Video: McCain’s mother dumps on Limbaugh, Olbermann

Via TV Newser, an extra mavericky palate cleanser. Slublog’s right as usual: “Feisty old ladies = always awesome, even if you disagree.” I busted out laughing when she named Krazy Keith, point blank, as the dregs of liberal commentary, followed by a perfectly astute summation of his wretchedness. I wonder if he has the stones to make a 97-year-old the Worst Person in the World tonight.

Meggie Mac naturally was more excited about her swipe at Rush, which is noteworthy only insofar as it’s a rare example of a Republican willing to knock him unabashedly. Like Conor Friedersdorf says, there are some conservatives — Rush and Palin, for starters — who simply can’t be criticized without forfeiting some of one’s credibility as a right-winger, although I’m not sure where he got the idea that George W. Bush is one of them. Didn’t he read blogs during the shamnesty debate? Ah well. Incidentally, HA readers will be pleased to know that Meg-Meg will be appearing Monday night on … The Colbert Report. What could go wrong?

Update: Rush says she’s absolutely right.

“She is absolutely right” in her assessment that that she belongs to a different Republican Party than he does, Limbaugh said during his radio show: “The Republican Party she belongs to gets shellacked election after election after election.”…

On his show Thursday, Limbaugh made clear he found the criticism quite amusing.

“Sending Sen. McCain’s mother out to dump on me?” Limbaugh said, laughing. “I love it.”

Update: Rush says she’s absolutely right.

Here is the actual transcript of what Rush said on his show today about John McCain’s mother.

Michael in MI on May 14, 2009 at 6:41 PM

Is this lady younger than Pelosi? She seems to be in better shape.

InTheBellyoftheBeast on May 14, 2009 at 6:44 PM

The “Republican Party (she) belongs to” is the one that loses elections because they’re trying to represent the Leftwing. It’s why they don’t get Rush and why he’s so irritating to them, like he is to most Liberals.

Lourdes on May 14, 2009 at 6:54 PM

I thought John McCain was a war hero or something?

Having his mommy fight his battles with Rush Limbaugh?

I’d much rather Rush Limbaugh than President McCain be the standard-bearer for the conservative movement.

Go home to mommy, Johnny Boy.

seanrobins on May 14, 2009 at 6:58 PM

Having his mommy fight his battles with Rush Limbaugh?

Don’t be harsh on Mother McCain, she is the Senator’s mother after all. She no doubt also feels partially to blame for the disaster that is the senator’s daughter.

oldleprechaun on May 14, 2009 at 7:17 PM

I agreed with this old lady when she said we’d all have to hold our noses and vote for her son. Sarah Palin on the ticket made that a lot easier. Now that the election’s over, we can all go back to ignoring the McCains. Except when they remind us why we never liked them.

chunderroad on May 14, 2009 at 7:20 PM

I highly doubt McCain told his mom, prior to her appearance here, “Mommy, could you please defend me against Rush.” She’s got her own opinions. I like Limbaugh and have no issue with what she said.

BadgerHawk on May 14, 2009 at 7:24 PM

hey granny your son is a idiot

wade underhile on May 14, 2009 at 7:35 PM

The Republican Party she belongs to gets shellacked election after election after election.

…whereas Limbaugh lives in an alternative reality in which the Republican party’s flying high? Get real. She’s right. He’s an entertainer. An influential one, but an entertainer nonetheless. He looks out for #1, the number he wants his ratings to be. Why do you think Obama et al. want to make him the face of the Republican party? It’s not because of his wealth of experience, seriousness, and gravitas.

calbear on May 14, 2009 at 7:35 PM

I like Rush.

But the way people trip over themselves taking up for the guy is pretty funny.

Let the woman have her say. Rush isn’t for everyone.

therightwinger on May 14, 2009 at 7:38 PM

My God, it is absolutely amazing how lifelike she looks.

pilamaye on May 14, 2009 at 7:40 PM

It should be quite obvious by now that we never even had a choice in 2008. Will it be the same in 2012?

PrincipledPilgrim on May 14, 2009 at 7:49 PM

If Rush isn’t pretending to be a leader then why has every person who said that he was entertainer had to backtrack and apologize?
Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 5:56 PM

If Rush is only pretending, then nobody would feel the need to apologize to him at all.

Limbaugh’s a leader in the sense that he gives voice to a lot of things a lot of people feel anyway. There are quite a few of them out there. How many was it that voted against Obama? It wasn’t massive enough of a landslide to inspire these comical “the GOP is day-ud!!!!” comments. If that were true, we’d have no trolls.

ddrintn on May 14, 2009 at 8:13 PM

This story is soooo YAWN with all this Nancy Pelosi waterboarding action going on!

HondaV65 on May 14, 2009 at 8:20 PM

Are you sure that is not Ernesto’s mother?

Gotta dump on both major sides so you don’t dare appear to actually take a side.

Jamson64 on May 14, 2009 at 8:33 PM

What is this obsession over Limbaugh? One minute libs claim he’s “just an entertainer” and the next they’re practically breaking their arms taking swings at him. It is now almost literally everyone and their mother who are doing it.
Regardless, her son lost miserably to a wet behind the ears socialist tool. I don’t think it’s Limbaugh who’s the problem with the Republican party.

seanrobins on May 14, 2009 at 6:58 PM

Look, I loathe John McCain’s self-aggrandizing “bipartisanship” shtick and his policies. And I happen to think that he holds wicked, spiteful grudges.

But John McCain is indeed a war hero. That alone is reason enough to treat him with more respect than you’ve shown.

