Lieberman: CIA tells me the truth
posted at 2:45 pm on May 14, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Senator Joe Lieberman doesn’t quite call Speaker Nancy Pelosi a lying sack, but he comes pretty close. When asked by Norah O’Donnell whether the “CIA misleads [Congress] all the time,” as Pelosi alleged today in her press conference, Lieberman laughs out loud (via Weekly Standard):
No, on that specific point, I totally disagree. You have to have confidence in the CIA. And over the 20 years I’ve been here, I’ve been briefed constantly by the CIA and I’d say that they’ve told me the truth, as they see it.
O’Donnell says the CIA stands by their earlier statements on the briefings. Don’t be surprised to see more Democrats peel away from Pelosi after her foolish double-down on a 12 today. They don’t want to be anywhere near her when the next shoe drops, probably in the form of specific briefing notes that will prove the CIA right and Pelosi a liar.
Anyone think that Obama’s regretting the release of the OLC memos now? I’d bet that he’d like a do-over like he got with the photos yesterday.

If Pelosi is found to have lied about the whole “we were misled” meme it will DESTROY their entire talking points for the last 4 years.
The RNC should then hit back and hit back hard on that.

The Empress has clothes, but not a shred of sanity. The insanity meme is embryonic now, but give it a couple of days, and she’ll be treated like the loon that she is, by both the Dems and Republicans.

Yeah, but everybody knows you can’t trust Lieberman. Except that he’s clean enough to win without the Democratic machine backing him. And that he got kicked out of the party for not switching positions as the party drifte Left.

Nope. This way Dear Leader gets to sweep a rival power in Empress Pelosi out of the way, and install a more compliant person in place. Steny Hoyer will owe his position to The One’s machinations. All part of the plan to get a rubber stamp Congress.

Problem is, throwing either the CIA or the Military under the bus is dangerous, as that is the best place to plant explosives!

darwin on May 14, 2009 at 3:05 PM
Once upon a time we had a bit of integrity in Congress, even when things in the world got ugly.
Lieberman is one of those who understand the seriousness and gravity of what we face. Lieberman is of the old school, among those who ask questions when they don’t understand when being briefed or given an operational tour, be it at the Pentagon, some overseas post or base, or just going in to a government office anywhere in DC.
In the middle of Iran-Contra, Sen. Bill Bradley walked into my overseas office and after being briefed on a number of things, he took the gloves off, and started asking pointed questions, and as uncomfortable as several in the room were, all questions from the Senator were answered fully, and he asked more questions, all were again answered and provided documentation when necessary, he followed up within a week orso on items that were less clear.
He was of a different political party than that residing in the White House, and had different politics than my own…it didn’t matter, to him, to me, to those of us he encountered. The seriousness and gravity of the subject at hand was all that mattered. We knew if we lied or played games with the truth, funding would be cut, people would be reassigned or worse, heads would roll.
Pelosi? Probably never asked a single pertinent question, other than “is that all we are doing?” Then sent staffers over instead of actually engaging in any of it.
Kerry, much the same. I can go down the list. But, the point is, when integrity reigns, integrity is given, no matter how uncomfortable it may be at the time.
The 9-11 Commission proved that integrity during the 1990′s was lacking, on the part of the White House, and on the part of Congress, and a whitewash costing $40 million was played out in front of America’s television screens.
Pelosi should pay heed to something I posted atop the chalkboard in my classrooms when I taught high school:
“If you have integrity, nothing else matters. When you have no integrity, nothing else matters.”
Is Pelosi lying? Let’s use a phrase I used to use in cable traffic…let’s just say Pelosi is showing extreme economy with the truth.
In a word…yes.

Big Deal. Pelosi can say she rapes babies while wearing a Nazi uniform, but her district will vote for her anyways. Her voters would rather hear suitable lies that prop up their beliefs than a truth that hurts their cause.
You think San Fran-freakin-cisco is going to vote for a Republican? If they do vote her out, she’ll be replaced by another ultra-left-wing-progressive.
76United on May 14, 2009 at 3:09 PM
Man, if only the RNC had their act together, this fiasco would make for a GREAT TV ad. Picture this:
Segment 1: Black-and-white video of Pelosi changing her story 3 times, while at the bottom of the screen are excerpts from the CIA memos, with dates, contradicting her words. Freeze-frame the video, and the word LIAR is rubber stamped over her face in bright red ink.
Segment 2: Black-and-white video of Barney Frank saying that there are no problems with Fanny and Freddie. Freeze-frame the video, and the word LIAR is rubber stamped over his face in bright red ink.
Segment 3: Video of any Obama sound bite from either his campaign or his first 100 days in office, immediately followed by his reversal (lots of examples can easily be found for this). Freeze-frame the video, and the word LIAR is rubber stamped over his face in bright red ink.
You get the idea. The ad would be a homerun for Republicans.

A little refinement in the use of ‘Schadenfreude’ is in order.
I think I’ll go with ‘Hohn’.
Google translates ‘Hohn’ to: noun
1. scorn
2. derision
3. taunt
4. mockery
Yep. ‘Hohn’ it is. Pelosi no longer qualifies for “secret Schadenfreude.”

I don’t think Obama regrets releasing the memos but I think some democraps may regret their politicization of national security and their spurious and libelous attacks against our fine officers in the intelligence branches of government. I think that some congress critters may also regret thinking that because intelligence officers leaked against republicans, that the dems would be immune from such attacks by the intelligence community in the Age of Obama. Or as they may more colloquially state, payback’s a bitch, and instant karma’s gonna get the dems’ right in their heads.

Pelosi is becoming a democrat Richard Nixon, and then some. Before Nixon had told nearly as may lies, and had nearly as many shifting stories, about Watergate, leading Republicans, such as Barry Goldwater, putting country above party, went to Nixon and told him he had to go. Where are any leading democrats to go to Pelosi and tell her that she has to go? President Obama, hello, knock, knock.
MB4 on May 14, 2009 at 3:26 PM

blatantblue on May 14, 2009 at 3:26 PM
Pelosi’s credibility rests upon admitting that she’s suffering from Alzheimer’s.
She is setting with the dawn of Obama. She still wants him to be her bitch. Getting to author the legislation that no one read before voting into lawful ruin just wasn’t enough to keep Nancy in line; on the contrary. It ain’t likely he’s in her court now. She’s an inconvenience he would rather replace with his own model.
So the Speaker of the House need not be a sitting member of Congress? Is the rule that they must have already been elected and served, at least? Obama would appoint his Michelle given the opportunity.
Speaking of appointments, has Obama finally completed all of his appointments? He waited so long; are some positions yet vacant?

I disagree here. Although I disagree with a lot of Lieberman’s positions on issues, he IS honest, and was willing to buck his party on Iraq. His coming out and saying that the CIA tells HIM the truth speaks volumes about San Fran Nan.
Although Pelosi might be able to cover her gluteus maximus supermaximus by arguing that Lieberman got a Senate briefing while Pelosi got a House briefing, which might not have had the same content.

EIT’s were a bipartisan effort. That’s been proven already. Just because Pelosi makes the statement, in her 5th attempt at the truth, doesn’t mean the CIA lied.
As for it being about torture….does it not bother you, that your messiah still uses renditions? Just because our government, or military aren’t directly involved on that level, doesn’t mean Obama’s hands aren’t dirty.
