To those who did not like John Piper saying, "Some of us wept for joy at your inauguration." must look at the context of his message. He was rhetorically addressing the president with the "us" refering to Americans.

Take a phreakin’ embryology course, stupid mouthbreathers.

You had had 8 years to overturn Roe.
It sure ain’t gonna happen now.

strangelet on May 18, 2009 at 2:09 PM

I think what this offensive and rude troll is saying is that committing genocide against the unborn of our very own species is somehow the enlightened thing to do, or something.

Many of us did study embryology. However, unlike the course you took, ours wasn't taught by Joseph Mengele.

I am a Christian.

I am Prolife.

And videos like this one drive me nuts. Because I hardly see abortion as a religious issue. Unless, that is, atheists and agnostics are now saying that believing that the taking human life is wrong, is a religious belief.

Yes, God did say "do not murder"- but is this not something that we can all agree on? That murder is wrong?

The fetus is a human.
The fetus is unique- of it's own DNA.
The fetus is alive.
The fetus is innocent.

Therefore, abortion is the murder of a human being, and is wrong. Nothing religious about it.

Although I believe that abortion is the willful and premeditated termination of human life (aka murder) I do not believe anything in the first 45 seconds of the video either. It is arrogant.

I am just glad you are pro-life. (No one says you have to be logically consistent!)

Another over the top, hysterical video which does nothing to reduce the number of terminations. Why don’t these people spend time promoting birth control education? Oh wait, they can’t. Sex is a no, no until your are married.

LOL!

To what degree must American Public School education be dumbed down so that the general public can no longer appreciate the electrifying clarity of this very American idiom, peaching.
.
I have no doubt that Johnathan Edwards, Lincoln and Martin Luther King would much appreciate John Piper’s moving rhetoric.
.

In regard to the second part, promoting birth control is what got us into this mess. Before Wade vs. Roe the promotion of artificial birth control was sufficiently effective to decouple sex from marriage and to increase sexual promiscuity in American society. However, artificial birth control was and continues to be insufficiently reliable in the real world (as opposed to in the lab) to reduce the numbers of unwanted pregnancies. The reasons for this are probably instinctual. As a consequence the number to unwanted pregnancies significantly increased. Abortion is used as a backup because in practice artificial birth control has never worked to reduce the numbers of unwanted pregnancies in unmarried women (beginning at the Sexual Revolution). The pre-Sexual Revolution “sexual economy”, which relied on absence and a reliable promise of marriage for a single women who became pregnant from sex outside of marriage, was far more effective a reducing illegitimacy than the post Sexual Revolution regime of artificial birth control and abortion combined.

Ironically, Mr. Piper says people wept for joy at the Abortionist-in-Chief's inauguration. I've wept for joy exactly once in my lifetime: when the doctor lifted my precious baby boy from his mother during her C-section.

So the parade of idioticy continues unabated with yet another "robotic" troll:

strangelet:

I am still awaiting your responses.

Look….until the LIFE! warriors (including Benedict the Bad Shepherd) can accept that a differentiated cell clump is not “human life”, this argument goes no where.

Correction: until the LIFE! warriors can adaquately organize themselves and their views and both sides drop the outrageous and idiotic generalizations, this will go nowhere.

Also, how big does that "differentiated cell clump" have to be in order to be classified as sentient? How long along in its development cycle? How long after conception?

DO YOU REALIZE THAT YOU are a "Differentiated cell clump?"

First tri-abortions have to be free, legal, and easy.

Under what circumstances and with what level of parental consent? Should we make them so easy that one can literally FORCE a woman to have an abortion? Much depends on these parameters, fool, and while I am one of the more moderate and ambivalent individuals on this site in regards to abortion, even I am not foolish enough to not recognize the importance of these conditions.

Take a phreakin’ embryology course, stupid mouthbreathers.

I have, idiot. And I also have dealt with some births and abortions on a first-or-secondhand basis.

Have you?

And I am a mouthbreather. Indeed, I have it on my medical file and make no secret of it. I go to bed almost every night with a C-PAC to perserve my oxygen flow.

And I can still kick your sorry arse all over these forums.

And just because I am a mouthbreather does not mean the rest are, much less that they are "stupid." Such generalizations merely shoot you in the foot.

You had had 8 years to overturn Roe.
It sure ain’t gonna happen now.

Remind me about "Separate but Equal."

While I am moderately pro-Roe, I realize it could be overturned.

