Farewell? Yeah, farewell to the GOP. When a rino like Charlie Crist gets 13% of the insiders votes to be 4th place, you know it's over. No, wait, when a rino like McCain gets the nomination, you know it's over.

She DOES run a state though, a really big one, with huge resources and international commerce.

It doesn't even have a million residents -- only big in terms of geography. Please - Rhode Island has double the population.
Stop the Paliniacs from harming themselves with their mental pretzel logic. Alaska is big so Palin is a heavyweight governor....

The only way this would have impacted my support of Palin was if this poll of "GOP insiders" had endorsed Palin. That would have been a warning sign, as I detest "GOP Insiders" as much as do Obama & Pelosi.

Try a poll of Conservatives instead...

Before we go any further with this, look at the names at the bottom and tell me how many you recognized as an "elite" within the Republican party?

Of far more interest is the clickthrough to the bloggers. Again, no recognizable names, but a completely different result -- except for the top, where Jindal still leads. What's even more amusing is that Ahnold makes it onto both lists.

Huntsman is the sad case. By taking a job with the Obama Administration, he's tainted himself. Just like I wouldn't buy a Government Motors car, I won't be buying anyone who served a man who destroyed our economic base.

Let her build up a good record as governor first. Maybe even two terms. Then the MSM will have a harder time pulling her down on the hillbilly stuff.

McCain got a big fundraising bump when she was announced as VP candidate, and she did help with a few fundraisers. It's hard to know how much she could have contributed due to the schedule- McCain/Palin staff pulled her off the fundraising schedule at one point to prepare for her debate and accompany McCain to stops (at least one article noted she helped draw a "buzz" to McCain rallies) and McCain took the public funds soon after she joined the campaign, which complicated the fundraising procedures at that point.

She seems to be a good fundraiser from what I've seen. We'll see how Sarahpac & the Legal Defense fund do when they release reports.

Well usually these insiders know nothing, but in looking at this poll I can't say I disagree with it too much considering Jindal and Barbour are at the top. Two solid Conservatives right there.

Since the Alfalfa Dinner she has only been out of state once. She has hardly done any national media appearances. Most of the msm continue to mock and belittle her. The GOP establishment consistently either ignore her or treat her with disdain (except Steele). AP constantly tells us she is irrelevant.
Yet she goes to Evansville to make a pro life speech (turning down the local offer of a Sarahpac fundraiser) and sells out so well they have to have an overflow hall and the police have to close the streets - then she goes back to her Alaskan exile. When will it be grasped that Palin is a totally different politics? She does not fit into the standard pattern. She is unique. She has a huge army of devoted supporters as part of a genuine bottom up movement that has been absolutely spontaneous. It has not been astro turfed by someone like Axelrod. It has not been financed by a personal fortune like Romney.
Palin has no need of courting the GOP Insiders and they know it. In politics, like sport or show business one sure sign of strength is the ability to fill a hall or a stadium. Palin has that strength in spades. You wont find a Frum or a Brooks there or an AP. But you will find thousands of ordinary people there - and most of them wont be wingnuts or political junkies or even subgroups of the conservative tribes that flourish here (fiscal, social, pro life, Ron Paul..) a lot of them will not even be politically active. But they will connect with this woman more than any other politician.
Who knows if she wants to be President? Nobody yet. But even if she does not she will remain a force in the GOP. Or put it another way - if you were an aspiring GOP politician whose endorsement would you welcome most? A GOP "insider"? Allahpundit? Sarah Palin?
I rest my case.

The money raised by McCain, jmell, wasn’t all that impressive. He was hurting for even media dollars in key states.

You are correct about McCain, but then there was noone else in the Republican primary who was “impressive” either. There were many of the big donors who simply sat out last cycle with their disillusionment with Republican leaders. But you better believe that had someone else set the world on fire with their fundraising efforts…John McCain would not have been our pathetic nominee.

Pretty much this. The folks who donated to the GOP have been pissed off in 06 and 08 and may be pissed off in 10

Another day, another Alluhamateurism. Being a Republican fundraiser for over 30 years I can tell you one undisputed fact...power is not where the "insiders" are, but rather where the money is. If Palin outraises all comers, believe me the "insiders" will fall all over themselves to tie themselves to her. This poll and Alluh's comments are amateurish at best.

Sarah Palin is, by my estimation, serious about politics. She's really protecting herself after a brutal campaign. I noted how Todd handled the questions in one interview by saying, "This isn't our first trip around the block."

Her book deal convinced me. She's going to make a move, in her own time.

She has all GOP contenders nervous, naturally. She's a natural campaigner, truly gifted.

Whether that translates to growing the base? We'll see.

Good post

Remember when a political party was a voluntary assembly come together for somewhat common purpose?

THe PR campaign continues. Redefining the Republican Party every which way to create an impression there is a concensus

It used to be done at conventions when folk used numbers of delegates (and bribes, blackmail and motel photos) to convince delegates to join the consensus.

The last election, both parties wanted consensus before the election began, and the pre packaged ad agency videos were played full blast for the pre picked stooges

The GOP had a problem however, because the conservative voters did not obey and libs had a better liberal candidate. Bring on more ads. Leak more polls. Create a consensus and one day conservatives will accept their new ideals because it came from outside themselves and that is where all ideas begin

If this poll say involved folks like Instapundit or Michelle Malkin or Ace or hell Pat Hynes. Bloggers that are politically connected AND have decent readership we might have something useful

Governor Palin entered the big time political scene unknown and as an enemy to an historic event. A black President was the most important thing this nation could accomplish to begin atonement for a failed national history and the “ONE” had come" and with the “ONE” hope and change. What hope and change was nobody knew and nobody cared it sounded great. Nothing was going to interfere with this. Especially a qualified woman Republican Vice President! She became a threat even at the Vice President level. She must be introduced as an incompetenet and totally demeaned by the MSM and the liberal community to the extent that she will be damaged beyond repair forever and ever. The Republican Presidential candidate was not a factor he was a loser right out of the shoot and by far not the most qualified and competent candidate that could have been. Besides, hate Bush was enough to turn voters away. In addition his age made it certain he would die in office and then this woman would become the President raising a fear flag. No this person could not be one heartbeat away ever!
She will be redeemable only if Obama is a total failure in the first four years and Obama supporters understand what they did and change their ways. Part of changing their ways would be to confess what they did to Governor Palin and say they were wrong. The probability of this occurring is somewhere near zero. The Republicans have no face on the horizon that can change the direction. It is Obama’s to lose.
