Audio: Axelrod dumps on Miss California

posted at 8:54 pm on May 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

Yeah, I know I wrote about this yesterday but you need to hear the audience reaction to see how right Omri Ceren was. Again: There’s no joke here. There’s no wit or irony or play on words or anything remotely clever. Unless he’s calling her a dog, and he surely isn’t, the extent of the “punchline” is simply invoking Carrie Prejean in a context that’s meant to be belittling, even though it’s not quite clear how. And yet the audience practically shrieks with glee. To the extent this is any type of humor at all, it’s a sort of in-joke without the joke: The left’s been enjoying a Two Minutes Hate on her for the past few weeks and now suddenly here’s the senior advisor to the president joining in. The laughter, I think, is simply a reflex of surprise and approbation upon discovering that a figure as exalted as Axelrod would stoop to their level of douchebaggery. All things considered, she’d make a great opening joke for The One’s next speech — except, of course, for the fact that he holds the same position on gay marriage that she does.

Blowback

JetBoy hates Miss California. I love her. She has real inner beauty and I am sure this story will just keep going on and on. Everyone wants to talk about Carrie and how she was unfairly attacked by a gay, hate-filled heterophobe. They will make a movie out of her courageous struggle against the odds and the leftist media haters and she will get her own talk show and put NPR out of business.

Maybe Carrie will become a judge for Mr Gay US and she will get to ask the questions. That only makes sense.

Geochelone on May 16, 2009 at 10:15 PM

Yes, I will go nuts over it if it is a matter of free speech. What you are suggesting is disturbing. You think the WH has carte blanche at targeting private citizens for their political/personal/moral beliefs?

Upstater85 on May 16, 2009 at 10:12 PM

These statements made by Axelrod, et al, aren’t public policy statements…they’re just idiotic, off-te-cuff remarks. If anything like the “fairness doctrine” passes, then I’ll be concerned.

I don’t know if you have noticed but the only people bringing Miss California up is left-wing comics and Obama’s senior adviser.

terryannonline on May 16, 2009 at 10:10 PM

I’ve noticed both left AND right leaning blogs going non-stop about this.

JetBoy on May 16, 2009 at 10:16 PM

What happens if it comes out that she voted for Obama?

SnarkVader on May 16, 2009 at 10:16 PM

The “well they started it” thing is childish at best. It would end if the Right just let it go. But that won’t happen, will it?

JetBoy on May 16, 2009 at 10:07 PM

Your gripe should be with thugs who are trying to destroy someone merely for expressing an opinion. Stop trying to find any way possible to blame the victim.

ddrintn on May 16, 2009 at 10:16 PM

Jet Boy:

Sorry, but I think that even if the Right ignored the whole thing these guys would do this stuff.

I am a woman and I kind of thing the whole dumb b*tch thing was over the top as was the stupid question. The left went after this woman the same way they did Palin, good lucking women are stupid as far as they are concerned…unless of course it is some dimwit of a movie star.

These idiots DO understand that the majority of people in California have the same opinion as Carrie Prejean, right?

Star20 on May 16, 2009 at 9:10 PM

Beats me. But they surely DON’T understand that she’s smoking hot, and the bullets are just bouncing off her.

I say she’s Wonder Woman, panty-ads be damned! In this case, Perez Hilton has bitten off far more than he can chew–and I’m betting that’s say a lot for that guy.

Thanks for the gift, Perez and others on the left. A day without a Carrie Prejean entry is like a day without sunshine.

How do you know they aren’t public policy statements? The message seems pretty clear. Get in the way, and we’ll use the bully pulpit. What would you say if Axelrod had called the black people dogs? Would this still be off-the-cuff remarkism?

No, it is completely fair to point out this horrible behavior of the White House. We’ve had no qualms so far about pointing out the ideological stances of some of Obamas potential appointees…

Upstater85 on May 16, 2009 at 10:20 PM

This whole thing is so bassackwards it is unbelievable.

Dick Cheney is pro gay marriage yet he is “Darth” Cheney.

Obama is anti gay marriage but he is “The One.”

Carrie Prejean is not even a politician, didn’t even volunteer her opinion on the issue until it was forced upon her, and here is this ground swell of hate.

Amazing

terryannonline on May 16, 2009 at 10:17 PM

I’m wondering if the overwhelming support here would be the same. Lots of Christians voted for Obama. Her stance on gay marriage is the same as his. It’s not improbable. So, if video came out of her wearing an Obama t-shirt at a rally, would you all feel the same about her?

I don’t think it’s just because they think they’re stupid. I don’t think they believe either Palin or Prejean is any more stupid than, say, Maureen Dowd. It’s because they’re a PR threat.

