like Bush. Even though, before 2006 Democrats came in, unemployment ran 4.5-5% for the longest time in HISTORY. One of the things libs’ll forget.

No. The “lie” is that Barbara Walters asked him to come over to talk, and that actually he asked them to come over to talk.

Now when he did this on his show, he also added a Babwa Walters snide tone to his description of her calling him over. Which does make his telling of it rather embellished.

But it’s just STUPID, and nothing to get worked up over.

The real thing that ticked Whoopi off is that they had met with Beck before, and he seemed like a nice fellow. But then he goes off on his show and makes fun of them.

But the joke is that Whoopi and Joy and Barbara all think that they are really something special. If I were Billy Mumy in a Twilight Zone episode, I would disappear them pronto.

connertown on May 20, 2009 at 2:58 PM

Thats it?

At first I thought there was going to be some real “gotcha” moments….but come on. A commentator who is know for doing vocal characters and comedy, doing…comedic characterizations! STOP THE PRESSES.

The “lie” was about who came up to who first and having seat reservations?? Such slander…such character assassination!

How about BabaWawa implying that Beck never checks any facts before reporting them?

Seriously…who might have thought that such righteous indignation would be spawned be something so trivial.
Do they hold themselves up to the same standard on some of the crap they robotically bob their heads in agreement to? How about Moabamas lies…not to them..but to the entire country in order to further his ideological goals?…oh, thats right..when he was on their show they got the vapors over his sexiness, but slandered McCain when he was on…..I wonder if they checked their facts before reporting?
Pathetic.

PMS? I would think they are past the hill for that. I’ll have to check my facts though.

Itchee Dryback on May 20, 2009 at 2:58 PM

Oh, goodness…..Beck isn’t a major player. He obviously cooked this up to get mistreated. He’ll get 10 shows outta this, maybe more.

AnninCA on May 20, 2009 at 2:54 PM

Beck spent a slew of time yesterday (radio) talking about going on The View. I switched over to sports talk.

Were he to talk about this for 10 shows, he would be dead to me.

Then again, I feel no loyalty to the guy. Maybe other people would suffer through it.

He obviously cooked this up to get mistreated.

AnninCA on May 20, 2009 at 2:54 PM

Does that really make sense to you? I’m having a hard time comprehending that it does.

Esthier on May 20, 2009 at 3:02 PM

Big effin surprise. meh.

HornetSting on May 20, 2009 at 3:02 PM

Asking a lib to look back? They can’t do it.

kirkill on May 20, 2009 at 2:58 PM

Of course unless it’s to trash Bush, then they can’t seem to moveon. (sorry for the bad joke, everyone)

Esthier on May 20, 2009 at 3:03 PM

Did they ever get to the views that Whoopi doesn’t like so much, or did they just spend their time defending Baba Wawa against the indignity of Beck’s impersonation (like they never do schtuff like that on The View).

Seems to me this was a coordinated, premeditated ambush to paint him as a liar before he got onto Obama’s socialist leaning, the ACORN whistleblowers, the unsustainability of the Obama-nible Showman’s massive spending plans, etc.

L.N. Smithee on May 20, 2009 at 3:03 PM

He should of gone on the View in black face make up.

2Tru2Tru on May 20, 2009 at 3:03 PM

Thats it?

Itchee Dryback on May 20, 2009 at 2:58 PM

Yep. That’s it. The terrible, terrible lie that Baba Wawa called Beck over instead of Beck saying that he went over to her. Oooooh.

And Baba Wawa trying to claim that Beck didn’t check his facts on “the reservations” is just, plain idiotic. All Beck said was that the Amtrak employee said that the seats were reserved for the ol’ bitties, not that they had reserved them. Anyone who rides Amtrak on a regular basis knows that they will do things for people they like, without any prompting.

progressoverpeace on May 20, 2009 at 3:05 PM

I do sort of like Rush, but I am certain it’s because he’s on my radio. And when he starts spouting nonsense, which is often, I just switch with my button.
AnninCA on May 20, 2009 at 2:14 PM

Must suck to have a TV that doesn’t have an off button. Oh wait,

Branch Rickey on May 20, 2009 at 3:05 PM

moveon. (sorry for the bad joke, everyone)

Esthier on May 20, 2009 at 3:03 PM

LOL!!!!!!!

Branch Rickey on May 20, 2009 at 3:06 PM

Beck has a ‘comedy’ tour coming up, he needs to make these stupid appearances to promote it. What a waste of time.

cannonball on May 20, 2009 at 3:07 PM

The View? Why bother? Who watches this program? Folks in the nursing homes who can’t reach the remote?

Vera71 on May 20, 2009 at 3:08 PM

Come on Allah, and you said you were going to not be able to keep up with the blogging this week while Ed was out? This was a useless post and is completely irrelevant. So Beck exaggerated a bit and was called on it. To compare this to the Cramer/Stewart moment is ridiculous.

Granted Beck should be a bit more prepared for these type of gotchas and should watch what he says, but as far as this being news worthy…ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

davek70 on May 20, 2009 at 3:09 PM

The best part of that video was that Joy was shut out of the conversation.

yogi41 on May 20, 2009 at 3:09 PM

I won’t watch video of the View, but I can’t wait to see Biden on the show and get his grilling….

d1carter on May 20, 2009 at 3:09 PM

A serious discussion with a woman named “Whoopie”?

faraway on May 20, 2009 at 3:13 PM

Glenn Beck lied. Children and puppies died.

I believe the death penalty is in order here.

hillbillyjim on May 20, 2009 at 3:14 PM

it’s not about reserved seats or ivestigative reporting, it’s about taking Beck down a few pegs because he’s gaining in popularity. The way Whoopi and Barbara were waving him off indicates he walked in to a trap.
