Oh my: Hoyer won’t back up Pelosi on claim that CIA lied

Granted, he wasn’t at the briefing in 2002 so he can’t say which side is right, but it speaks volumes that he’s unwilling to offer even a pro forma “I’ve never known Nancy to be untruthful” in her defense. Combine this with him telling reporters a few days ago that any torture truth commission should investigate Pelosi too and it’s pretty clear that even her own number two’s not betting on her version of events. And why would he? She’s a terrible liar. No sense in letting the sinking ship take him down too.
Rep. Steny Hoyer, the House majority leader, panned the recent criticism of Pelosi as a “distraction” during a verbal tangle with Republican Whip Eric Cantor on the House floor.
But when asked directly whether he shares Pelosi’s belief that the CIA misled Congress, he backed off.
“I have no idea of that. I don’t have a belief of that nature because I have no basis on which to base such a belief,” Hoyer said. “And I certainly hope that’s not the case. And I don’t draw that conclusion.”
Below, once again from master clipster Greg Hengler, two minutes of Krauthammer destroying Pelosi on tonight’s “Special Report.” Per his concluding remark, the only thing I’ll say in Madam Speaker’s semi-defense here is that it’s tragic that he, Ed, and pretty much all the rest of us routinely expect the CIA to try to destroy her politically now with well-placed leaks. They did it to Bush, of course, and so there’s rough justice in it being her turn, but how sad that we’re so inured to Hoover-esque tactics by the agency against politicians they don’t like that we’re treating this as a matter of course. As exceedingly unlikely as it is that they lied to her in the briefing, if it turns out somehow to be true then the Dems really do need to follow through with their momentarily nutty idea of prosecuting people for it.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Some of us wondered about Murtha. Wasn’t he on some of these committees? I think Pelosi is taking a lot of heat
1) because she’s a weak link
2) she actually lied about her knowledge about “torture,” whereas other Ds didn’t lie whatsoever…

Pelosi is stuck on another planet, but I’m still trying to make sure that Hoyer knows exactly what meeting with the backers of HAMAS and the incubator for al Qaeda was all about. I’m enjoying this as much as everyone else, however, it strikes me as ironic that this little transgression might wind up bringing up Nancy down.
In the big scheme of things, it is a parking ticket when compared to the capital offense she committed in writing that stimulus bill.

IMO, they released the CIA memo in order to distract people from the Tea Parties, out of control spending, bonuses, bailouts, etc., etc., but they didn’t plan on Cheney firing back with a request to release all the documents that surrounded that memo. They banked on a blame Bush strategy. God only knows why they thought they could plan on the CIA covering their asses though.

The GOP is powerless – they have no say one way or the other who the Speaker is when they are in the minority. I mean – I’m not 100 percent sure about that – but I’m fairly sure that the Dems are the only ones who vote on who leads THEM.

Traditionally the majority party has chosen the Speaker after the biannual Congressional Elections. If the majority party does not have its members vote for their candidate, a minority party member could become Speaker. However this has never occurred in the history of the Union.
The speaker need not be a member of the House I know….I wonder if a blue dog/GOP coalition with her liberal enemies could pull it off….

Madam Pelosi is not going anywhere.
She will not resign she will not be forces out and when she runs in 2010 she will still win with 80+% Left Francisco vote.
The best anyone could hope for is this so split the Dem’s that her quest for power destroys the party and with the infighting and a big time do nothing congess the country can get the time it needs to heal and pay the bills with geting any more and on January 4th 2011 Ms Pelosi will be no more than the minority leader of the 112th congress.