I don’t know about others, but I would, yes. I don’t even know if I would like her as a person or if we could be BFFs, and I don’t care. What is disturbing is that apparently Obama and his minions feel more than comfortable trying to stifle free speech.

Upstater85 on May 16, 2009 at 10:36 PM

I would be upset with ANY president and/or their advisers/cabinet would take time to publicly insult a private citizen, especially in such a elementary school manner.

If Axelrod had said something along the line with “I find it unfortunate that someone in her position would take such a stand” – well, I wouldn’t have much of a problem with it.

But it’s the mean-spirited pettiness of the whole matter that gets me upset.

If you don’t like her opinion, ENGAGE her on the issue.

But calling one of the most beautiful women in the world a “dog”…

…well, that’s not only incredibly obviously not true, but it shows a little kid’s level of dealing with disagreement.

Religious_Zealot on May 16, 2009 at 10:44 PM

JetBoy thinks that as long as it is not a public policy statement members of the Obama administration can say pretty much anything against private citizens off-the-cuff and it is no big deal. Sounds like what Hitler did BEFORE it became a public policy statement.

The Obama Adminstration has an enemies list and an active campaign to demonize private citizens who dare disagree with them.

JetBoy does’t get much of anything.

Yeah, I think I read that one.

I think one reason we may seem to be always defending those that are right of center is because often a conservative government will not go after private citizens… whereas a left of center government would seem to love to demonize the private citizen – in particular those that are right of center.

If private citizen Rush Limbaugh said it the White House would be sending out outraged fund raising letters declaring that Rush is the heart and mind of the Republican party who must be defeated.

If, say, Karl Rove had said it he’d be forced to go into exile on a desert island in an undisclosed location.

First Hot Babe threads couldn’t hurt. I love Angie Harmon (and Jodie Miller from Newsbusters). Thanks for the link Danish. Alas, neither one returns my letters. :-(

All kidding aside though, I posted a comment a few nights ago when I was on, about the gay agenda/movement and the ugly underbelly it’s developed. I might have been on board with some of their general concerns when you hear them from the so-called Conservative Gay point of view. Not anymore. I simply don’t believe a word of what they say anymore. They so-called Conservative Gays) are as intellectually corrupt as Perez Hilton himself. I this that guy is pretty typical of them all.

So, I think anyone they attack must defacto be more in line with my thinking. (regardless of who they voted for) I admire the Conservative Women in the news right now a whole lot more than the Cnservative men to boot.

The laughter, I think, is simply a reflex of surprise and approbation upon discovering that a figure as exalted as Axelrod would stoop to their level of douchebaggery.

That sounds about right.

All things considered, she’d make a great opening joke for The One’s next speech — except, of course, for the fact that he holds the same position on gay marriage that she does.

What? Transparent hypocrisy would stop The Precedent? That would be a first.

progressoverpeace on May 16, 2009 at 10:55 PM

Unless he’s calling her a dog, and he surely isn’t,

How do you figure that?

the extent of the “punchline” is simply invoking Carrie Prejean in a context that’s meant to be belittling, even though it’s not quite clear how.

I think it is very clear what he is doing. He is not, of course, saying that she logs like a dog, that is what Axelrod himself looks like, but rather that she is mentally and morally at the level of s dog and should be treated like a dog. Much like slave holders treated their slaves. Much like muslims treat their women. A really disgusting excuse for a human being, even one hailing from the Chicago power structure.

What JetBoy is saying is “We’re not going to stop until you stop defending her.”

To JetBoy and all his ilk my reply is “You’ve got it bassackwards. One does NOT stop doing the RIGHT thing in fear of the WRONG thing continuing to be done. So, buckle up, because we’re drawing a line here. Back off and act like human beings or strap it on and come get some. We’re not going anywhere.”

I’d say that he certainly SEEMS like a obsessive one-issue voter.

Wherever he stands on anything else, gay rights towers over everything else.

In fact, it seems to tower over his ethics and morals if he thinks the RIGHT is to blame for standing up to the crap being thrown at Miss Prejean.

And that’s the problem with obsessive one-issue voters – they take an “any means” outlook on getting their way.

We’ll let it go when the Stalinist clowns on the Left let it go. Fair?

Not anymore. I simply don’t believe a word of what they say anymore. They so-called Conservative Gays) are as intellectually corrupt as Perez Hilton himself. I this that guy is pretty typical of them all.

Clearly you can take garbage out of Chicago and put it in the White House but it’s still garbage. This sorry excuse for a man is just fortunate that this is not still the time of duels or he would be cowering in some corner someplace. Ditto that other little fascist, Perez Hilton.

terryannonline on May 16, 2009 at 10:58 PM

No it wasn’t as tasteless (he wasn’t wishing her death, for one thing), but it was arguably worse because it came from the White House, not a comedian, and he was behaving like a bully.

