Obama at Notre Dame: Hey, let’s be open-minded about child murder
posted at 6:43 pm on May 17, 2009 by Allahpundit
As expected, a heaping scoopful of pap about tolerance and dialogue aimed at defusing the issue ahead of 2012. Realistically, this was the only rhetorical move he could have made, but it’s rich to find him urging both sides to continue trying to persuade each other when he didn’t have the stones to use this as an opportunity to make the case for choice. I admit, this isn’t my issue — I’d accept legal abortion in the very, very early stages of pregnancy, before the embryo can feel pain — but I sympathize enough with true-believing pro-lifers to see how insulting the “agree to disagree” approach must be to the depth of their conviction. Huckabee, provocatively, has framed the enormity of abortion as similar to that of slavery; just as slavery had to be expunged nationally via constitutional amendment, so does abortion in his opinion. Once you’ve come to see it that way, how “open-minded” can you really be in disagreement? To borrow The One’s phrase, what “fair-minded words” would be regarded as fair in defense of slavery?
Fox News has the full transcript. I expected a somewhat divided crowd, but watch the very beginning of the speech at Greg Hengler’s site and note how “raucous” the reception was. It stayed that way during the most controversial part of the day, when Obama got his honorary degree: According to the LA Times, “Virtually all of the graduates stood and applauded as Obama received his honorary degree.” I’m giving you two clips, one from CNN of the meat and potatoes about “dialogue” or whatever and the other via Gateway Pundit of the few moments of protest that interrupted him, quickly drowned out by boos and chants from the O-bots in the graduating class. If you’re wondering what your party’s chairman used this occasion to say about abortion — well, no, actually, I don’t think you want to know.

Very well, I’ll remember to quote you in the entirety, even though I was editing for clarity.
And, you are now giving me advice on how to be taken seriously.

At the head of the thread, written by Allahpundit, I read:
As I recall, Allahpundit wrote this right after the White House denied knowledge of the incident and said it was due to the Pentagon, and the MSM was just following along as it always does with Obama. The correction wasn’t made until later.
So, my questions to you, blatantblue, are:
Are you Allahpundit in an alternate universe, or this universe, or do you write AP’s material, or I’m running out of imagination here, so help me out, okay?

I bet Margaret Sanger is dancing at the gates of hell.
Margaret Sanger, eugenist, Nazi sympathizer, KKK sympathizer, who believed in castrating black men and aborting the children of those SHE deemed unworthy…. and Sanger is Hitlery Clinton’s hero…. Sanger, who O’bunghole so fondly quotes.

Ok I have an angle on ttheoLOGAN’s assertion
Blatantblue made one response in the entire 9 page thread. Had nothing to do with Allahpundit’s comment “way to go pentagon’

bb,
1. Did you or did you not attack me after I criticized doofpundit, using the term chickenhawk, for blaming the military for scare force one?
2. Did you or did you not tell me there’s no such word?
3. Did you or did you not say I was not in the military, which was a poorly veiled attempt to say you weren’t attacking someone in the military?
I can tell you I know plenty of people in the military like myself who would be offended at being blamed for obama’s stupidity with scare force one. Doofpundit never apologized.

In both cases, one human is given rights to do as they please over anothers Human Rights.

And what about those that also believe that Roe vs Wade is actually un-Constitutional? This is more than JUST a moral issue. It also brings into question how our Supreme Court is going to interpret our Constitution – if at all. If Obama’s answer to everything is “let’s talk about it,” it would appear he has no value for the Constitution. There are certain things that we can talk about till we are blue in the face, but they may in fact still be un-Constitutional.

Obama is a pig and a putz. He spit on Christian Pro-life Americans today. I will not moderate my beliefs. A child is alive at conception. Only evil people see it as a choice. The older I get, and after giving birth to three children and losing one to miscarriage the more precious life is to me. I will not back down and go along to get along. I am so angry, as angry as I have ever been in my life. I am going to go to bed and try to get rid of the fury I am feeling right now. I am about at the point of tears, my frustration is so great.

What’s too bad is that you feel the need to hijack a thread and start accusing normal posters of crap. Basically that’s all I see here. You sound like a bratty kid with nothing else to do. You truly are not adding to the discussion even by offering up your opposing views, which is fine when done civilly. You just stimulated my brain a bit. The pro-choice argument is essentially anti-male(anti-life is another argument) for this reason: 1 female gamete+1male gamete=a single cell, diploid embyo.
That means the male is exactly 1/2 responsible for the developing embryo. The pro-choice movement puts all the power into the female’s hands. ergo, pro-choice=anti-male
parthenogenesis might be your escape from the argument.

