Video: McCain’s mother dumps on Limbaugh, Olbermann

posted at 5:04 pm on May 14, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via TV Newser, an extra mavericky palate cleanser. Slublog’s right as usual: “Feisty old ladies = always awesome, even if you disagree.” I busted out laughing when she named Krazy Keith, point blank, as the dregs of liberal commentary, followed by a perfectly astute summation of his wretchedness. I wonder if he has the stones to make a 97-year-old the Worst Person in the World tonight.

Meggie Mac naturally was more excited about her swipe at Rush, which is noteworthy only insofar as it’s a rare example of a Republican willing to knock him unabashedly. Like Conor Friedersdorf says, there are some conservatives — Rush and Palin, for starters — who simply can’t be criticized without forfeiting some of one’s credibility as a right-winger, although I’m not sure where he got the idea that George W. Bush is one of them. Didn’t he read blogs during the shamnesty debate? Ah well. Incidentally, HA readers will be pleased to know that Meg-Meg will be appearing Monday night on … The Colbert Report. What could go wrong?

Update: Rush says she’s absolutely right.

“She is absolutely right” in her assessment that that she belongs to a different Republican Party than he does, Limbaugh said during his radio show: “The Republican Party she belongs to gets shellacked election after election after election.”…

On his show Thursday, Limbaugh made clear he found the criticism quite amusing.

“Sending Sen. McCain’s mother out to dump on me?” Limbaugh said, laughing. “I love it.”

Legitimate criticism is one thing; merely following moonbat talking points (he’s a fat drug addict; she’s a moron who doesn’t read and who said she can see Russia from her house) is another.

Rush is an entertainer/commentator and should try to stop pretending that he is a leader. A leader of a movement would have endorsed somebody in the primaries instead of being preoccupied with loser audience share. If you are worried about your Arbitron numbers, you are not a leader. You are an entertainer.

Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 5:38 PM

Totally disagree on the youngest McCain. She’s only saying things that her liberal friends agree with, things that are making her far more famous than she’d ever be were she to actually defend the GOP more than once a blue moon.

The girl is an opportunist to the core, and I do not understand people who don’t see that in everything she does.

Insulting Republicans and the GOP is far from brave, and that even applies to John’s mother. She’s “feisty” but hardly brave for talking about Rush, especially not on Jay Leno.

I have been listening to Rush practically everyday since 1995. You know, it is really tiresome that unless one engages in grab-your-annkles worship of Rush, he or she is immediately accused of not liking Rush, not listening to Rush, etc. It is impossible to have conversations about anything with all these knee jerk reactions. Sheesh.

Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 5:44 PM

bloggless on May 14, 2009 at 5:09 PM

Senator John McCain needs protection from Rush?

I could see it… maybe… if she was defending her moronic grand kid, but I just don’t see how John McCain needs “protecting.”

And how is this entertainment? Or is the Tonight Show a news show now?

Y-not on May 14, 2009 at 5:44 PM

So what if Rush is an entertainer, he’s still right. Olbermann, Couric, Rather, Maddow, Mayer, are all entertainers too, they just take themselves so serious because they think they are god. Rush just has talent on loan from God.

kirkill on May 14, 2009 at 5:45 PM

Rush goes back and forth. At the CPAC speech he declared himself a leader of the conservative movement. Then during the primaries he basically said (I don’t remember the exact words) that it is not his job to endorse a candidate. He needs to make up his mind. If he wants to be a serious player in GOP party politics he needs either to run or back a candidate. Otherwise, he should stick with commenting on politics which he does very well.

Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 5:47 PM

If you are worried about your Arbitron poll numbers, you are not a leader. You are an entertainer.

Y-not on May 14, 2009 at 5:47 PM

There is nothing wrong with Rush being an entertainer. He is very good at what he does. But to act like he is a leader is not warranted.

I like Roberta McCain. She is inspirational. I don’t know if I’ll make to 97 but if I do, I will probably sit in the corner drooling on myself. At least that’s the fear. Watching her makes me feel there is hope and getting old is not so bad.

Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 5:47 PM

You know what a joke is? I doubt you’ve been listening to him for that long. They called him the leader and he made jest of that. He didn’t have to endorse anybody, especially with the wacky field of candidates the republicans had. I wouldn’t have endorsed either

youngO on May 14, 2009 at 5:51 PM

Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 5:48 PM

I took that CPAC speech when he did the leader stuff as his self aggrandizing humor, which I find so fun to follow. He’s got no responsibility to back one candidate or the other in primaries, just back the ideas he’s always backed and let the Republican voters figure out who best carries those ideas. Lighten up, Francis :)

Brian1972 on May 14, 2009 at 5:55 PM

Bishop,

If Rush isn’t pretending to be a leader then why has every person who said that he was entertainer had to backtrack and apologize?

Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 5:56 PM

I’ll say this about Rush. IF his Operation Chaos actually prolonged the Democratic primary, it made Obama a stronger general election candidate, and kept him in the news (media bias aside) for a lot longer than it would have. It also allowed all the Wright/Ayers stuff to come out early enough to be neutralized (again, media bias aside).

YYZ on May 14, 2009 at 5:57 PM

that’s their business, not his. I’m pretty sure he never asked for an apology…that’s my two sense.

youngO on May 14, 2009 at 5:57 PM

As far as 2012 goes, I think he’s got a not-so-secret favorite already. We’ll have to wait and see what SHE does to find out for sure, hehe :)

Brian1972 on May 14, 2009 at 5:57 PM

Sorry, but if the chosen field of candidates suck why choose any of them; is it written down somewhere that SOMEONE has to be picked?

A leader would either picked somebody and got somebody to run. Rush is an entertainer. A great political commentator. However, he needs to stop acting all offended when someone calls him and entertainer.

Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 5:58 PM

He is an entertainer, but he’s more than an entertainer. It’s all in the context. “Just an entertainer” is a dismissive statement, an insult. It’s all about the IDEAS he wants to advance, the personalities are secondary to him.

Context. That usually means “not credible” when lefty journo-propagandists are pressuring you to say it yourself as a Republican, to marginalize a great threat to their message machine. They want that soundbyte, to then twist in further attacks on El Rushbo. This isn’t that hard, is it?

At CPAC and several times on the radio. I am not going to pay membership to get the transcripts. In any case, you are going to say he was joking. So what is the point? So Rush is an entertainer but demands an apology everytime he is called an entertainer. Go figure!

Another typical attack on Rush Limbaugh without mentioning anything specific. “He doesn’t represent the republican party that I belong to”—how? in what way? what are you talking about lady?

Brian

Go worship Limbaugh the entertainer who resents being called an entertainer. This conversation is tedious.

You are right. This conversation with you is quite tedious, and I don’t worship any man. Go do whatever it is that you do, Captain Superior. You can’t grasp the fact that a LIBERAL saying he’s an entertainer is different than an admirer recognizing he’s entertaining. Whatever.