This isn’t the DU or the Kos litterbox. We’re better than that.

Harpazo on May 14, 2009 at 8:54 PM

Now I see where McCain and that idiot daughter of his get their genes. She’s a goof.

suzyk on May 14, 2009 at 9:00 PM

calbear on May 14, 2009 at 7:35 PM

Rush isn’t the head of the party. He has consistently identified himself as a conservative first; the GOP lines up more as a party to support than the Democrats. So, not much choice for him as to who to support. As to the GOP flying high, go look at the fencepost in the a** milquetoast moderate you nominated for President if you want a better picture of why the GOP is lying face first in a garbage heap right now. Entertainer or not, I hear a better vision of America out of one of his monologues than any speech that Shamnesty John ever made.

At least she has managed not to get pregnant.

Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 10:40 PM

Rush is the head of the “Base”

That is fine, but the “Base” does not win elections by itself.

But keep pretending like it does, we will see who gets “shellacked”

She was the wife of a U.S. Navy Admiral she is the mother of a war hero and U.S. Senator. She is the Grandmother of 3 fine U.S. Servicemen and a family who values service to the U.S. over their own safety. It is far more than Rush Limbaugh who has never once found the time to serve his country unless he was being healthily compensated for it.

Lets put it in perspective here.

Squid Shark on May 14, 2009 at 10:47 PM

The “base” can’t even nominate the candidate of their choice. Rush and other talk shows hosts despised McCain and yet he still got the nomination.

Squid

Yeah, it was all those indies infiltrating closed primaries. So much nonsense. So little time.

Chekote on May 14, 2009 at 10:51 PM

Wow, John McCain looks older than his own mother.

Grafted on May 14, 2009 at 11:25 PM

Chekote, there were too few closed primaries, especially in the beginning of primary season. Its pretty much acknowledged that Romney was the choice of most registered Republicans.

Jesus effing Christ can this family go away please? I mean for crying out loud did we see John Kerry’s mother on Leno after 2004 or Al Gore’s daughter’s all over the news after 2000?

McCain was a miserable, failed presidential candidate. I don’t care what he has to say anymore, let alone what his mother or daughter have to say.

Ah, I see you’ve decided to denigrate capitalism in your comments, Squid…just like Howard “We’ve Had Enough of Capitalism” Dean?

I don’t have a problem with people choosing to fight Totalitarianism in their own way, and becoming entrepreneurs (and ultimately wealthy as a result) is by far one of the best ways to do so…they help keep people employed and free in the process.

I dare say Cindy McCain has done more along those lines than anyone else in that family…how many people has John himself employed as a Senator WITHOUT taxpayer money? (Hint: none.)

I’m not knocking those who fight for our country…NOT EVEN CLOSE. I live around, work with, and am friends with many who do exactly that, and am one of the BIGGEST supporters of our military.

But I don’t begrudge those who pursue the American Dream of making money, either…as those who help themselves help society.

Miss_Anthrope on May 15, 2009 at 9:37 AM

This is wrong on so many levels. But doesn’t she look like Harry Reid in drag?

hawksruleva on May 15, 2009 at 10:01 AM

Yes, thank God Rush doesn’t ‘belong’ to the ‘Republican party’ that threw away this election on McCain and will enable this administration to come close, if not SUCCEED, in completely destroying our country. Thank God.

DanaSmiles on May 15, 2009 at 12:31 PM

Rush and Palin…simply can’t be criticized without forfeiting some of one’s credibility as a right-winger

If you needed a distillation of why the conservative movement in this country is in the toilet, there you have it.

I mean, who on the left would demand that same sort of slavish hero-worship? Obama? Pelosi? The Clintons? No, they all get criticized routinely by the left. It’s only the right that demands subservience to its masters.

“She is absolutely right” in her assessment that that she belongs to a different Republican Party than he does, Limbaugh said during his radio show: “The Republican Party she belongs to gets shellacked election after election after election.”…

Gee, what about those Presidential primary elections that John McCain was in. He didnt get shellacked in those, despite Rush’s antipathy towards him..

And where is the Republican Party that Limbaugh belongs to that doesn’t get shellacked election after election? In his imagination, apparently. It ain’t out here in the real world.

orange on May 15, 2009 at 1:50 PM

Old bitty.

2Brave2Bscared on May 15, 2009 at 2:36 PM

I mean, who on the left would demand that same sort of slavish hero-worship?

See, you come off as sarcastic HERE because in the next breath you answer your own question HERE:

Obama? Pelosi? The Clintons?

Then you get to this part and I question your connection to reality by making the most foolish statement I’ve seen around here in a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time…

No, they all get criticized routinely by the left. It’s only the right that demands subservience to its masters.

orange on May 15, 2009 at 1:50 PM

Obama gets criticized by the left? Really? The Clintons too?

Uh, wait, there’s a common expression for claims like that, hold on, it’ll come to me…

Oh yeah: HORSESHIT!

Obama could get a city blown up and the left would blame either Bush for “inciting our enemies to attack” and leaving us “vulnerable through his misadventures abroad” or just blame America for “…being a racist country that had it coming and DON’T YOU DARE BLAME OUR BLACK PRESIDENT YOU RACIST BASTARDS!!!”

You’re so full of shit your text displays as brown on the page.

Only the right that demands subservience…so when that skag Garaffalo calls the people at the tea parties racists, driven by nothing other than racism against “their black president” or Tony Bennett saying that the American people should “support 0bama in EVERYTHING he wants to do.” or the way people who DO criticize 0bama are treated by the press, that’s not trying to whip a whole damn country into subservience?

Back to Trollville with you…