Rod:

While I appreciate and understand your passion and agree wholeheartedly with all you’ve written,

Thank you.

It’s like arguing with a candy machine that spits out a Snickers when you paid for a Mars Bar. At best, you are wasting your time and at worst, allowing him to, yet again, hijack another thread. (Which, being the class A hypocrite I am, I’m contributing to.)

It’s like arguing with a candy machine that spits out a Snickers when you paid for a Mars Bar. At best, you are wasting your time and at worst, allowing him to, yet again, hijack another thread. (Which, being the class A hypocrite I am, I’m contributing to.)

I’m not sure you understand that, with athensboy, you’re responding to a robot.

A robot? I believe that comparison is an insult to robots. Whoever it is literally has no ability to argue rationally or to rise to the task. I know. The reference to "replies" refers to my previous rebuttals of him, where I am still waiting for a counter (which never comes). I know what he is like.

It’s like arguing with a candy machine that spits out a Snickers when you paid for a Mars Bar.

Nope, because at least then you have something tasty to eat (those allergic to peanuts nonwithstanding).

At best, you are wasting your time and at worst, allowing him to, yet again, hijack another thread. (Which, being the class A hypocrite I am, I’m contributing to.)

Actually, in my previous experience, the opposite is true. When somebody bothers to lay out the case in detail and persistently STAY on him and not let him do anything without nailing him, he tends to bolt. In addition, if nothing else, they at least deny him the ability to get the "final say."

My comments are specific to athensboy who has proven to have neither the desire nor the intellect to debate anyone. His posts are limited to name calling which he cuts and pastes from his limited archive of liberal banality for one reason: to draw attention to himself so as to feed his screwed up ego.

True, and I know that well enough.

Like any pest, feeding him keeps him coming back for more. Leave him be. He will slink away.

I don't believe so. He tends to stick on it and unless burned off, often will. Which is why I always tend to pound him in length and in detail to trigger his escape tendencies. He is an idiot, and one I don't want to see, but my experiences have led me to believe that the best remedy is to respond with overwhelming force against him.

If your heart is to defend the faith against those that would attack it,

Ah, here's another thing: I'm not seeking to "defend the faith," persee, as I am just your normal, extremely cynical Diest, and my stance on abortion is that of critical ambivalence (I don't like it, but I don't see much that can cope with the issues at hand) at best. My main objective is to defend my values (which are most in common with Conservative principles than anything else, but are distinctly seperate on many occasions) as best as I can. And if that means laying the smackdown on Obama, athensboy, or extremely naive preachers with buyer's angst, than I am perfectly willing to do so.

then I would suggest you choose a worthy opponent within a venue that’s topic-relevant and related and do battle there.

And I shall, and I often have. Indeed, I probably spend far more time doing that than I do moping up after the "drooling" trolls. But I believe that mopping up the "robots" is also necessary because failure to do so will condemn us by our silence and leave the field to them.

I would enjoy reading that, your time would be well-spent, and you might actually help lead some poor liberal fool out of the darkness.

All of which I hope to do, and am working on, and have been. However, somebody has to clean up after athensboy, and I volunteer.

And besides, we probably will not hear from him again for the duration of this thread, as I mentioned: he usually runs from my counters.

I know. The reference to “replies” refers to my previous rebuttals of him, where I am still waiting for a counter (which never comes).

In addition, if nothing else, they at least deny him the ability to get the “final say.”

I don’t believe so. He tends to stick on it and unless burned off, often will. Which is why I always tend to pound him in length and in detail to trigger his escape tendencies. He is an idiot, and one I don’t want to see, but my experiences have led me to believe that the best remedy is to respond with overwhelming force against him.

If your heart is to defend the faith against those that would attack it,

Ah, here’s another thing: I’m not seeking to “defend the faith,” persee, as I am just your normal, extremely cynical Diest, and my stance on abortion is that of critical ambivalence (I don’t like it, but I don’t see much that can cope with the issues at hand) at best. My main objective is to defend my values (which are most in common with Conservative principles than anything else, but are distinctly seperate on many occasions) as best as I can. And if that means laying the smackdown on Obama, athensboy, or extremely naive preachers with buyer’s angst, than I am perfectly willing to do so.

then I would suggest you choose a worthy opponent within a venue that’s topic-relevant and related and do battle there.

And I shall, and I often have. Indeed, I probably spend far more time doing that than I do moping up after the “drooling” trolls. But I believe that mopping up the “robots” is also necessary because failure to do so will condemn us by our silence and leave the field to them.

