Video: Best movie ever or worst movie ever?

posted at 5:18 pm on May 15, 2009 by Allahpundit

Not since “Snakes on a Plane” or “Alien vs. Predator” has that question seemed quite so urgent. The trailer’s a cult hit online, and no wonder. There’s no middle ground here, people: This is either a masterpiece of movie-monster cheese or a concept so dreadful that the negative should be seized and incinerated. The fact that the stars are Lorenzo Lamas and Debbie “Shake Your Love” Gibson points towards the latter, but how bad can a movie be that features a shark attacking an airplane? Verdict: It’s the “Citizen Kane” of giant octopus movies.

Allah, this is not just awesomeness, this is sheer awesomeness.

Cult classic in the making. A movie so bad and scripted that people will be lampooning this at every pot party from here to eternity.

PrettyD_Vicious on May 15, 2009 at 6:50 PM

Looks like Lt. Goreman from Aliens when he says ¨it rises¨.

Multibucket on May 15, 2009 at 6:50 PM

I giggled like a school girl at the cheeziness of this MUST SEE abomination. Time to hit the liquor store and stock up. This is looking like a 4 drink minimum.

bigskinny on May 15, 2009 at 6:53 PM

Okay Allah, it looks terrible, but I’ll admit I was in love w/ Debbie G when I was in high school. She actually had real musical talent unlike the manufactured and fake teen performers we’ve witnessed over the years. Had no idea she had moved into the big screen arena, she was very successful on Broadway several years ago.

davek70 on May 15, 2009 at 5:27 PM

Wow..which Mall did you go see her ‘perform’ in??

And is your mom starting to get worried that you still have her poster on your wall and why you spend so much time in the bathroom with the door locked??

And maybe why are you still living at home when yer 35??

BigWyo on May 15, 2009 at 6:56 PM

Looks like silly fun. Entertainment is entertainment.

Beats something like that Marley and Me where I had to re-live my 18 year old dog dying in my arms, when I was expecting a comedy.

Moesart on May 15, 2009 at 7:01 PM

This looks like a film about Global warming since the words are the same except for the shark and octopus namesa.

PrettyD_Vicious on May 15, 2009 at 6:50 PM

I don’t think there’s enough pot available to make that remotely watchable.

jdkchem on May 15, 2009 at 7:10 PM

Well, it might be better than Star Trek.

Star Trek III, Search for Spock…

COULDN’T THEY HAVE JUST ASKED HIM WHERE HE WAS?????

benrand on May 15, 2009 at 7:11 PM

It Came from Beneath the Sea is the Citizen Kane of Octopus movies.

MarkJudge on May 15, 2009 at 7:19 PM

Speaking of cinematic abominations, the wife and I are cracking open a bottle of Cabernet tonight and watching our latest Netflix arrival. Trailer below:

ZARDOZ

TheMightyMonarch on May 15, 2009 at 7:19 PM

Well, as a sci fi, horror, fantasy movie fanatic, this is right up my street! After all movies are for entertainment only.

OldEnglish on May 15, 2009 at 7:19 PM

Er … another comma would have been nice! :: I’m too old for this stuff ::

OldEnglish on May 15, 2009 at 7:21 PM

If Al Gore can win an Oscar, this film can.

hepcat on May 15, 2009 at 7:28 PM

“Citizen Kane” of giant octopus movies.

.
Now there’s some words I never thought I’d see together. Thanks for the gut roll AP! Keep the trailer burn the movie.

ronsfi on May 15, 2009 at 7:35 PM

At least they cast Debbie (excuse me) Deborah Gibson in the proper type of film. I have seen enough of Tiffany doing Lady Macbeth to last me a lifetime.

gridlock2 on May 15, 2009 at 7:38 PM

Just for the fact that the mega shark is tearing up San Fran Nan’s district, I’d watch it.

Timothy S. Carlson on May 15, 2009 at 7:39 PM

Hmmm. TWA 800 makes a lot more sense now.

exception on May 15, 2009 at 7:43 PM

I see it as a metaphor for the fight between Obama and Pelosi.

With no winners!

profitsbeard on May 15, 2009 at 8:01 PM

Just when people thought Halo 3 was nerdy, right?

blatantblue on May 15, 2009 at 6:30 PM

The only time I ever played it was as a trial game on the computer just before 2000. Great fun during lunch at work :)

aikidoka on May 15, 2009 at 8:06 PM

Properly marketed this could be the largest opening-day movie premier evah!

cannonball on May 15, 2009 at 8:15 PM

Since when did the SciFi Channel make movie trailers?

AaronGuzman on May 15, 2009 at 8:25 PM

OMG! This looks exactly like the last POS I never saw!

Hit it!

Coronagold on May 15, 2009 at 8:42 PM

A giant octopus eating a sub and a flying shark attacking an airbus aren’t nearly as farfetched as Debbie Gibson as a scientist.

