Republicans lost the last 2 elections but why are you assuming that social conservatism is the reason the party was rejected? There is much evidence that points to just the opposite. The Dems carried California but social conservatism won on the gay marriage question in that state. Polls show a majority of Americans rejecting liberal stances on many social issues. Then look at other polls showing the majority of Americans thinking Iraq was a mistake or a majority of Americans supporting certain government social programs and you can just as easily blame it all on fiscal conservatism or the War. I just don’t see any clear evidence that a shift away from social conservatism will somehow draw in a large number of Republican votes that would otherwise go Democrat. Whatever that number might be, I can’t see it being big enough to offset the votes that the Republicans would lose due to a deflated conservative base that might sit out future elections if the party were to drift further leftward on social issues.

I don’t get it. 51% of the population is pro-life now. 58% of the population is against gay marriage. And for a party to support a conservative social agenda is supposedly a recipe for electoral disaster? Yes, that’s what the media is trying to convince you but where is the evidence for this?

The more I read, the more convinced I am that Huntsman is going to exit stage left for awhile. He’s young. He’s watched how each new voice gets absolutely slimed.

And he’s convinced that the moral majority crowd with the focus on social agenda issues is doomed. Perhaps they have one last fight, but they’ll never garner enough voters to win an election for dogcatcher, nevermind a national vote. Better to emerge later as having been above the fray, I think, is his own thinking.

Perhaps the appeal is to bring Christianity to China in some way, considering there seems to be such a religious moral vacuum there.
Either way, you are right-he is sleeping with the enemy & needs to wake up: this is not the answer.
But, then neither is being a RINO.

They hadn’t begun the subliminal messages yet and he flew the coop. Because he was unknown outside of his home base, they had just begun planting false memories of how great he was.

I suggest more warm hearted memories the next round. Perhaps a list of ~~people~~ RINOs who are down to earth, laid back, simple yet complex, privately religious, yet open to all religions. How about Cantor? Oh, they already did Cantor.
