Whoopi to Glenn Beck: “You’re a lying sack of dog mess”

posted at 1:50 pm on May 20, 2009 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

It’s no idle insult, as you’ll see: She’s got videotape to support her case. Consider this a palate cleanser if you like, but not since Jon Stewart chewed out Jim Cramer have I seen a guest look more uncomfortable — or give more ground — than Beck does here. The passage about whether “commentators” have the same responsibility to check their facts as “journalists” is especially cringeworthy. It’s a trainwreck, but like any trainwreck, it’s impossible to look away. Enjoy.

Who watches this dreck? Hospitalized people and psych wards?

How bored or medicated do their viewers need to be?

Janos Hunyadi on May 20, 2009 at 1:54 PM

So when they get Anderson Cooper on their show, they’ll be equally assertive in their interview, right?

MadisonConservative on May 20, 2009 at 1:54 PM

Hey, if the dude lied, he needs to be called on it.

Matticus Finch on May 20, 2009 at 1:54 PM

No, this was a disaster.

The ENTIRE segment was on “why did you lie” when i still dont understand how that lie was horrible but how Pelosi’s is ok, huh Joy??????

The second segment was barbara making fun of him crying, then being “shocked shocked!” when Glenn said “youre making fun of me”

A for effort, F- for practice

MadisonConservative on May 20, 2009 at 1:54 PM

About the same as when they had Baracky on, they all (except Elizabeth) wanted to bear his child. Liberal sluts.

kirkill on May 20, 2009 at 1:56 PM

I have seen this show a few times in the laundromat. I regretted it every time. Poor Elizabeth.

joe_doufu on May 20, 2009 at 1:56 PM

Now, that was comedic.

Upstater85 on May 20, 2009 at 1:56 PM

Yeah, because none of the “girls” have ever lied on the air…

/shakes head and wanders out of the thread…

Romeo13 on May 20, 2009 at 1:56 PM

Glenn Beck a preening demagogue AND loose with the truth? Wow, what a shock.

McLovin on May 20, 2009 at 1:57 PM

I wish he would have been able to give his side without being interrupted. I wasn’t sure if their claim was wrong about the assigned seats…as he didn’t get to fully explain that factoid. Either way it wasn’t a great representation for him.

Not like Jim Cramer though. He gave up everything against stewart. Glenn at least tried to state his case.

therightscoop on May 20, 2009 at 1:57 PM

Matticus Finch on May 20, 2009 at 1:54 PM

I don’t like Beck much, and now I know why. Good gracious, but Whoopi is dead right on this one.

AnninCA on May 20, 2009 at 1:57 PM

I have never watched the view. I can not for the life of me understand why any person would let these gals talk to you as they seem to do. I am sorry Glenn did this. I do enjoy him on Fox.

how ironic that we have bawawalters scolding glenn beck about ‘checking facts’… how those chatty chicks can sit there with a straight face day after day is beyond me. Almost as odd as the welfare-recipients who sit and watch that trash day after day. we are definately living in an alternative reality

gatorboy on May 20, 2009 at 1:59 PM

No, he also lied about seats being reserved, obviously. He painted them to be elitists, when they aren’t.

His credibility is blown, and Barbara’s challenge that being a “COMMENTATOR” means you get to fudge facts is also dead on.

AnninCA on May 20, 2009 at 1:59 PM

Glenn should have just said ‘his democrat side got loose without adult supervision.’

meci on May 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM

One of the things that allowed Rush Limbaugh to become a success was when he started his national show, he knew anything inflammatory would have to be backed up with facts, or he’d be destroyed. Rush’s success and the success of conservative talk radio over the last 20 years has made it easier for people like Beck to be heard, but it also means it’s been easier to become lazy about not protecting youself from attacks from the left, by saying either contradictory things or statements you can’t back up, whether it’s about political issues or Acela seating on Joe Biden’s favorite rail line.

Losing to Whoopi should make Beck feel about like the Patriots after their Super Bowl loss to the Giants. But if he wants to play in the majors and go on shows outside of Fox News to challenge the left on their own territory, he’s got to learn that in the age of the Internet, anything you’ve ever said on TV or radio can and will be used against you.

jon1979 on May 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM

That’s why people watch The View, for the hard-hitting issues of the day. Like whether Whoopi and Barbara had reserved seats on a train.

Apparently he claimed that Barbara and Whoopi are elitist… Naw…

Upstater85 on May 20, 2009 at 2:02 PM

The fact that he didn’t fight back harder is just a testament to his character. I think he tries really hard to be an honestly nice guy, and he didn’t want to make a fight out of it.

jimmy the notable on May 20, 2009 at 2:02 PM

He should have defended himself more…cus they were obviously wrong.

Chudi on May 20, 2009 at 2:02 PM

I don’t understand why he would even be on the show. These people are deranged. The proponents of Socialism have an emotional problem. Starting with an inferiority complex. They need to be taken care of. They want the State to take care of them. They think that the State knows what is better for them, than they do. They are incapable of controlling their own lives.

You can’t be rational with the irrational. When they see or hear Obama, they remind me of the film footage of those lining the streets, when Hitler passed by. Wild-eyed and crazed and pathological.

OhEssYouCowboys on May 20, 2009 at 2:02 PM

I’d love to hear what Glenn Beck had to say about Barbara and Whoopies version of events, but he didnt’ really get much chance to reply.