Johnny 100 Pesos on May 15, 2009 at 8:42 PM

Watchmen was supposed to end with a giant squid, according to the graphic novel.

Watchmen is worth watching if for no other reason than hearing the tough kid from The Bad News Bears (who’s also the dorky kid from Losin’ It) sneering with contempt every time he mentions liberals. Just try and avoid the big blue wang.

ynot4tony2 on May 15, 2009 at 8:48 PM

I wish I could support this movie, but Asylum is a chop shop company that rips off new blockbuster movies and makes direct to video crap that tries to get fools to rent it thinking it’s a bootleg version of the real thing.

When Transformers came out they made Transmorphers and when Cloverfield came out they made Monster.

Now normally I wouldn’t care if they ripped off another movie, but these movies sucked, and I mean Sucked! They were even worse than the movies they ripped off.

Sigh… can’t we just get a good monster movie.

njrob on May 15, 2009 at 9:03 PM

Will be exactly as good as Transformers II, Star Trek, GI Joe, and Terminator: Salvation, but at 1/100th the price.

TMK on May 15, 2009 at 9:03 PM

Why does the Sci-Fi or SyFy Channel hate us so?

bryan2369 on May 15, 2009 at 9:03 PM

Oh yeah, Asylum even ripped off Snakes on a Plane and made Snakes on a Train. How do you rip off a movie that’s made to rip off other horrible movies? How can you do that?

njrob on May 15, 2009 at 9:07 PM

LOLLOLOL, This is a must see. Lorenzo is in it and at the end a guy sees a shark attacking his plane, lol!

Man do we ever need a modern King Kong VS Godzilla!

Daemonocracy on May 15, 2009 at 9:17 PM

“It rises…”
“I looked into its eyes…”

Those lines cinched it for me.

Onus on May 15, 2009 at 9:37 PM

To quote another movie, “This is so bad it’s gone past good and back to bad again.”

calbear on May 15, 2009 at 5:52 PM

Now that Ghost World, that was a great movie.

inviolet on May 15, 2009 at 10:35 PM

I vote AP use this pic in place of any Pelosi photo.

Rosmerta on May 15, 2009 at 10:41 PM

Maybe it is just me but this movie seems to be based on concerns about the threat of global warming. If the ice had not melted then this epic battle would not be waged?

Blue Collar Todd on May 15, 2009 at 10:49 PM

Blue Collar Todd on May 15, 2009 at 10:49 PM

So we can blame this piece on Gore? The dirty rat.

RalphyBoy on May 15, 2009 at 10:54 PM

Sigh… can’t we just get a good monster movie.

njrob on May 15, 2009 at 9:03 PM

If you haven’t seen it, try Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, the Trailer
However, it is pretty hard to top the dude looking out the window on the plane and seeing a jaws wide open shark coming at him.

John_R on May 15, 2009 at 11:54 PM

So we can blame this piece on Gore? The dirty rat.

RalphyBoy on May 15, 2009 at 10:54 PM

You bet. I don’t plan to see this movie but if I was a betting man I would think that the issue of global warming will be in there somewhere. And remember the Godzilla movies were predicated on the threat of an atomic age. Evil mankind, better kill some of us off before the monsters reign the planet.

Blue Collar Todd on May 16, 2009 at 12:01 AM

YES!!!!

Yakko77 on May 16, 2009 at 2:28 AM

this is a joke, right?

ConservativePartyNow on May 16, 2009 at 3:33 AM

Oh my god, this is a real movie. I was 100% certain it was a fake trailer.

V-rod on May 16, 2009 at 4:47 AM

The bestest movie monster ever. It eats trains planes and automobiles….and probably sharks.

Oldnuke on May 16, 2009 at 9:10 AM

Ed Wood is alive and well!

Uniblogger on May 16, 2009 at 9:17 AM

Pelosi looks on
Giant shark and octopus
Provide distraction

SDSquint on May 16, 2009 at 9:23 AM

Totally renting that with friends.

Although there’s a chance we may catch a matinee.

Meryl Yourish on May 16, 2009 at 10:12 AM

You are going to need a very large nuclear weapon to kill em. Oh! that’s right, nuclear weapons is what made these monsters what they are.

What kind of weapon do the Environmentalist have in their arsenal to eradicate these monsters, a giant ball of cauliflower, or something similar.

MSGTAS on May 16, 2009 at 10:25 AM

Ok, that has to be the stupidest thing I have ever seen. But based on the last election cycle…..it will be a hit.

conservnut on May 16, 2009 at 12:17 PM

Oh great.

Now Hollywood is ripping off the Japanese

Kini on May 16, 2009 at 3:49 PM

Now if we could only get Barney Fwank and Nancy Pelosi to fight each other…..

Wine_N_Dine on May 16, 2009 at 11:20 PM

I just finished watching it.
