Video: Time for another 800-comment police brutality thread
posted at 8:17 pm on May 13, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via HuffPo, an unusual entry in our long series of cops behaving badly: There’s no doubt that this is, in fact, brutality, but there is some doubt that any serious harm was done. Also, what’s the deal with the press making a big deal about the high-five? It’s not clear if the second cop even saw the kick to the suspect’s face. Looks to me like they’re celebrating having apprehended him, not booting him in the skull.
Still, a nasty blow, and one for which he’ll surely reprimanded. Prediction: Desk duty for three months.

ahh thats nothing.
If it were up to me (and it SHOULD be) I would make it so that its mandatory to give ONE kick (not two, not three) to the head of a punk.
But I would also possibly make it mandatory for the cops to wear steal tipped boots to, soooooooo.
>:)

Yeah, it was unnecessary, but it was fun to watch.

Obama had a bad day at the office. The MSM needs to create a slack period for him.
BobMbx on May 13, 2009 at 8:24 PM
I can recognize that the cop shouldn’t have kicked the guy in the head. But I have no sympathy for the criminal.
Don’t fire the cop, but send him to “anger management” training.
Nethicus on May 13, 2009 at 8:26 PM
Lame kick-clearly that cop never played soccer. After watching all that Islamists can do with a head, this looks like childs play.
CarolynM on May 13, 2009 at 8:26 PM
What a stupid cop.

I’ll take the under on your prediction, AP. That’s an “is” statement, not an “ought” statement, BTW. Kick was a late hit, totally unwarranted.
The kid actually went from a nonthreatening position to an ambiguous one (hand closer to pockets) as a result of the kick.

Kasper Hauser on May 13, 2009 at 8:29 PM
It’s likely that the owner of the parked car that he crashed into would want to kick him in the head. Maybe it will knock some sense into the kid.
dedalus on May 13, 2009 at 8:30 PM
hmmm…I’m betting that kick took the fight out of him though.
if the cop is willing to kick you now imagine what he’d do to you if resist.
Yep don’t care. The guy was caught in the act of breaking the law and then resisted arrest.
If every criminal got a little roughed up and had to actually serve a sentence that was more like a punishment I doubt we’d see as many as we do today.
should the cop have kicked him probably not since he was down. Should the cop get punished for it…probably will but really no he shouldn’t.

I don’t think this is so bad. I mean, it’s not like he waterboarded him.
Yeah the police officer is an idiot. He should have known there was a camera above. He should have just jumped on his back with a knee and grabbed the cuffs.

Because that’s how most of them got into the country.
Mark1971 on May 13, 2009 at 8:35 PM
High speed chase and then fleeing on foot?
I’m not going to blame the cop for one kick. That’s one of those high-intensity, high-adrenalin situations that one act of excessive violence, provided it causes no considerable harm, can be excused.
Moron shouldn’t have fled.
MadisonConservative on May 13, 2009 at 8:35 PM
The police officer shouldn’t have kicked the man in the head, and should be disciplined for it. But, given the chase and the man’s dangerous behavior, I do understand the policeman’s reaction and would hope the discipline is not severe.
As to the reporter’s attempt to make something out of the high-five, that’s bad reporting.
Loxodonta on May 13, 2009 at 8:35 PM
The cop clearly needs additional training.
He should spend a few weeks working with either a soccer coach or a football kicking coach.

Uh, guy driving like an idiot on the wrong side of the street. Cops in pursuit, he finally stops and they’re pissed. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for him. Don’t run from cops, don’t run away, be a normal citizen and follow rules and maybe an LA cop won’t kick your ass. I’m done with this behavior.

sven10077 on May 13, 2009 at 8:40 PM
Sorry MadisonConservative, the guy was spread eagle on the ground. The chase was over. There was no excuse. That cop shouldn’t be allowed to wear a badge.
Alan on May 13, 2009 at 8:40 PM
It is obvious the police officer in question had just run across moist grass, and recently planted loose soil, and the perp was supine on a sloping lawn. As the officer attempted to prevent himself from sliding over and possibly falling on the perp, he attempted with equal vigor to stop his forward direction. In doing so, his right foot slipped on the aforementioned wet grass, causing said foot to impact briefly on or near the exposed head of the supine perp.
The police officer in question immediately apologized to the perp for this transgression of said perp’s personal space, and he, and the other officers immediately rendered aid to prevent the injured perp from moving, with the intent of preventing possible head or neck injuries until the appropriate medical authorities could arrive on the scene and render proper medical care.
The attendant “hi-five” seen in the photo has no connection to the incident immediately preceeding said “hi-five.” The specialist K-9 officer, a close family friend of the “hi-fiving” officer, had just recently returned from a lengthy Reserve deployment to Fuzzystan, and the “hi-fiving” officer was overcome with emotion at seeing his dear friend back on duty and safe from harm after said lengthy deployment.
Signed,
Precinct Watch Officer

