Rush to Pelosi: It’s time to go

posted at 4:35 pm on May 15, 2009 by Allahpundit

Not only is it good strategy, it’s a matter of feminist pride. All kidding aside, I wonder if gender politics aren’t helping to keep the vultures at bay for her. If she’s pressured to quit, Steny Hoyer would likely replace her, and having the first woman Speaker muscled out in favor of a man wouldn’t be very progressive at all. Then again, The One’s almost certain to name a woman to the Supreme Court so he’ll get plenty of cover from that. Fire photon torpedoes!

You’ll be pleased to know that the Speaker of the House’s charge that America’s intelligence bureau is serially corrupt made it all the way to page A-18 of the New York Times today, so if there are any Times readers stumbling across this post, you might want to check our archives to get caught up before listening. Exit question: How bizarre is it for conservatives to be demanding her resignation for prevaricating about a policy they support full-throatedly? I know, I know — “it’s not that she condoned waterboarding, it’s that she lied” — but if the left forces her out, it won’t be because she’s a weasel. It’ll be because she didn’t have the moral acuity to throw caution to the wind after 9/11 and shrug off the odds of more attacks all so that Khaled Sheikh Mohammed wouldn’t be pretend-drowned. Click the image to listen.

Just the same, she needs to go.

While it’s not torture, because torture is ripping fingernails out, etc. and not scaring KSM from a much needed bath, when it comes to Blinky Pelosi; it’s always the cover-up and not the crime.

Sauce meets goose and gander ~ D.C. style.

Whatever the reason, let’s throw her to the lions.

I know — “it’s not that she condoned waterboarding, it’s that she lied” — but if the left forces her out, it won’t be because she’s a weasel.

To me, it’s not because Pelosi lied, it’s that she’s willing to put our country’s safety at risk by threatening the CIA to save herself.

It’s not the cover-up, it’s our national security.

Very bizarre.

She is as good as you are gonna get. In more ways than one. She’s a perfect buffoon for the republicans (hoyer cannot possibly be more comical or divisive as her) and she supports a policy that makes sense (even if she has to lie about it).

Branch Rickey on May 15, 2009 at 4:45 PM

Last time I checked, the GOP was anti-lie. In fact, their persecution/prosecution (depending on who you are) of Clinton is what really launched out current 2-party fight to the death.

I also think that if she had made just some random lie, they might’ve let her off with another Rove column. But she said the CIA misled Congress. That’s a pretty big bold-faced lie.

hawksruleva on May 15, 2009 at 4:45 PM

Break the glass ceiling Nancy. It’ll look good in the history books as Ms. Pelosi being the first woman Speaker to resign.

She is a vile human who cares nothing for National anything.

It’s not surprising that the liberal identity precedents (Speaker and Traitor-in-Chief) whose greatest qualifications for the positions were their identities (and nothing else) are total morons who are unable to carry out the responsibilities of their offices like normal people. How much more evidence do people need that affirmative action is a destructive and stupid policy?

(Well … seeing that the average IQ of libs is around 87, I don’t expect any of them to understand this).

blatantblue on May 15, 2009 at 4:48 PM

Allah, not just that she lied. Its that her intent was to play a partisan political gotcha game from the start and deceive the American people into thinking that Republican party is the party of torture. Unfortunately for us, her little game is damaging the inner workings of the CIA which compromises everybody’s safety. And therein lies her real sin. Its the quintessential example of party before country. Her fatal mistake will turn out to be the false accusation that the CIA lied to her and only her.

It’s not the left forcing her out. It’s the pressure on the left that will do it, and if it happens, libs will assuage their loss by concluding she wasn’t a good enough weasel.

True but the only problem with that is to keep her there means to compromise national security. I’d rather have her go.

Zetterson on May 15, 2009 at 4:50 PM

AP, you seem to have missed Rush’s point that this has turned the whole issue of waterboarding into a Democrat issue, instead of a Republican. That is, they are now both for it and against it, and have lied publicly and privately in that regard.

And what is their position going forward, especially since they’re stuck with the Gitmo detainees?

Also, I’ve noticed McCain is awfully quiet on this.

BigD on May 15, 2009 at 4:50 PM

It’s the fact that she exposes the raw partisanship mentality — national security be damned — of the Dems. If she thought supporting torture would score political points, she’d be doing that right now. Crass, shallow, lying opportunist is much too charitable a characterization for Pelosi — she really is despicable.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing her weather this storm and continue to be the face of the Dem House right up to the ’10 elections.

lorien1973 on May 15, 2009 at 4:44 PM

She clearly supported it in 2002. Had she not, she wouldn’t have waited until 2007 or so to object. Which means she is either lying now or was incompetent then. Pick either option, she shouldn’t be SotH.

LastRick on May 15, 2009 at 4:51 PM

Madam DeFarge, your tumbril is waiting. This is getting better and better, with Leon Panetta telling the world that Pelosi is not remembering events accurately. So is she a liar, or a fool? Either way, it’s time to warm up the ol’ bus, if not the tumbril for Madam Speaker.

Orson Buggeigh on May 15, 2009 at 4:51 PM

How bizarre is it for conservatives to be demanding her resignation for prevaricating about a policy they support full-throatedly?

Two reasons:

1) She lied like a banshee, trying to harm our nation to save her own wrinkled skin.

2) She tried to make hay over a perfectly acceptable, and necessary, program. She is DANGEROUS to our nation. She should be brought up on treason charges for trying to hamstring the CIA and scare future administrations from doing what is right and important.

This nightmare won’t be over until Pelosi and The Precedent (just to name two of the traitors in this junta) are in orange jumpsuits awaiting the execution of their sentences.

This is so very true. I imagine a Speaker Pelosi in 2010 will greatly improve Republicans electoral chances. This is the one reason I am reluctant to see her go.

But how can she be stopped from threatening CIA staff and dragging the whole department through the mud? We can’t do that. It will have to be the Democrats.

Rush is enjoying this more than me. I predict by the end of June her PR firm will advise her to concoct a medical reason to resign as Speaker considering the stress of the job. She is used to lying so this won’t be a problem.

She will wilt away simply as a rep for her District, (The City of San Francisco) and then retire after her current term.

If she does it right they will give her a proper going away party, if not she will be forever shamed.

OTOH, I am forming an opinion that there truly is something medical going on, onset dementia or a blood clot.
I really do not wish that on her.

This is war. War against domestic enemies of the Constitution and those who would destroy our rights and freedoms. I’ll take whatever weapons we can get and use them against whatever weaknesses the enemy has.

Same goes for the allegation that Obama is not qualified to be President based on citizenship. It may be merely a technicality, but I’m perfectly willing to use it as a weapon against the enemy *if it will be effective*.

This is war. If we want to preserve our rights and freedoms, we have to be willing to fight, and we have to be willing to fight dirty. It’s not nice, but sometimes it’s necessary. This is one of those times.

Rubin had a lot more to say on the subject ( http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/rubin/66001 ) but I suspected there were some here who would get a laugh out of the possibly unintended resonance.

Yeah, what has happened to our trolls? They’ve been pretty pathetic lately. I’m used to a better class of troll. I guess I’m just spoiled..

Strange — I always thought liberals were the arbiters of forgiveness.

Tolerance, understanding, and all that goooood sh*t.

Then someone with a NON-RECREATIONAL spurred drug problem admits to his mistake to 20 million people, goes to rehab, and takes responsibility.

Yet somehow, he is still a bad person, and Barney Frankfurter is still considered awesome by people like Nice even after his whore ring was broken up.

I’ll never get it. Up is down!