Having a daughter at Notre Dame prepared me for what you all saw in this address: a large room filled with pro-abortion, liberal Catholic Obamabots. So if the 55-45 Catholic split in favor of the Abortionist-in-Chief in November didn’t convince you, let this sink in.
A significant majority of American Catholics are quite liberal and pro-abortion. They don’t care much about what church doctrine says and what church leaders believe. They pick and choose what they like, they go to mass five times a year, and the do-it-by-rote nature of the Catholic mass allows them to think they haven’t missed a thing.
Let this address also show that they’ve missed quite a bit. Professor Gerard Bradley had it exactly right – this will have ground shaking ramifications in the Catholic Church, and John Jenkins has failed, epically. Notre Dame is now Northern Indiana University at South Bend, and nothing more, a very good, very expensive private school.

I’m worried about Israel, too. I don’t like the way Obama has been treating them, and they have very little maneuvering room, quite literally.
Loxodonta on May 17, 2009 at 11:23 PM
Yeah, this is not unique to the Catholic Schools though.
My parents wanted me to consider a Wesleyan college. I at least visited. I realized I could have a BETTER education at a secular institute where the professors were just as too the left.
I’ve also heard the Mennonite schools are trending hard left.
Upstater85 on May 17, 2009 at 11:26 PM
The Church has its work cut out for it.
I don’t know what the Pope and the devoted religious should do. I was actually in tears when reading Obama’s address and the audience reaction.
Loxodonta on May 17, 2009 at 11:27 PM
Yeah, this is very concerning. I hope Obama realizes he can’t throw Israel under the bus. This is not an option for a viable Jewish state – that happens to be the most liberal (free) in the region.

Loxodonta on May 17, 2009 at 11:36 PM
Ahhh! The dreaded question!
When I was young, my parents (and thus I) attended a non-denominational church. This was before the term Evangelical was as popular as it is now. There was a time that we did not attend an actual church – but my family was part of a loose group of families that met together (no, we weren’t hippies). As I went off to college, my parents ended up rejoining another church; however, by this time, I had come to mistrust many pastor figures. This is both a long story and semi-ironic given that my very trusted Uncle is a pastor of a break-off Mennonite Church (my mother’s background) The current church that my parents attend would be called more or less an Evangelical church. Ah, but this is about them, and not me. I would consider my faith to be Christian. I am a (poor) follower of Jesus (or Yeshua as has become more popular with many my age). I believe in the Godly life described in the Bible, and I would like to follow that life. That said, I still have trouble with authority figures – especially in the church. I believe that in the end, we are all (independent of church building or denomination) in The Church so long as we strive to follow God’s laws and acknowledge and then ask forgiveness for our sins. Even though I struggle with some of the Christian structures, I do have respect for them and I don’t think it is fair to constantly slam on them.
Upstater85 on May 17, 2009 at 11:47 PM
According to my neighbor tonight over dinner George Bush started it all but then the neighbor’s a old-time, long-time union man. But while he doesn’t like all the abortions, he asks, where are we going to get all those cures unless we use infant stem cells?
Trying to enlighten him just made him shake his head and declare “the the government is out of control, but oh isn’t Mrs O just the smartest woman you ever saw, unlike that awful Palin?
“God help us if Mccain had been elected and we had that woman in the White house!”, he said.
As another liberal was fond of saying – “and so it goes.”

Yeah, the government is out of control and yet Barry is it’s biggest fan.
I’m not sure if the lefty electorate actually believes what they say or if they do just because they know nothing else.
Upstater85 on May 17, 2009 at 11:54 PM
Yes and no. Fortunately I was an easy going enough person where I didn’t have a complete breakdown – I did know people that had the opposite experience. I think the biggest surprise for me was how students that wanted to participate in the dialogue were shut down if they disagreed. I learned to be very careful about asking certain questions. I had to veil it in lefty-lingo. That was sad. I’m still in academia – one day plan on being part of it. One hard part about going off to grad school was the sheer lack of conservatives or traditionalists. At least in undergrad, there were some. In graduate school, one has to be careful about their personal beliefs so as not to be ostracized (and not just by the Profs)
Upstater85 on May 17, 2009 at 11:59 PM

I am very sorry that you have had to learn to conceal your views in order to survive, but am very proud of you that you have been able to do so and handle it so well.
You must maintain that inner strength. Your faith and family will help. It would be wonderful if you can find at least a few people whom you can trust to be open with, if not in your academic setting, then within that community. But you will have to remain vigilant about whom you can trust.
I don’t think it’s going to get better for quite a while. The Left owns the media and academia, right down to pre-school. You have a wonderful sense of humor. That will also be essential to survival. Don’t let yourself become overcome by bitterness and anger about what they are forcing you to do. And find a safe place to discharge those feelings when you need to do so. You have a long road ahead. I truly believe your future is very bright, but it will not be the easiest of paths.
My prayers will be with you as long as I can pray. Take good care of yourself.
Now, I am going to do a couple of posts and then go to asleep. Good night, young sir.