sven10077 on May 13, 2009 at 8:41 PM
He just lucky the cop got to him before dog did. My take is if you run from the police you deserve an ass kicking when you get caught. That way the crooks would think twice about running knowing that if they get caught they are in for a ass kicking of a life time.
kbass on May 13, 2009 at 8:41 PM
My God! How many times are we going to have to see this kind of vicious police brutality play out on out TVs before we take action to stop it???
The first step would be to ground news helicopters.
Kasper Hauser on May 13, 2009 at 8:42 PM

TheBigOldDog on May 13, 2009 at 8:42 PM
I think the cop slipped and his foot just kinda flew forward…after he regained his balance he should have kicked him, just on general principles.
Itchee Dryback on May 13, 2009 at 8:43 PM
Well damn, typical cops. You’re out enjoying a pleasant drive followed by a neighborhood jog and they rough you up.
This is a prison planet.
darclon on May 13, 2009 at 8:43 PM
I saw the police chasing this small truck with a camper shell going a 100 mph and weaving in significant traffic. The camper shell started disinigating and flying all over the highway, then illegal alieans, I think there were around 25 all together jammed into this truck, began flying all over this place. The guy stopped, got out and ran. The officer caught up with him and gave him a number of whacks which the guy deserved. He could have killed people on the highway, killed all those people he was smuggling, and then he resisted. But, of course, the cop is the one who gets in trouble.

sven10077 on May 13, 2009 at 8:44 PM
It’s time for the news choppers to turn the cameras off in these pursuits.
The public is not capable of comprehending the mental state of mind of a cop that at great risk chased a loser for 1/2 hour.
The stupid gang-banger will live to destruct again so anyone with their panties in a uproar here needs a chill pill or something.

You’re ruining it for me :(
Asher on May 13, 2009 at 8:47 PM
This is just one more example of brutality that will change no ones mind on either side of the argument. Any idea if the cop is going to request workers comp for a sprained toe?
JeffinOrlando on May 13, 2009 at 8:48 PM
OK, so to all my fellow conservative friends I ask. When the Obama administration outlaws conservative patriotism and the cops come to arrest you for the crime of being believing in the old outdated US Constitution, are you going to run? And if you do, do you think the cop chasing you should be excused for kicking you in the head when he catches you?
doriangrey on May 13, 2009 at 8:49 PM

1. run from cops
2. get kicked
3. get arrested
4. case is closed
Everyone please quit being so friggin judgmental. If you run from the cops for over an hour and almost murder a pedestrian by driving on the sidewalk then you must reap the rewards. But all anyone can zoom in on is the kick & the criminal’s rights? Grow up. The real world for cops is nasty, vicious and thankless. Leave them be. It is soooo easy to yak yak yak and act sanctimonious. Boring.
Ris4victory on May 13, 2009 at 8:50 PM
Yeah, it was brutality. But, if I was the motorist who that stupid little b**tard almost hit head on, I would have done quite a bit more to that p**ck and the cops would have been kicking me, to get me off of him. Give him a suspension (unpaid) freeze his pay for a couple of years, if it’s a first offense. If he’s a repeater, maybe he needs new work.
As for Mr. Grand Theft Auto Wannabe, next time use the broom closet and a phone book.

Nope.
MB4 on May 13, 2009 at 8:53 PM
If you want to encourage this sort of behavior among the police, do nothing. Expect lawsuits and court involvement for the police department in the future.
Best to discourage this behavior with some form of discipline, but take into consideration the pursuit that led up to this particular incident.
Loxodonta on May 13, 2009 at 8:53 PM
Allah you crack me up!
I would hope that if it is against the law to kick someone in the head the policeman would get the same charges I would.
infidel on May 13, 2009 at 8:53 PM
Maybe he shouldn’t have been breaking the law.No one kicked me today.
So…breaking the law = allow the arresting officer to commit assault? is that what you’re saying?
I’m just trying to get to say that it’s OK for the police to violate the law they’re sworn to uphold.
To whom much is given, much is expected.
