Video: Kit Bond says CIA doesn’t brief on rejected techniques

Time has this moment of clarity from Senator Kit Bond, who must wonder where the media’s common sense went yesterday. Why would the CIA call a briefing to discuss waterboarding to say they weren’t going to use it? Since Time blocks embedding, I’ll use MS-NBC’s embed of the entire video, but the money quote comes at the 6:45 mark, but you’ll be plenty entertained by then.

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

BOND: I’ve been in briefings, and they don’t have briefings to tell you the techniques they’re not going to use. [Laughter]

Q: That’s a really good way of putting it.

BOND: That dog doesn’t hunt. [Laughter]

Watch the whole clip. Bond explains clearly why the CIA would never flat-out lie to the people who control their pursestrings, which Joe Scarborough knows from his time on the Hill. Not only does Bond rip Pelosi, so does the entire MS-NBC panel. By the time this ends, they’re all laughing at Pelosi’s latest story.

Question for the day:

What should Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi pick as her swan song?

Yoop on May 15, 2009 at 12:15 PM

This seems to fit.

She gets up and pours herself a strong one,
And stares out at the stars up in the sky.
Another night, it’s gonna be a long one.
She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry.

She wonders how it ever got this crazy.
She thinks about a Lie she Told in school.
Did she get tired or did she just get lazy?
She’s so far gone she feels just like a fool.

My oh my, you sure know how to arrange things.
You set it up so well, so carefully.
Ain’t it funny how your new life didn’t change things?
You’re still the same old girl you used to be.

You can’t hide your lyin eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you’d realize
There ain’t no way to hide your lyin’ eyes
There ain’t no way to hide your lyin’ eyes
Honey, you can’t hide your lyin’ eyes

I’m not sure that it’s a great idea to have it totally out of control.

I’ve seen no evidence that the CIA is totally out of control.

What amazes me is that people can’t see the problem with secret matters being kept secret.

Then one assumes you would favor that the nature of the enhanced interrogation techniques were unknown to the general public?

Pelosi has made a number of very serious charges as has the Obama administration but have sought to go about things in a dishonest and disingenuous manner. It has only been since the former veep and the CIA have provided pushback that we’re getting closer to the truth. Or should the administration and the Dems have the ability to lie and destroy lives carte blanch?

When Nancy gets the visit and is told to resign her head is going to explode. The Tunguska event will be a mere firework by comparison.

Ahhh, yes…that’s what I meant. Third String. Two heartbeats from the presidency.

Scary any way you slice it.

hoosiermama on May 15, 2009 at 12:51 PM

“Heck of a job Brownie Nancy.”

Stick in there another 18 months of so and don’t let the bastards get you down.

moxie_neanderthal on May 15, 2009 at 12:53 PM

So this is what the “Most Ethical Congress Ever” looks like.

See Nancy should have looked straight into the camera, pointed her finger at the camera, bit her botoxed lip and said. ” I did not lie, not a single time, and now it’s time for me to get back to the work of the American people.”

All would have been forgiven.

PappaMac on May 15, 2009 at 12:56 PM

When Nancy “Plastics” Pelosi, capo di tutti capi, is told to “get in the car and let’s take a ride” do you think she’ll be sitting in the front passenger seat?

moxie_neanderthal on May 15, 2009 at 12:58 PM

Nancy Pelosi is engaged in a despicable act of greymail…

She is hiding behind the barricade of threatening to further expose secret information in order to selectively cherry-pick those secrets that bolster her case.

The so-called “leak” of information showing Pelosi was briefed on EIT’s by the CIA, and so to her staffers, was not a leak, but a response to an official inquiry by a member of Congress to CIA.

The selective withholding of other CIA information, to include memos from DNI Blair, and other senior intelligence officials, by the Obama Administration is also greymail.

Pelosi and the Obama administration opened that Pandora’s Box on their own…for limited political gain in order to bash Bush, and for no other reason than that.

As both Obama and Pelosi are now frantic in their attempts to stuff all the loose ends and debris back into that same box only serves to prove that they both have no qualms about skirting US law for their own ends and using that same law to prevent full-disclosure and transparency.

For this, both are cowards of the first order.