It’s a metaphor for the lack of gravitas, and the mean-spirited hypocrisy of the insufferably Saintly Obama Administration who are constantly telling the rest of us how we should conduct our lives.

All you foul tyrants who lord above us
You who would give Carrie the smack of your rod
Sooner than you think now you will be given the gutter
You will be given the judgment of God!

The world may be ugly, but each man must do what he must
Give in foul Axelrod, and soon you will be dust
Now come let our lady possess you
In her breathtaking, hair-raising bed
She will tingle your spine
As she captures your heart and your head
Sing, swing
Savor the sting
As she severs you, Madame Guillotine
Slice, come paradise
Our Delilah will shave you razor clean

There is a level of misogyny that exists in this White House that the women on the left ought to be paying serious attention to.

In reference to the ‘hate group’ appellation put on the National Organization for Marriage(?) by Shanna Moakler in yesterday’s thread, I just have to laugh considering the source. Here is one of those failed MTV reality show subjects who couldn’t keep her skinny, absurdly tattooed, has been drummer of a husband. A young mother who liked to hit the hot spots in Los Angeles so that she could initiate multiple dust-ups with young women who Moakler thought had been too close to her husband during their various separations. This is a woman of Klass with a capital K.

The “well they started it” thing is childish at best. It would end if the Right just let it go. But that won’t happen, will it?

JetBoy on May 16, 2009 at 10:07 PM

You’re remarkably wrong about this, and your insistence upon morally equivocating the Right and Left reactions to the savaging of Miss Prejean is adrift, both morally and intellectually.

Let me give you a primer on the matter:

The Left attacks her. That’s wrong.

The Right defends her from the Left’s attack. It’s important, just, and proper to defend the innocent. In this case, Miss Prejean is innocent.

The only people who should have ire directed at them are the scumbags like Hilton, Maher and Axelrod. No one on the right should be criticized for defending her.

You’re welcome.

While it doesn’t hurt that they’re easy on the eyes, my admiration comes more from their words and actions.

God bless her heart, Victorian Jackson doesn’t get taken seriously (very much)for her Conservative convictions. But she called it the way she saw it before the elections and called Obama a Socialist in an interview. When are COnservative men who will say what they truly think? Prejean made a decision on national TV to not say something she thought everyone just wanted to hear. She spoke from her heart. She spoke from her convictions. The Hot Air regulars that somehow find her to be the cause of the hateful atention she’s getting just defy explanation.

terryannonline on May 16, 2009 at 10:58 PM

I agree that Axelrod’s comment didn’t “rise” to Sykes’ level.

Sykes’ ridicule was similar to stuff heard in high school locker rooms and lunch tables.

Axelrod’s “joke” was similar to stuff heard in elementary school play grounds.

My problem with Axelrod here is twofold:
- an important and valued adviser to the President of the United States should not be insulting private citizens ESPECIALLY ones who made no attack on the President and actually share the same opinion.

- an important and valued adviser to the President of the United States shouldn’t be stooping to grade school playground taunts. It bespeaks an amazing level (or lack thereof) of seriousness and respect for the position of the Presidency.

terryannonline on May 16, 2009 at 11:17 PM

He certainly would not say that about a private citizen because he disagreed with her position on an issue.

BTW, Rove was laugh out loud funny this morning, making fun of this fumble from Robert Gibbs:

Q But if I can just follow on that, when you say the President has been consistent, the quote that Jake read from 2007 where the President flatly said, I would reject — using the word “reject” — the Military Commissions Act. He’s not rejecting it today. He’s embracing the Bush law –

MR. GIBBS: No, no, no, no –

Q — with tweaks. He’s embracing that law but saying, “I want to tweak it.”

MR. GIBBS: “I’m buying a car except I’m changing the engine and painting it a different color and calling it a different” –

Q Well, he’s not rejecting this law. There’s not a new law coming. He’s not rejecting this. He’s saying, “We’re going to live with this law with tweaks.”

Rove said that everything Obama claims is “new” was already being done by Bush, so it was more like buying the same car and changing out the pine deodorant and putting on a new bumper sticker.

You’re remarkably wrong about this, and your insistence upon morally equivocating the Right and Left reactions to the savaging of Miss Prejean is adrift, both morally and intellectually.

JetBoy’s problem is that he views Miss Prejean’s opinion on gay marriage to be WORSE than the actions done against her.

Which, of course, is the worse kind of moral equivalency.

Of course, those of us who are opposed to gay marriage should THANK people like Perez Hilton, TMZ, the Playboy Bunny ex-director, Bill Maher, Axelrod, etc. etc.

They are doing more to set back their cause than anything we have done.

This is one of America’s great strengths: The anger that erupts in us when innocent people are improperly victimized. And especially when the victims are women or children or the elderly or the disabled. We fight for what’s right.