And Beck finally got a chance to respond, he started talking about bringing on the 3 people who were with him, who might corroborate his story. Then, Barbara didn’t want to talk about the Amtrak stuff any longer.

Glenn claims that Amtrack personnel told him that there were seats ‘reserved’… Glenn later observes Whoopi and Barbara enter the train and they they then engage in a conversation initiated by Barbara.

Whoopi/Barbara contend that they arrived on the train and had a hard time finding seats – once they did, Glenn appraoched them and they had a brief and polite exchange.

Yeah – really shocking stuff. Definately a panty-in-a-bunch worthy ‘lie’.

Yeah, it just seems like a small thing being blown way out of proportion. And he made fun of them? Yeah… that’s what he does. And apparently they made fun of him too. Good… that’s what they do, as well.

I understand he mis-spoke, misremembered, or exagerrated the story. But that’s kind of his gig. He needs a story to be entertaining. If he fudges a few details about an insignificant personal story that in no way impugns someone else, who cares?

I mean, he’s not the Vice President or anything talking about life-and-death flights he was totally definitely on.

Did he lie? If someone with Amtrak (or who said they were with Amtrax) said that he couldn’t have those seats, then who’s lying?

We only KNOW he lied about Barbara coming over vs. him coming over (though apparently Barb came to this area to sit, so maybe that’s what he meant, but he doesn’t argue this point).

hawksruleva on May 20, 2009 at 2:05 PM

Upstater85 on May 20, 2009 at 2:17 PM

I’m still scratching my head wondering just what Beck (or any conservative for that matter) thought he would accomplish by going on that show…

I mean is it simply ego to think that somehow you will be the one to bait the lion in his den and walk out unscathed? There are certain things that can be taken for granted as fact: The sky is blue, the sun will rise tomorrow, and conservatives will get ambushed and reamed on the View

Sugarbuzz on May 20, 2009 at 2:18 PM

That’s rich being called a liar by Barbara Walters who lied about her affair she had with a senator back in the 70’s.

And Whoopi never misspeaks either…like saying she would be back in slavery if McCain wins.

Beck exaggerated his story for his audience. Kinda like the same thing Barbara and Whoopi did here. As far as the other part of the story, we’ll never know because they sandbagged him so he couldn’t answer.

I don’t watch this show as I don’t like any of them, including Elizabeth.

But still, Beck is the flip side of KO.

*blech on all of these guys*

So the man who has a “worst person in the world” on a regular basis (every night?) is no worse than a man who gets emotional and cries on TV?

That statement, despite appearances to the contrary, is completely biased, and I’m not even a Glenn Beck fan.

What’s this nasty point? That Barbara Walters is somehow elitist? Please… as if she isn’t.

Upstater85 on May 20, 2009 at 2:10 PM

No joke. Anyone remember awhile ago when she was telling a story and started to say “my maid” but cut herself off mid sentence, stuttering to then say, “the woman who cleans my house.”

She knows she’s elitist, but she’s embarrassed by it.

Curious to see how he responds to this on his show. Owning up reveals character. If he spins he’s a hypocrite.

I hope he owns up, I like the guy.

What if he, say, brings on other passengers who were on the train with him to corroborate his version of events? I wasn’t on the train, so I don’t know whether his version or Barb/Whoopie’s version were more accurate.

Either way, it was a great way for the View crowd to avoid talking about any substantive issues. I mean, what issues does Investigative Reporter Whoppi Goldberg disagree with him on?

hawksruleva on May 20, 2009 at 2:12 PM

Point taken. I confess that I didn’t (couldn’t bear to) watch the entire video. I shouldn’t have commented without seeing the whole thing.

He probably shouldn’t have bothered going on the stupid show in the first place, but when you call out other to show a courageous stand in the face of harsh and often unfair opposition you sometimes need to show that you’re willing to do the same.

pugwriter on May 20, 2009 at 2:19 PM

Why would any sane person go on that show with those shrews?

notagool on May 20, 2009 at 2:19 PM

The View Manufactured Outrage!!??!!

canopfor on May 20, 2009 at 2:19 PM

What’s the big deal?
On his radio show Beck said Baba Wawa called him over, but in reality it was he that called Baba Wawa over.
Seriously…big deal!
They were chewing him out simply because they don’t like him. It had nothing to do with such a trivial offense.
Obama and Pelosi have told monumental lies that should offend everyone, but Baba Wawa and Whoopi Goldberg would never attack them the way they did to Beck.

OxyCon on May 20, 2009 at 2:19 PM

They have proven to be the elitists they are….Whoopi gives him a the look, because he didn’t go on his show after the meeting and kiss the hand.

This whole thing is about who approached who on a train?! Are you kidding me?

Emily M. on May 20, 2009 at 2:14 PM

Nope. He claimed on the radio (in that video clip they showed) that Barbara approached him. He also claimed that he wasn’t allowed to sit in certain seats, because they were ‘reserved’. Apparently you can’t reserve seats on Amtrack. They made the whole thing about the approaching issue and skirted away from the elitist issue.

bikermailman on May 20, 2009 at 2:19 PM

he’s got to learn that in the age of the Internet, anything you’ve ever said on TV or radio can and will be used against you.

jon1979 on May 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM

He knows, which explains his nervous fear coming to The View.
