DHS report withdrawn
posted at 9:29 am on May 14, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano finally acknowledged defeat publicly on her department’s report on right-wing extremism. In a hearing yesterday held by the House Homeland Security Committee, Napolitano acknowledged that the report should never have been issued, that it replaced specific threats with generalities, and that the new report would focus on actual threats. The person who released the report faces “personnel action”:
A contentious “Rightwing Extremism” report that warned of military veterans as possible recruits for terrorist attacks against the U.S. was not authorized, has been withdrawn and is being rewritten, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Capitol Hill lawmakers. …
Ms. Napolitano said the report titled “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” is not the only report she has seen that says veterans are targets for recruitment by racist and other hate groups.
“It was an assessment, not an accusation,” Ms. Napolitano said.
“It didn’t say that,” [Rep. Christopher] Carney [(D-PA)] interrupted.
“That’s right,” Ms. Napolitano responded. “That is why it should not have gone out.”
Asked whether the person who wrote the report is still employed, Ms. Napolitano said, “Appropriate personnel action is being taken.”
It was actually neither. Unlike its counterpart report on the left wing, it mentioned no actual threats nor reviewed any specific groups with histories of violent action. Those groups exist, and they do try to recruit people, including but not limited to military veterans. Instead of focusing on the groups, though, the DHS report instead chose to associate broad policy positions with violence as well as describe returning veterans as a potential national-security threat in and of themselves.
Napolitano then told the committee that no process for vetting reports existed, and that DHS is now working to fix that. However, that’s not true either. We already know that civil-liberties lawyers at DHS saw the report before it went out and objected to it. DHS released it over their objections. Obviously, a vetting process does exist; it just got overruled. Who made the decision to send out the report over their objections? Why didn’t the vetting process that apparently took place get taken seriously by senior DHS leadership? Is it because they themselves believe what the report said about conservative positions on federalism and abortion?
There still seems to be an honesty problem at DHS, and there is still a personnel problem — at the very top.

There is an honesty problem AND an integrity problem throughout this administration.
The DHS report was meant to provide a base upon which to make bigger moves in the future, more than likely against civil liberties of certain organizations which fit under a wide interpretation of “right wing”.

It’s clear that the polls have motivated this response. Oslime-a and his merry band of Marxists have done far worse than this but because the polls don’t reflect that, they are full speed ahead.
More Americans better wise up or were gonna wake up with a full blown Marxist state on our hands and then realize that this memo from the DHS was a tempest in a teapot.

The excuse they’re using in the DHS “unauthorized” release is the same excuse they gave for Scare Force One.
Once is bad. Twice is evidence of malfeasance. Three times is evidence of willfullness.
Are there other examples?

What I find most galling and depressing is the press bias regarding Obama and his gang. So little investigative reporting is being done about their gaffes or the potential dangers of their policies. It’s not geeting through to the public. But not in this case:

while Napolitano is cleansed as Snow White for the SCOTUS.
Her name on the short list is to prove Obama’s allegiance to her in his Cabinet as much as to distract from who will be his nominee.
Oba’s point: Napolitano is the way things are, regardless of which office you address in this presidency.
The report’s point: get used to the way things are (to be) via change.

There is no argument as to what Barry is likely to do; he’s too transparent an asshat to wonder.
But deceit has its own consequences. Turning deceitfully against the military and against the CIA is not without consequences. Turning against the American citizens is not without consequences.
So despite Obama’s deceitful vanity and the confidence of his Marxist owners and slaves, there are consequences that make them very uncomfortable.

The report goes away — but the attitude and mindset that produced it, released it AND DEFENDED IT is STILL THERE. This is not over, not by a long shot.
Repression is waiting around the corner and this administration is setting the stage. Obama and his sidekick Rahm “Never let a good crisis go to waste” Emanuel have a plan and we are not going to like it. Its a simple plan, there will be another attack on America and there will be repression and trampling of Constitutional rights and civil liberties in the wake of it.

If law-school background is an issue, there are 150+ law schools other than Harvard and Yale. I’m sure that Obama could find a graduate of such a law school other than J-Nap.
Last week, while reading my sister’s WaPo, I read were the Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court was under consideration. A black woman, liberal, from humble beginnings, and a champion of civil rights in the South. The big strike against her? She’s a friend of Clarence Thomas. As a result, the Left is critical. Geez.

That DHS ‘report’ fit the mantra of the left and how it sees conservatives, ergo, it needed no ‘vetting’. EVERYONE KNOWS about those evil conservatives. No need to dig further, EVERYONE KNOWS. When you live in a bubble and everyone around you thinks like you, then there’s no need for any in-depth analysis. It’s all ‘common sense’ and ‘common knowledge’.

So the report is backlogged the day news breaks of microbiologist thief of 22 stolen ebola and HIV vials on route to new job from Canada to the USA to work for Napolitano’s Fed friends.
Konan Michel Yao, microbiologist stole 22 Canadian Ebola and HIV active research vials from Canada’s National Microbiology Lab, and smuggled them into the United States via North Dakota, Canadian and US officials said Wednesday. He was taking them to his new job with the National Institutes of Health at the Biodefense Research Laboratory in Bethesda, Maryland. Suddenly, the story tone changes, and all is well. “But tests later showed “they are not hazardous,” said Jordheim.
Of course not hazardous, nothing here folks, move along.

You-Eh-Vee on May 14, 2009 at 11:24 AM
From what I read it sounds like he stole vials containing DNA plasmids that were engineered to express Ebola virus proteins. Assuming that they were engineered at the Canadian lab and/or constructed by someone else, he basically guaranteed himself a ready supply of that material for his future research in the U.S. What he did was unethical, in addition to being illegal, but it’s easy to believe that the material itself was not dangerous per se. If they were working on developing vaccines the plasmids might contain DNA encoding for proteins that comprise the external “shell” of the virus which would not be disease-causing.