High crimes and misdemeanors…way beyond merely lying in sworn testimony to a federal grand jury.

coldwarrior on May 15, 2009 at 1:04 PM

That’s a great clip. Shows again the lies of the leftists. They all heard what was going on, and they never called it torture or condemned it. Now they blame it on Bush and say they never were briefed.

I know this seems impossible and bizarre but I predict that Steny Hoyer will be President of the United States before the January 1, 2011. It’s a long story involving Pelosi’s downfall, surprising events and a revelation(s) that will force Mr. Obama from office. This won’t be pretty. Keep an eye on Hoyer. He is an historically important fellow.

To Morning Joe’s “credit” today, the played the really bad parts of Pelosi’s presser over and over and over again–and laughed about it. At one point, Mika B. said it made her head hurt.

And beyond that, Joe and Mika reamed the New York Times for carrying the story on page A20 or so. They mentioned that over and over and over again.

Almost every guest was required to weigh in on both Pelosi and the New York Times. One twit, Chrysta Freeland, tried to spin it, and they let her off easy only because she brought her baby with her.

The heads of the hosts of the MSNBC evening programs (Schultz, Matthews, Olby, Maddow) must have been exploding. I think I noticed where Schuster was overcompensating since then to take up the slack, especially in an interview with former senator Graham from Florida.

I’m with Bond, except I thought he put it in the vernacular: “That dog don’t hunt!”

BuckeyeSam on May 15, 2009 at 1:17 PM

I see lots of people saying “yes lets have hearings” on this or that. As if water boarding is torture.

As if people like Nancy Pelosi are saying it’s torture. If that’s what they think, then let everything come out. Including their own part in it.

Pelosi’s lies are apparent without any help from the CIA or leaks.

lorien1973 on May 15, 2009 at 12:32 PM

She’s lying about what the CIA told her. They’re just supposed to take it?

Jim Treacher on May 15, 2009 at 1:30 PM

There is an actual problem here; but continue with the Pelosi bashing and ignore what’s wrong with everything that is going on.

The CIA and “leaks” hurt the Bush administration. The CIA and “leaks” are seeking to do the same to Pelosi.

When you have unelected people – whom you don’t even know what their goal is – taking out elected officials; it’s a cause of concern. Not something to be cheered on from the sidelines. No matter who the victim is.

That, and, it seems we’ve pretty much conceded that waterboarding is torture.

So, on both counts, please continue. It’s stupid. There are more important things to discuss.

lorien1973 on May 15, 2009 at 11:52 AM

All this began when the current elected officials decided it would be a good idea to prosecute former elected officials and their appointees in their ongoing undeclared war against George Bush and Dick Cheney.

Nancy Pelosi gleefully joined in the chorus of Democrat leaders calling for the former emperor’s head. Now, because of political miscalculation of the highest order, she finds her own head on the block. Serves her right and I’m going to enjoy it.

sdd on May 15, 2009 at 1:39 PM

She’s lying about what the CIA told her. They’re just supposed to take it?

Jim Treacher on May 15, 2009 at 1:30 PM

The CIA has been the boogie man for libs for years. After Obama took office he has signaled going after CIA interrogators, and intelligence gathering agents. Moral is at an all time low Now they are being called liars by Speaker of the House? CIA needs to swing hard on this one, just for the sake of the agency.

portlandon on May 15, 2009 at 1:41 PM

Will Matthews, Olbermann and Maddow cover this? It will be hard to ignore. They’ll have to look really, really hard for some spin to make it Bush’s fault!

Mr_Magoo on May 15, 2009 at 1:49 PM

This just in…Pelosi’s plastic surgeon never told her, uh, er, notified her…wait, the papers are out of order, never briefed her staffer, yes, that’s it, that the hypos were actually filled with botox.

mr1216 on May 15, 2009 at 1:56 PM

Pelosi: “I have never had sexual relations with a waterboard.”

joedoe on May 15, 2009 at 2:27 PM

Is Mika growing up or has the left finally gone that far?

MirCat on May 15, 2009 at 7:33 PM

Mika actually sounded depressed. Is she depressed because it looks like Nancy actually lied or because she is so bad at it?

JeffinOrlando on May 16, 2009 at 12:34 AM

Mutually exclusive explanations mean a liar.