I think the key is that mindsets & attitudes are slow to change; but they definitely can change. I have always been conservative but I was actually pro-choice some years ago. It was the easier stand to take which is usually true for liberal causes. I now can't imagine being anything other than pro-life. I think the good news is people can change in the direction I did...but I can't see many pro-life people changing to pro-death.

Arguing about abortion is a waste of time, energy and resources. The opinions of a mere citizen have no chance of influencing anything. Even the opinions of politicians have no value. This issue is in the hands of the courts. Only the opinions of judges matter. No one in America - save judges - can have any impact on abortion.

American judges' obsessive imposition of infanticide will eventually cause the destruction of the great American experiment. So sad.

Another over the top, hysterical video which does nothing to reduce the number of terminations. Why don't these people spend time promoting birth control education? Oh wait, they can't. Sex is a no, no until your are married.

Look….until the LIFE! warriors (including Benedict the Bad Shepherd) can accept that a differentiated cell clump is not “human life”, this argument goes no where.
First tri-abortions have to be free, legal, and easy.
Take a phreakin’ embryology course, stupid mouthbreathers.

You had had 8 years to overturn Roe.
It sure ain’t gonna happen now.

So your reason for declaring said "differentiated cell-clump" anything other than a human child would be ... what? Will that clump ever be anything but a human child unless it dies?

You know what it is. You only play these puerile definition games because they give you comfort for a morally untenable position.

and nothing worth getting too upset about.

If not this, then is anything worth getting upset about? This is a foundational issue for our country. One side throws all morality into the crapper, and the other defends innocence.

The video was just fantastic. Powerful words, strikingly presented.

To parallel these sentiments, victims of domestic violence often claim that the violence done to them is a family matter. From the point of conception these littlest people have a DNA all their own. These little beings are not a mass of cells, scab or hang nail. These little beings are as helpless as any child. If any of us have souls, these littlest beings have souls. A society is only great if it can protect the weak and defenseless. We don't hate or judge anybody, we just wish President Obama would take time to reflect on the words he speaks.

I never advocated abortion, would never have had one and would have done my best to encourage a friend or family member to rethink the decision and offer alternative options. Yet I was someone who leaned pro-choice, simply because I thought we should have the right to have the opportunity make that choice, I have since changed my mind. I evidently had my head buried (I would prefer to think in the sand, but I'm sure there are those who might think other locations!!) because in my naivety I assumed abortions were not available after the first trimester. OMG... when I found out that I was so wrong, I immediately changed my opinion. When I found out that babies were left to die after late term "abortions" that's wrong on far too many levels - morally, ethically, legally? (I mean, come on, you go to jail for animal abuse) and broke my heart. How in the name of all that's holy (or simply with compassion) can we allow this to happen? We need to have loud voices over the prohibition of this atrocity. We need to educate, educate and educate somemore. We need to strongly offer the Mother alternatives. And, I'm sure I'll get slammed for this, but in light of all our tax dollars that go to crap, I"d rather pay someone a stipend to carry the baby to term and give it away for adoption than pay for her abortion.

BTW, a couple of days ago, I saw my granddaughter's (due in Oct) ultrasound. The beauty of her tiny body brought tears to my eyes. Her little heartbeat, her rolls and stretches, watching her suck her thumb served as a reminder to me that millions of precious lives are being ripped from their mothers and left to die a cold, loveless death. This should never be allowed to happen.

By that guys logic then the aborted fetuses live on infinitely. So no harm , no foul.

While I appreciate and understand your passion and agree wholeheartedly with all you've written, I'm not sure you understand that, with athensboy, you're responding to a robot. It's like arguing with a candy machine that spits out a Snickers when you paid for a Mars Bar. At best, you are wasting your time and at worst, allowing him to, yet again, hijack another thread. (Which, being the class A hypocrite I am, I'm contributing to.)

My comments are specific to athensboy who has proven to have neither the desire nor the intellect to debate anyone. His posts are limited to name calling which he cuts and pastes from his limited archive of liberal banality for one reason: to draw attention to himself so as to feed his screwed up ego. Like any pest, feeding him keeps him coming back for more. Leave him be. He will slink away.

If your heart is to defend the faith against those that would attack it, then I would suggest you choose a worthy opponent within a venue that's topic-relevant and related and do battle there. I would enjoy reading that, your time would be well-spent, and you might actually help lead some poor liberal fool out of the darkness.
